Cynthia Ann Merryweather

Services for Cynthia Ann Merryweather, a resident of Dolores, are pending with the Ertel Funeral Home.

Cynthia was born Sept. 28, 1944 in Kansas City, Mo. to Hobart Gillespie and Barbara Ann (Walker) Gillespie. She passed away at her home in Dolores on Sunday, November 19, 2000. She was 56 years old.

Surviving Cynthia is her daughter, Sarah Jane Robinson of Los Angeles, Calif.; her mother, Barbara Weinstein; her stepfather, Joseph Weinstein; a brother, Bruce Gillespie; and sisters, Claudia Flintermann, and Juli Robinson.

Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, John Merryweather in May, 1999; and her father.

Dorothy Harpstripe

Dorothy Irene Harpstripe, a resident of Cortez, was born on May 2, 1921 to Anton and Ella Harpstripe in New Baden, Ill. She passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, 2000 at her home in Cortez. She was 79 years old.

Dorothy is survived by a brother, Tony Harpstripe of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a sister, Bernice Blessinger of Bullhead City, Ariz. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband, Charles Frazier.

At this time, there are no services scheduled. Arrangements are being handled through the Ertel Funeral Home.

Stanley Kuykendall

Funeral services for Stanley Melvin Kuykendall, 68, of Blanding, Utah, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Dove Creek Cemetery.

Stan was born Aug. 18, 1932, in Safford, Ariz., the son of Rex Floyd Kuykendall and Velma (Kelly) Kuykendall. He passed away at Mercy Medical Center on Friday, Nov. 17, 2000.

Stan was an avid rock hound, enjoying cutting and polishing the rock he found. He also practiced silversmithing. Stan drove the senior citizen bus in Blanding up until hes death.

Stan is survived by his loving children, Morgan Kuykendall of Blanding, Utah, Melvin Kuykendall of Albuquerque, N.M., Loise Austin of New Castle, Colo., Pat Chiles of Rifle, Colo., and Revel Wrenshall of Lakewood, Colo. 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild survives Stan; as does a brother, Johnny Kuykendall of Richfield, Utah; three sisters, Flossie Dicken of Dove Creek, Opal Redshaw of New River, Ariz., and Esther Summers of Dove Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Barbara and Bertha preceded Stan in death.

Services will be under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.

Jared Tyler Mollenkopf

Funeral services for Jared Tyler Mollenkopf, infant son of Scott and Audrey Mollenkopf, are pending with the Ertel Funeral Home.

Jared was born Oct. 14, 2000 and passed away on Nov. 15, 2000. He is survived by his parents, Scott and Audrey of Hill Air Force Base, Utah; grandparents, Bill and Judy Mollenkopf of Cortez, Mike and Wendy Stoner of Tucson, Ariz., and Lee and Verna Davis of Farmington, N.M.; great-grandparents, Edward and Phyllis Davis of Farmington, Bill and Shirlee Mollenkopf of Albuquerque, N.M., Ruth Cramer of Cortez, and Leo Reynolds, also of Albuquerque. Jared is also survived by a great-great grandmother, Lorene Risenhoover of Cortez; and numerous extended family.

Gerald L. Booth

Gerald L. Booth, a longtime resident of Cortez, passed away Nov. 15, 2000 at Southwest Memorial Hospital. He was 66.

Mr. Booth is survived by his wife, Loretta of Cortez. As per his wishes, no services are being planned.

Cortez Four Corners Funeral Chapel, Hale and Gerken Funeral Directors are serving the family.

Donald Ray Knuckles

Funeral services for Donald Roy Knuckles, a resident of Durango and formerly of Cortez, will be held Saturday, Nov.18, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 10 a.m.

Donald was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Northdale, Colo., the son of Jewel Knuckles and Mae (McNeely) Knuckles. He passed away in Durango on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at the age of 66.

One son, Donnie, and four daughters, Connie, Bonnie, Vonnie, and Angela survive Donald; as do two brothers, Dennis Knuckles of Cortez, and Paul Knuckles of Craig, Colo.; one sister, Lorene Lennon of Tucson, Ariz.; and two step sisters, Betty Simonton of Grand Junction, Colo., and Norma Ludwigs of Durango.

Services will be under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.

Leo Ellsworth Staley

Funeral services for Leo Ellsworth Staley are scheduled for Friday, Nov.17, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Kent Slyter of the Arriola Bible Church will be officiating. Interment graveside services will be held on Saturday, Nov.18, at the Fowler Cemetery in Fowler, Colo., at 10 a.m.

Leo was born to Carl Christian Staley and Maria (Ellsworth) Staley on Aug. 11, 1912, in Parsons, Kan. He passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000 in a traffic accident near Hesperus. He was 88.

Leo worked as a civil engineer before retiring. He very much enjoyed traveling, and was an avid reader. Many knew him to be a willing helper and "handyman." He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

He was married to Mary Huntley who preceded him in death in 1990. He is survived by two sisters, Phyllis Shown of Monte Vista, and Gladys Staley of Caņon City. Also surviving is a nephew, James Nucci, Jr. of Seattle, Wash., and brother-in-law, James Nucci, Sr. of Seattle, Wash.

