Bernard Fedie - - 1927 - 2004
Bernard Leroy Fedie of Delta died on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at his residence. He was 77.
He was born on April 24, 1927, in Lima, Wis., to Leo and Ida (Karshbaum) Fedie.
Mr. Fedie served in the Air Force during World War II.
He married Lydia Rampa in 1952 in Denver. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Fedie was a member of the Appaloosa Club and the Dexter Cow Association. He was a butcher for many years for Wilson & Company. He enjoyed gardening, masonry, carpenter work, the outdoors and raising horses and cattle. He moved from Denver to Delta nine years ago.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Gary and Kim Fedie of Delta; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Bill Schmidt of Delta, and Sheree and Mike Ashburn of Parker; two brothers, Leonard Fedie of Eckert, and Howard Fedie of Missouri; two sisters, Beatrice Yoemans of Minneapolis, Minn., and Delores Yoemans of Denver; five grandchildren; and one great - grandchild.
Mr. Fedie was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Fedie, and a sister.
A funeral service was held on Nov. 27 at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Cedaredge. Burial followed at Cedaredge Cemetery.

Clair Hicks - - 1939 - 2004
Clair Hicks of Scenic, Ariz., died after a long illness on June 26, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Long Beach, Calif. He was 65.
He was born a twin on Feb. 21, 1939, in Paonia, to George W. and Sophie A. (Koklich) Hicks. He graduated from Paonia High School in 1957.
Mr. Hicks served in the U.S. Navy for four years in Nashville, Tenn., and the Philippines.
He did several different things in his life including ranching, screen acting, riding bulls in rodeos, owning and operating a guest lodge, owning and operating a steak house and working with the Navajos in the Four Corners area. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion.
He spent most of his life in the North Fork area before moving to Mesquite, Nev., three years ago because of his health.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Nola Hicks of Scenic, Ariz.; a son and his wife, Rusty and Julie Hicks of Parachute; two stepsons and their wives, Brett and Tina Coomer of Houston, Texas, and Sean and Robin Coomer of Denver; eight grandchildren, Caylub Hicks, Sean Coomer, David Coomer, Erik Coomer, Marissa Coomer, Kristen Wade, Logan Wade and Dakota Wade; and his twin brother, George "Doc" Hicks and his wife Carol of Mesquite, Nev.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 13, at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery
of Western Colorado in Grand Junction.

Lester Byers - - 1938 - 2004
Lester Dean "Bud" Byers of Olathe died on Sunday, July 4, 2004, at his residence. He was 66.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta, with Bruce Martin and David Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Pea Green Cemetery.
Mr. Byers was born on March 26, 1938, in Delta County, to Harvey Alfred and Edna Alice (Boyd) Byers. He spent his childhood in the Delta, Montrose and Olathe areas. He attended school in Olathe.
He married Bessie L. Howard on March 14, 1959, in Cushing, Okla. They celebrated 45 years of marriage this year. She survives.
Mr. Byers was a water master for the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Association for 30 years. He was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the First Born in Delta. He had lived in Olathe for 35 years. He enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, helping others in need and teasing and joking with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Byers of Olathe; four sons and their wives, Dean and Pam Byers of Morgantown, Ind., Jerry and Janet Byers of Olathe, Larry and Carol Byers of Grand Junction, and Randy and Denise Byers of Moore, Okla.; a daughter and her husband, Tammie and David Nichols of Platteville; his father, Harvey Byers of Delta; four sisters, Betty Ashby, Patty Arnold and her husband Bob, Wanda Gibson and her husband Greg, all of Delta, and Cheryl Retherford and her husband Jody of Olathe; a brother - in - law, Forrest Neely of Cortez; 18 grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles nieces and nephews.
Mr. Byers was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Byers; a sister, Mary Nelly; a brother - in - law, Doyle Ashby; and a grandson, Kolten Byers.

