Keith Tam Gibbs
Sept. 27, 1936 - Aug. 30, 1999

Keith Tam Gibbs of Boulder died Aug. 30, 1999, in Boulder. He was 62.

He was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Seattle to Tam Gibbs and Betty Kuhns Gibbs. He was divorced.

Mr. Gibbs was a self-employed desktop publisher in Boulder.

He moved to Boulder in 1969 from California.

He graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University with a degree in English literature. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

He had an interest in Chinese philosophies. He liked East Indian music and played the tabla-drums.

Survivors include his former wife, Judith Rhodes of Paradise, Calif.; a son, USAF Capt. Oscar K. Gibbs of Ramstein Air Base, Germany; a daughter, Thoebe Hamilton of Rohnert Park, Calif.; two brothers, Scott Gibbs of Silt, Colo., and Kit Gibbs of Seattle; a sister, Betsy Wootten of Felton, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Boulder Masonic Lodge, 2205 Broadway, Boulder, with Jean Scott, chaplain of the Hospice of Boulder County, officiating.

Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Boulder County, 2825 Marine St., Boulder 80303.

Margaret Ruth Black
Nov. 30, 1918 - Sept. 8, 1999

Margaret Ruth Black of Boulder died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in Boulder. She was 80.

She was born Nov. 30, 1918, in Ardmore, Mo., to Homer Dille and Mary Graves Dille. She married Richard Black on Oct. 1, 1938. They divorced in 1969.

Mrs. Black worked for the University of Colorado's food service for 13 years before retiring in 1979.

She moved from Missouri to Lafayette in 1938 and to Boulder two years later.

She was active in the Boulder Senior Center, was a member of the Boulder Unity Church for 18 years and served as an officer with the Canyon Point Association board for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Black of Denver and Tim Black of Boulder; two daughters, Bonnie Robb of San Diego and Victoria Kelly of Boulder; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alice.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Boulder Unity Church, 2855 Folsom St., Boulder.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Special Transit, 4880 Pearl St., Boulder 80301.

Lee J. Hendry
Jan. 12, 1914 - Sept. 7, 1999
Lee J. Hendry of Boulder died of cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at Good Samaritan Health Center in Boulder. She was 85.

She was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Richard Liberty and Nettie Cohen Liberty. She married John S. Hendry on Oct. 2, 1937. He died in 1954.

Mrs. Hendry was a homemaker, writer, poet, personal manager and office manager. In later life, she acted in dinner theaters, soap operas and TV commercials.

She volunteered at the Boulder Public Library for three years, and she started the Scrabble club at the Boulder Senior Center. She lived in Boulder since 1993.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Kanach of Boulder; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Hendry; and a son, John Hendry.

Services will be held in Plainfield, N.J., in October.

Contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Vets, 1101 Syracuse, Denver 80220.

ELAINE I. MYERS

Dec. 10, 1936 - Sept. 10, 1999

Elaine I. Myers of Longmont died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 62.

She was born Dec. 10, 1936, in Thief River Falls, Minn., to John Berquist and Blanch Favrow Berquist.

She married John Heger in 1955 in Casselton, N.D. He died. She married Austin Myers in 1977. He died in 1997.

Mrs. Myers worked for Avon in sales and later joined Mr. Myers as a long-haul truck driver. The past few years she worked for Kmart stores in Broomfield and Longmont.

She moved to Broomfield in 1986 from Sterling, Ill., and to Longmont in 1990.

She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and genealogy.

Survivors include four sons, David Stallmo of Boulder, Byron Myers of Rock Falls, Ill., Mark Myers of Sterling, Ill. and Allen Myers of Oregon, Ill.; a daughter, Myrna Myers-Moore of Rochelle, Ill.; two brothers, William Berquist of Madill, Okla., and Donald Berquist of Virginia, Minn.; a sister, June Meide of Mountain View, Idaho; a grandson and nine step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Annabelle Olson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman St. in Longmont, with Deacon Bill Lee of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in Green Mountain Cemetery of Boulder.

Contributions may be made to the Hope Cancer Center or Meals on Wheels, in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, Colo. 80501.

Janet R. Lorenzen-Ristow
July 1, 1926 - Sept. 8 1999

Janet Rolston Lorenzen-Ristow of Longmont died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at the Boulder/Longmont Hospice in Louisville. She was 73.

