Marion E. Amos
October 28, 1923 - May 13, 2003
CLIFTON - Former Longtime Delta resident, Marion E. Amos, of Clifton, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 79.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 21st, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Pastor Bruce A. Skelton will officiate. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 21st, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery
of Western Colorado in Grand Junction with graveside rites by the Grand Junction V.F.W. Post No. 1247. Immediately following the graveside service, friends are invited to an open house at Midland Village Recreation Center, 435 32 Rd., in Clifton.
Marion Edward Amos was born on October 28, 1923, to the late Robert and Belle (Murray) Amos in Goodland, Kansas. He spent his childhood in Ruleton, Kansas, and graduated from high school there.
Marion married Bernadine L. McDaniel on May 3, 1942, in St. Francis, Kansas. She survives. He and Bernadine moved to Delta in 1961 prior to moving to Clifton just three years ago.
Marion served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement he worked as a clothier. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delta, where he was the former superintendent of Sunday school and also the former treasurer. He enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Survivor’s include his wife of 61 years, Bernadine Amos of Clifton; two sons: Marion E. Amos, Jr. of Denver, CO, and Michael J. Amos and wife Marlene of Clifton; one daughter, Karlotta Kay Parry and her husband Ray of St. Anthony, ID; two brothers: Rex L. Amos and wife Jean of Hutchison, KS, and Glen E. Amos and wife Jean of Goodland, KS; a sister, Nancy Cloyd of Goodland, KS. He is further survived by eight grandchildren and eight great - grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Lyman R. Amos and Duane W. Amos; and one sister, Evelyn Ethel Amos.

Carl Brown
January 14, 1951 - May 12, 2003
PAONIA - Carl E. Brown of Paonia died at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Grand Junction on May 12, 2003, after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was 52.
Carl E. Brown was born on January 14, 1951, as an only child, to Emmett and Ora (Taylor) Brown. He graduated from Paonia High School in 1969, where he was excelled in art and wrestling and later coached wrestling.
Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1975 with three tours of duty in Vietnam. He received an associate degree in fine arts from a college in Washington, where he lived for 15 years. He returned to Paonia in 1989 to help his parents.
He was a painter, sculptor, welder and artist. His works are in many establishments in Paonia. He ran a small engine repair shop and tutored local children in art. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
Mr. Brown is survived by a aunt, Alma Hoskins, and many cousins in Missouri and Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Sunday, May 25, preceding a Memorial Day jam, where many musicians who knew Mr. Brown will play. Call 527 - 4645 for more information.

Henrietta “Henri” G. Belt
April 15, 1924 - May 14, 2003
DELTA - Henrietta “Henri” Gloria Belt was a perfectionist. Any task, project or activity, was given 110%, this continued on as she prepared to leave this life. Her passing was done with strength, dignity and style. She died on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at her home in Delta, Colorado surrounded by those she loved. She was 79.
A funeral service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 19th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Pastor James Conley will officiate. Interment will follow at the Delta City Cemetery, with graveside rites being performed by the Delta Emblem Club and dedicatory prayer
by Aaron Marvel. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, May 18th at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Henri was the daughter of George W. and Ruby (Malone) Fortune. She was born on April 15, 1924 in Trinidad, Colorado. She spent most of her youth in Grand Junction, Colorado and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1942.
When she ventured out on her own she met a young feisty, redheaded Texan by the name of L.J. Belt. They were married on June 28, 1947. After L.J.’s military service in Korea and in California, they moved to Delta, where they have resided for the past 51 years. Together they raised two children, and they have seven grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
Henri believed life began at 40. You could find her on the softball field in the summer and she was an avid bowler. She had many trophies to prove it. When arthritis took control of her hands she stopped bowling and pointed her energy toward the Elks Lodge in Delta where she worked and was a Charter Member and Past President of the Emblem Club. After retirement, her greatest love was volunteering as a “Pink Lady” at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. She loved helping other people and spending time with her Pink Lady Sisters. She made many cherished friendships during those days.
A rich legacy of truth, honor and hard work has been left with Henri’s family. “Little Memaw” will be greatly missed by her family. Survivor’s include her husband of nearly 55 years, L.J. Belt of Delta; one son, Lynn Jay Belt and wife Barbara of Delta; one daughter, Brenda Belt Marvel of Provo, UT; one brother, George Fortune of Grand Junction; six grandchildren: Michelle Armstrong and husband Steve of Wilmington, DE, Tricia Keller and husband J.R. of Delta, Trina Brillehart and husband Dave of Grand Junction, Raylynn Marvel of Oxnard, CA, Aaron Marvel and wife Mandy of Orem, UT, and Lee J. Marvel of Provo, UT. She is further survived by five great - grandchildren: Brandon Keller, Ethan Keller, Colby Keller, Maddy Brillhart and Mikayla Marvel. They were the love of her life. Her greatest worry about leaving this earth was L.J. Although he will be lost without her, he will be loved and well taken care of.
She now joins her parents, an infant son, a granddaughter, a great - granddaughter, a sister and other family and cherished friends on the next leg of the journey through life.
Henri’s family would like to thank Thelma and Linda from Touch of Care. They took loving care of their “Memaw”. They would also like to thank Anne at Hospice, who brought knowledge, care and comfort to L.J. as well as Henri. There is still goodness in this world.

