Mary Ann Sweitzer
June 12, 1939 - June 3, 2003
DELTA - Mary Ann Sweitzer, a lifetime Delta resident, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at her residence.
A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery
in Hotchkiss, Colorado at 4:30 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2003 with Rev. Max Kendrick officiating.
Mary Ann Girling was born on June 12, 1939, to Ralph M. and Mary E. (deGraffenried) Girling in Paonia, Colorado. She spent her childhood on Antelope Hill, attended school in Eckert, and graduated from Delta High School in 1957. Mary Ann attended college at Gulf Park, Mississippi.
Mrs. Sweitzer was the owner of Title Research, a title insurance company, from 1989 to her retirement in 2002. She was a member of the Eckert Presbyterian Church, American Land Title, and Colorado Land Title, and Colorado Association Certified Closers Organizations. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and cooking.
Those grateful to have shared in Mary Ann’s life include one son, Paul R. Sweitzer of Delta and one daughter, Lita M. Kirstatter of Delta, one brother Royden R. Girling of Los Angeles, CA and one sister Beryl G. Fritze of Orange County , CA. She is further survived by one granddaughter Karina Sweitzer of New Jersey, and her former husband Richard Sweitzer of Delta, CO.

David R. Sattler
August 6, 1939 - June 3, 2003
AUSTIN - David R. Sattler, a resident of Austin, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, in Cudahy, Wisconsin. He was 63.
Funeral services for Mr. Sattler will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at the First Assembly of God in Delta with Pastor William Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at the Cedaredge Cemetery
in Cedaredge, Colorado.
David Ralph Sattler was born on August 6, 1939, to Leo and Grace (Dimmitt) Sattler in Missoula, Montana. He spent his childhood in Plains, Montana and completed the eighth grade there. David spent two years at Brown’s Business College in Yakima, Washington, two years at the San Diego Business College in San Diego, California, and eighteen months at a Bible College in Seattle, Washington.
On April 7, 1962, David married Bernis Martin at Silt, Colorado. They had celebrated their forty first anniversary this year. The Sattlers had lived in many states, which included Montana, Washington, California, Oregon, Texas, and recently lived in the Cedaredge, Colorado area for the past twelve years.
Mr. Sattler enjoyed his church, reading, fishing, out door activities, and spending time with family and friends. He special interest was singing Southern gospel music and he had been a part of the Royal Praise Quartet organized in Cedaredge. He was also an accomplished musician and played several different instruments.
Those grateful to have shared in David’s life include his wife, Bernis of Austin; three daughters: Donna Whitley of Delta, Becky Boyd and her husband Marshall of Montrose, and Christine Winkler and her husband Robert of Delta; his mother and step - father, Grace and Jerry Jones of Bridgeport, WA; three brothers: Harve Sattler of Seattle, WA, Gordon Sattler and his wife Edith of Brewster, WA, and Don Sattler of Auburn, WA. He is further survived by seven grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his father, Leo Sattler; one son, Barry Sattler; and a brother, Larry Sattler.

Tom W. Sandifer
September 13, 1909 - June 2, 2003
Paonia - Lifelong resident of Paonia, Colorado, Tom W. Sandifer, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at the Paonia Care and Rehab in Paonia. He was 93.
A graveside memorial service for Mr. Sandifer will be held at a later date.
Tom W. Sandifer was born on September 13, 1909 in Paonia, Colorado to the late Marion Joshua and Grace Belle (Davis) Sandifer. He spent his childhood in Paonia and attended school there as well.
Tom was a farmer. In his earlier years he was employed as a miner at the Bear Mine. He was a member of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, but what he loved most was working on the cattle ranch and being outdoors.
Tom married Ann Mlakar December 3, 1939 on Bone Mesa. Ann passed away in April of 1993 in Paonia.
Survivor’s include one son, Tommy Sandifer and wife Judy of Paonia; two daughters, Bonnie Norris of Paonia and Peggy Niemand of Las Vegas, NV; eight grandchildren, Kirk Niemand and wife Sharon, Lisa Hoff and husband Tom, Amy Braxton and husband Wayne, and Kelly Niemand all of Las Vegas, NV; Brian Norris of Paonia, Kristi Sandifer of Fruita, CO; Misti Hazard of Carbondale, CO; and Jon Randy Hazard of Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, CO.
Tom is further survived by eight great - grandchildren, Kyle and Samantha Niemand , Branden and Jessica Hoff, Andre’ and Jacob Braxton all of Las Vegas, NV; and Randi and Kyle Hazard of Colorado Springs, CO.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; nine brothers and sisters and a son in law Sig Niemand.

