September 12, 1919 - April 19, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Lifetime Cedaredge resident, Marcella M. Mahannah, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. She was 83
A graveside funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at Cedaredge Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colorado. Kim Shreeves will officiate. A visitation for family and friends is planned for Wednesday, April 23, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge.
Marcella Maryann Stockemer was born on September 12, 1919 in Wichita, Kansas to the late Christopher and Susan (Heimerman) Stockemer. She moved to Cedaredge when she was very young and resided there until her time of death.
On September 21, 1938, Marcella married Lloyd C. Mahannah in Grand Junction, Colorado. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1990 in Cedaredge.
Marcella was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and embroiderering
Survivor’s grateful to have shared in Marcella’s life include her two sons, Albert Mahannah and Kenneth Mahannah, both of Cedaredge, CO; two brothers, Matt Stockemer and wife Mona of Sweet Home, OR and Paul Stockemer and wife Dorothy of Cedaredge; seven sisters, Barbara Pyle of Provo, UT, Mildred Chavez and husband Clovis, of Sweet Home, OR, Frances Rieke and husband Jerry, of Lebanon, OR, Martha Finch and husband Mel of Eugene, OR, Ann Rice and husband Jim of Sweet Home, OR, Margaret Lacy of Cedaredge, CO, and Evelyn Wilson of Salem, OR. She is further survived by five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Bill Stockemer and a sister, Johanna Liming.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Unit at Willow Tree at Delta, 2050 S. Main St., Delta, CO 81416.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Bee LeVeck
March 10, 1913 - April 19, 2003
LAKEWOOD, CO - Longtime Cedaredge resident, Bee LeVeck, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at her daughter’s home, in Lakewood, Colorado. She was 90.
A memorial service for Mrs. LeVeck will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Cedaredge United Methodist Church.
Bertha B. Whitcomb was born on March 10, 1913 in Weston, Colorado to the late James L. and Nellie (Merchant) Whitcomb. She spent her childhood in Weston and in Trinidad, Colorado. In 1931 Bee graduated from North High School in Denver. She continued her education at the Barnes Business School.
On January 5, 1935, Bee was joined in marriage to Walter J. LeVeck. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1993 in Cedaredge, Colorado. They moved to Cedaredge in 1972, after having spent 43 years in Denver.
Mrs. LeVeck was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church, the Baca Busy Bees and the Plant and Dig Club of Cedaredge. Among her many interests, she most enjoyed gardening, quilting and reading. She also loved to watch birds and the deer from her kitchen window.
Survivors grateful to have shared in Bee’s life include two daughters, Joyce and her husband Dr. Robert Wood of Lakewood, CO and Judy and husband Colonel Jack Stephenson of Wichita Falls, TX; a son James LeVeck and his wife Kathy of Brea, CA. She is further survived by a sister, Daisy Yeater of Pueblo, CO; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
Besides her parents and her husband Walter, she was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Carol Ann Beall
February 15, 1935 - April 18, 2003
LAS VEGAS, NV - Longtime Las Vegas, Nevada resident, Carol Ann Beall, died Friday, April 18, 2003 at home in Las Vegas under the care of Family Home Hospice. She was 68.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 5th at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford, Colorado. Art Wolverton will officiate.
Carol Ann Kuhns was born on February 15, 1935 in Alexandria, South Dakota to the late Forrest and Dora (Tunnicliff) Kuhns.
Carol Ann married Robert Beall on August 27, 1983 in Lancaster, California. He survives. They resided in Las Vegas for the past 14 years having moved from California.
Carol enjoyed cooking and gardening. However, her true passion was quilting. She recently was featured as “Quilter of the Year” at the Desert Quilters Guild Show in Henderson, Nevada. She was past president and past secretary of the Guild. She was also very active in several other quilting groups. She has been a member of the American Legion Auxillary of Lancaster, California.
Survivor’s grateful to have shared in Carol’s life include her husband, Robert Beall of Las Vegas; three sons, Dan Raanes and his wife Karol, Randy Raanes and his wife Janet, Scott Raanes and his wife Carol,; a daughter, Victoria Griffith and her husband Steve, all residents of the Antelope Valley, CA; and a brother - in - law, Jerry Beall of Highland, CA. She is further survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by, a brother Donald Kuhns and a sister Donna Rayman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family Home Hospice, P.O. Box 15645, Las Vegas, NV 89114 - 5645.

