Eleanor Mitchell Tuttle
Eleanor Mitchell Tuttle, 100, died May 20, 2003.
She was born Nov. 28, 1902, in Birdseye (Clinton), Utah, to James Archibald and Lillie Fillmore Mitchell.
She married Lawrence Elliott Tuttle May 24, 1927, in Payson, Utah. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1981.
As a child, her family moved to Payson, where she attended elementary, junior high and high school, where she was on the debate team.
She worked as an operator for Mountain Bell Telephone Co., where she retired as a supervisor.
Throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Tuttle was active in community affairs. She enjoyed several women’s clubs and was a master bridge player.
Her beautiful gardens were a great source of pride and enjoyment. She was always a gracious hostess, a good cook, and loved to entertain. She was a member of the LDS Church.
Mrs. Tuttle is survived by her children; Mrs. Rex (Joan) Lewis, Provo, Utah and Gene (Diane) Tuttle, Salida; five grandchildren, six more grandchildren in her extended family and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 E. Center Street, Provo, Utah. Interment was in East Lawn Memorial Hills.
Gloria E. Chance (DeLuca)
Gloria E. Chance (DeLuca), 71, died May 20, 2003, at her home in Watauga, Texas.
She was born in Salida April 11, 1932.
She married Gorman Chance Jr. June 12, 1954. In June 1967, they moved to Fort Worth, where they raised their four children.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Gorman Chance, Jr.; children, Gorman Chance III, Ginger Witt, Geri Honeycutt and Gay Chance; grandchildren, Steven Reynolds, Gorman Chance IV, April Witt and Jacqueline Honeycutt; great-grandchild, Nadja Hathcoat Chance and sisters, Ruth DeLuca, Donna DeLuca and Janet DeLuca.
No services were held.
Arrangements were with Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel, Watauga, Texas.
Sandra Kay Tunstall
Sandra Kay Tunstall died Aug. 22, 2003.
She celebrated her 59th birthday Aug. 10, 2003, with her family and many of her friends.
Mrs. Tunstall was born in Colorado to Lucky and Vickie Thurnau.
She was preceded in death by her birth father.
Her father throughout the remainder of her life is Duane Morgan, whose military career took Vickie, Sandy, her brother, Gary, and Duane’s children, Danny and Judy, to Irving, Texas.
There she met her husband and companion of 41 years, Bill Tunstall. Their children, Tammy and Kenneth, were born in Texas; however they always knew they wanted to return to Colorado.
They moved to Howard in 1981 and continued their commitment to friends, family, church and community.
They ran Sugarbush Campground and General Store in Howard for more than 13 years and started the Howard Chili Cookoff.
Mrs. Tunstall had many talents, including a great capacity for loving. She loved to have friends visit the Last Resort and stay in their cabins.
Her grandsons, Jacob and Steven, sons of Kenneth and Stephanie Tunstall, gave her great joy. She spent hours watching and playing with them, seldom telling them “no.” She had a close and nurturing relationship with both of her own children.
She also was gifted in arts and crafts and once owned a ceramics store in Texas. She painted, shaped, and shared her talents with those of us lucky enough to be a part of her life.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; children, Tammy Tunstall and Kenneth and Stephanie Tunstall; grandchildren, Jacob and Steven; parents, Vickie and Duane Morgan; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Chris Thurnau; sister, Judy Friesen; sister-in-law, Peggy Taylor; nieces, Margaret (Chad) Mueller, Stephanie Friesen and Katrina Thurnau; nephews, Kenneth (Leighann) Hardage, Jason Thurnau, Tony (Michelle) Taylor and Justin (Renee) Friesen and many great-nieces and nephews as well as honorary grandchildren and countless friends who provided support and friendship through the years.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the family home in Howard.

Sandra Kay Tunstall
Sandra Kay Tunstall died Aug. 22, 2003.
She celebrated her 59th birthday Aug. 10, 2003, with her family and many of her friends.

Elizabeth Ann Smith
Elizabeth Ann Smith, 86, died Aug. 23, 2003, in Cañon City.
She was born June 18, 1917, in Dorchester, Neb., to the late John and Clara (Jone) Ramsay.
She is survived by her only son, John R. (Nancy) Anderson, Lakewood; grandchildren, Tamara (Dale) Shallenberger, Lakewood and Caroline (Scott) Colburn, Golden; great-granddaughters, Kailey, 9 and Tarah Shallenberger, 6 and Sydney Colburn, 18 months; cousin, William “Billy” Ferguson, Chicago, Ill. and two nieces and one nephew.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Fairview Cemetery in Salida, with Reverend James McKean officiating.
Donations may be made to Father Flannigan, Boys Town, NE 68010.
Arrangements are through Holt Family Funeral Home, Cañon City.
Wayne A. Young
Wayne A. Young, 79, lifetime Salida resident, died May 28, 2003, at Columbine Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Young was born April 27, 1924, in Salida, to Dale and Clara (Goddard) Young.
He was a life member of Elks Lodge No. 808. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ascension Episcopal Church.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Young served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from June 1943 until April 1946.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Geraldine Young.
Mr. Young is survived by his brother, Robert (Elizabeth) Young, Pueblo; nephews, Bob (Cynthia) Young, Berthoud and Steve Young, Greeley and great nieces, Tia Young and Tiffany Hartley.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Judy K. Owens
Judy K. Owens, 61, Durango, formerly of Salida, died at her residence in Durango April 29, 2003.
Mrs. Owens was born Oct. 13, 1941, in Lincoln, Neb., to Earl and Verla (Van Hook) Boline.
She married Kenneth Owens July 4, 1985, in Salida.
Her interests included quilting, traveling with her husband, Kenneth and spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Antique Tractor Clubs in Delta and the Four Corners area.
Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Jerald J. Simon.
She is survived by her current husband, Kenneth Owens, Durango; son, Jeffrey (Meladee) Simon, Cañon City; daughter, Cheri (Doug) New, Buena Vista; stepson, Jeffrey (Sandi) Owens, Jackson, Mo.; stepdaughter, Melanie (Rob) Collins, Glenrock, Wyo.; brother, Richard (Cathy) Boline, Omaha, Neb.; sister, Billie (Ray) Leavitt, Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Salida.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Easter Seal Foundation through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Shane Bart Berry
Shane Bart Berry, 27, Texas Creek, died April 28, 2003.
Mr. Berry was born Aug. 26, 1975, in Colorado Springs, to Shane Berry and Linda Barger.
He married Christina Sage in September 1996.
Mr. Berry was a mechanic for Faricy Ford. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by grandfather, Bart Berry and grandmother, Ilse Schmidt.
Mr. Berry is survived by his wife, Christina Berry; daughter, Kylay Shayne Berry; son, Ethan Berry, all of Texas Creek; his parents; grandmother, Edith Berry, Utah; grandfather, Henry Schmidt; great-grandmother, Katie Nack, Germany; mother and father-in-law, Randy and Brenda Sage, Salida; brothers-in-law, Buck (Melissa) Sage, Nebraska and Wes (Julie) Sage, Salida; grandparents-in-law, Bill (Veronica) Ogden, Salida and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