Lois M. Hale
June 28, 1935 - May 6, 2003
ECKERT - Lois M. Hale, an Eckert resident, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Horizons Care Center.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Lois M. Shreck was born on June 28, 1935, to Owen and Mildred (Davis) Shreck in Grand Junction, Colorado. She spent her childhood in Grand Junction and attended high school in Broomfield, Colorado.
On May 4, 1957, Lois married Johnny Hale in Denver, Colorado. They lived in Gateway, Reed, Hotchkiss, and Cedaredge. For the past few years they have lived in Eckert. Johnny and Lois celebrated forty six years together just two days before her death.
Lois enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Those grateful to have shared in Lois’s life include her husband, Johnny Hale of Eckert; her son, Bill Hale and his wife Laurie of Hotchkiss; two brothers, Glen Shreck of Crawford, and Owen Shreck of Grand Junction; a sister, Ethel Washham of Pascoe, Washington; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and one infant sister.

William E. Moore, Jr.
March 2, 1940 - May 27, 2003
HOTCHKISS - William Emmett Moore, Jr., a longtime resident of Hotchkiss, died on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at his residence. He was 63.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Garden of Memories Cemetery
in Crawford, Colorado, with Art Wolverton officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807.
William Emmett Moore, Jr. was born on March 2, 1940, to the late William Emmett and Zola (McCleod) Moore, Sr. in Gooding, Idaho. He spent his childhood in the Nucla/Naturita area and graduated from high school there. He moved from Cortez to Hotchkiss in 1972, where he has resided since.
On October 26, 1959, Bill married Jacqueline Fobare in Aztec, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on February 21, 1998, in Delta, Colorado.
Mr. Moore was a truck driver. He enjoyed collecting what he called his “artifacts” and watching western movies. He was a member of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge No. 1807. He also served his country in the Marine Corps.
Those grateful to have shared in Bill’s life include five sons: Sam Moore and his wife Cindy of Cortez, Bill Moore and his wife Marcy of Hotchkiss, Rocky Moore and his wife Kelly of Farmington, NM, Mike Widner and his wife Barb of Rangely, and Butch Widner and his wife Kathy of Hotchkiss; two daughters: Susan Kendall and her husband Steve of Hotchkiss, and Cindy Thompson of Grand Junction; one sister, Betty Relitz of Moab, UT. He is further survived by twelve grandchildren: Christopher, Amanda, Rebecca, Melissa, Jennifer, Devon, Sherri, Kassandra, Ashley, Cortney, Kacee, and Derek.
Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wilyn Moore; and a brother, Bob Moore.

Boyd Perry Bennett
January 3, 1922 - May 21, 2003
Cedaredge - Cedaredge resident Boyd Bennett passed away May 21, 2003 at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 81.
A Graveside funeral service is planned for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Cedaredge Cemetery
in Cedaredge, Colorado with James Gall officiating.
Boyd Perry Bennett was born to the late Harold W. and Millie (Perry) Bennett on January 3, 1922 in Hyde Park, Utah. He spent his childhood in Grace, Idaho and attended school in Hyde Park, Utah and Grace, Idaho. Boyd was a resident of Roy, Utah for seven years, Clearfield, Utah for eighteen years, and Cedaredge, Colorado for the last two years.
On August 22, 1963 in Ogden, Utah, Boyd was united in marriage to Ramona Miller. She survives.
Boyd retired as a truck driver, and enjoyed his job. Boyd also enjoyed flowers and yardwork.
Survivors include his wife Ramona Bennett of Cedaredge, CO; two sons, Randy Kay Bennett and Stephen Boyd Bennett both of Cedaredge, CO; two step - sons, Barry Muirheid of Texas and Ronald Muirheid of Cedaredge, CO; two brothers, Norman Bennett of Heyburn, Idaho and Claude Bennett of Roy, Utah; a sister Lillie Wimmer of Renton, WA; and a sister in law Evelyn Bodily of Layton, Utah. Boyd is further survived by two grandchildren, Nickolas Bennett and Andrew Bennett both of Cedaredge, CO.
Boyd is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

