Margaret Rea Weddle
Services were held March 20 at St. Catherine’s Church in Kamiah, Idaho, for Margaret Rea Weddle, who died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood, Idaho, of complications relating to chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. She was 74.
Mrs. Weddle was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Durango. She attended school in Oxford and Durango through high school.
On Aug. 14, 1942, she married Charles H. Weddle in Aztec, N.M. The couple lived most of the time in Weippe and Kamiah, Idaho.
Mr. and Mrs. Weddle were honored as grand marshals of the Kamiah Barbecue Days several years ago. Mrs. Weddle enjoyed dancing, watching her children and grandchildren in sports, rodeoing, riding horses and working in her flower gardens.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Crawford.
Survivors include her husband; her stepmother, Cathlene Rea of Durango; two sons, Charles R. Weddle Jr. and Darrell Weddle, both of Kamiah; six brothers, Earl Rea, Ronald Rea and Donald Rea, all of Ignacio, Rex Rea of Arvada, George Greer of Mancos and Chester Warner of Perry, Utah; six sisters, Shirley Sutherlin and Peggy Leyshon, both of Ignacio, Georgia Dittmar, Sandra Walker and Linda Searcy, all of Durango, and Mary Goeglein of Farmington; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie E. deRegnier
Funeral services will be at Indiana Chapel Cemetery
in Marion County, Iowa for Marjorie E. deRegnier, a former Durango resident, who died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at the Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose. She was 76.
Mrs. deRegnier moved from Texas to Durango in 1984 and back to Texas in 1995. She was a communication supervisor for Texas Instruments in Dallas. She made her final move to Montrose in January 1998.
She is survived by her husband, Don deRegnier of Montrose; a son, Don deRegnier II; two brothers, James O’Leary of Montana and Richard O’Leary of Alaska; and two grandchildren.
The cause of death was not available.
Lucinda Tucson Gladden
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at The Lighthouse Church on Highway 64 for Lucinda Tucson Gladden, who died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. She was 72.
The Rev. John Schrock will officiate. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. at Greenmount Cemetery
in Durango.
Mrs. Gladden was born Oct. 26, 1926, in Santa Rita, N.M. She worked for 25 years as a preschool teacher. Mrs. Gladden was a former resident of Durango. She was preceded in death by her husband, Faustine Tucson; and by a son, Divotto Tucson.
Survivors include her husband, Dave Gladden of Farmington; four sons, Caesar Tucson of Hayward, Calif., Hector Tucson of Durango, and Ronnie Tucson and Vernon Tucson, both of Farmington; four daughters, Rose Tafoya, Karma Conner and Acoma Tucson, all of Farmington, and Arlene Cowger of Aztec, N.M.; two brothers, three sisters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The cause of death was not available.
Dorothy Graves Schutz
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. April 10 at the old Chromo schoolhouse on Highway 84 in Chromo for Dorothy Graves Schutz, who died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at Centura Health-Mercy Medical Center. She was 77.
There was cremation.
Mrs. Schutz was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Griffith. She graduated from Durango High School. She married Ernest Schutz in June 1941 in Aztec, N.M., and they moved to Long Beach, Calif., shortly thereafter.
While Mr. Schutz served in the Coast Guard during World War II, Mrs. Schutz remained in Long Beach working as manager for Safeway Stores. Upon his return, she became a full-time homemaker. The family moved to Santa Fe in 1948. After subsequent moves to Chama, N.M., and Durango, the family settled on the Schutz ranch in Chromo in the mid-1950s. Mrs. Schutz helped run the family quarter horse/cattle operation.
A former member of the Civics Club in Pagosa Springs, Mrs. Schutz was among those instrumental in developing a library for the town.
Mr. and Mrs. Schutz spent winters in the Phoenix area for 15 years before retiring to Chromo eight years ago.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Schutz of Chromo; three sons, Don of Wagon Mound, N.M., and Dennis and Dick, both of Chromo; a brother, Harold Schutz of Chromo; seven grandsons; a sister, Louise Blair of Wyoming; and four nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Aztec Museum Association, 125 N. Main Ave., Aztec, NM 87410 or to the Sisson Library-Book Fund, Memorial for Dorothy Schutz, P.O. Box 849, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. The library will note the donation for a specific book, if requested.

Betty Taylor Frye
Services will be planned at a later date for Betty Taylor Frye, a Durango resident who died Thursday, Mar. 25, 1999, in Durango. She was 73.
Mrs. Frye was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minn., where she attended school. She moved to Denver in 1950, after marrying Ben Taylor, who preceded her in death in 1975.
