Sylvia Mary Maki Anderson

No services are planned for Sylvia Mary Maki Anderson, who died of natural causes Tuesday, July 20, 1999, in Durango. She was 87.

Cremation has taken place.

Mrs. Anderson was born Feb. 3, 1912, in Superior, Wyo. She attended and graduated from Superior High School.

Mrs. Anderson lived in Denver for 30 years and lived in the Allison area for 15 years. She moved to Durango in 1986.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the La Plata Chapter No. 38 Order of the Eastern Star in Durango, and she attended the Senior Citizens Center.

She married Theodore Wicklem Anderson Aug. 29, 1936, in Denver. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1994.

Survivors include her son, Ronald R. Anderson of Durango; two sisters, Tyyne Madland of Lakewood, Colo., and Vienna Tremelling of Rock Springs, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Jan David McGee

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church for Jan David McGee, who died Sunday, July 18, 1999, in Adamsville, Ala., after suffering a severe asthma attack. He was 35.

The Rev. Ned Amstutz will officiate. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery. A reception for family and close friends will follow at the Lyle and Jill Short riverfront property. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Hood Mortuary.

Mr. McGee was born May 8, 1964, in Detroit. In 1973, his family moved to Mesa, Colo., where he attended Plateau Valley School, graduating in 1982. He married Sandra Cowger on Dec. 31, 1987, in Bakersfield, Calif.

Mr. McGee and his family moved to Durango in July 1992. They owned and operated McGee Trucking for as many years.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra McGee of Durango; three children, Michael, Jessica and Kirstyn McGee, all of Durango; his father, Jan McGee of Durango; a sister, Jill McCormick of Durango; his grandmother, LaRue H. McGee of South Lyom, Mich.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Colorado, Attn: Asthma Research Dept., P.O. Box 3154, Grand Junction, CO 81502.

William Frederick Pickering

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bayfield for William Frederick Pickering, who died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, in Farmington. He was 58.

Bishop Kent Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be at Pine River Cemetery.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Mr. Pickering was born Nov. 23, 1940, in Amsterdam, N.Y. He served 11 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including two tours of duty in Vietnam.

He married Shirl Menser July 30, 1977, and later sealed their marriage in the temple in Los Angeles.

Mr. Pickering was employed as the outage management coordinator at Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant. Five years ago, Mr. Pickering built what was to be his and his wife’s retirement home in the Bayfield area.

Survivors include his wife, Shirl Menser Pickering of Bayfield; four children, Terry Hutchins and Ruth Fowler, both of St. Peter, Minn., Melissa Sanders of Safford, Ariz., and Tim Pickering of Colorado Springs; his mother, Joyce Pickering of Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, Brian Pickering of Glendale, Ariz.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Donna Halverson Gallavan

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Bible Church in Pagosa Springs for Donna Halverson Gallavan, who died Friday, July 9, 1999, from injuries sustained in a fire at her home. She was 63.

The Rev. Louis Day will officiate.

Mrs. Gallavan was born July 18, 1935, in Durango. She spent her life in Archuleta and La Plata counties.

W.T. "Dopey" Butler

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Cortez for W.T. "Dopey" Butler, a Dolores native and community activist, who died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at Vista Grande Nursing Home. He was 74.

Dr. Jim Preston will officiate at services. Burial will be at Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores.

Mr. Butler was born July 27, 1924, in Dolores. He served in the Navy in World War II before marrying Vesta Ilene Chasten on June 27, 1960, in Naturita.

He was a past president of the Montezuma Water Company Board of Directors and was a member of the boards of the Dolores Water Conservancy District and the Dolores School District. He also served as a member of the Dolores Chamber of Commerce and was a retired member of the Dolores Volunteer Fire Department. Butler held memberships with the Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge and Ute Mountain American Legion Post 75 and was responsible for maintaining annual Christmas and Easter lights in Dolores.

