Glenn Gary Simpson
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Durango Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 507 for Glenn Gary Simpson, who died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, from an extended illness. He was 51.
Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at Hood Mortuary.
Mr. Simpson was born Sept. 16, 1948, in Springfield, Mass., and grew up in West Springfield, where he attended school. He married Kathleen Cassidy on April 17, 1971, in Bedford, Mass.
The couple moved to Durango two weeks after their marriage, and Mr. Simpson attended Fort Lewis College.
Mr. Simpson served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam with the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. His combat tour was from April to August of 1969, when he was wounded and discharged from service as a disabled veteran. He received the Purple Heart, Navy Commendation with Combat V, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation and other citations.
Mr. Simpson was past exalted ruler of the Durango B.P.O.E. No. 507, past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4031 and present chairman of the board. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 46 and the Trujillo-Sheets American Legion Post No. 28.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of Durango; two daughters, Kellie Simpson Jaworsky and Kasey Simpson, both of Durango; three grandchildren, Logan, Morgan and Christopher, all of Durango; his mother, Florence Simpson of West Springfield, Mass.; three brothers, A. David Simpson and Robert Simpson, both of West Springfield, and Bruce Simpson of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; two sisters, Joanne Burke and Laurie Simpson, both of West Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe B. Peters
A memorial service and interment of cremains will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for Joe B. Peters, who died of natural causes Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, in Durango. He was 86.
The Rev. Andrew Cooley will officiate. The service is open to the public.
Mr. Peters was born April 3, 1913, in Durango. He was a graduate of Durango High School and lettered in three sports.
Mr. Peters was a graduate of Colorado State University and received the Nye Award for outstanding athlete in 1939. He took a basketball team to the state championships in the 1940s.
Survivors include his wife, Edna A. Peters of Durango; a son, Joseph B. Peters of Durango; a daughter, Betty Joanne Ellis of Fort Collins; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Emilie Marie Dvorak Clark
Emilie Marie Dvorak Clark, a former Florida Mesa resident, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in San Diego, Calif. She was 97.
Mrs. Clark was the last member of the Dvorak family, which moved from New York to the Florida Mesa in 1907.
She attended Orr School, Durango High School, and then studied nursing. She married William Stuart and moved to Long Beach, Calif., and later to Detroit, Mich.
Mrs. Clark took over the Dvorak farm and remodeled the original house. She was active in the Florida Grange, La Plata Pomona Grange, Colorado State Grange and the National Grange, as well as Sacred Heart Catholic Church in San Diego.
Her husband died in 1958, and she married Eugene Clark in 1962. They returned to Colorado every year and continued to be active in the Grange and other Florida Mesa activities.
She is survived by three nieces, Frances Clark of San Diego, Evelyn May of Bonita, Calif., and Gerry Tokar of Seal Beach, Calif.; two nephews, Bill Dvorak of Durango and George Tokar of Anaheim, Calif.; step-nephew, Ron Maxwell of Durango; 17 great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to Florida Grange.
Services will be held Saturday in San Diego.
Gregory Stuart Smith
A graveside service will be Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Greenmount Cemetery
for Gregory Stuart Smith, a former Durango resident who died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, while working in Indianapolis, Ind. He was 52. The cause of death was not available.
Father Mike McCleary will officiate at services.
Mr. Smith was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and was living in Flagstaff, Ariz., when he died.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Brian Smith of Colorado Springs; two daughters, Megan Johnson of Durango, and Kelly Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y.; granddaughter, Ashley Johnson; father, Harvey Smith; and a brother, Michael Smith of Tucson, Ariz.
Samuel G. Teeson
A graveside service of cremains will be Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Greenmount Cemetery
in the Christoforo Columbo section for Samuel G. Teeson, a former snowplower on Wolf Creek Pass for the Colorado Department of Transportation who died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, in the Christina Hospital in Wilmington, Del., after an automobile accident in Wilmington on Sept. 11. He was 78.
Mr. Teeson was born June 5, 1921 in Pagosa Springs, where he grew up. He served in the Navy during WWII as a chief petty officer in the South Pacific. He was a career employee of CDOT. He was an avid outdoorsman, horseman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was living in Durango at the time of his death.
Mr. Teeson is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mowery-Teeson; brother, John Dillinger of Pagosa Springs; relatives Faye Brown, Tennie Lattin and Hattie Masco, all of Pagosa Springs; and Margaret Cobb of Texas.

Diana Elizabeth Schlittgen
Diana Elizabeth Schlittgen died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at the Four Corners Health Care Center. She was 78.
Mrs. Schlittgen, who was known as "Di" by her friends, was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Leicester, England. She spent her early years at a boarding school for young women. During World War II, she enlisted her services to drive an ambulance to serve and care for people.
After the war, she married and had two boys. In 1953, the family moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. From there, they moved to Northern California in 1955. Mrs. Schlittgen moved to Durango in 1985 to be close to her sons. She continued her life caring for others. Mrs. Schlittgen spent the last three years of her life as a patient at the Four Corners Health Care Center in the Primrose Alzheimer’s unit. There, she continued to care for others.
Survivors include two sons, Geof and Terry, and a granddaughter, Alexa, all of Durango.
As per Mrs. Schlittgen’s request, cremation has taken place.
Quincy Jane Ashback
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenmount Cemetery
for Quincy Jane Ashback, who died of natural causes Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Mesa Manor in Grand Junction. She was 90.
Chaplain Ginny Brown will officiate.
Mrs. Ashback was born Jan. 11, 1909, in Mancos.
Mrs. Ashback was a dorm mother in the housing department at Fort Lewis College for 17 years, from 1959 to 1976. She retired in 1976.
Mrs. Ashback was a resident of Palisade, Colo.
She is survived by her son, John G. Ashback Jr. of Farmington, N.M.; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Clovice L. ‘Cody’ Miller
Clovice L. "Cody" Miller died of natural causes Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in Durango. She was 91.
Mrs. Miller was born May 13, 1908, in Longmont, Colo. She lived in Allenspark and Lyons, Colo., until 1972 when she moved to Durango.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and caregiver to most of her family. She collected throw-away dolls, cleaned them up and hand-sewed outfits for them. She was an avid crocheter, quilt maker and gardener.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and volunteered at Dorcus.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Laurence "Dutch" Roe and O.W. "Bill" Miller.
Survivors include two sons, Laurence Roe and Richard Roe, both of Lyons; one daughter, Coleene Miller of Bayfield; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation was held and will be followed by a graveside service, which is pending in Lyons.

Henry Sam Lazzerino
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Salazar and Son Mortuary in Albuquerque for Henry Sam Lazzerino, who died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, in Albuquerque, from a heart attack. He was 91.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lone Tree Cemetery
in Telluride.
Mr. Lazzerino was born Oct. 7, 1908, in Ouray. He worked for the Smuggler Mine in Telluride and was a volunteer fireman and fire chief for many years.
Mr. Lazzerino married Irma Patterson in 1935 in Telluride. They divorced in 1945. He later married Alta Cassietto.
In 1955, he married Sarah Aarons. They moved to Durango, where Mr. Lazzerino worked for the city of Durango for 23 years.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Geraldine Lazzerino.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah; one daughter, Maryann Hofferber of Fort Collins; one son, Gino Lazzarini of Seattle; one brother, Lynn Lazzerino of Grand Junction; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one niece.