Marilyn J. Bader
May 2, 1927 - May 19, 2003
PAONIA - Marilyn J. Bader died on Monday, May 19, 2003, at Paonia Care Center in Paonia, Colorado. She was 76.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at the Paonia United Methodist Church with Pastor John Nadasi officiating. Services will conclude at the church.
Marilyn Joy Schaffer was born on May 2, 1927, to James and Virgie W. (Fields) Schaffer in Durango, Colorado. She spent her childhood in Durango and Denver, graduating from West High School in Denver in 1945.
On April 23, 1955, Marilyn married Ernest Ames Bader in Denver, Colorado. He survives.
Marilyn was a long distance operator for the telephone company. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star in Denver, and was a member of the Christian Scientist Society. She loved being a homemaker and doing special things for her family.
Those grateful to have shared in Marilyn’s life include her husband, Ernest Ames Bader of Paonia; four sons: Doug Bader and his wife Vicki of Aurora, Tom Bader and his wife Deborah of Arvada, Todd Bader and his wife Lisa of Evanston, WY, and Dean Bader and his wife Sylvia of Orem, UT; one daughter, Aril Lowry and her husband David of Englewood, NJ; and one brother James M. Schaffer of Englewood, CO. She is further survived by seven grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Meredith Verhoeff; and one brother, Wilbur Schaffer.
Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn’s Memory to the Paonia Care Center, 1625 Meadowbrook Blvd., Paonia, CO 81428.

Dorothy Helen Alexander
January 21, 1911 - April 22, 2003
DELTA - Lifetime Delta resident, Dorothy Helen Alexander, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at Sunrise Home in Delta. She was 92.
A Rosary will be recited at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta on Friday, April 25, 2003, 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, April 26th, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Delta, Colorado. Father Mark Bettinger will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at the Delta City Cemetery at Delta. Visitation for family and friends will be held 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p. m., Friday, April 25, 2003 at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel 800 Palmer St. Delta.
Dorothy Helen Fedler was born on January 21, 1911 at Montrose, Colorado to the late Jacob John and Regina (Dorie) Fedler. Dorothy spent her childhood in the Montrose/Delta area and remained there for the rest of her life.
On March 26, 1940, she was united in marriage with her best friend and the love of her life, John “Jack” Alexander, in Delta, Colorado. Jack recently passed away on March 26, 2003. It was their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Dorothy was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta. She enjoyed playing solitaire and reading.
Survivor’s who were honored to share in Dorothy’s life include; two daughters: Regina “Gean” and husband Dudley Davis of Boulder City, Nevada, and Pat and husband Ralph Mangum of Delta; five grandchildren: Mike Davis, Teri (Davis) Palmer, Dudley Davis,III, Tricia (Davis) Starr and Gina (Mangum) Cassel; eleven great - grandchildren; three great - great - grandchildren; many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly; and one sister - in - law, Verline Alexander of Grand Junction.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Walter and Charles Felder.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, in c/o Taylor Funeral Service, 800 Palmer St., Delta, CO 81416.

Tiffany Dawn Kropf
April 25, 2003 - April 26, 2003
HOTCHKISS - Tiffany Dawn Kropf died April 26, 2003, at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 28, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Delta, Colorado. Dannie Hostetler, Myron Hostetler and Arlin Geigley will officiate. Burial will follow at the Sunnyview Mennonite Cemetery in Olathe, Colorado. Visitation for family and friends was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Hotchkiss.
Tiffany Dawn Kropf was born on April 25, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Conrad and Krista (Hostetler) Kropf. She was one day old.
Survivor’s include her parents, Conrad and Krista Kropf of Hotchkiss; paternal grandparents, Marion and Dorothy Kropf of Hotchkiss; maternal grandparents, Edwin and Eileen Hostetler of Hotchkiss; five uncles, seven aunts and fourteen cousins. She was preceded in death by one aunt and two uncles.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Penelope C. Rugg
Oct. 18, 1938 - Apr. 15, 2003
CEDAREDGE, CO - Penelope C. Rugg, a resident of Glendale, Arizona, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at her sister’s residence in Cedaredge, Colorado. She was 64.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
Penelope C. Graves was born on October 18, 1938, to Claire S. and Georgia A. (Wilson) Graves in Glendale, California. She spent her early childhood in Boulder, Colorado and graduated from Boulder High School in 1956. Penelope lived in Hermann, Missouri, from 1973 to 1993, and then moved to Glendale, Arizona, where she had resided for the past eleven years.
She worked as a customer service representative in human resources for Wells Fargo Bank for nine years. She had been a former member of the First Baptist Church in Hermann, Missouri. During this time she also drove school bus for twenty years for the Gasconade County School District. Among Penelope’s interests were reading, crafts and Bingo. The love of her life was her grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
Those grateful to have shared in Penelope’s life include a son, Ronald Rugg of Glendale, AZ; a daughter, Georgianne DeLura of Waukegan, IL; a brother, Jerry Graves of Kremmling, CO; and a sister, Jean Paull and her husband Barry of Cedaredge, CO. She is further survived by four grandchildren: Jessica Ragsdale, Veronica Fincher, Tory Rugg, and Alie Rugg; two great - grandchildren: Daniel Compton and Alana Compton; and nine nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Douglas Graves; and a daughter, Susie Graves.

