Robert M. McBride
Robert M. (Scotty) McBride, 72, died July 31, 2001.
He was born June 1, 1929, in Braeside Terrace, Fauldhouse, Scotland.
He married Sonja I. Sunde in 1956 and settled in Colorado Springs. In 1963, they moved to Salida.
Prior to an extended illness, Mr. McBride worked for the Climax Mine.
Mr. McBride is survived by sons, John G. and Robert S.; brother, William; and grandchildren, Adam, Robert, Anthony and Christopher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sonja I. (Sunde) McBride; and sisters, Margret Simm and Helen Young.
Services will be held later.
Loretta Ann Schoenfeld
Loretta Ann Schoenfeld, 49, died Aug. 4, 2001, at her residence in Colby, Kan.
She was born Dec. 1, 1951, to James Bernard Murphy and Barbara Rose Stojkovich Murphy, in Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Schoenfeld lived in Oakley for 31 years until moving to Colby in 1995.
She was a deputy county treasurer in Logan and Thomas counties.
Mrs. Schoenfeld was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, Kan., past member of St. Joseph’s Church, Oakley and a member of St. Joseph’s Altar Society.
She married Gerald R. Schoenfeld May 23, 1970, in Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Schoenfeld is survived by her husband, Gerald R. Schoenfeld, Colby, Kan.; sons, Gerald R. (Edie) Schoenfeld Jr., Poncha Springs, Richard S. (Lori) Schoenfeld, St. Marys, Kan.; daughter, Bridgit M. (Ken) Bockwinkel, Tribune, Kan.; brother, Dennis J. Murphy, Kansas City, Kan.; sister, Mary M. Murphy, Missoula, Mont.; grandchildren, Jacob Schoenfeld, Jesse Schoenfeld, Taegan Schoenfeld and Allison Bockwinkel.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant twin children.
Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Monday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley, Kan.
Rosary/wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley, Kan.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Church, Oakley, Kan., with Frs. Don McCarthy and Roger Meitl officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Oakley, Kan.

Claude Leonard Jessey
Claude Leonard Jessey died July 28, 2001, at his home in Salida.
He was born June 24, 1912, in Green Bay, Wis.
Mr. Jessey completed 12 years of school, receiving his diploma in 1930. He received his first grade teaching certificate in 1931. In 1942, he earned another teaching degree, altogether teaching almost 12 years.
He met Eleanore Grande around 1938 and they were married Aug. 3, 1940. They were married 59 years.
His teaching experiences included educating Potowatami Indian children on reservations near Soperton, Wis. Mr. Jessey also taught in several school districts in the Wisconsin area.
Because teaching did not pay enough for a growing family, he went to work for the WSL Laboratory and Research Development Department of the Marathon Corp., Rothschild Division, Rothschild, Wis.
He was assigned to lab work, experimenting with innovative materials of that time.
In 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Jessey moved to Mason, Wis., where they operated a restaurant for a short time and he taught fourth through sixth grades. They moved to West De Pere, Wis., where he worked at Milprint Inc., for 25 years.
In 1974, Mr. and Mrs. Jessey moved to Salida where, for the next 24 years, they were in partnership with their son, Loyal, in the ownership and operation of Salida TV.
Mr. Jessey’s love for teaching always remained with him. But, of all the years he spent teaching, he was best known for the last 54 years as a volunteer teacher of the Good News of God’s Kingdom.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanore Marie Jessey in November, 1999; his parents, Lyman Pratt and Lillian Clark Jessey; sisters, Ruth, Vivian, Hazel, and Phyllis; and brother, James.
Mr. Jessey is survived by his sons, Loyal Claude (Marile) Jessey, Howard and Gary D. (Esther) Jessey, Jenkins, Ky.; many grand and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Salida Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1040 I St., Salida.
Memorial contributions may be made to the World Wide Work Jehovah’s Witnesses, care of Salida Kingdom Hall, through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Walter T. Tucker
Walter T. Tucker (Wally), 62, died Aug. 1, 2001, in Elko, Nev.
Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife, Patti, Elko, Nev.; brother, Grover, Tucson, Ariz.; and sisters, Maelene Fields and JoEllen Conners, Buena Vista.