She was born July 1, 1926, in Denver to George E. Rolston and Guyda Larson Rolston. She married Kyle L. Lorenzen in Dec. 1951. The couple had three children before divorcing in 1974. She was later married to Ray Ristow, with whom she shared homes in Florida and Colorado.

Mrs. Lorenzen-Ristow taught for 25 years in public schools in Ames, Iowa; Lincoln, Neb.; Denver and Boulder before retiring as secretary in the library of the University of Colorado.

She is survived by her second husband; a sister, Virginia Rolston Webb; two daughters, Tara Pogoda of Boulder and Jana Lorenzen of California; a son, Garth Lorenzen of California, and one granddaughter.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Fairmount's Little Ivy Chapel, 430 S. Quebec St., in Denver. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery.

Virginia B. Rice
March 9, 1925 - Sept. 11, 1999

Virginia B. Rice of Boulder died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in Boulder of cancer. She was 74.

She was born March 9, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., to Marshall Buckingham and Myrtle Bowyer Buckingham. She married Dr. Lee Rice on July 2, 1955, in Omaha.

She was the assistant dean of women at the University of Iowa.

Mrs. Rice moved to Boulder from Denver 42 years ago.

She graduated from the University of Nebraska and received a master's degree in speech therapy from the University of Iowa.

She was the national vice president of the Women's Auxiliary to the American Medical Association, a member of the Governor's Commission for Children and Youth in Colorado, president of Los Amigos, past president of Colorado Gamma Phi Beta, a member of West Point Officer's Wives Club and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and St. Aidan's Episcopal of Boulder.

Survivors include her husband of Boulder; a daughter, Susan Knott of New York City; a brother, William Buckingham of Omaha; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Chapel, 1419 Pine St., Boulder, with the Rev. Rol Hoverstock officiating. A reception will follow at St. John's parish hall.

Contributions may be made to Myrtle Tison Cancer Care Unit, Boulder Community Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 9019, Boulder 80301-9019.

Jean Elizabeth Vargo
Dec. 28, 1943 - Sept. 14, 1999

Jean Elizabeth Vargo of Lafayette died from cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Hospice of Boulder County in Lafayette. She was 55.

She was born Dec. 28, 1943, in Lorain, Ohio, to Flora Dobos Vargo and John Vargo.

Miss Vargo worked in new home sales for McStain Enterprises. She also taught junior high and high school in the St. Vrain Valley School District.

She graduated from the Oberlin School of Commerce and Bowling Green State University.

She was a host for international students attending the University of Colorado, a friend to a mentally disabled person, a member of PBS Channel 6 and a member of NOW and the Sierra Club. She enjoyed skiing and traveling.

Survivors include her mother of Lafayette and two sisters, Alice McBride of Fountain Valley, Calif., and FloraAnn Milann of Lafayette.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1960.

A memorial mass will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder with the Rev. Edward Madden officiating.

Interment will follow in Green Mountain Cemetery, 20th and Baseline, Boulder.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County, 2825 Marine St., Boulder 80303.

Arnold Borg

Sept. 14, 1917 - Sept. 9, 1999

Arnold Borg of Longmont died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 81.

He was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to Karl Borg and Signe Haggblom Borg. He married Dorothy Lutz on Aug. 4, 1940, in New York City.

Mr. Borg was a manager at IBM. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater; following his active duty, he served in the Air Force Reserves, retiring in 1977 at the rank of lieutenant colonel.

He moved to Boulder in 1965 from Poughkeepsie, and to Longmont in 1998 from Boulder. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of Longmont; a daughter, Barbara Borg of Longmont; a sister, Alice Crawford of Long Island, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Borg and Charles Borg; and a sister, Edna Borg.

Funeral services were held. Interment was in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Clifton C. Sutton

Feb. 12, 1919 - Sept. 15, 1999

Clifton C. Sutton of Boulder died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, in Boulder. He was 80.

He was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Wilmington, Del., to Edwin Sutton and Martha Camperson Sutton. He married Ida-Lois Dietrich in 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She died in 1996.

Mr. Sutton was an engineer in the health care industry.

He had lived in Boulder for one year, coming from Bridgewater, N.J.

Survivors include three sons, Philip Sutton of Nederland, Randy Sutton of Lakeport, Calif., and Doug Sutton of Palatine, Ill.

No services were held.
