Ethel Wright Colvig

No services are planned for Ethel Wright Colvig, who died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at her home in Durango following an extended illness. She was 84.
Mrs. Colvig was born Feb. 6, 1914, in Lake City, Iowa. She and her husband, Porter "Cy" Colvig, moved to Durango in January 1996 to be near family.
Mrs. Colvig was preceded in death by her husband Cy, son Craig and step-son Bruce.
Survivors include her son, Jim Colvig of Durango; grandchildren, Jacy, Cassidy, Clay and Cameron, all of Durango; and one great-grandson.
Ethel Endersby
Dec. 15, 1998
Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco, Texas, for Ethel Endersby, who died of natural causes Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Waco, Texas. She was 78.
Burial services will be in Durango.
Mrs. Endersby was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Cormorant, Minn. She married Arthur Endersby in 1945 in California. They were longtime residents of Durango and had lived in Waco since 1972.
Mrs. Endersby was employed as a licensed vocational nurse at Hillcrest until her retirement in 1985. She was a Presbyterian.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Frields of Waco, Texas; son, Thomas Endersby of Hewitt, Texas; sisters, Bernice Gripentog of Henderson, Nev., Fern Howlett of St. Paul, Minn., and Nadine Bodine of Durango; brothers, Edward Mitchell of Palm Springs, Calif., and Howard Mitchell of Medford, Ore.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Community Cancer Association in Waco.
Ulys S. Payne

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Englewood Family Funeral Care in Englewood, Colo., for Ulys S. Payne, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Englewood, Colo. He was 90.
Mr. Payne was born Sept. 4, 1908, in Crosby County, Texas. He married Mae Ola Burton in 1928 in Ignacio.
Mr. Payne retired from Gates Rubber Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include his sons, Stanley Payne of Deer Trail, Colo., and Ulys Payne and Cecil Payne, both of Englewood, Colo.; and daughters, Eula Mae Clements of Denver, Colo., and Charlotte Hartley of Houston, Texas.
The cause of death was not available.
Eleanor M. Sattler Romine

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Memorial Park Cemetery
in Chanute, Kan., for Eleanor M. Romine, a former Red Cross volunteer, who died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at St. Francis Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kan. She was 72.
Sister Connie Haug will officiate at services. Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson Mortuary in Chanute.
Mrs. Romine was born Eleanor M. Sattler Nov. 10, 1926, in Herndon, Kan. She married Robert Romine on Aug. 14, 1948, in Erie, Kan.
Mrs. Romine was a housewife. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Chanute.
She is survived by two sons, Dan Romine of Chanute and Larry Romine of Enumclaw, Wash.; two daughters, Rosemary Roberts of Durango and Sharon Gard of Wichita; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
JoAnn Preston McKee
Dec. 8, 1998
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Pine River Valley Baptist Church of Ignacio for JoAnn Preston McKee, who died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, in Phoenix, Ariz. She was 60.
The Rev. Joe Sparks will officiate. Burial will be at the Ignacio Cemetery.
Mrs. McKee was born Dec. 2, 1938, in Cheyenne, Wyo. She graduated with honors from Ignacio High School in 1957. She married Robert L. McKee in 1961.
Mrs. McKee then lived in Cheyenne, Wyo., until 1993 when she moved to Phoenix, Ariz. While in Phoenix, she was a home loan processor.
Survivors include her husband, Robert L. McKee of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons, William Michael Stogner of Belton, Mo., R. Shawn McKee of Fort Collins, Colo., and Christopher P. McKee of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, Ronald Preston of Greeley, Colo., and Kenneth Preston of Aztec, N.M.; sisters, Carmen Rea of Ignacio and Shirley Vrtaka of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four granddaughters.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 2222 S. Dobson Road, No. 401, Mesa, AZ 85202.

Doris S. Olson
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church for Doris S. Olson, who died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in Durango after a lengthy illness. She was 81.
The Rev. Richard Calhoun will officiate. Interment of Mrs. Olson’s cremains will follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mrs. Olson was born July 8, 1917, in Cleveland, N.D. She married Lloyd Olson Oct. 8, 1939, in Sykeston, N.D.
Mrs. Olson was a retired medical records transcriptionist at Mercy Medical Center in Durango. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Durango.
Mrs. Olson was Past Matron of La Plata Chapter, Order of Eastern Star 83, past president of the Animas Valley Garden Club, Past Grand of the Rebekah Lodge, past president of the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter and a member of the Animas Valley Grange.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Olson of Durango; sons, William Olson of Lewistown, Mont., Thomas Olson of Fargo, N.D., and James Olson of Alamosa, Colo.; daughter, Betty Peterson of Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and brothers, Irvin Stiles of Grand Forks, N.D., Stanley Stiles of Bothel, Wash., and Charles Stiles of Riverside, Calif.
Memorial donations may be made to The San Juan Shrine Crippled Children’s Fund.
Giani Eileen Barrows
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Greenmount Cemetery
for Giani Eileen Barrows, a second-grade student at Florida Mesa Elementary School, who died Sunday, Jan. 24, near the Piedra River. She was 7.
Father Mike McCleary will officiate at services. A reception will follow at the Clinton residence, 40 Applewood Loop.
Ms. Barrows was born Aug. 30, 1991, in San Diego, Calif. She was called a friendly child and very inquisitive of people and life. She loved animals and wanted to be a veterinarian when she grew up.
She is survived by her mother, Lori Barrows of Durango; her mother’s fiancé, Ralph Roberson of Durango; a stepsister, Allyson Roberson of Farmington; a grandmother, Eileen Drey of Argyle, Wis.; two aunts, Dawn Bury and Tammy Kelly; an uncle, Greg Barrows; and many cousins.
Contributions may be made to the Giani Barrows Memorial Fund, c/o First National Bank, P.O. Drawer L, Durango, CO 81302; or to the La Plata County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2164, Durango CO 81302.
Barrows died in a car with her father, Lawrence Gierisch of Durango, from inhaling toxic gas, according to the Archuleta County coroner.
Mary Elizabeth Steinberger
Mary Elizabeth Steinberger died Thursday, Jan. 28, in Durango.
She was 83.
No funeral services are planned. The body is at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.
Mrs. Steinberger was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Denver. She grew up in Hollywood, Calif. and volunteered at the Santa Terasita Hospital, helping elderly patients.
Mrs. Steinberger was preceded in death by her husband, Lorn L. Steinberger.
She is survived by two daughters, Angela M. Steinberger of Ignacio and Sue Johnston of Henderson, Nevada.