Richard Mote - - 1924 - 2004
Richard Clare Mote died on Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Grand Junction. He was 79.
A memorial service was held on June 29 at the American Legion in Paonia.
Mr. Mote was born on Nov. 20, 1924, in Culver City, Calif., to Morris W. and Isabel (Hooper) Mote.
He served in the Army Artilary Division during the Korean War.
Mr. Mote married JoAnne Elizabeth Simpson. She died after 37 years of marriage on Dec. 31, 1988, in Arvada.
He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, and Jr. Achievement Program which assists young people with their education. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and spending time with his friends and family.
Mr. Mote is survived by two sons, Rick Mote of Arvada, and Steve Mote and his wife Cheryl of Eureka, Mont.; a daughter, Kerry Mote of Paonia; two brothers and their wives, Morris and Mary Alice Mote of San Ramon, Calif., and David and Sue Mote of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Linda of California; five grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnne Mote; a brother, Bob Mote; and a sister, Betty Dean.

Trinidad Ledesma - - 1940 - 2004
Trinidad "Trino" Ledesma of Delta died on Sunday, July 3, 2004, at Montrose Memorial Hospital. He was 63.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, at 2 p.m. at Memory Gardens in Mesa View Cemetery
in Delta, with Pastor Marion Hofman officiating.
Mr. Ledesma was born on Aug. 18, 1940, in Delta, to Joe and Mary (Dominguez) Ledesma. He spent his childhood in Delta. He attended school at St. Michael's and graduated from Delta High School in 1958.
He married Bonnie L. Beach on June 7, 1960, in Twin Falls, Idaho. They celebrated 44 years of marriage this year. She survives.
Mr. Ledesma was self employed in the construction business. He had served on ag and community boards throughout the community. He was a member of Thunder Mountain Flywheelers, Show and Pull Tractor Club and Western Slope Antique Power Club. He enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, tractor pulling and stock car racing.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Ledesma of Delta; two sons, Todd Ledesma and his wife Christina of Delta, and Tony Ledesma of Montrose; two daughters and their husbands, Tina and Steve Moralez of Delta, and Tami Ledesma - Steadham and Eric Steadham of South Carolina; his parents, Joe and Mary Ledesma of Delta; a sister, Irene D. Ledesma of Grand Junction; six grandchildren, Candis Moralez, Steve Moralez, Shelbi Ledesma, and Trevor Ledesma, all of Delta, and Gabrielle Steadham and Vanessa Steadham, both of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ledesma was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ledesma.

Lena Thompson - - 1918 - 2004
Lena Marie Thompson of Delta died on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Crossroads Assisted Living in Delta. She was 86.
Mrs. Thompson was born on April 12, 1918, in Mar Dawn, Texas, to W.R. and Medie (Sexton) Harris. She spent her childhood and attended school in Texas. She moved to California in 1936, and to Delta in the late 1960s.
She married George Thomas "Buster" Thompson on May 11, 1943, in Bell, Calif. He died on April 17, 1990.
Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning. She was known for her flowers and vegetables.
She is survived by two stepgrandsons, Don Simon and Doug McDaniels, both of Green Bay, Wis.; and four nieces, Virginia Dixon of Torrance, Calif., Pat McGrady of Santa Cruz, Calif., Kathleen McGrady of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Susan Ferdig of Las Vegas, Nev.
A graveside service was held on Nov. 2 at Cedaredge Cemetery
with Don Barr officiating.

Elizabeth Keplinger
February 12, 1912 - May 3, 2003
DELTA - Delta resident, Elizabeth Keplinger, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 91.
A graveside funeral service will be held the week of May 5th, at South Lawn Cemetery
in Tucson, Arizona.
Elizabeth Shull was born on February 12, 1912 to the late George Samuel and Sarah (Endsley) Shull in Warren, Indiana. She spent her childhood in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. She graduated in 1932 from Warren High School in Warren, Indiana.
On July 22, 1933 Elizabeth married Thomas Jason Keplinger in Warren, Indiana. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1978 in Tucson, AZ.
Elizabeth was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Delta, Colorado. She enjoyed ceramic work, sewing and herb gardening.
Survivors include her two sons, Jerry Keplinger and his wife Janice of Delta, CO and George Keplinger and wife Barbara of Markle, Indiana; two daughters, Darlene Inman and husband Cratis of Tucson, AZ and Alyene Metzger and husband Max of Huntington, Indiana. Elizabeth is further survived by fourteen grandchildren, thirty six great - grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother, Alva Shull.