Ruth S. Balch
March 2, 1908 - April 24, 2003
GRAND JUNCTION - Former Hotchkiss resident, Ruth S. Balch, died on Thursday April 24, 2003, at her home in Grand Junction. She was 95.
A Graveside Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Riverside Cemetery, Hotchkiss, Colorado. Ruth S. Sylvester was born on March 2, 1908, at Maynard, Iowa, to S.A. and Flora (Baxter) Sylvester.
When Ruth was five years of age her family moved to Hotchkiss. She graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1926. Ruth received her Teacher’s Certificate from Northern Colorado University, formerly Colorado State Teachers College. She also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Southern California, in 1931.
On July 7, 1933, Ruth was united in marriage to W.G. Balch at Price, Utah. Mr. Balch died on April 12, 1956, near Hotchkiss, Colorado.
Ruth was a school teacher before her marriage. Upon marriage, she became a homemaker and did substitute teaching. In later years she was employed as a retail clerk.
Mrs. Balch was a member of Hotchkiss Community United Methodist Church, a past member of North Fork AAUW, Emblem Club, Cottonwood Club, and numerous other organizations in Hotchkiss. She also enjoyed oil and watercolor painting, pinochle, football games, and her family.
Those grateful to have shared in Ruth’s life include her daughter, Kay Balch, of Grand Junction; two granddaughters: Kim Baker of St. Louis, MO, and Judy Scheffel of San Francisco, CA; and one grandson, John Scheffel of New York, NY .
Along with her husband, W.G. Balch, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Lynette Scheffel; a sister, Olive L. Gruning; and two brothers, Paul W. Sylvester, and Richard M. Sylvester.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Doyle William Ashby
June 17, 1942 - April 17, 2003
DELTA - Longtime Delta resident, Doyle William Ashby, died on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at his residence. He was 60.
A funeral service for Mr. Ashby is planned for 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2003, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, Colorado. Joe Chapman and Larry Lugard will officiate. Burial will follow at Pea Green Cemetery, Pea Green, Colorado. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 19th, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Doyle William Ashby was born on June 17, 1942, to William Arthur and Mary Agnes (Nation) Ashby in Delta, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Delta and graduated from Delta High School. Doyle spent three years in Dolores, Colorado, and returned to Delta for the remainder of his life.
On October 18, 1963, Doyle married Betty Byers in Delta. She survives.
Mr. Ashby worked for the Forest Service in the engineering department. He enjoyed going 4 - wheeling and camping. The greatest joy of his life was all of his grandchildren and it was his number one hobby to make them happy. He truly loved all little kids.
Those grateful to have been a part of Doyle’s life include his wife, Betty Ashby of Delta; his father, William Ashby of Delta; two sons: Tom Ashby and his wife Vanessa of Atoka, OK, and Russ Ashby of Grand Junction; a daughter, Ginger Byers and her husband Terry of Delta; two sisters: Bessie Trimmer and her husband Ted of Grand Junction, and Beverly Peterson and her husband Marvin of Glade Park, CO; three grandchildren: Riley and Dylan Ashby of Grand Junction, and Olivia Ashby of Atoka, OK. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ashby; three sisters: Shirley Ashby, Mary Ellen Ashby, and Annie McFarlin; and a grandson, Bailey Ashby.
Memorial contributions may be made in Memory of Doyle Ashby to the General Assembly of the Church of The First Born, 659 Grand, Delta, CO 81416.

John M. London
May 17, 1922 - April 20, 2003
DELTA - John M. London, longtime Delta resident, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at his residence. He was 80.
There are no services planned at this time.
John M. London was born on May 17, 1922, in Olathe, Colorado, to the late James Albert and Fanny M. (Smith) London. He spent his childhood in Coal Creek near Olathe and graduated from Olathe High School. He continued his education at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado.
John married Maxine (Gallemore) Richards on January 21, 1984, in Delta, Colorado. She survives. He had previously married Ruth Heath in 1948, in Montrose, Colorado. To this union they had a son Calvin. The marriage ended in divorce in 1955.
Before moving to Delta 47 years ago, John resided in Montrose for five years after having spent 28 years in Olathe. John retired in 1987, after over 20 years of service as a plumber for Delta Plumbing and Heating. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. While John was in the military he was the recipient of a Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic - Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, a Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars. John served on the Delta Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Delta Elks Lodge No. 1235 where he served as a Past Exalted Ruler. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, four - wheeling, and traveling in his motor home.
Survivors grateful to have shared in John’s life include, his wife Maxine London, of Delta; a son, Calvin London and his wife Sharon of Montrose; four step - daughters: Debbie Mello and husband Kevin of Orange, CA; Mary Newharth and husband Don of Florida; Sharla Wilson and husband Lyle of Grand Junction; and Frances Yahn and husband Danny of Olathe. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and second wife, Lucille, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Bruce.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
