Edwin ‘Bye’ Kaime
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at La Quey Funeral Home in Farmington for Edwin "Bye" Kaime, who died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington from complications stemming from pneumonia. He was 79.
Mr. Kaime was born April 23, 1919, in Albuquerque, and raised at High Lonesome in the Largo Canyon area. He was a lifetime rancher in the Largo Canyon, Bayfield and Lemon Lake areas.
Mr. Kaime enlisted in the U.S. Army the day after Pearl Harbor and served for four years. He landed at Normandy Beach and crossed France and entered Germany. He was present for the liberation of Paris in August 1944 and was injured at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge near Aachen, Germany.
He served with distinction and his many medals include the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Kaime returned to the Largo Canyon to ranch and raise a family.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth; four children, Howard Kaime of Loveland, Dr. Melissa Kaime of San Diego, Calif.; Todd Kaime of Las Cruces, N.M., and Yodie Kaime Koontz of Lubbock, Texas; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Pool of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Laura Lemon of Durango, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mildred D. Mohney
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Mildred D. Mohney, who died Monday, March 15, 1999, at a Denver hospital from complications following surgery. She was 91.
Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mrs. Mohney was born March 2, 1908, in Bayfield. She was the daughter of Pine River Valley pioneers Oscar and Lena Carmack. She attended schools in Bayfield, the Old Fort Lewis College in Hesperus and Long Beach State College in California.
She married James A. Mohney on Dec. 21, 1928. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Mohney was a school teacher who taught in the Sunnyside area, Hesperus, Bayfield and in Cypress, Calif. She was a resident of Durango.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jo Murphy of Thornton; a son, James A. Mohney of Fort Collins; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Carmack and Dick Carmack, both of the Durango area; and 20 nieces and nephews.

Sylvia Eileen Parker Cowan
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bloomfield, N.M., for Sylvia Eileen Parker Cowan, who died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. She was 65.
Mrs. Cowan was born Dec. 16, 1933, in Lindreth, N.M. She married Donald O. Cowan Oct. 2, 1949.
Mrs. Cowan was a former resident of Durango.
Survivors include her husband, Donald O. Cowan; and eight children, Donald R. Cowan, Linda Misenar, Beverly Cowan, Cary Cowan, Cyrena Casey, Royce Cowan, Dain Cowan and Renella Boyle.
The cause of death was not available.
Max Martinez
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Durango Baptist Church for Max Martinez, a former Durango High School football player, who died Sunday, March 14, 1999 in Seattle. The cause of death was unknown. He was 39.
The Rev. Bob Ross will officiate at services. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mr. Martinez was born Nov. 25, 1959 in Fruita. He graduated from Durango High School in 1978, where he was on the wrestling and football teams. He had been a resident of the Seattle area for the past 9 years, and owned a building restoration company there.
Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Martinez in 1981 and Ricky Lee Martinez in 1993.
He is survived by a daughter, Charissa Martinez, of Seattle; his mother and stepfather, Lucy and John Martinez of Durango; a father, Joe Martinez of Salt Lake City; a brother, Louis Martinez of Port Lyons, Alaska; two sisters, Debbie Kadel of Grand Junction and Linda Tucson of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.

Henry M. Glosser
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Henry M. Glosser, who died March 11, 1999 in Durango. He was 75.
Father Mike McCleary will officiate at services. There will be cremation.
Mr. Glosser was born February 24, 1924 in Roth, Germany. He grew up in Germany with his older sister and half sister. He served on a German Navy submarine in the Atlantic during the war. After the war, he wanted to come to the United States. An aunt who had come to the United States in the 1920s sponsored him, and he arrived in Chicago in early 1952. He worked as a tuckpointer, chauffeur and maintenance man. He played in a band on weekends and enjoyed working with wood, bricks and stone.
Mr. Glosser wrote to Margerete M. "Margie" Reichert in Germany and asked her to come to America and marry him. She met him in Chicago on Thanksgiving Day in 1956, and they were married on December 8, 1956.
They moved to Durango in late 1972. Mr. Glosser retired from Tamarron after 12 years there. In September 1990, he suffered a major stroke while in Germany, and another one 18 months later. His strokes left him unable to walk or speak.
Mr. Glosser loved time with people, work, jokes and his jazz music.
He is survived by his wife Margie of Durango, a nephew and his family, and several cousins.

