Margarito "Mike" Vega Mendoza

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hood Mortuary Chapel for Margarito "Mike" Vega Mendoza, a former La Plata County undersheriff, who died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, from injuries suffered in a car crash in Durango. He was 71.
Chaplain Myron Darmour will officiate.
Mr. Mendoza was born Feb. 22, 1927, in Knippa, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in World War II.
After moving to Durango, Mr. Mendoza worked for the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement.
He is survived by two daughters, Dolores Rangel of Fort Worth, Texas and Margie Jones of Derby, Kan.; two sisters, Vickie Rotondi of Dallas and Gladys Bargas of Fort Worth; and a brother, Eugene Mendoza of Dallas.
Steven F. Perkins

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Hood Mortuary Chapel for Steven F. Perkins, a Durango resident, who died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, from injuries suffered in a car crash in Durango. He was 51. Rick Baker and family members will officiate at services.
Mr. Perkins was born April 1, 1947, in Marysville, Kan. For 20 years he lived in Beaumont, Texas. He moved to Durango in 1991.
Mr. Perkins is survived by his partner of 27 years, Ann Perkins; two daughters, Candice Freeman of Austin, Texas and Dale Lin Kord of Durango; five sons, Christopher, Steven D., Robert, Benjamin and Luke, all of Durango; a brother, Ben Perkins of Hutchison, Kan.; a sister, Deana Zumalt of Kansas; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Manna Soup Kitchen, or to the Community of Learners charter school.
Shirley Lucille Cobel

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Shirley Lucille Cobel, who died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in Durango. She was 75.
The Rev. Larry Snider will officiate. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Hood Mortuary.
Mrs. Cobel was born Nov. 29, 1923, in Clayton, N.M. She married Art Cobel in 1942 and was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughters, Carol Snider and Cindy Fletcher; brothers Ben Williams and Alton Williams; sisters Madeline Green and Bobbie Freestone; seven grandchildren; and nine-great-grandchildren.
The cause of death was not available.
Courtney Michelle Nuss

for Courtney Michelle Nuss, infant daughter of Denise and Jason Nuss, who died at birth Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in Durango.
The Rev. John Richardson will officiate.
In addition to her parents, Courtney is survived by her sister, Brianna Nuss of Durango; grandparents, Teresa and Darryl Hunt of Durango, Dennis and Leigh Goodwin of Roswell, N.M., and Rick and Lynn Locke of Carlsbad, N.M.; great-grandparents, Gladys Davies of Durango, Marie and Roger Hunt of Farmington, N.M., Mary and Bob Crawford of Alamogordo, N.M., and Earl Goodwin of Blanco, N.M.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Billie Louise Branham

Services and interment will be in Wynnewood, Okla., for Billie Louise Branham, who died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, in Rock Springs, Wyo., after an extended illness. She was 80.
Mrs. Branham was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Marietta, Okla. She graduated from Wynnewood High School in 1936 and attended a business college.
She married William Doyle Branham Dec. 28, 1937, in Angleton, Texas. She was an assistant sales manager for McColum’s House of Fashion in Cortez for 10 years and member of the Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, Robert Branham of Torrington, Wyo.; daughters, Rebecca Marshall of San Antonio, Texas, Susan Graham of Rock Springs, Wyo., Sally Webb of Brighton, Colo., and Cindy Dean of Evanston, Wyo.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
William Lester Webber

Private family funeral and burial will be held at a later date for William Lester Webber, who died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at his home in Farmington, N.M., after a lengthy illness. He was 83.
Mr. Webber was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Springcreek, Colo. He graduated from high school in Ignacio. In 1938, he married Irene Moore. They moved to the San Juan County area in 1976.
Mr. Webber was a carpenter and worked in construction of every conceivable area.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Leroy Webber of Henderson, Nev.; daughters, Barbara Randall of Grand Junction, Colo., and Betty Hollar of Bloomfield, N.M.; sisters, Emma Brown and Edna Morlan; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Douglas F. Motz

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hood Mortuary Chapel for Douglas F. Motz, an Aztec, N.M., resident who died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999 in Phoenix. He was 88.
Chaplain Myron Darmour will officiate at services.
Mr. Motz was born July 8, 1910, in LaJara, Colo., where he served on the town council for several years. He married Beatrice B. McDaniel Sept. 8, 1933 in Pagosa Springs. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
Mr. Motz worked in agriculture and produce for more than 60 years. He worked with his son at Riverview Tractor Co. in Durango.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice, Feb. 13, 1998.
Mr. Motz is survived by his son, Douglas R. Motz, of Aztec, N.M.; three sisters, Alice Gylling of Albuquerque, Ardith Wren of California, and Arlene Novak of California; grandson Douglas C. Motz of Phoenix; and two granddaughters, Melissa Motz of Aztec, N.M., and Pamela Motz of Aztec, N.M.
The cause of death was not available.
Charles Denton ‘Dent’ Dahmer
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Charles Denton "Dent" Dahmer, who died Monday, March 29, 1999, in Durango after an extended battle with cancer. He was 80.
The Rev. Ned Amstutz will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be in May at Fort Scott National Cemetery
in Fort Scott, Kan.
Mr. Dahmer was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Milo, Mo., where he attended school. He graduated from high school in Nevada, Mo. Mr. Dahmer was drafted into the U.S. Army April 18, 1941. He served four-and-a-half years in several European military campaigns. He was awarded five Bronze Stars.
He married Rosalie Kramer on June 29, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kan. The couple lived in Denver until 1973 when they moved to Durango.
Mr. Dahmer sold insurance in Fort Scott, Kan., Denver and Durango.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Dahmer of Durango; two sons, J. Michael Dahmer of Durango and Thomas D. Dahmer of Hong Kong; a daughter, Lynd Jones of Durango; a sister, Laudell Smith of East Wenatchee, Wash.; a brother, Glenn D. Dahmer of Nevada, Mo.; and four granddaughters.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mercy, or to the Patrick W. Luter Cancer Center, 3801 Main Ave., Durango, CO 81301.
Dorothy Dean Hibbard
Services will be held at a later date in San Diego for Dorothy Dean Hibbard, who died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in Durango. She was 80.
Mrs. Hibbard was born Nov. 14, 1918, in McCook, Neb. She lived most of her life in San Diego.
In 1982, Mrs. Hibbard moved to Durango to be near her family.
Mrs. Hibbard was a homemaker. She enjoyed painting and studying metaphysics.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnal Hibbard.
Survivors include three sons, Ken Hibbard of Durango and Dave Hibbard and Bob Hibbard, both of San Diego; two grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
