Charles Richard Caynor
Charles Richard Caynor, 50, a lifetime resident of Salida, died July 11, 2003.
He was born Dec. 12, 1952, in Fort Benning, Ga., to Charlene (Caynor) Nelson.
His passions included his children, family, friends and the mountains. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed camping and arrowhead hunting. People also knew him as a man of many trades.
He was preceded in death by his son, Erin Joel Timberline; mother, Charlene Nelson; grandparents, Charles Buffin (Dutch) and Eva Haley and Aunt Dorothy (Dot) and Uncle Willis Sidener.
He is survived by his son, Isaac Taylor Caynor, Pueblo and daughter, Tara Renee Caynor, Salida; grandson, Lucian Caynor, Texas; sisters, Cathy (Gus) Argys, Salida; Teresa (Larry) Cummins, Spencer, Wis. and many friends and loved ones.
A remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Triple M Lounge. People who loved him and would like to share their memories, please attend.
His family will attend a memorial at a later date on the family’s property on Taylor Mountain.

Norma R. Imig
Norma R. Imig, 90, died June 30, 2003, in Mesa, Ariz.
Mrs. Imig was preceded in death by her son, W. Gerry Imig, Salida.
She is survived by her husband, Warner Imig, Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Ruth Shurtleff, Lincoln, Neb.; daughter, Betsy Imig, Boulder; daughter, Lynn Imig and partner, Cathy Hanisits, Denver; grandchildren, Kimberlee Imig, Fort Collins; John (Carin) Imig, Peoria, Ariz. and Sarah Imig, Denver; great-grandsons, Christopher and Forrest Imig, Fort Collins and Bradley and Brian Imig, Peoria, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Virginia Imig, Salida.
The Imigs previously lived in Boulder and they have been frequent visitors to Salida during the past 35 years.
Private interment was held July 6 in Boulder.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Warner and Norma Imig Choral Scholarship Fund through the University of Colorado Foundation at the College of Music, 301 UCB, Boulder, CO 80309.
Matt C. Glivar
Matt C. Glivar, 81, a lifetime Salida resident, died July 14, 2003, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Glivar was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Salida, to John and Mary (Kralich) Glivar.
He served in the Army during World War II.
At one time he worked for the U.S. Forest Service.
He was also involved in the family ranching business for many years.
Mr. Glivar was a member of the American Legion and St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his brothers, Joe Glivar, Salida; Frank Glivar, Salida; Rudy Glivar; Salida, Martin Glivar, Salida and Carl (Lucille) Glivar, Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Anne Darling, Salida; nephew, Carl (Sally) Glivar, Poulsbo, Wash. and grand nephews Justin and Brett Glivar of Poulsbo, Wash.
Visitation is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday and Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Matt C. Glivar
Mass of the Christian Burial for Matt C. Glivar was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Fr. Henry Grodecki C.M., was the celebrant. Organist was Georgianna Smith and soloist was Cathryn Bishop Campbell.
The musical selections were “How Great Thou Art,” “Ave Maria,” “Whispering Hope” and “The Strife Is Over.”
Pallbearers were Joe Shine, Frank Mazza, John Tancik, Bruce Long, Jim Scanga and Casey Everett.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery. At the cemetery, members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars held their flag presentation ceremonies.
Arrangements were with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Solomon G. ‘Sol’ Torres
Solomon G. “Sol” Torres, Salida, died July 24, 2003, at home.
He was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Capulin, to Joseph Eugene and Gertrude Gonzales Torres.
Mr. Torres served 24 years in the U.S. Army and served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served in the infantry, Military Police and Signal Service.
For his distinguished service he was awarded, among many others, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He retired in 1969 from the Army as master Sergeant.
He worked for the postal service, retired and moved to Salida.
Mr. Torres was a member of the Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, National Rifle Federation, Los Amigos, Trout Unlimited and the Wildlife Federation. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Alex Torres and sister, Lily Torres Gonzales.
Mr. Torres is survived by his wife, Beatrice Armenta Torres; daughters, Ingrid Pomeroy (Steve) of San Leandro, Calif. and Renate Harrison (Bill) of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Eric Harrison, Sean Harrison, Geneva Harrison and Danielle Pomeroy; brother, Gilbert Torres, Union City, Calif.; sisters, Claudine Roybal (Charles) of Salida and Alice (Milo) Vigil of Colorado Springs; stepsons, Mike, Joey, Albert and Kenny of Colorado and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday and Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Chester A. ‘Chet’ Rand
Chester A. “Chet” Rand, 85, long-time Salida resident, died July 26, 2003, at Anna Marie’s Personal Care Boarding Home.
He was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Richland, Kan., to Frank and Belle (Nutt) Rand.
Mr. Rand moved to Salida when he was 14 years old and started working at service stations. He eventually owned and operated his own station in Salida and owned and operated the Continental Bulk Agency, in Salida. Many locals will remember him servicing their vehicles.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Leadville, Salida Elks Lodge No. 808, the Shriners, the Consistory in Pueblo and the United Methodist Church.
He was an avid Harley Davidson rider and was a member of the Harley Owners Group.
Mr. Rand was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Betty Rand.
He is survived by his sons, Gene Rand, Arvada, Larry (Lynette) Rand, Cañon City and Ron (Penny) Rand, Williamsburg; sister, Melba Todd, Wellsville, Kan.; special friend, Louise Hyder, Salida; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church.

