Leo Otto Schoser
An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Durango’s La Plata Senior Center in celebration of Leo Otto Schoser who died Sunday, March 11, from a heart attack. He was 87.
Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory.
Mr. Schoser was born March 31, 1913 in Griffith, Colo. He lived the rest of his life in Durango. He married Ruby Holt on May 17, 1940 in Durango. Mr. Schoser was co-owner of the Durango Lumber Yard and also owned Leo’s woodworking shop in Durango.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of Durango; a daughter, Jean Corbin of Durango; three grandchildren, Patti Newton of Boulder, Brett Newton of Littleton and Eldon Newton of Lakewood; two brothers, Frank and Barney Schoser of Durango; a sister, Mary Schumacker of Durango; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rena Faye Fields
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Florida Mesa Church of Christ for Rena Faye Fields, a homemaker, who died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Durango following a brief illness. She was 89.
Burial will follow the service at Crestview Cemetery.
Mrs. Fields was born March 6, 1912, in Loco, Okla. She married James Jesse Fields on June 29, 1932, in Oklahoma. She and her husband moved to Durango in 1967. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and cooking. Mrs. Fields also enjoyed time with her family and devoted her later years to the care of her husband following a stroke he suffered in 1968, and until his death in January of 1997. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by two daughters, Owalah Bates of Clarksville, Ariz., and Glenda Siemens of Durango; a son, Lyle Fields of Irving, Texas; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Rosina M. Gazia Cuticchia Catalioti
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hood Mortuary for Rosina M. Gazia Cuticchia Catalioti, an active participant in the local community, who died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Cortez. She was 102.
The Rev. Mike McCleary will officiate at services.
Mrs. Catalioti was born Oct. 16, 1898 in Naso, Sicily, Italy. She and her mother arrived in America on Jan. 19, 1903. Her father, who preceded them to America, met his wife and daughter at Ellis Island, New York. They made their home in Atlantic City, N.J. When Rosina was 19, she married Thomas Cuticchia. They had two children, Daniel and Marie.
Mrs. Catalioti married her second husband, Joseph Catalioti, in 1934. The family moved from Atlantic City, N.J., to San Diego, Calif., in 1946. In California, she and her husband were barbers in their own shop. Mrs. Catalioti moved to Durango after her husband’s death in 1972, in order to be close to her daughter. She then built a home next to her daughter and son-in-law in the Animas Valley.
After the deaths of her son-in-law and daughter in 1991, Mrs. Catalioti moved back to Atlantic City to be near her two living sisters. Four years later she decided to return to Durango to live with her granddaughter Ionne Robinson.
Mrs. Catalioti lived a long and productive life. She enjoyed many hobbies including belly dancing, sewing, crocheting and sculpturing with clay. She also enjoyed volunteer work for Mercy Medical Center, the Durango-La Plata Senior Center and American Legion. She entered and won numerous competitions at local arts and craft fairs.
She is survived by her sister, Adella Gazia Fermane; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Veneice Donna Clark
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pine River Cemetery
for Veneice Donna Clark, a graduate of Ignacio High School, who died Friday, March 9, 2001, at The Valley Inn in Mancos. She was 80.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
The Rev. Myron Darmour will officiate at services.
Mrs. Clark was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Provo, Utah. Her family, the Carters, moved to Ignacio when she was 7 years old. She married Curtis Carl Clark on Aug. 15, 1940, at Aztec. She enjoyed the outdoors, horses, and time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by six sons, Carl Clark of Romeo, Colo., Gary Clark of Durango, Robert Clark of Ignacio, Charles Clark of Aztec, Kenneth Clark of Durango, and Rick Clark of Durango; four daughters, Margaret Cross of Ft. Smith, Ariz., Donna Faris of Denver, Kathy Maynard of Albuquerque, and Patsy Hatch of Phoenix; a sister, Ruth Coy of Denver; a brother, Herold Carter of Orem, Utah; and three generations of grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 3, 1989.
Jackie V. Gallero
A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church for Jackie V. Gallero, an Ignacio resident for most of her life, who died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango. She was 66.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
The Rev. Eddy Andary of St. Ignatius Catholic Church will officiate at services. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory.
