Vera Griffin Holmberg

A celebration of life memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for Vera Griffin Holmberg, a longtime resident of Durango and member of a pioneer family from the greater Four Corners area. Mrs. Holmberg died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998. She was 86.
Mrs. Holmberg was born Feb. 2, 1912, in Denver, and lived in Durango the majority of her life.
Mrs. Holmberg was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for more than 70 years, and was active in the Grannies Club, Seniors Community Center and Tops.
Following the service, burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Columbarium at St. Mark’s, which she and her late husband, Carrol Holmberg, donated to the church.
Survivors include members of the Holmberg, Griffin, Bluck and Real families.

Louise M. Carrell

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today at St. Columba Catholic Church for Louise M. Carrell, who died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in Del Norte, Colo. She was 71.
The Rev. Mike McCleary and the Rev. Jesse Tate will officiate.
Mrs. Carrell was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Ft. Garland, Colo. She was a resident of Ignacio.
Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Gilbert Carrell; son, Michael Krier of Lake Vallecito, daughters, Dorothy Tate of Albuquerque, N.M., and Margaret Simon and Catherine Wilson, both of Durango; nine grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Paul John of Blanca, Colo., Ida John and Verna Cordova, both of Ft. Garland, Colo., Karl John of Pueblo, Colo., Alzera Gunter of Blanco, Colo., and Grace Stephens of Alamosa, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David A. Campbell
Dec. 28, 1998
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ignacio Community Church for David A. Campbell, who died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in Ignacio. He was 75.
The Rev. Curt Alderton will officiate. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery. Visitation will be today and Thursday at Hood Mortuary.
Mr. Campbell was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Ignacio. He married Helen Knickerbocker Oct. 27, 1946, in Bayfield.
Mr. Campbell was a farmer and rancher. He retired in 1980 but continued to help his daughter and son-in-law on the ranch. He worked at Basin Livestock for 45 years.
He was a member of the Ignacio Community Church, Colorado Farm Bureau and Colorado Cattlemen Association, and was director of the Spring Creek Ditch for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Campbell of Ignacio; daughters, Davylou Beaty of Allison and Katheryn Harris of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sisters, Cora Hiner of Durango, Ethel Poma of Pagosa Springs, Frances McKenzie of Grand Junction and Marie Floyd of Battlement Mesa; brother, Kenneth Campbell of Pagosa Springs; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Henry J. Trujillo Sr.
Dec. 25, 1998
A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 31 at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Henry Joseph Trujillo Sr. of Durango, who died at Centura Health Mercy Medical Center on Christmas Day. He was 83.
Father Mike McCleary will say the Mass. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mr. Trujillo was born Nov. 7. 1915 in Kim, Colo. He was a retired carpenter who enjoyed craftsmaking, and hunting and fishing in the mountains of Colorado. He also traveled extensively through Europe, Mexico, Canada and throughout the United States.
He is survived by a sister, Annie Olguin, of Trinidad, Colo.; eight children, including Ursula Manriquez, Claude Trujillo, Carolyn Rourke, Ernestine Cole, Harold Trujillo, Marguerite Albright, Sherrie Quintana, and Henry J. Trujillo Jr.; fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Carlotta Gurule Trujillo, and a son, Victor David Trujillo, who was killed in the Vietnam War.

Maxine E. Shubert

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cornerstone Church for Maxine E. Shubert, who died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in Durango. She was 65.
The Rev. Shawn O’Reilly will officiate. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery.
Mrs. Shubert was born Jan. 30, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas.
She lived in the area for many years.
She married Chester Shubert July 16, 1949, in Seguin, Texas.
Mrs. Shubert worked for Woolworth’s for 20 years as a clerk and at the lunch counter.
Survivors include her husband, Chester M. Shubert of Durango; sons, Dennis Shubert of Arboles, and Kenneth Shubert of Durango; daughters, Sheryl Kennington of Durango, Janet Reynolds of San Antonio, Texas and Cindy McCormick of Pagosa Springs; sisters, Marjorie Smith of Lancaster, Calif., and Alice Jean Massey of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Damasio Mark Albo

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Damasio Mark Albo, who died Christmas Day at San Juan Regional Hospital in Farmington, N.M., of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 18.
Father Joseph L. Gallegos will officiate at services. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery. An evening prayer service will be held tonight at 7 at Hood Mortuary Chapel.
Mr. Albo was born May 27, 1980, in Durango, where he was a lifetime resident.
Mr. Albo loved his car and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Joe Pete and Elvina Albo of Durango; his mother, Sarah L. Atencio of Durango; sisters, Linda Marcus of Bloomfield, N.M., Maxine Albo of Durango, Karen Stewart of Albuquerque, N.M., and Geraldine Torres of Durango; brothers, Pete and Lorenzo Albo of Durango, a grandmother, Victoria Atencio of Ignacio; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary E. Huntsman

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for Mary E. Huntsman, a former office nurse, who died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in Durango. She was 71.
The Rev. Robert Kujath will officiate.
Mrs. Huntsman was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Walsenburg, Colo. She was a longtime resident of Durango.
She married Elmer R. Huntsman Oct. 30, 1948, at Aztec, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her father, a son, a granddaughter, a sister and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, of Durango; sons, Bruce Hamer of Durango, Danny Huntsman of Durango and Don "Joe" Huntsman of Bloomfield, N.M.; daughters, Verna Huntsman of Farmington and Vivian Neil of Ignacio; mother, Stella Bustos of Huntington Beach, Calif.; sisters, Rita Menaldino of Tucson, Ariz., Lorraine Herrera of Marvel and Inez Munoz of Newman, Calif.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
