Callista River Eliades Brian
Callista River Eliades Brian, 43, Villa Grove, died Nov. 18, 2003, at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.
She was born Feb. 22, 1960, in Ayer, Mass., to J. Edward and Priscilla (Edes) Eliades.
Mrs. Brian graduated from Sterling College in Vermont in 1981. She was in college studying naturopathy.
She owned and operated Sapphire Sky Design, where she designed jewelry.
Mrs. Brian was a strong believer in women’s rights and environmental studies.
She enjoyed going on walks, exercising and spending time with her children and the mountains.
Mrs. Brian was a past member of the Villa Grove Fire Department and designed and had built her own straw bale home which was a lifelong dream.
Mrs. Brian is survived by her parents, J. Edward and Priscilla Eliades, Hanover, N.H.; husband, Sam Brian; son, Sam Brian Jr.; daughter, Alexis Brian, all of Villa Grove; great-grandmother, Barbara Eliades, Ayer, Mass. and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Viewing will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the Villa Grove Church. Services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Villa Grove Church.

Leo ‘Bud’ Cook
Leo “Bud” Cook, 77, Salida, died June 1, 2003, at the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Cook was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Silt, to Leo F. and Gladys (Carpenter) Cook.
He was a Glenwood Springs High School graduate.
Mr. Cook married Patricia Veltrie Jan. 28, 1950, in Salida.
He was a longshoreman and built ships during World War II, he worked with the B&B gang for D&RGW and Koppers (creosote) Co. in Smeltertown.
Mr. Cook helped build the first nuclear power plant in Walla Walla, Wash. He was a branch manager for Pepsi for 27 years, and most recently worked in the sporting goods department at Wal-Mart.
Mr. Cook enjoyed fishing and meeting his friends at the bakery for coffee each morning. He was a past member of the Elks and a volunteer fireman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Patricia, Salida; sister, Marie (Mel) Jowell, Silt; sons, Gareth (Rhonda) Cook, Colorado Springs and Kelly (Penny) Cook, Salida; daughter, Lynola DeDual, Salida; sisters-in-law, Mary (Dan) Johnson, Emma Bernhardt and Betty Veltrie; grandchildren, Aaron (Treasure) Davis, Candance (Matt) Bernard, Andy Cook, Bradley Cook, Keli-Lyn Cook, Nicole Cook and Sydney Cook; great-grandchildren, Brandon Cook, Aiden Bernard and Serenity Davis; good friend, Allan Smith and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, people who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Joseph’s Helping Hands or the Ronald McDonald House in Colorado Springs through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Leo ‘Bud’ Cook
Funeral services for Leo “Bud” Cook were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Fr. Henry Grodecki C.M. officiated.
A poem was read by Amanda Smith and several taped musical selections were played.
Honorary pallbearers were Dan Johnson, Paul E. Nelson, James Nance, Carl Martellaro, Chester Price, Frank Showalter, Ralph Moore and Walt Iiams.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Chuck Nachtrieb
Chuck Nachtrieb, 88, Mesa Ariz., died May 16, 2003, in Mesa.
He was born to Charles and Ethel (Sebring) Nachtrieb in Nathrop at the Nachtrieb Ranch on Chalk Creek on April 9, 1915.
Services were held in Mesa, Ariz., May 29, where he was buried beside his wife, Rosie, who died Feb. 11, 1992.
He was also preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, “Doc” Joe and Cal; sisters, Charlotte Armstrong, Martha Carson and Virginia Gates; half-brother, Walt Packard and half-sister, Margaret (Nachtrieb) Donley.
Mr. Nachtrieb is survived by his sister, Ruby (Nachtrieb) VanBuskirk, Buena Vista; sons, Charles H. Nachtrieb IV (Roberta), Buena Vista and Dana Nachtrieb (Dee), North Pole, Alaska; daughter, M. Kathryn DeLuca, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Chuck Nachtrieb, “Old Dad,” was born and raised on the family ranch in Nathrop. He went to work at an early age for Tom McQuaid on the Salt Creek Ranch in South Park as a cowboy and bronc buster.
He enjoyed rodeoing for many years and later became a rodeo clown, now called a bull fighter. He was a bareback and saddle bronc rider. He worked until he was 82 and then retired.
Mr. Nachtrieb did ranch work, logging, mining and prospected what is now the Homestake uranium mine on Marshall Pass.
He was a heavy equipment operator and helped build the Thule Airbase in Greenland in the early 1950s.
He had his own trucks and equipment in the 1960s and drove truck for many years were he picked up the handle, “Old Dad.”
He semi-retired in 1984 and managed a large storage unit complex in Mesa, Ariz., until he was 82. Mr. Nachtrieb became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints during that time.
He enjoyed fishing, rodeos and watching all sports. He was a big fan of the church softball and baseball teams.
Mr. Nachtrieb enjoyed entertaining people playing piano, guitar or his harmonica.
“Old Dad” was always ready to tell a good story or give someone a helping hand.
An informal memorial service will be held in Mr. Nachtrieb’s memory at noon Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1166 in Johnson Village.
Clyde Keith Alexander
Clyde Keith Alexander died Jan. 25, 2004, at Hillview Manor nursing home, Goldthwaite, Texas.
He was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Elgin, Kans., to James Carlyle and Cassie L. Alexander.
Mr. Alexander graduated from New Mexico Military Institute in 1940 with a bachelor of science in geology and science. He then took two years of mining engineering and geology at the Colorado School of Mines.
His greatest interest was his rock collection and mining.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Georgia Belle Alexander, Brownwood, Texas.
Mr. Alexander is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Frank) Bartko, Brighton and Cindy (Dean) Champlin, Salida; sons, Darell (Jennifer) Alexander, Moffat and Eric (Brenda) Alexander, Borger, Texas; brothers, Doyle (Donna) Alexander, Borger, Texas; Gale (Marilyn) Alexander, Borger, Texas and Stan (Lizbeth) Alexander, Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister, Wanda Alexander, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church, Borger, Texas.