Edward C. Bradbury Jr.
Edward C. Bradbury Jr., 71, longtime Salida resident, died July 30, 2001, in Granite.
Mr. Bradbury was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Granite, to Edward F. Bradbury Sr. and Mary Edna (Rout) Bradbury.
He married Estella Finch Aug. 14, 1949, in Salida, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Mr. Bradbury and his wife ran the Sweet Shop in Salida for 18 years, until his retirement in 1992.
Mr. Bradbury was a Salida City Councilman for 11 years and a Chaffee County Commissioner for eight years.
He was president of the Upper Arkansas Area Council of Government and vice president of the advisory board of the Department of Interior Bureau of Land Management. He was a member of the National Organization of Counties.
He belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion/VFW.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, the outdoors and spending time with his family.
Mr. Bradbury was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Joe Bradbury and sister, Gertrude Bradbury.
He is survived by his wife, Estella Bradbury, Salida; daughters, Charleen (Richard) Smyth, Salida, Theresa Ray-Bradbury, Anchorage, Alaska, Dianna (James) Chaffin, Elko, Nev.; brothers, Sam (Elsie) Bradbury, Salida, Jim (Claudia) Bradbury, Denver/Salida, Ace Bradbury, Salida and Tom (Roberta) Bradbury, Peoria, Ariz.; sisters, Mary Ellen (Richard) Dano, Los Angeles, Calif., Peggy (Scott) Kelso, Howard, Patricia (Bill) Holton, Salida and Joanne Bradbury, Salida; grandchildren, William Smyth and Steven Smyth, both of Salida, Jessica Ray and Jennifer Ray, both of Anchorage, and Amanda and Pamela Chaffin, Elko, Nev.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Thursday at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 1 p.m. Friday, with Mass to follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Police Transient Fund or Developmental Opportunities, through Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Frieda McCollum
Frieda A. McCollum, 99, died July 20, 2001.
She was born in Coloma, Mich., July 2, 1902, and outlived 12 brothers and sisters.
She married Cyrus McCollum in Watervliet, Mich., Aug. 25, 1925. Mr. McCollum died in 1978.
Mrs. McCollum worked her way through Western Michigan State College in Kalamazoo in the 1920s.
She taught grade school for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Don) Asay, Buena Vista; sons, Phillip (Marjorie) McCollum, Albuquerque, N.M. and Hap (Carol) McCollum, Austin, Texas; half-brother, Donald Sonnenberg, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Buena Vista.
Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Ray D. Martinez Jr.
Ray D. Martinez Jr., 32, formerly of Salida, died May 29, 2001, in New Mexico.
He was born Jan. 5, 1969, to Ray G. (Donna) Martinez Sr.
Mr. Martinez enjoyed car shows and fixing up vehicles, especially old vehicles. He also enjoyed drawing, car painting and was a tile layer.
He is survived by his mother, Donna (Bill) Martinez; fiancee, Debra Arias; son, Adrian Martinez; daughters, Sasha Blakeslee and Jessica Arias; sister, Amy (Mitch) Wilcox; niece, Nina Wilcox and grandmother, Aurora Martinez and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his father.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Alonzo Quintana
Alonzo “Al” Fred Quintana Sr., 78, long time Salida resident and business owner, died May 29, 2001, at Mountain Meadows Nursing Home in Monte Vista.
He was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Cerro, N.M. to Horocia and Mabel (DeLeon) Quintana.
Mr. Quintana moved to Salida in 1978 and opened the Jug Liquor store, which he ran for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a past member of Los Amigos.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Quintana; ex-wife, Pauline Quintana; his parents; brother, Orlando Quintana and sister Belinda Wolford.
Mr. Quintana is survived by sons, Fred Quintana, Salida, Paul (Beverly) Quintana, Saguache; daughters, Charlotte Lovato, Christine Ortiz, both of Salida and Lorraine Quintana, Saguache; brothers, Robert Quintana, Pueblo and Floyd Quintana, Colorado Springs; sisters, Veronica Salazar, Janie Vargas, both of Denver and Flossie Salazar, Pueblo; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. and Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