Memorial contributions can be made in Leo Ellsworth Staley's name with the Vectra Bank.

Walter Clyde West

Funeral services for Walter Clyde West, a longtime Cortez resident, are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. the Rev. Lynn Evans of the Cortez First United Methodist Church will be officiating. Interment services will follow at the Cortez Cemetery with Masonic services being conducted by Cortez Lodge No. 133 A.F. & A.M.

Walt was born on Sept. 28, 1910, to Lee and Quillie (Doughty) West in Winters, Texas. He passed away on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at the Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez at the age of 90.

Walt was an active member of the community and served as a real-estate broker in the Cortez area for many years. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Stella; and his sister, Lucille Roytek of Bakersfield, Calif. Also surviving are four granddaughters and one grandson. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his son, Dale W. West; and all of his brothers and four of his sisters.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.

Homa Louise Cline

Graveside interment services for Homa Louise Cline, a lifelong resident of Cortez, will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Summit Ridge Cemetery beginning at 2 p.m. Dr. A. David Donnelly of the First Baptist Church will be officiating.

Homa Louise came into this world on June 1, 1911, in Arriola. She was born to Harry and Callie (Johnson) Morgan. She left this world on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 89.

Homa Louise was a faithful homemaker, and mother of two sons. She loved to play bridge and was a Dolores Order of the Eastern Star past matron.

She is survived by her children, James Cline and his wife, Ina Mae of Dolores, and Fred Cline and his wife, Virginia of Phoenix, Ariz. Her surviving grandchildren are: Lyle Cline, Kay Lanell Goode and her husband, Billy of Cortez, Dan Cline of Dolores, and Dennis Cline and his wife Carlene of Dolores. Also surviving her are 11 great- grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her loving husband, Fred A. Cline who passed away in 1979.

Memorial contributions can be made in Homa Louise Cline's name to the local American Cancer Society. Services are under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
Belva Lucile Sylling

Memorial services will be held at a later date for Cortez resident Belva Lucile Sylling. Mrs. Sylling passed away Nov. 9, 2000, at Southwest Memorial Hospital. She was 85.

She was born to Jay and Belva Hall on July 5, 1915, in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was married to Tillman Sylling, who passed away in 1987. Mrs. Sylling enjoyed knitting and needlework, and family get-togethers where she could visit.

Belva Sylling is survived by sons Art (Vickie) Sylling of Cortez; Jay (Karen) Sylling of Early, Iowa; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned through Four Corners Funeral Chapel Hale and Gerken Funeral Directors.

Ella S. Seedig

Funeral services for Ella S. Seedig, a resident of Valley Inn Nursing Home, will be held on Monday, Nov. 13, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel in Cortez. Elder Conway Wood will officiate.

Ella was born on Jan. 15, 1905, in Grayson County, Texas to Waldamar and Lee Seedig. She passed away on Nov. 10, 2000 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 95.

Ella is survived by her son, Walter Seedig of Topeka, Kans., grandsons Rusty Seedig and wife Janice of Littleton, Colo., and Rex Seedig of Albuquerque, N.M., and two great-grandsons, Joshua and Jason Seedig of Littleton.

Ella was preceded in death by her four sisters, Lola, Esther, Irene and Ruby, and four brothers, Leon, Henry, Oscar and Alton.

John Sodic

Memorial Services for John Sodic, a resident to Dove Creek, are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Rev. Bud Rousset will officiate.

John was born on October 17, 1919, in Leadville, Colo., to Anton Sodic and Stella Dorrington Sodic. He passed away on Nov. 9, 2000 at his home in Dove Creek at the age of 81.

John was married to Nell Williams in Leadville on Aug. 29, 1947, and they were married for over 53 years. John was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy where he drove crash ambulances at the airport test sites. John was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved his horses and dogs.

John is survived by his wife, Nell of the family home; daughter Nita Purkat and her husband Joe of Dove Creek; son Clifford Sodic and his wife Lupe of Brighton, Colo., and son Bert Sodic and his wife Grace of Leadville, Colo. He is also survived by an aunt, Gladys Gird of Grand Junction, and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren,

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, one infant son, and two brothers.

Cyril Wayne Hoyt

Memorial services for Cyril Wayne Hoyt, a resident of Mancos for 43 years, will be held on Monday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. at the Summit Community Church, on Highway 184 across from Summit Lake.

Cyril died peacefully at his home on Nov. 9, 2000, at the age of 87. He was born on Aug. 27, 1913 in Elmwood, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosselle; daughters Donna Cash and husband Steve of Hurricane, Utah; Joan Wheeler and husband Dennis of Bloomfield, N.M.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends.

Cyril and Rosselle were married July 29, 1943 in Ellsworth, Wis. For 43 years, they have been residents of Mancos. Cyril loved the outdoors and fishing and hunting. His jobs were even related to outdoors, driving a logging truck. But his greatest joys were being with his family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in Cyril Hoyt's name at the Mancos Valley Bank.

Services are under the direction of Ertel Funeral Home.
