Charles E. Wenman
Charles E. Wenman, 72, Buena Vista, died in Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs Dec. 9, 2003.
He was born May 29, 1931, in Gunnison to Alice G. and Marion G. Wenman.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie “Beth” Wenman, Buena Vista; son, Dale Wenman, Buena Vista; daughter, Patricia Casey, Buena Vista; son, Michael L. Wenman, Spring Valley, Calif.; daughter, Margaret “Lorrie” Ingersoll, Glendale, Ariz.; grandsons, Douglas, Christopher and Thomas; granddaughters, Kaylen, Kristin, Dannielle, Jamie and Michelle; brother, David Wenman, Meridian, Idaho; nephews, Richard Wenman, Sacramento, Calif. and Kenneth Wenman, McCall, Idaho; son-in-law, Timothy Casey, Buena Vista and daughter-in-law, Sandy Wenman, Spring Valley, Calif.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. today at Runyan Mortuary, Buena Vista and interment will be in Twin Lakes Cemetery.

Clara DeBlock Woolmington
Clara DeBlock Woolmington died Dec. 5, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
She was born in Midland Park, N.J. Dec. 16, 1920.
Her father was in the plumbing and heating business until the family moved to Goshen, N.Y. in 1931, where he began a lifetime in dairy farming.
She graduated from Chester High School near Goshen in 1937 and attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., where she met her husband, Parker Woolmington.
Clara and Parker were married on May 30, 1941, in Wheaton, just days after her graduation.
They lived briefly in Narberth, Pa., where their daughter, Sue, was born. With World War II influencing everyone, Parker joined the Army and they moved to Shepherd Field, Texas, where their daughter, Betsy, was born.
After the war, the couple settled in Narberth, where Parker was in the catering business.
They became involved in Christian camping and spent a portion of their summers at Camp Winnepasaukie in New Hampshire.
In 1951 their son, John, was born and the family moved to Nathrop, where they had a position with Young Life at Frontier Ranch.
They moved in 1953 to nearby Silver Cliff Ranch and in the fall of 1954, began their dream – Deer Valley Ranch – with the idea of building a Christian family guest ranch.
Their son, Bob, was born in 1956 and the family was instrumental in developing Deer Valley through the next 25 years.
The couple became involved in the local community, particularly through First Baptist Church of Buena Vista. Clara was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a deaconess.
She was known as someone who would encourage, support and offer a kind thought and word for all around her. She attended all the games as her children and grandchildren played for their various school teams.
At Deer Valley she did all the cooking in the early years and most of the office work, bookkeeping and everything else necessary to raise a family and run a ranch.
Following retirement in 1978, they continued to live at Deer Valley while spending most of the winter in South Padre Island, Texas.
Mrs. Woolmington is survived by her husband, Parker Woolmington; children, Sue DeWalt (Harold), Nathrop; Betsy Thompson, Denver; John Woolmington (Carol), Nathrop and Bob Woolmington (Sharon), Buena Vista; grandchildren, Scott DeWalt (Athena), Peyton; James Thompson (Michele), Denver; Brock DeWalt (Brenda), Nathrop; Matt Thompson (Jennifer), Denver; Reid DeWalt (Brenda), Colorado Springs; Rebecca Woolmington, Dallas, Texas; Jessica Woolmington, Buena Vista; Lindsey Woolmington, Nathrop; Jonathan Woolmington, Nathrop and Taylor Woolmington, Buena Vista; great-grandchildren, Levi and Halley DeWalt, Nathrop; Jayce DeWalt, Peyton; Parker Thompson, Denver and Rachel DeWalt, Colorado Springs; brother, Sid DeBlock (Phoebe), Blairstown, N.J. and sister, Anna of Jacksonville, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Buena Vista.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given in Clara’s name to a charitable giving fund that was established at the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. These can be sent to Deer Valley Ranch, Nathrop, CO 81236.