George E. Woolfe
February 12, 1910 - May 12, 2003
PAONIA - Longtime Paonia, Colorado resident, George E. Woolfe, died Monday, May 12, 2003 at the Paonia Care and Rehab Center in Paonia. He was 93.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, May 16th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Friday, at the church, with A Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:00 a.m. Father Bill Nelson will officiate. Rite of Commital will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery
in Paonia with Officer’s of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807 and members of the U.M.W.A. #6417 performing graveside rites.
George E. Woolfe was born on February 12, 1910 in Segundo, Colorado to the late Bert and Anna (Hall) Woolfe. He spent his childhood in Aguilar, Colorado and attended school there.
George married Isabel Cornish on November 23, 1932 in Raton, New Mexico. He and Isabel lived in Crested Butte, Colorado for 10 years before moving to Paonia in 1966. Isabel passed away on October 6, 1985 in Paonia.
Mr. Woolfe retired after 55 years of service as a miner for U.S. Steel in Somerset, Colorado. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia, the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807, the U.M.W.A. #6417 and the Slovenian Lodge in Crested Butte, Colorado. Among his many interests he most enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivor’s blessed to have shared in George’s life, include four daughters, Sharlene Maddox of Paonia, CO; Neoma Antisdel and husband Gary of Cedaredge, CO; Georgia Dodge and husband Dewey of Hotchkiss, CO; Shirley Britton and husband Edward of Grand Junction, CO; a brother - in - law, Weldon Wines of Lubbock, TX and two sisters - in - laws, Helen Woolfe of Amarillo,TX and Jo Pearl “Pet” Dial of Hotchkiss, CO.
George is further survived by ten grandchildren, Brenda M. Clem of Ft. Mohave, AZ; Brian E. Britton of Greeley, CO; Brent M. Britton of Grand Jct., CO; David Trujillo of Albuquerque, NM; Eileen Groesbeck of Orem, UT; Tim Antisdel and Monte Antisdel both of Denver, CO; Krista Brown of Henderson, NV; Todd Maddox of Austin, TX; and Roger Maddox of Bellevue, WA. George is also survived by 15 great - grandchildren and one great - great grandchild.
Along with his parents and his wife, George was preceded in death by two brothers: Marion Woolfe and Delbert Woolfe; and four sisters, Vera Matkovich, Nina Hendricks, Clara Valencich, and Norma Wines.

Thomas H. W. Sinkay
March 20, 1922 - May 12, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Thomas Sinkay, a Cedaredge resident, died on Monday, May 12, 2003, at Horizon’s Care Center in Eckert, Colorado. He was 81.
Funeral services for Thomas Sinkay will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2003, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge with Tom Leach, Hospice Chaplin officiating. Interment will be held at the Cedaredge Cemetery
immediately following the services with the VFW Grand Mesa Post #9221 conducting graveside rites. Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Service chapel in Cedaredge, CO.
Thomas H.W. Sinkay was born on March 20, 1922, in Woodstock, Illinois, to Thomas and Sylvia (Schreck) Sinkay. He spent his childhood in Woodstock and graduated from Woodstock Community High School in 1941.
On October 9, 1949, Thomas married Amelia Juarez in San Jose, California. They shared fifty - three years together. She survives. They have resided in Cedaredge for the past seven years.
Thomas worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for thirty years. He was a PFC in the Marines serving in World War II and belonged to the Grand Mesa Post #9221 and the IOOF Lodge both in Cedaredge.
Mr. Sinkay enjoyed going to garage sales, reading, collecting antiques, dancing and fishing. He especially loved to talk with people.
Those grateful to have shared in Thomas’s life include his wife, Amelia of Cedaredge; a son, Michael Sinkay and his wife Mary of Cedaredge, CO; a daughter, Sylvia Sinkay of Flagstaff, AZ; four grandsons: Kalani and Ethan Loper of Flagstaff, AZ, and Logan and Jared Sinkay of Cedaredge, CO.

Viola Fern Schaffroth
October 19, 1914 - May 18, 2003
CEDAREDGE - Viola Fern Schaffroth, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at her residence in Cedaredge, Colorado. She was 88.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 29th at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, California.
Viola Fern Daugherty was born on October 19, 1914 in Hastings, Nebraska to the late Coyle and Berta (Crable) Daugherty. She spent her childhood in Hastings and graduated from high school there.
On March 20, 1934, in Grand Island, Nebraska, Viola married Harold Schaffroth, Sr. The marriage was later dissolved.
Viola was a homemaker. She attended the First Baptist Church in Cedaredge. Among her many interests, she most enjoyed sewing, knitting and shopping. Before moving to Cedaredge three years ago, she lived in Southern California for 60 years.
Survivor’s include her son, Harold Schaffroth and his wife Cathleen of Cedaredge and her daughter, Le’Lonnie Sylvester and husband John of Lake Forest, CA. She is further survived by eight grandchildren and ten great - grandchildren.
Besides, her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Harold Schaffroth, Sr., and two sisters, Marie Cain and Doris Rehder.
