Bernice Pearson Lucas

A memorial service will be announced for Bernice Pearson Lucas, who died Wednesday, July 12, 2000 in Durango. She was 80.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Bethel, Conn.

Mrs. Lucas was born May 3, 1920, in Danbury, Conn. She married Benjamin M. Lucas in 1938, at Brewster, N.Y.

Mrs. Lucas lived in Bethel, Conn., until 1989 when she moved to Salem, Mass. In 1995, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and in 1998 she moved to Durango. She attended school in Bethel, including Plumtrees School – a one-room schoolhouse which was taught by her mother’s friend, Anna Rockwell.

She worked for over 30 years at the Barden Corp., in Danbury, Conn., and retired as a manufacturing analyst.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin, her parents and her two sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan L. Riess of Durango, and Bernice L. Turner of Salem, Mass.; one son, Benjamin Lucas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one sister, Marie P. Close of Providence, R.I.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces; and, one nephew.

Ruth Ester Boudin

A funeral service was Sunday for Ruth Ester Boudin who died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango. She was 95.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Mrs. Boudin was born Dec. 18, 1904, in Chisago County, Minn. She married Harold William Boudin on Dec. 13, 1924, at St. Paul, Minn.

Mrs. Boudin spent many summers in Durango to be close to her family. She enjoyed going to the Bar D Chuckwagon and spending time at Hermosa Meadows Campgrounds.

She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Frances of Durango; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and a daughter, Patte Rolwes.

William Jason Boyet

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bayfield Church of Christ for William Jason Boyet, a Bayfield resident, who died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at home in Bayfield from a lengthy illness. He was 37.

Mr. Harvey Cundiff will officiate. There will be cremation.

Mr. Boyet was born March 24, 1963, in Durango.

Mr. Boyet graduated from high school in Salem, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army for more than two years and was honorably discharged. He lived in Bayfield for two years most recently.

He is survived by his father and mother, Winford and Nancy Boyet of Bayfield; a brother, Richard Boyet, of Bayfield; sisters Dorella Gillott of Fountain, Colo., and Helenna Valencia, of Ignacio; four nephews; two nieces; and, numerous aunts and uncles.

Herman Trujillo

Recitation of the rosary will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Herman Trujillo, who died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center from a massive heart attack. He was 85.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Trujillo was born July 5, 1915, in the farm village of Trujillo in Montezuma, Colo. He married Angelina Trujillo in 1947 at St. Edwards Church in Pagosa Springs. He moved to Durango in 1952.

Mr. Trujillo served in the Army and was stationed in the South Pacific, Germany and the Phillipines during World War II. Upon returning to Colorado, he helped his parents on the family farm and began a career in the lumber industry.

He is survived by his wife, Angie, of Durango; three sons, Donald Trujillo of Durango, Herman Trujillo of San Francisco, Calif., and Toby Trujillo of Greeley, Colo.; brothers, Joe Garcia of Seattle, Wash., Ross Trujillo of Grand Junction, Colo., Fernando Trujillo of New Orleans, La., Armando Trujillo of Denver, Carlos, Epifanio and Melando Trujillo, all of Pagosa Springs; sisters, Becky Everage, Mary Bradley and Priscilla Gallegos, all of Denver, and Nia Branson of Gilliham, Ark.; and granddaughter, Briana Trujillo of Durango.

Mary Louise Hatch

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bayfield for Mary Louise Hatch, a mother and grandmother, who died Friday, July 7, 2000, at her home in Bayfield. She was 85. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Burial will be at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield.

Mrs. Hatch was born Nov. 17, 1914, in Batesville, Texas. She married George F. Hatch on May 16, 1934, at Albuquerque.

Mrs. Hatch was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She spent most of her life on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico.

She is survived by five daughters, Elgin Strohecker and Reva Duran, both of Bayfield, Georgie Ross of Pagosa Springs, Hilda King of Green River, Utah, Bonnie Montano of Las Vegas, N.M.; two sons, Carl F. Hatch of Berthoud and Alan B. Hatch of Meeker; 46 grandchildren; and 125 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Hatch.

