James Brockelman

James Bradley Brockelman of Olathe died on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at his home. He was 50.

Mr. Brockelman is survived by his mother, Bonnie Dickerson of Olathe and six brothers and sisters.

Crippin Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

James Turner - - 1925 - 2004

James G. Turner a longtime resident of Delta and Cory, died on Friday, July 23, 2004, at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Redlands, Calif. He was 79.

A funeral service was held on July 29 at Redlands Church of Christ in Redlands, Calif. Burial followed at Hillside Memorial Park in Redlands, Calif.

Mr. Turner was born on April 20, 1925, in Coolidge, Texas. He spent his childhood in the Corsicana, Texas, area during the Great Depression. He served as a paratrooper in the 517th Combat Division of the Army Infantry. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

He married Frances Perry. She survives.

Mr. Turner moved to California in 1962 and later to the Delta area.He was a member of Delta Church of Christ. He and his wife enjoyed RVing, foreign travel, oceanic adventures and spending time with their children and grandchildren.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, Frances Turner; five daughters, Janice Stanton of Alta Loma, Calif., Nancy Hamner of Waxahachie, Texas, Susan Salierno of Corona, Calif., Cynthia Turner of Dallas, Texas, and Terri Cotharn of Cory; a son, John Turner of Colton, Calif.; two sisters, Mina Williams of Corsicana, Texas, and Bobbie Clark of Arlington, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Natalie Kopperud, Judith Stanton, Cade Hamner, Rod Gray, J.T. Stanton, Michael Hamner, Boyce Stovall, Tyler Hamner, James Cotharn, Caleb Turner, Emily Cotharn and Austin Turner; and two great - grandsons, Cole Kopperud and Wyatt Stanton.

He was preceded in death by a son, James "Mike" Turner.

Pluma Allen - - 1927 - 2004

Pluma F. Allen of Delta died on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at her home. She was 95.

Mrs. Allen was born on March 6, 1909, in Woodward, Okla., to James Edwin and Margaret Hannah (Goldsmith) Trowbridge.

She married William Virgil Allen on June 14, 1927, in Delta. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Allen moved from Oklahoma to Delta when she was seven. She graduated from Delta High School in 1926.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Delta and AARP. She was a former member of Katherine Rebekah Lodge of Delta. She was one of the organizers of the Columbus Senior Center in Delta. She enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, making quilts and crocheting afghans.

Mrs. Allen is survived by two daughters, June Ayers of Delta, and Anne Porter of Vancouver, Wash.; two sons, Bill Allen of Montrose, and David Allen of Sabin, N.D.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great - grandchildren; and five great - great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Allen; three brothers; and two sisters.

A funeral service was held on Aug. 9 at the First Baptist Church of Delta. Burial followed at Mesa View Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.

Mesa View Mortuary - Cemetery handled the arrangements.

Chester Craig - - 1922 - 2004

Chester A. Craig Sr. of Cedaredge died on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 82.

A visitation was held on Aug. 15 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Cedaredge. No services are planned.

He was born on March 24, 1922, in McAllister, Okla., to Chester and Matilda (Birdsong) Craig. He spent his childhood and attended school in Vivian, La. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Craig married Kathryn Burgess on March 29, 1941, in Marshall, Texas. She survives. They lived in Long View, Jefferson and Corpus Christie, Texas, and many other areas. They moved to Cedaredge in 1991.

Mr. Craig was a salesman for PGAS, an oil exploration company. He enjoyed chopping wood, going to the mountains and visiting with people. He attended Happy Hollow Church of Christ in Cedaredge.

Mr. Craig is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn Craig of Cedaredge; a son and his wife, Allen and Bridget Craig of Grand Junction; three grandchildren, Sheri Worthington and her husband Ray of Montrose, Cathy Anderson and her husband Alan of Lamar, and Jackie LaDou and her husband James of Grand Junction.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory handled the arrangements.

Eleanor Wedell - - 1926 - 2004

Eleanor "Ellie" Claire Wedell of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Paonia, died of pneumonia Saturday, July 3, 2004, in Los Angeles. She was 77.

She was born on Oct. 20, 1926, in Paonia, to Alma and Richard V. Ewing. She spent her childhood in Paonia, graduating from Paonia High School in 1944. She attended Barnes Business School in Denver.

Mrs. Wedell moved back to Paonia and worked for Western Colorado Power Company and Union Fruit Company. In 1951 she moved to Casper, Wyo., where she worked for Mountain States Power Company.

She married Martin Hale in Casper, Wyo. She married Walt Wedell in 1960 in Paonia. The marriage ended in divorce.

