Dean Calvin Suttle
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Dean Calvin Suttle, who died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, in Durango of natural causes. He was 85.
A private graveside service has occurred.
Mr. Suttle was born May 20, 1914, in Olathe, Colo., and graduated from Olathe High School in 1932. He attended Western State College in Gunnison, where he majored in business, played football and was the class president during his senior year. Mr. Suttle met and married Louise Jarvis there May 5, 1936.
After receiving their degrees at Western State College, Mr. and Mrs. Suttle became teachers at a small country school at Stone near Olathe. Mr. Suttle taught sixth, seventh and eighth grades and was the school principal. In 1939, he was appointed superintendent of schools in Dolores.
A few years later, Mr. Suttle joined the National Youth Administration, a vocational education program for young men, where he became director of a resident center at the old Fort Lewis campus near Hesperus. When World War II broke out, Mr. Suttle became a field director for the Red Cross at Sheppard Field in Wichita Falls, Texas.
In 1944, Mr. Suttle was commissioned as a naval officer and served on an LST in the Pacific. After the war, he joined his father-in-law, Jim Jarvis, and Jim’s son, Irvin, in the Jarvis Realty. Later, he formed Triple S Realty with partners Joe Shober and John Siegfried. He also served as District Court probation officer for many years. He was appointed to the Colorado Game and Fish Commission in 1968, and was elected chairman in 1971.
Mr. Suttle was a member of the Elks Club, Lions Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Durango Club, Petroleum Club and Electra Lake Sporting Club. He also sang at many local events.
Survivors include his sister, Evelyn Smith of San Angelo, Texas; two daughters, Loudean Barr of Paradise, Calif., and Beth Estelle of Mancos; three grandsons and two great-grandsons.

Frederick C. Henn
Services are pending for Frederick C. Henn, who died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was receiving medical treatment for a stroke he suffered in October. He was 82.
Mr. Henn was a resident of Durango from 1982 to 1998 and also lived in Yuma, Ariz. Since 1999, he had made his home in Dallas.
Mr. Henn was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Jersey City, N.J. He graduated from Glen Ridge High School and Rutgers University with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. He married Margaret Holm in 1944.
Mr. Henn lived in Denville, N.J., from 1944 to 1982. In Denville, he owned and operated the Wayside Inn, one of the last wooden coaching inns dating to the Civil War, and the Rockaway River Country Club. After the club was sold to the membership, he became manager of the Springbrook Country Club and the catering manager of the Governor Morris Hotel, both in Morristown, N.J.
Mr. Henn retired to Durango in 1982, and was active in various civic and volunteer efforts. He was a former Rotarian and member of the Gem and Mineral Club, Durango Club and Good Sam’s Club. He was a frequent volunteer cook at various fund-raising events in Durango.
Mr. Henn was a founding trustee of the Music in the Mountains Festival. He began the tradition of decorating Rotary Park at Christmas. He was a volunteer for the Animas Museum and La Plata Humane Society.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and by a son, Frederick C. Henn Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Florence M. Mason of Durango and Dallas; his son, Robert Alan Henn of Dover, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
James William Hoskin
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sierra Funeral Home Chapel in Truth or Consequences, N.M., for James William Hoskin, who died Wednesday, July 28, 1999. He was 77.
The cause of death was not available.
The Rev. Ann Madden with the First United Methodist Church will officiate at services. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Sierra Funeral Home in Truth or Consequences.
Mr. Hoskin was born May 22, 1922, in St. John, Kan., and moved to Truth or Consequences in 1984. He married Genevieve Scheib Hoskin.
Mr. Hoskin graduated from St. John High School in St. John, Kan., in 1940 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1942. He served in Europe and the Middle East.
Mr. Hoskin was a torpedoman on the USS Macombe. He received the Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, American Campaign Ribbon, European African Medal with two stars and the Victory Medal.
Mr. Hoskin was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the American Legion and the First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Norma Meyers; a brother, Donald W. Hoskin; and a niece, Paula Hoskin.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve of Truth or Consequences; a daughter, Candyce McLain of Durango; two granddaughters, Stella Ellis of Lawndale, Calif., and Beth Kees of Durango; a stepdaughter, Barbara DePoyster of Lakewood; a brother, Paul W. Hoskin Jr. of Pevely, Mo.; and many nephews and nieces.