Mrs. Frye remarried to Phillip Eugene Frye on July 30, 1988, and the couple lived in Sedona, Ariz., before moving to Durango in 1991.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ben Taylor, and her second husband, Phillip Eugene Frye.
Mrs. Frye is survived by two daughters, Libby Taylor of Durango, Becky Counley of Durango; a son, David Taylor of Denver; a stepdaughter, Jane Ann Meier of Durango; a stepson, Todd Frye of Springville, Utah; a sister, Audrey Hogdin of Golden Valley, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.
There will be cremation.

John William Jenkins
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for John William Jenkins, a lifelong Durango resident who died Thursday, March 25, 1999, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was 36.
Father Andrew Cooley will officiate at services. Cremation will follow services. Also, a reception at the Elks Lodge, lower level, will be held after services.
Visitation is today from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Hood Mortuary.
Mr. Jenkins was born Sept. 8, 1962, in Montrose. He was an avid rock hound and outdoorsman, and spent time hiking with Richard Glasco, whom he considered a father. He worked with the Glasco family at Durango Builders.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sharon and Steve Grimes of Lovelock, Nevada; two sisters, Debra Jenkins of Jopkin, Mo., and Karen Taber of Naturita; a grandmother, Louise Steige of Pittsburg, Kan., and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Tracy Gillies Patcheck
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Durango Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for Tracy Gillies Patcheck, a Durango High School teacher who died Friday, March 26, 1999, near her home in the Cherry Creek area of La Plata County after falling from a horse. She was 35.
Bishop Dan F. Whitehead will officiate at services. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery
with Rev. Timothy Evers officiating.
Mrs. Patcheck was born Sept. 27, 1963, in Albuquerque. She moved to La Plata County in 1990, and married Michael Patcheck on Sept. 1, 1990, at Rockwood.
Mrs. Patcheck taught vocational agriculture and the Future Farmers of America program at Durango High School since November 1993. Prior to teaching, she worked with the La Plata County Planning Department. She loved to spend time in the outdoors and horseback riding.
She is survived by her husband, Michael; two sons, Mitchell and Baylen; parents Martin and Joan Gillies of Axtell, Utah; a sister, Shannon McWilliams, of Salt Lake City; grandparents Ross and Ethel McCausland of Durango; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Martina Esquibel
Mass of Christian Burial will be noon Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango for Martina Esquibel, who died Thursday, March 25, 1999.
Father Larry Gallegos will officiate at services. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mrs. Esquibel married Marcelino Esquibel on Dec. 5, 1938. The couple had 15 children, 39 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Esquibel spent most of her life in Durango and moved to Farmington in May 1996. She was a devoted Catholic and attended both Sacred Heart Church in Durango and St. Mary’s Church in Farmington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcelino; two sons, Gilbert and Lionel; one daughter, Sofia Ruiz; and one grandson, Lawrence Valdez.
She is survived by seven daughters, Flora Castor, Angie Mendoza and Katy Hernandez of Denver; Shirley Valencia of Ogden, Utah; Florence Valdez of Aztec; and Marcy Chavez and Sally Chavez of Farmington; and five sons, Don Esquibel, Joe Esquibel and Louis Esquibel of Durango; Leo Esquibel-Olguin of Aztec; and Raymond Esquibel of Farmington.
She is also survived by one brother and five sisters.
Frederick Rogers Schultz
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Florida Road for Frederick Rogers Schultz, who died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, in Durango. He was 77.
Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Hood Mortuary.
Mr. Schultz was born Jan. 28, 1922. The family lived in Salina, Kan., until he was a young teen-ager and then moved to Bonnerdale, Ark. He attended Southwestern Junior College in Keene, Texas. He married Arlene Doris Ebel June 14, 1943, in Salinas, Calif. That fall, Mr. Schultz enrolled at Union College in Lincoln, Neb., as a theology student. He graduated from Union in the spring of 1945 and immediately entered his chosen service as a pastor for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mr. Schultz’s first pastorates were in Iowa. He was instrumental in building, completing and remodeling churches and schools in Davenport, Iowa; New Haven Church in Overland Park, Kan.; Topeka, Kan.; Arvada, Yuma, Pagosa Springs and Durango.
He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Ed.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Arlene; two sons, Fred of Moses Lake, Wash., and Jan of Sedalia; a daughter, Janet of Forest Hills, N.Y.; two granddaughters; a sister, Eleanor Kresher of Goshen, Ark.; two brothers, Frank of Milwaukee, Ore., and Tom of Rossville, Ga., and many other relatives.