Ingval Hanson
February 8, 1909 - June 1, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Longtime Cedaredge resident, Ingval Hanson, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. He was 94.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2003, at Cedaredge Cemetery. Members of the Eckert Masonic Lodge No. 136 A.F. & A.M. will officiate.
Ingval Hanson was born on February 8, 1909, in Dowling, South Dakota, to the late Oluf and Petrina (Olsen) Hanson. He spent his childhood in Haakon County, South Dakota. He graduated from high school in Philip, South Dakota. Ingval went on to spend one year at the South Dakota School of Mines and then continued his education at the Nettliton Business College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.
On February 5, 1941, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, Ingval was joined in marriage to Genevieve Maier. She preceded him in death on September 26, 1988, in Cedaredge, Colorado.
Mr. Hanson was a correctional officer. He retired from the Federal Prison Service at Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Federal Correction Institution in Englewood, Colorado, after 24 years of service. He moved to Cedaredge in 1963, where he remained until his death.
Ingval was a member of the First Baptist Church of Austin, Colorado, the Eckert Masonic Lodge No. 136 A.F. & A.M., and the Shrine Consistory. He was a member of the Grand Mesa V.F.W. Post No. 9221, and also a charter member of the Sons of Norway. In his free time, he enjoyed farming and raising beefalo.
Survivors include one son, Arlo Hanson and wife JoAn of Cedaredge; one daughter, Karen Hanson of Montrose; and one sister, Lily Kruse of Philip, SD. He is further survived by three grandsons: Steven Hanson and wife Stephanie, David Hanson and Mark Hanson, all of Cedaredge.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Oscar, Arlo and Hans Hanson, and one sister, Anna Davis.

Gerta Bella
Dec. 27, 1931 - Sept. 21, 2003
CRAWFORD - Gerta Bella of Crawford died on Sunday, September 21, 2003 at her residence. She was 71.
Mrs. Bella was a resident of Crawford for eight years. Her lifework involved a method she developed known as “healing conversation”.
Mrs. Bella is survived by three children; four grandchildren; a sister; and many relatives.
Services will be held in early October, and will be announced.
Gary R. Goad
June 9, 1951 - September 20, 2003
HOTCHKISS - Longtime Hotchkiss resident, Gary R. Goad died Saturday, September 20, 2003 at his residence. He was 52.
A memorial service is planned for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 25th at the Hotchkiss Community United Methodist Church. Rev. John Nadasi will officiate. Services will conclude at the church.
Gary Rae Goad was born on June 9, 1951 in Del Norte, Colorado to Avis and Dorotha (Logan) Goad. He spent his childhood in Monte Vista and graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1969.
On June 8, 1971 Gary married Cheryl L. Stiver in Monte Vista, Colorado. She survives.
Gary was the former manager of the Hotchkiss Mercantile. He was employed in food service. Gary was the former Mayor for the town of Hotchkiss, having dedicated 17 years. He loved the town and the people of Hotchkiss. He was the founding president of the Hotchkiss Lions Club and a former member of the Hotchkiss Chamber of Commerce. He was also a former member of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge, past president Forward Delta County, and past Rainbow Dad of Hotchkiss Assembly. Gary was Hotchkiss Citizen of the Year in 1983. His interests included playing golf, gourmet cooking, reading and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Goad of Delta; one daughter, Jennifer Brummell and husband Eddie of Torrington, WY; one son Chris Goad and Ann Gippert of Loveland, CO; his father, Avis Goad of Monte Vista, CO; and a grandson, Mason Alexander Brummell. He is further survived by three step - grandchildren, Zack, Jessica and Sean.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother Dortha Bratton and step - father Duard Bratton.