Michael Doyle Archuleta
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Michael Doyle Archuleta, who died Friday, July 23, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was 20.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
The Rev. Joseph Gallegos will officiate. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery. A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Archuleta was born Nov. 19, 1978, in Ignacio. He was raised in Ignacio and attended school in Ignacio, where he participated in sports. He was a quarterback for the Ignacio High School football team. He participated in the boxing club for two years and was selected to box in the Olympics.
Mr. Archuleta and his wife, Brandi, moved to Henderson, Nev., a year ago, and he worked as a mechanic. He planned to attend the police academy in Las Vegas in November.
Survivors include his wife, Brandi L. Ross Archuleta of Ignacio; his parents, John and Diane Archuleta of Ignacio; two brothers, Anthony S. Archuleta and Adam J. Archuleta, both of Ignacio; a sister, Jessica L. Archuleta of Ignacio; his grandparents, Alfonso and Beatrice Archuleta of Durango and Richard and Mary Schmidt of Durango; his grandfather, Richard J. Torres of Pasadena, Calif.; one niece; one step-niece and numerous other relatives.
Lloyd E. Moss
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Lloyd E. Moss, who died Monday, July 26, 1999, in Durango. He was 85.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
Bishopric Jim Cooper will officiate. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mr. Moss was born Dec. 5, 1913, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He married Helen Prestwich on Nov. 1, 1934, in Moroni, Utah, and their marriage was sealed in August 1950 at the Manti Temple.
Mr. Moss moved to Durango in 1950. He was a life insurance agent and district manager for Franklin Life Insurance for more than 40 years. He retired in 1986.
Mr. Moss was a member of the High Noon Rotary and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Durango. He was actively involved in the church and held many positions.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Moss of Durango; four children, Beverly Jack of Alamosa, Connie Knight of Bountiful, Utah, Sheila Walter of Durango and Joe Moss of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Bud Moss of Orem, Utah; two sisters, Bethel Bull of Kaysville, Utah, and Bertha Tucker of Apple Valley, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.

Bernard J. Hertel
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Bayfield for Bernard J. Hertel, who died Monday, July 26, 1999, in Durango from congestive heart disease. He was 88.
The Rev. Eddy Andary will officiate. The burial of cremains will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery
in Fremont Center, Ill., at a later date.
Mr. Hertel was born Oct. 11, 1910, in Fremont Center, Ill. He attended a country and parochial school in Fremont Center. He was a dairy farmer.
Mr. Hertel married Matilda Strazer Feb. 10, 1945, in Waukegan, Ill. He lived in Fremont Center for 50 years.
After selling the farm, the Hertels moved to the Bayfield area in 1960. Mr. Hertel ranched for five years and then moved to Gem Village.
While living in Gem Village, Mr. Hertel worked for the Sower Sawmill and Lewis Mercantile in Bayfield for 10 years. He retired in 1986.
Mr. Hertel was active in the St. Bartholomew Parish. He also enjoyed fishing and the outdoors in his younger years.
Survivors include his son, Roger J. Hertel of Bayfield; his daughter, Joan E. Hertel of Montrose; a brother, Raymond Hertel of Lanark, Ill.; and a sister, Matilda Dietz of Libertyville, Ill.
Ashley Roxanne Milliano
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church for Ashley Roxanne Milliano, who died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was 11.
The Rev. Eddy Andary will officiate. Burial will be at Ignacio Catholic Cemetery. Rosary service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Ashley was born Dec. 29, 1987, in Durango. She attended Ignacio Intermediate School.
Ashley enjoyed playing basketball, being with friends, fishing, hunting, camping and outdoor life. She also liked to spend nights over with her friends, dancing, singing and volleyball.
Survivors include her mother and her husband, Christine and Michael Martinez of Pueblo; her father and his wife, Leon Milliano and Yvette Cuthair of Ignacio; a sister, Stephanie Milliano of Pueblo; a half-sister, Jessica Sanchez of Grand Junction; two brothers, David Martinez of Durango and Christopher Cuthair of Ignacio; a step-sister, Kaylee Cuthair of Ignacio; her grandparents, Josie Martinez of Durango, Charlie Martinez of Durango, John Milliano of Durango and Vera Sage of Ignacio; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