Howard Parker Wood
Howard Parker Wood, 76, died Feb. 1, 2004, at his residence in Howard.
Mr. Wood was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Pueblo, to Henry and Alfreda Wood.
He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and served in World War II.
He married Marie Hausauer in 1962 in Mexico.
Mr. and Mrs. Wood moved to Howard 24 years ago from Houston, Texas.
He ran his own construction company, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold, Kent, Norman, Don and Wayne Wood and step-daughter, Patricia Keifer.
He is survived by wife, Marie Wood of Howard; brother, Jack (Beverly) Wood, Pueblo; sons, Bill Wood of Texas and Steve Wood of Texas; stepson, Robert Markham of Florida; step-daughters, Audrey Ruddick of Idaho and Karen (Steve) Nace of Arizona and many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Howard Cemetery.

Howard Parker Wood
Funeral services for Howard Parker Wood were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Rev. Dub Chambers officiated. The organist was Mary Korf and the vocalist was Harold Heusel.
Musical selections were “Amazing Grace” and “In The Sweet Bye and Bye.”
Pallbearers were Jim Simpson, Keith Smith, Kenny Wahl, Ken Hilton, Jerry Hixon, Steve Nace and Dennis Carmichael.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank Burdick, Jack Wood, Steven Wood, Scottie Wood and Robert Markham.
Interment was in the Howard Cemetery. At the cemetery, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion held flag presentation ceremonies and a 21-gun salute.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Donald (Don) Perea
Donald (Don) Perea, 48, originally of Salida, died at home in Edgewater Jan. 29, 2004.
He was a 1974 graduate of Salida High School and attended Mesa State College. He married Virginia Louise Owens of Hotchkiss Oct. 3, 1975.
They lived in Grand Junction where he was active with the Jaycees from 1977-87. He was a business entrepreneur and managed several restaurants throughout Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Perea and father, Dan Medrano, both of Salida.
Mr Perea is survived by his wife, Virgina; sons, Shane of Littleton; Justin of Edgewater and granddaughter, Penelope Perea.
Other survivors are his brother, Tony (Priscilla) Perea; sister, Wilma Perea and brothers, Fin and Chuck Perea, of Denver; his niece, Andrea (Ruben) Godinez and their daughter Marina; nephews, Marco (Veronica) Perea; Troy (Steffanie) Gonzales and their children, Courtney, Tiffany and Anthony; Rudy (Amy) Gonzales and daughter Torrey; and Shaun Gonzales, his mother and father-in-law, Irene and Clyde Owens; brother-in-law Clyde (Leona) Owens and children Clyde, Jessie, Wendy; sister-in-law, Annalee (Wayne) Nickson and children Lacey, Colt and Cord.
He will be missed by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at Regis University Chapel, 50th and Lowell Blvd. in Denver at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