Helen Fear
Helen Fear, 83, lifetime Salida resident, died July 25, 2003, at Anna Marie’s Personal Care Boarding Home.
She was born April 12, 1920, in Salida, to Joe and Rose (Rendon) Cardinelli.
Mrs. Fear was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert H. Fear; sisters, Mary Gentile, Frances Cardinelli and Sister Consuella Cardinelli.
She is survived by her sons, Albert (Judy) Fear and Larry Fear and friend, Zada Morgan; grandchildren, Bill (Lori) Fear, Sean Fear, Tim (Doreen) Fear, Bridgett (Jude) Perez and Kimberly Fear; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Susie Reno; brothers, Angelo and Jimmy Cardinelli and by many nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Ann Peterson Service
Ann Peterson Service, 83, of Williamsburg, Va., died July 6.
She was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church and retired in 1984 from Colonial Williamsburg where she was employed as a supervisor. She was a resident of Williamsburg for 32 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Service Jr.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Tom Hale, Salida and Granby and Gail and Robert Regan, Northport, Ala.; grandchildren, Mark Hale, Steamboat Springs, Christopher “Kip” Hale, Telluride, Thomas Trey Cook and his wife, Tammy, Moundville, Ala. and Lindsey McKinney and her husband, Jason, Northport, Ala. and great-grandchildren, Talon McKinney, Skye McKinney, Taylor Tashe and Chase Cook.
A memorial service was held at Williamsburg United Methodist Church. A graveside service was held later in Middletown N.J.

Veva (Jeanie) Cain
Former Salida resident Veva (Jeanie) Cain died July 27, 2003, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center.
Jeanie O’Haver was born in Phippsburgh on Feb. 5, 1925, to Thomas and Marguerite O’Haver. She had two brothers, Robert R. O’Haver and Thomas D. O’Haver.
The family later moved to Salida, where she attended school. She graduated from Mt. St. Scholastica Academy in 1943.
She worked at the Colorado Springs Day Nursery and the Denver Orphan’s Home until her marriage in 1947 to Merlin Cain. One daughter, Donna Roadruck, was a result of this marriage.
In 1953, she returned to Salida where she worked as a switchboard operator for 28 years.
She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church until she moved to Muskogee, Okla. in 1999.
While in Muskogee, she especially enjoyed the fellowship and family she found at Dogwood Creek Assisted Living and at Eastside Community Church. She had been a resident of Eastgate Retirement Village for the past three months.
She is survived by her brothers, Robert R. O’Haver and his wife, Mary of Oxen Hill, Md. and Thomas D. O’Haver (Doreen ) of Denver; daughter, Donna Roadruck and husband, David of Muskogee, Okla.; granddaughter, Gretchen Herringshaw (Stewart) of Windsor, Mo; grandson, Doug Roadruck of Muskogee, Okla.; great-grandson, Teddy Herringshaw and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bradley Bell Chapel. Senior Pastor Marc Adams will officiate.
A memorial service will also be held in Salida at 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at the United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eastside Community Church Building Fund or to the United Methodist Church in Salida.