William Henry (Bill) Caines
William Henry (Bill) Caines, 74, of Lake Jackson, Texas, died Dec. 8, 2003, at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Mr. Caines is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris; son, Rick Caines and wife Terri; daughter, Susan Martin and husband Dick; brothers, Edward Caines and Johnny Caines; sisters, Dixie Sarver and husband Buddy; Grace Thorpe and Nancy Berger and husband Ron and four grandchildren, Staci Martin, William Caines, Jody Caines and Bobby Caines.
Mr. Caines was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Olyphant, Penn., to John and Margaret Caines. After high school graduation he enlisted in the Army and served two years before entering Virginia Tech University where he earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering.
During his master’s degree work he married Doris.
Upon graduation, Mr. Caines was hired by Dow Chemical, where he worked for 32 years in the chlor-alkali department. He served in many roles, but is most remembered for his work as tech center leader where he helped drive many technological improvements in the area of chlorine/caustic production.
Mr. Caines retired in 1986 and moved to the Colorado mountains near Salida, built a log cabin and lived his dream for seven years before returning to the Lake Jackson area to be near family.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Salida and Lake Jackson, Texas. Bill loved his family and was very proud of his grandchildren.
The Caines family sends sincere appreciation to Jan Wiseman,, who was his personal nurse for the last 10 months of his life. Her skills helped make Bill’s last months special.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson, with burial in Restwood Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday at the Lakewood Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Ken Evans, Ollie Hux, Bill Rouse, John Lastovica, Buddy Sarver and Jerry Boyett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Howard Brock, John Myers, Lionell Fourrier, Stan Ross and Matt Williams.
Dorothy M. Oxford
Dorothy M. Oxford, 89, Salida, died Dec. 9, 2003, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
She was born July 1, 1914, to Archie L. and Bertha Freda (Hoffman) Hambidge, in Gosper County, Arapahoe, Neb.
Mrs. Oxford graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1931 and attended two years at Kearney State Teachers’ College, Kearney, Neb. She taught in country schools for four or five years.
Mrs. Oxford later worked for Gates Rubber Co. in Denver before moving to Monte Vista in the San Luis Valley where she was employed by a Chevrolet dealer.
She met Delbert G. Oxford in Arapahoe, Neb., where he and his parents were operating a grocery store, Oxford’s Market.
They married in Denver on Nov. 11, 1939. Craig was their first home – then Lyons, where they and Del’s parents operated another Oxford’s Market.
A girl, Janet Lee, was born on Aug. 6, 1940, but lived only an hour.
They returned to Beaver City, Neb., in the fall of 1940 where they owned and operated Horton’s Amusement Park, but during World War II they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where Del worked at Lockheed Aircraft.
In 1946 they located in Alma, where they bought their last Oxford’s Market. Five years later they sold it and went into ranching and real estate.
Eventually, they sold their land and in 1980, bought a retirement home in Salida. They were married 61 years in 2000.
Preceding her in death were her daughter, Janet Lee and husband, Del.
Surviving are brother, Donald (Carol Cross) Hambidge, Arapahoe, Neb.; sister, Dolores (Hambidge) Dodson and husband, Allan, Nathrop and several nephews, nieces and friends.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Services will be at noon Saturday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Ark-Valley Humane Society through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.

Addie King
Addie King, 78, Buena Vista, died in her home Dec. 8, 2003.
She was born March 11, 1925, in Hiawassee, Ga., to Frank and Violet Denton. Mrs. King was 6 years old when she moved to Greeley where she attended school.
At the age of 19 she moved to Denver and worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 15 years.
She married Wallace N. King Dec. 5, 1954, in Denver and they had two girls, Nancy and Carrie. Mrs. King was a homemaker most of her life.
Mrs. King is survived by her husband, Wallace, of Buena Vista; daughters Nancy (John) Cable, Rolla, Mo.; Carrie (Martin) McDowel, Florence; and sister Bertha Bannock, Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Vesta Nnihizer and brother Robert Denton.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Buena Vista. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Angel of Shavano Hospice. Arrangements are by Runyan Mortuary.