Jacque Welch
August 2, 1929 - September 16, 2003
HOTCHKISS - Longtime North Fork area resident, Jacque Welch, died on Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at Eckert, Colorado. He was 74.
Memorial services for Jacque will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, September 19, 2003, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss, Colorado, with Ross Allen officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery
in Hotchkiss with graveside rites performed by members of the Mt. Lamborn Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M.
Jacque Welch was born on August 2, 1929, to Joseph Vanoy and Adela Maddie (Drake) Welch in Seneca, New Mexico. He spent his childhood in New Mexico and Oklahoma before the family moved to Cedaredge, Colorado. Jacque graduated from Cedaredge High School in 1950.
Jacque married Erma Leola Hopper on April 16, 1954, at the Church of God in Hotchkiss, Colorado. They had celebrated forty - nine years together this past April. She survives.
Mr. Welch was a gas fitter and worked in the propane business for forty - five years. He enjoyed doing carpentering work and built his own home, even doing the electrical and plumbing. He liked to fish, hunt, camp, and collect guns. One of his enjoyments was restoring antique cars. Jacque served his country in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He belonged to the Mt. Lamborn Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M., Order of Eastern Star # 81, and the Ute Trails Car Club. He was raised a Seventh - day Adventist.
Those grateful to have shared in Jacque’s life include his wife, Erma Welch of Eckert, CO; a son, Drake Welch and his wife Linda of Hotchkiss, CO; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three children: Deanna, Joe, and Lori; two brothers: Vanoy, and Albert; two sisters: Jo, and a twin sister, Jean.

Debbie Sue Abeyta
April 13, 1962 - September 13, 2003
DELTA - Lifetime Delta resident, Debbie Sue Abeyta, died Saturday, September 13, 2003, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 41.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 18, 2003, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints in Delta, Colorado. Bishop Ted Graff will conduct the service.
Debbie Sue Richardson was born on April 13, 1962, in Delta, Colorado, to Heber and Mary Lou (Sanchez) Richardson. She spent her childhood and attended school in Delta. Debbie also attended school in Ft. Collins, CO.
On February 11, 1979, Debbie married Eddie V. Abeyta in Delta, Colorado. He survives.
Debbie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints. She enjoyed reading, listening to country music, writing, taking and collecting pictures.
Those grateful to have shared in Debbie’s life include her husband, Eddie Abeyta of Delta, CO; a son, Christopher Richardson and his wife Nicole of Delta; three daughters: Theresa Abeyta, Laura Abeyta, and Lucy Abeyta all of Delta, CO; Mother, Mary Naranjo and husband Gilbert of Ft. Collins, CO; Father, Heber Richardson and his wife Donna of Delta, CO; two brothers, Richard Richardson and his wife Chris of Ft. Collins, CO, and Bryon Richardson and his wife Tara of Denver, CO; three sisters: Denise Orozco and husband Guillermo of Ft. Collins, Loron Richardson of Denver, CO, and Gilberta Orozco and husband Ubaldo of Ft. Collins, CO. In addition she is survived by four grandchildren and one on the way.
Debbie was preceded in death by her grandparents and one brother.

Dean A. Greer, Sr.
April 1, 1935 - September 13, 2003
Paonia - Paonia resident, Dean A. Greer, Sr., died Saturday, September 13, 2003 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He was 68.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia, Colorado with the Paonia Masonic Lodge #121 A.F. & A.M. officiating. Services will conclude at the chapel.
Dean A. Greer was born on April 1, 1935 to the late Glen Roy and Mary Ann (Schmidtt)Greer in Hammond, Indiana. He spent his childhood and attended school in Lowell, IN. Dean was a resident of Lowell until 1982 when he and his wife became North Fork area residents.
On April 17, 1954 in Lowell, IN, Dean married Leona Bradbury. She survives.
Dean was a member of the Paonia Masonic Lodge #121 A.F. & A.M. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for Oxbow Mine for six years. Dean retired in 1997. He enjoyed showing his restored car. Dean’s favorite hobby was to collect NASCAR driver Mark Martin’s die cast cars.
Survivor’s grateful to have shared in Dean’s life include: his wife, Leona of Paonia, CO; three sons, Dean Greer Jr. of Paonia, CO, Dale Greer of Delta, CO, and Duane Greer and his wife Marta of Paonia, CO; one daughter, Doreen Schroeder and husband Dennie of Lowell, IN; two brothers, Roy Greer of Thayer, IN, and Don Greer of IN; one sister, Jennie Dalton and husband of Chris of Knox, IN. He is further survived by eight grandchildren and six great - grandchildren. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Barbara Greer.