Mary Louise Woolverton

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Mary Louise Woolverton, a church music minister, who died Tuesday, July 4, at her home in Durango from cancer. She was 51.

Father Mike McCleary and Father Joseph L. Gallegos will officiate. A remembrance service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Hood Mortuary.

Mrs. Woolverton was born December 10, 1948 in Ft. Madison, Iowa. She was active in the St. Columba and Sacred Heart Catholic churches as a guitar player and singer in the choirs, along with coordinating spiritual life and counseling those entering parishes. She planned nursing home visits and marriage preparation classes.

She was also a pastoral associate, visiting sick and home-bound people and coordinating nursing home communion.

She is survived by sons, Ryan Woolverton and Christopher D. Woolverton both of Durango; a daughter, Holly Woolverton of Durango; a sister, Kathy Dodds of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; a brother, Robert Dennis Collins of Hillsboro, Iowa; former spouse Steve Woolverton of Durango; two grandchildren; and, several nieces and nephews.

Patricia Grove Silva

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Patricia Grove Silva, who died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N.M. She was 60.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

The Rev. Robert Griggs will officiate. Burial will be at Ouray Memorial Cemetery in Ignacio. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hood Mortuary.

Ms. Silva was born May 23, 1940, in Ignacio and was a lifelong resident of Ignacio. She was a member of Nuuciu Baptist Church in Ignacio and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include a sister, Maxine S. Richards of Ignacio; two uncles, Harold Grove of Myton, Utah, and Vincent Grove of Ignacio; an aunt, Alice Neash of Ignacio; six nieces, Wahleah Frost, Natalie Richards, Jenny Silva, Fidelia Silva and Fredella Silva, all of Ignacio, and Cecila Ross of Durango; three nephews, William Richards Jr. of Ignacio, Ray Richards of Aztec, N.M., and Donavon Silva of Pueblo, Colo.; and many cousins and other relatives.

Dee Ann Barker

Dee Ann Barker died Monday, July 3, 2000, at the Show Low Oncology Center in Show Low, Ariz. She was 38.

A memorial service will be Friday in Show Low. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Durango Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Cooper officiating. Concluding services and burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery.

Mrs. Barker was born April 20, 1962, in Denver, Colo. She grew up in Durango and graduated from Durango High School, where she played the clarinet in the band and was a flag girl in the band. She completed her nursing training at San Juan Vo-Tech.

Mrs. Barker worked as a nurse for 18 years, including three years at Pueblo Norte Nursing Center in Show Low. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Show Low Second Ward. She was very involved in the church, did genealogy and family history work, served as a visiting teacher and played the piano in primary. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery and fishing trips to Colorado.

Survivors include her husband, Mike Barker, of Show Low; three daughters, Melodee Clark, JoAnn Clark and Ashley Barker, all of Show Low; her mother, JoAnn Mickelson of Durango; two sisters, Shawna Mickelson of Farmington, N.M., and Cyntella Shaver of Albuquerque, N.M.; and, two brothers, Narlin Mickelson of Lake Charles, La., and Joel Mickelson of Durango.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2929 East Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016.

Alice Ann McClain

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the Durango High School stadium for Alice Ann McClain who died Friday, June 30, 2000, from injuries suffered in a car crash in Durango. She was 53.

Chaplain Mike Darmour and Rev. Harry Walz will officiate. A reception will follow at the Rotary Park gazebo.

Mrs. McClain was born in Marshall, Ark., and graduated from Pepperdine University with a master’s degree in English in 1972. She previously taught at Drew Junior High School in South Central Los Angeles.

In Durango School District 9-R, she taught at Smiley Junior High, Miller Junior High, Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary and Durango High School. She won many awards for her teaching, most recently the 9-R Secondary Teacher of the Year in 1998. She loved yoga and helped start the local poetry club.

She is survived by her husband, Lynn Walz, of Durango; a daughter, Lisa Smith-McClain; a stepson, Brian Lloyd-Walz of Durango; a brother, Mac McClain of Marshall, Ark.; her mother, Evelyn McClain of Yellville, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alice McClain Memorial Fund, First National Bank, P.O. Box L, Durango, CO 81302.
