Demis Paul Martinez Jr.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Grand Mesa Baptist Church in Grand Junction, Colo., for Demis Paul Martinez Jr., who died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at University Hospital in Denver, Colo. He was 60.
Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Martinez was born Nov. 24, 1937, in Durango. He married Conchita Pacia Nov. 24, 1988.
He spent a lot of time in Hawaii, Guam and the Philippines. In his early years, he was an insurance agent and a musician. He enjoyed flying airplanes and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his son, Demis Paul IV.
Survivors include his mother, Celia Martinez of Albuquerque; wife, Conchita Martinez of Grand Junction, Colo.; sons, Neal of Arvada, Colo., Ken of Longmont, Colo., and Anthony of Grand Junction, Colo.; brothers, Eugene Martinez of Farmington, N.M., and George Martinez of Longmont, Colo.; sisters, Donna Swayne and Ruby McPherson, both of Albuquerque; and eight grandchildren.
William Malcolm ‘Mickey’ Logan

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hood Mortuary Chapel for William Malcolm "Mickey" Logan, a lifetime member of the Rotary Club, who died May 2, 1998, at Centura Health-Mercy Medical Center in Durango. He was 93.
Chaplain Myron Darmour will officiate at services. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
Mr. Logan was born Oct. 19, 1904, in Silverton to William Logan and Isabelle Mitchell Logan. He married Lillian Tiffany April 12, 1947, at the First Presbyterian Church. The two celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
He graduated from Silverton High School in 1924. He worked at Sunnyside Mine as an electrician until moving to Durango in 1929, when he went to work for Jack Lee at Rocky Mountain Electric Service. He bought the business the same year and owned it until 1997.
During World War II he was the only electrician to serve Durango and the surrounding area. He made airplane parts for the federal government and repaired airplane engines at the first airport in Durango, located where Fort Lewis College is now.
Mr. Logan was a lifetime member of the Rotary Club, holding the office of vice president among other offices. He was also a member of the National Electrical Apparatus Service Association and the Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; daughters Elizabeth McCoy and Virginia Snow of Durango; six grandchildren, Tracy McCoy, Rocky Beltran, Holly McCoy, Brendel McCoy, Doug Snow and Jody Snow, all of Durango; and great-granddaughter Amanda Beltran of Durango.

Betty J. (Bradford) Huffmyer

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at North Side Church of Christ in Farmington for Betty J. Huffmyer, who died Friday, May 1, 1998, in Pagosa Springs. She was 62.
Mr. Gene Chapin and Mr. Steve Roseberry will officiate at services. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Hood Mortuary in Durango.
Mrs. Huffmyer was born Betty J. Bradford April 8, 1936, in Portales, N.M.
She is survived by her husband, John Huffmyer, of Farmington; mother, Margaret Bradford, of Albuquerque; a son, Mark Huffmyer, of Bayfield; a daughter, Tammi Dorsey, of Denver; a brother, John R. Bradford III, of Albuquerque; and four grandchildren.

L.R. ‘Vern’ Siemens

L.R. "Vern" Siemens, a World War II veteran, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at his home in Holdenville, Okla. He was 75.
Mr. Siemens was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Corn, Okla. He graduated from Cowden High School in 1941 and married Addie Mae Brence in Cordell, Okla. a short time later.
Mr. Siemens served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 815th Tank Destroyer Battalion.
Upon returning from the war, he worked as an X-ray technician at Station Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas. He was a barber for 50 years and also worked as a U.S. Postal Service employee in Oklahoma and Colorado and as a farmer and rancher in Hughes County, Okla.
A member of the Church of Christ since age 16, he was ordained as an elder at the Church of Christ in Holdenville, Okla.
Mr. Siemens was an avid photographer, winning the best movie award from the Oklahoma City Cinematographers Society in 1967. He was a licensed aircraft pilot and owned a plane for several years. Mr. Siemens was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Jean, and grandson, Trent.
He is survived by his wife, Addie Mae of Holdenville; sons Eddie of Muldrow, Okla. and W.F. "Bill" of Oklahoma City; brothers, Delmer of Oklahoma City, Gene of Durango and Kenneth of Norman, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bert Martinez

Bert Martinez, a former railroad employee from Ignacio, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, in Colorado Springs. He was 80.
Mr. Martinez was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Ignacio. He served in the U.S. Army and then worked for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad for 30 years until his retirement. Mr. Martinez was living in Alamosa at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona A. Martinez; daughter, Eunice Lancing of Holbrook, Colo.; son, Wayne Martinez of Durango; three brothers, Bill of Del Norte, Colo., Del of Orem, Utah, and Tony of Mills, Wyo.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Lee B. Knickerbocker
June 26, 1998
Services were held June 30 at Oakley’s North Chapel in Roanoke, Va., for Lee B. Knickerbocker, who died Friday, June 26, 1998, in Roanoke, Va. He was 77.
Mr. Knickerbocker was born March 2, 1921, in Bayfield. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. In June 1944, he married Leona Richards.
Mr. Knickerbocker worked for Vanadium Corporation of America in Durango and Shiprock, N.M., before transferring to Virginia. Mr. Knickerbocker was a member of the Shenandoah Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Knickerbocker of Roanoke, Va.; daughters, Marty Roettenbacher of Durango, Jean Williams of Virginia and Donna Malone of Virginia; son, Alan Knickerbocker of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Knickerbocker of Nucla, Colo.; and sister, Helen Campbell of Ignacio.
Interment was in Sherwood Memorial Park in Roanoke, Va.
Brad L. Newton

Memorial services will be held at a later date for Brad L. Newton, who died of cancer Thursday, June 25, 1998, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Mont. He was 60.
Cremation has taken place.
Mr. Newton was born April 2, 1938, in Carlsbad, N.M. He attended schools in Bayfield and the University of Colorado in Boulder. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged July 27, 1963.
Mr. Newton was associated with the computer industry for 30 years. He held two patents for parts he designed. He worked for IBM, STC, Unisis International in Singapore and Northern Telecom International in Malaysia.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Newton of Wellington, Fla.; sons, Mike Newton of Castle Rock, Colo., Tim Newton of Kansas City, Kan., and Thomas Newton of Wellington, Fla.; daughters, Dawn Annis of Denver, Colo., and Jennifer Newton of Wellington, Fla.; brothers, Carroll Newton of St. Ignatius, Mont., Bill Newton of Denver, Colo., and Pat Newton of Nederland, Colo.; sisters, Zelta Isgar of Cortez and Bettye Powell of Ignacio; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Gordon C. Repp

No services will be held for Gordon C. Repp of Hesperus, a former heating/refrigeration technician, who died Friday, June 26, 1998, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. He was 51.
Visitation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Hood Mortuary.
Mr. Repp, a veteran, was born Jan. 13, 1947, in Albia, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie K., of Hesperus; two daughters, Holly Jacobus and Amanda Repp, both of Hesperus; a grandson, Harley Jacobus of Hesperus; and two brothers.
