Paula Katherine Rich
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Durango Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Paula Katherine Rich, a former tax accountant, who died Monday, May 10, 1999, in Durango. She was 73.
Bishop Jack Davison will officiate at services. There will be cremation.
Ms. Rich was born Paula Hielscher on Oct. 25, 1925, in Chicago. She married Frederick W. Rich Jr. on March 22, 1952, in Great Lakes, Ill.
Ms. Rich traveled extensively with her family because of her husband’s Navy career, spending time in Hawaii and Alaska. She survived the Great Alaskan Earthquake in 1965.
She was an accountant for 40 years and, after moving to Durango in 1991, became a volunteer accountant at the 55 Plus Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Rich.
She is survived by her sister, Josephine Gossell of Eagle River, Wis.; a daughter, Kathy Callister, of Durango; sons, Bill Rich of Durango and Rich Rich of New Orleans; and five grandchildren.
The cause of death was not available.
Ruthe E. ‘Granny’ Russell Jones
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Durango for Ruthe E. "Granny" Russell Jones, who died of natural causes Monday, May 10, 1999, in Aurora. She was 74.
Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Dolores. She married Charles R. "Bud" Jones on June 20, 1943. She was employed by Plaza Pharmacy, Southwest Sports and Sears.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Church of Christ. She volunteered at the Manna Soup Kitchen and the 55 Plus Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include two children, Charles R. "Russ" Jones of Aztec, N.M., and Charlene Welsh of Durango; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary Gene Amon
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Gary Gene Amon, who died Friday, May 7, 1999, at his home in Farmington following an extended illness. He was 60.
Mr. Kristofer Tripp will officiate. Burial will be at Bayfield Cemetery.
Mr. Amon was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Bayfield. He graduated from Bayfield High School in 1957. He married Wanda Mann April 27, 1968, in Bayfield. Mr. Amon served as president of the Local 76 union where he was a member for 35 years, and also served as president of the Central Labor Council, as well as the Farm Local in Cedar Hill. Mr. Amon enjoyed auctions, camping and working on old cars. After retirement, he was active with Democratic politics.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Amon of Farmington; two daughters, Robin Tripp and Tara Ritter, both of Farmington; two brothers, Bill Amon of Flora Vista, N.M., and Duane Amon of Grand Junction; and two grandchildren. Arnold Lloyd Gladson
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Arnold Lloyd Gladson, who died of lung failure Monday, May 3, 1999, at his home in Durango. He was 77.
Military graveside services will be held at Greenmount Cemetery
following the Mass. A Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Visitation will be today at Hood Mortuary and Sunday starting at 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Gladson was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Alliance, Neb. He married Angie Tessitore Jan. 17, 1953, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Walsenburg.
Mr. Gladson managed the Kiva Theatre from 1955 until 1961. In early 1961, he was named classified advertising manager at The Durango Herald. He held various management positions at the Herald for 26 years until his retirement as manager of personnel in 1986.
Mr. Gladson enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1942. He served 24 months in the Pacific Theater with the 2nd Marine Division, Special Weapons Company. He saw combat action in Tulagi-Gavutu-Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands in August 1943. He survived the first assault wave on Tarawa Atoll in the Gilbert Islands in November 1943. For this and other actions, Mr. Gladson received many decorations, including the Purple Heart and two Presidential Unit Citations.
Mr. Gladson was a past president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Durango Rotary Club, past commander of Trujillo-Sheets Post 28, American Legion, and member of the Honor Guard for the Goldenaires Drum and Bugle Corps. He served on the city of Durango Charter Commission. He also belonged to a volunteer fire department in Alliance, Neb.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Gladson of Durango; a daughter, Michele Gladson of Durango; a son, Arnold Dean Gladson of Austin, Texas; and two granddaughters.

Clyde H. Bachman
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church in Aztec for Clyde H. Bachman, a longtime Aztec resident, who died Tuesday, May 4, 1999. He was 91.
The Rev. Bob Schlauger will officiate at services. Burial will be at Hilltop Cemetery
in Pagosa Springs. Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. Bachman was born April 19, 1908, in Pagosa Springs before moving to Aztec in 1974.
Mr. Bachman was adopted twice, the first time by neighbors after his father died so his mother could go to work.
When his mother remarried, he was adopted by Charles Bachman. He worked as a farm hand.
In 1946, he worked for Earl and Ruth Adams, the couple that ended up adopting him. Mr. Bachman and then-widowed Ruth Adams moved to Aztec in 1974.
His hobbies were building miniature bird houses, doll houses and homes out of rocks.
He is survived by his brother; Harless A. Bachman of Eugene, Ore.; four sisters; Francis Mabel and Nadine Ford of Ignacio, Goldie Koenig of Aztec and Bessie Hobbs of Denver; and many nieces and nephews.
Maria ‘Teresa’ Capellan Hanks
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Maria "Teresa" Capellan Hanks, who died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, in Durango. She was 27. The cause of death was not known.
The Rev. Sterling Schaaf will officiate. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Ms. Hanks was born July 13, 1971, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She lived in many countries, including Thailand, Pakistan, Honduras and Jordan and in Washington, D.C., while her father worked for the State Department.
Ms. Hanks was a graduate of Durango High School. She was active in the Special Olympics and was scheduled to represent the United States in power lifting at the International Special Olympics in Raleigh, N.C.
Ms. Hanks was also a participant in the Community Connection Program.
Survivors include her grandparents, John F. Hanks of Truth or Consequences, N.M., and Gerda Kittler of Berlin, Germany; her parents, Jim and Hannelora Hanks of Durango; a sister, Karola J. Hanks of Durango and special friend, Fred Lehi.

Tonie Kay Crowder Lofton
Services will be 2 p.m. today at La Quey Funeral Home in Farmington for Tonie Kay Crowder Lofton, who died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at her home in La Plata, N.M. She was 56. The cause of death was not available.
Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Lofton was born April 10, 1943, in Leavenworth, Kan. She was raised in the Durango area.
Mrs. Lofton is survived by three sons, Rodney Alexander and Billy Alexander, both of Aztec, N.M., and Teddy Bird of Rawlings, Wyo.; her mother, Dorthy Lamham of Mancos; seven brothers, C.W. "Bud" Meador of Elk City, Kan., M.D. "Wink" Meador of Aztec, Tony Meador Jr., Tim Meador and Martin Meador, all of Hesperus, Gary Meador of Farmington and Terry Meador of Lebanon, Mo.; five sisters, Sandra Valencia and Jackie Smith, both of Hesperus, Emma Denny of Colorado Springs, Vicky Aspromonte of Mancos and Margie Bear of Durango; five grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Rose Ibarra
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Farmington for Rose Ibarra, who died of natural causes Wednesday, May 5, 1999, in Farmington. She was 85.
The Rev. Timothy Farrell will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 7 p.m. today at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington.
Mrs. Ibarra was born March 7, 1914, in Pagosa Springs. She married Harry Ibarra Jan. 2, 1937, in McPhee. They lived in Durango for 50 years.
Mrs. Ibarra worked as a licensed practical nurse at Mercy Hospital and Community Hospital. She and her husband moved to Farmington in 1987.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Maes.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, Henry Ibarra Jr. of Grand Junction; three daughters, Patricia Gagne of Lyman, Maine, Martha Beard of Orlando, Fla., and Alecia Garrett of Loganville, Ga.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