Gladys Abigail Barlow Lee
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Gladys Abigail Barlow Lee, a longtime area school teacher, who died Wednesday, March 10, 1999. She was 92.
Rev. Bob Ross will officiate at services. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery.
Mrs. Lee was born January 1, 1907, in Durango. She attended local schools and graduated from Durango High School in 1925. She attended the old Fort Lewis College in Hesperus and taught at May Day in La Plata Canyon.
She married George Ellis Lee on March 24, 1928. Mrs. Lee was a member of the Durango Foursquare Church for over 70 years and started the Baracus Ladies’ Fellowship there. She was involved in local politics, and was a charter member of the Handicapped Citizens of Durango.
Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband George. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Luzar of Durango; sons, Ward Lee and Wayne Lee of Durango, and Eddie Lee of Grand Junction; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rebecca Tucson
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Rebecca Tucson, who died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, in Durango. She was 70.
Father Joseph L. Gallegos will officiate at services. Recitation of rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Church.
Mrs. Tucson was born March 27, 1928, in Gallina, N.M. She married Hijinio H. "Hinio" Tucson on Nov. 11, 1949, in Durango. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
Mrs. Tucson was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Cruz; and son, Desiderio Tucson. She is survived by her husband, Hijinio; sons, Amador C. Tucson and Felix A. Tucson, both of Durango, Isidro J. Tucson of La Posta, and Jake H. Tucson of Bloomfield, N.M.; daughters, Theresa Amato of Durango, Amy Gonzales of Salt Lake City, Beatrice Tucson of Ignacio, Debbie Tucson of West Jordan, Utah, and Connie Tucson of Ignacio; brothers, Modesto Mestas of Henderson, Nevada, and Roger Mestas of Durango; sisters, Corina Montano of Salt Lake City, Cordy Medina of Durango, and Ferminia Segura of Farmington; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Harry Levine
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the American Legion Hall for Harry Levine, a longtime Durango resident who died March 1 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. He was 80.
Mr. Levine was born June 25, 1918 in New York, N.Y. He was a World War II army veteran and a retired postal worker from Homestead, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia. He is survived by family members in California, Missouri, New York, Florida and Colorado.
Maurice Walter
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Elco Cemetery
in Bondad for Maurice Walter who died March 8, 1999, in Farmington. He was 90.
Richard Brown will officiate at services.
Mr. Walter married Reva Axel June 20, 1937, at Long Island, N.Y. In 1939, they moved to Farmington, N.M. where they opened a Navajo trading post, operating it until 1956 when they developed the main shopping center in downtown Farmington. They later moved to Bondad. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Farmington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Reva. Mr. Walter is survived by his son, Louis Walter of North Hills, Calif.; daughter, Sarah Robinson of Northridge, Calif.; two brothers, Maer Walter of Carlsbad, Calif., and David Walter of Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Thelma Nelson of Farmington; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard ‘Mac’ James McMullen
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Columba Catholic Church for Richard "Mac" James McMullen, a veteran of World War II, who died Friday, March 5, 1999. He was 78.
The Rev. Mike McCleary will officiate at services. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Columba. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mr. McMullen was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Lyons, Neb. He married Mrs. Angie Candelaria McMullen on July 3, 1982.
Mr. McMullen graduated from Regis High School in Denver and attended Regis College. He served as a captain and pilot in the Army Air Corps, flying missions in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for the state of Colorado as a right-of-way agent from 1963 to 1984, and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4031, American Legion Trujillo-Sheets Post 28, and B.P.O.E. Lodge 507.
He is survived by his wife, Angie, of Durango; four sons, Richard "Rick" McMullen of Durango, Bill McMullen of Ruidoso, N.M., Pat McMullen of Honolulu, Hawaii, and David McMullen, Prince Edward Island, Canada; one daughter, Joan Tomsic of Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; two sisters, Joan Mueting of Lincoln, Neb., and Peggy Rose of San Clemente, Calif.; two stepsons, David Candelaria of Grants Pass, Ore., and Craig Candelaria of Costa Mesa, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. McMullen was preceded in death by his first wife, Patty Harrell McMullen.