Lois W. Hoffman
Lois W. Hoffman, 82, died Dec. 19, 2003, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida.
She was born to Walter and Beulah (Surber) Gifford in Belden, Neb., April 10, 1921. She was the eldest of three children.
Mrs. Hoffman went to school in Belden, graduating in 1939. She attended Wayne State Teachers College in 1940 and taught in Belden Country Schools for several years.
She moved to Burlington, where she met her husband, Leo J. Hoffman. They were married April 20, 1948 in Burlington.
When Mr. Hoffman returned from Korea, they moved to Englewood, where they lived until 1985 when they moved to Salida.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leo.
Mrs. Hoffman is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Welch, Salida; sons, Thomas Hoffman, Northglenn; Richard (Holly) Hoffman, Parker and Michael (Sharron) Hoffman, Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Megan Welch, Aaron and Brice Hoffman, Frank and Marissa Hoffman and Preston and Clinton Hoffman; brothers, Robert and Harry Gifford, Washington and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Ken Przybla of Pax Christie Catholic Church at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary on Dec. 23.
Pallbearers were Thomas Hoffman, Richard Hoffman, Michael Hoffman, Aaron Hoffman, Brice Hoffman and Michael Welch.
She was laid to rest beside her husband in Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery, Littleton.
Ben Warren Urban
Ben Warren Urban, 70, Wildwood, Texas, died Dec. 24, 2003, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Wildwood/Village Mills United Methodist Church, under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary, 700 W. Saratoga Hwy., Kountze, Texas 77625.
A native of Houston, he lived in the area for 30 years and was a retired game warden.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Urban, Wildwood; son, Lawrence Urban, Grand Rapids, Mich.; daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Urban and her husband, Jim, Blanco, Texas and Anna Lynn Urban and her husband, Warrick, Tonga, South Pacific; sister, Sandra “Sandy” Robertson and her husband, Karroll, College Station, Texas and grandchildren, Brendon Feagans and Ryan Feagans.

Asa Edwin Davis
Asa Edwin Davis died of pulmonary fibrosis at home on Whitney Lake near Laguna Park, Texas, Nov. 27, 2003.
He was born Dec. 3, 1929, to Irving Elbert and Mattie Cumile Patterson Davis in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Davis was a veteran of the Army Air Force, the Air Force and the Marine Corps Reserves and served in Korea from 1952-53.
He attended Southern Methodist University and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. He finished his bachelor of science in mathematics and geology at Baylor University in August 1959.
Mr. Davis did preliminary work on Amistad Dam with the International Boundary Commission, preliminary and supervisory work on the Missouri Water Projects, on the Auburn Dam and California Water Projects while with the Army Corps of Engineers and he worked on the Frying Pan Arkansas Project from 1967-78.
He spent the rest of his career as an engineering geologist with the Bureau of Reclamation in Colorado, Utah and Texas. He retired as project geologist on the Choke Canyon Dam at Three Rivers, Texas in 1980.
He was a member of the government inspection dive team during his service with the bureau and a member of the Association of Engineering Geologists and the California Association of Registered Geologists.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Toland Davis; son, Steven W. Davis (Patti), Lancaster, Texas and grandsons, Michael Gareth Davis (Crystal), Pittsburgh, Pa. and Joshua Daniel McClenny Davis (Bonnie), Loveland; son, Kirk Edwin Davis (Marilyn), Alma, Ark. and grandsons, Neal Edwin Davis, Sao Paulo, Brazil; Mark Edward Davis, Eric Evan Davis and Ryan Ellsworth Davis, Alma, Ark.; daughter, Gail Lynn Davis Barnhart (Joe), Dillon, Mont. and grandsons, Kevin Scott Barnhart, Adam Karl Barnhart (Annie) and Keith Alvin Barnhart, all of Denver; sister, Sophia Curb, Irving, Texas and brother, Irving Elbert Davis, Flower Mound, Texas and many nieces and nephews and kin in the Dallas area.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dona Evonne Lynch and niece, Elaine Shepard.