Ms. Gallero was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Ignacio. She enjoyed gardening, birds, quilting and working with horses.
She is survived by her longtime companion Joseph Kolz; three daughters, Margaret and Cecelia Gallero and Katrina Richards of Ignacio; two sons, Tony Gallero of Bayfield and Bryant Valencia of Bayfield; three sisters, Isabel Valdez and Virginia Cox of Ignacio and Lillian Valencia of Bloomfield; a brother, Albert Sanchez of California; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Collina, and a son, Chuck Gallero.

David Allen Meredyth
David Allen Meredyth, a former Marine, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Durango from natural causes. He was 71.
Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.
Mr. Meredyth was born March 28, 1929, in San Francisco. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Mr. Meredyth worked for New York Life Insurance in Hemet, Calif., for almost 45 years He lived in Durango for almost two years.
He enjoyed playing jazz piano, photography, camping, fishing, and has owned and driven race cars.
He is survived by two daughters, Teri Meredyth of Harbor City, Calif., and Tabitha Meredyth of Hemet, Calif.; two sons, Marc Meredyth of Burlington, Vt., and Shannon Allen Meredyth of Hemet, Calif.; a former wife, Loel Meredyth of Hemet, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
No services are planned in Durango.

Walter L. Reeder
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hermosa Cemetery
for Walter L. Reeder, a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, who died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Denver. He was 74.
Mike Darmour will officiate at services.
Mr. Reeder was born Feb. l4, 1927, in Crawford, Colo. He graduated from Durango High School and married Leonore Locke Reeder in Durango on Nov. 29, 1947.
Mr. Reeder retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. He worked for Coors Brewing Company for 17 years. Mr. Reeder enjoyed collecting coins.
He is survived by his wife, Leonore, of Denver; a son, Leroy Reeder of Patterson, N.Y.; three brothers, Noel Reeder of Durango, Gene Reeder of Dove Creek, Colo., and Robert Reeder of Kremmling, Colo.; and two sisters, Betty Kirk of Aurora, Colo., and Dorothy Morris of Durango.
Ronald Eugene Wilkinson
A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Columba Catholic Church for Ronald Eugene Wilkinson, a Master Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corp, who died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in Torrance, Calif. He was 58.
Father Mike McCleary will officiate at services. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery
in Durango.
Mr. Wilkinson was born Sept. 27, 1942, in Montrose, Colo. He was raised in the Durango area and graduated from Durango High School.
Mr. Wilkinson joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1960 and retired as a Master Sgt. in 1983. While in the service, he was stationed in many different locations around the world. After he retired, he worked for companies involved with moving military families around the world.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ronnie Ann Wilkinson.
He is survived by his mother, Ada Ann Wilkinson, of Durango; two sons, Wesley Wilkinson of Las Vegas, and Mike Wilkinson of Torrance, Calif.; a daughter, Kimberly Baumgart of Santa Maria, Calif.; a sister, Patricia Coker of Grand Junction, Colo.; and three grandsons.
Elizabeth Anne 'Anne' Ewing
Services will be held in California for Elizabeth Anne "Anne" Ewing, who died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at her home in Alameda, Calif., from a lingering illness. She was 83.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenmount Cemetery.
Miss Ewing was born July 5, 1917, in Hurley, N.M., and was raised in Durango. She was the daughter of William Dudley and Helen (Pruitt) Ewing. Her father was a prominent citizen, historian and businessman of Durango. Her family owned and operated the Federal Lumber Co., and donated the land where Fort Lewis College is located.
Miss Ewing was born with cerebral palsy. She never attended public school but was home-tutored.
Her father tried several times unsuccessfully to establish a school for the disabled in Durango.
When the United Cerebral Palsy Center was established in Denver in 1953, the Ewing family moved there for her to attend the school. She received therapy and basic education.
She is survived by her longtime friend and caregiver, Helen Prince of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and cousins, Libby Ewing McWilliams of Denver, and Martha Pollock of San Diego, Calif.