Mrs. Wedell moved to Grand Junction in the 1970s, where she worked for St. Mary's Hospital. She lived in Mountain View, Calif., from 1980 to 1990. She moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1990 and worked at the VA Hospital until retiring in 1998. She moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in November 2003, to be near her granddaughter.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy VanHouten of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marcy Hale of Mountain View, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Burgus of Broomfield, and Mary Frances Wilson and her husband Henry of Casper, Wyo.; a granddaughter and her husband, Stephanie and Shad Groverland of Los Angeles, Calif.; a grandson, Clay Ritter of Phoenix, Ariz.; a great - granddaughter, Ahna Groverland of Los Angeles, Calif.; two cousins, Betty Jo LeMay of Smith River, Calif., and Glen Harold Ewing of Grand Junction; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Her remains were scattered in Paonia on July 4.

Gerald Dalla - - 1932 - 2004

Gerald A. Dalla of Grand Junction died of cancer on Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at his residence. He was 71.

A Catholic funeral mass was held on Aug. 12 at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Grand Junction, with Father Plough officiating. Burial followed at Delta City Cemetery.

Mr. Dalla was born on Nov. 4, 1932, in Silverton, to Renaldo and Kathryn (Kramer) Dalla. He spent his childhood in Silverton and Delta. He attended Delta High School. He served in the National Guard.

He married Shirley on June 1, 1953, in Delta. She survives.

Mr. Dalla was a construction line foreman for Mountain Bell. He lived in Grand Junction for 42 years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, woodworking and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was a past exalted ruler of Delta Elks Lodge and president of Orchard Mesa Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Dalla of Grand Junction; two sons and their wives, Tom and Diana Dalla, and Dan and Coleen Dalla, all of Grand Junction; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Gary Bailey of Grand Junction; a brother, Ron Dalla of Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Judy Taketa of Vacaville, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great - grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Grand Junction.

Eugene Busse - - 1922 - 2004

C. Eugene "Gene" Busse of Los Alamos, N.M., died after a short illness on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Los Alamos Medical Center. He was 81.

Ruth Johnson - - 1928 - 2004

Ruth Jeanne Johnson of Paonia died on Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand Junction. She was 76.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m. at Paonia Seventh - day Adventist Church with Pastor Don Anderson officiating. Services will conclude at the church.

Mrs. Johnson was born on June 23, 1928, in Makoti, Ward County, N.D., to George and Hannah (Gruzensky) Dovich. She spent her childhood in Makoti and Douglas, N.D., and graduated from Sheyenne River High School in Harvey, N.D. She attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb., and Minot Teachers College, earning her teaching certificate. In 1950 she graduated from Pacific Union College in California with a degree in music and education.

She married Robert Johnson on June 15, 1952, in Minot, N.D. He survives. They lived in Boulder, Hinsdale, Ill., and Madison, Tenn. They moved to Paonia from Mexican Hat, Utah, in 1994.

Mrs. Johnson was an elementary school teacher. She retired in 1994 after 26 years of teaching in private and public schools. She was a member of Paonia Seventh - day Adventist Church and quilters clubs in Paonia and Hotchkiss. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and traveling.

She is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Robert Johnson of Paonia; four sons and their wives, Delmer and Karis Johnson of Westminster, Malcolm "Dean" and Connie Marie Johnson of Longmont, Lyndon and Pam Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jay Robert and Irena Johnson of Hopewell, N.J.; and four grandchildren, Kayla, Grant, Katrina and Collin.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by five brothers.

William K. Bowie died on March 31, 2004. He was 77.

Robert Knight - - 1920 - 2004

Robert Glynn Knight of Olathe died on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at San Juan Living Center in Montrose. He was 83.

Dorothy Horton - - 1915 - 2004

Dorothy Mae Jackson Horton of Delta died on Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. She was 89.

George Harbick - - 1922 - 2004

George L. Harbick of Paonia died on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 81.

Regina Gilmer - - 1916 - 2004

Regina Mary Gilmer of Portland, Ore., died on Aug. 6, 2004, at her home. She was 88.

Glenn Blecha - - 1913 - 2004

Glenn Joseph Blecha of Delta died on Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Willow Tree of Delta. He was 91.

Hazel Marie Miller of Cedaredge died on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at her home.

Jean Wicks - - 1918 - 2004

Jean Smith Wicks of Eckert died on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 86.

Eugenia 'Gene' Skidmore - - 1931 - 2004

Eugenia "Gene" Marie Skidmore of Crawford died on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 73.