He is survived by his wife, Vesta, of Dolores; a daughter, Donna Miller of Cortez; a son, Bill Butler of Pleasanton, Calif.; four sisters, Sarah Barner of Holt, Mich., Hannah Blackburn of Farmington, Ruth Dennison of Olathe and Lois Greenlee of Cortez; three brothers, Paul Butler of Dolores, Maurice Butler of Brighton and John Butler of Palisade; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Contributions may be made to the Dolores State Bank for Dopey’s Pet Projects.

Ryley Beau Sherman

A memorial gathering will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 1533 County Road 228 for Ryley Beau Sherman, a Durango native, who died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, near Durango, from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was 16.

Sherman was born Aug. 24, 1982, in Durango. He enjoyed hiking, camping and the outdoors, and he excelled in ceramics.

He is survived by his mother, Heidi Thorsness of Durango; his father, Mike Sherman of Cedar Hill, N.M.; a brother, Cody Sherman of Durango; a grandmother, Marky Thorsness of Durango; a great-grandmother, Bernice Thompson of Oregon; five aunts; eight uncles; and many cousins, great aunts and great uncles.

Gerald Dwight Howe

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church for Gerald Dwight Howe, a lifelong resident of Ignacio, who died Tuesday July 13, 1999, in Durango. He was 51.

The cause of death was not available.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church. A reception will follow the Mass at the Rolling Thunder Hall.

Mr. Howe was born April 25, 1948, in Ignacio. He married Danielle Red on Aug. 27, 1972, in Cortez.

Mr. Howe was the executive officer for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. He also served as a member of the Tribal Council, he was the administrative office director for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and was a former administrator of Indian Health Services. He was a sergeant for the Southern Ute Police Reserves. He initiated the Southern Ute Heritage Youth and contributed to its success nationally. He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Danielle, of Ignacio; two daughters, Monique Medina of Sacramento, Calif., and Erica Howe of Ignacio; one son, Robert Howe of Pueblo; his mother, Stella Santistevan of Ignacio; three brothers, Don E. Howe, Reggie Howe and Steven Birch of Ignacio; one sister, Floranne Howe of Ignacio; five granddaughters; one aunt, Anna Marie Howe Scott of Ignacio; many nieces; many nephews; and traditionally adopted children.

Harmour L. Daniels

Funeral services will be at Greenwood Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas, for Harmour L. Daniels, who died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos. She was 77.

The cause of death was not available.

Burial services will be at Glenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Texas.

Ms. Daniels was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Tioga, La. She married A.W. Daniels.

Ms. Daniels was a housewife.

She is survived by three daughters, Pat Habjouga of Fort Worth, Texas, Barbara Hayton of Durango and Linda Lacy of Bayfield; one sister, Era Mae Swolley of Pineville, La.; and one brother, J.W. Williams of Alexandria, La.

Glenn Lloyd Blow

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home in Carlsbad, N.M., for Glenn Lloyd Blow, who died Monday, July 12, 1999, in his home in Carlsbad, N.M. He was 72.

Dr. Billy Weckel of Vista Care Family Hospice will officiate at services. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe.

Mr. Blow was born May 8, 1927, in Mitchell, S.D. He married Phyllis Johnson Dec. 24, 1951, in Miles City, Mont.

Mr. Blow joined the U.S. Navy during World War II at the age of 17. He worked as a heavy equipment operator all his life. After retirement in 1990, he moved to Carlsbad. He was involved in the Elks organization and volunteered on many committees.

He is preceded in death by one brother, Harry Blow; and one grandchild, Marc.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Carlsbad; three sons, Robert G. Blow of Durango, Rodney R. Blow of Broadway, N.C., and David R. Blow of El Cajon, Calif.; one daughter, Diane Heater of Rio Rancho, N.M.; one sister, Marilyn Amelsberg of Three Forks, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Family Hospice, 601 North Canal St., Carlsbad, NM 88220.
