Linda Evans
1941 - 2008
Linda was born in Los Angeles, California to the parents of James and Margaret DeLaVette. Both parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Lloyd Evans and their three children Brian Evans, David Evans, and Mary Evans.
Linda attended Highland High School of Nursing in Oakland, California where she received her Registered Nursing Degree. She then practiced nursing at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California; Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Los Angeles, California; University of California at Los Angeles; “Little” Country General – Los Angeles and finally at Wardenburg Student Health Center At CU – Boulder.
Linda had an adventurous spirit. Early in her career, close friends convinced her that being a flight attendant for TWA would be an excellent way to see the world and utilize her nursing degree since some of the airlines at the time wanted registered nurses as flight attendants on domestic and international flights.
Her love of travel was instilled in her children, especially in her daughter. These “two girls” begin to travel when Mary was only five years old. Linda was a fearless traveler who never hesitated to drive to California, Texas, Chicago, or even the East coast. The coast of Maine with its lighthouses was a special place for Linda. These “girl only” trips created a bond with her daughter that allowed Mary to discover that women could go anywhere and do anything.
Linda’s independent spirit combined with a selfless and unassuming nature were the enduring highlights of her personality. Her background as a nurse and a flight attendant allowed her to initiate conversations with people she had never met before. Nobody was a stranger to Linda.
Her sons, Brian and David, knew her as a nurturing and loving mother. She was always passionate about their welfare and future plans. When Brian married Samantha and David married Kelli, she embraced both wives as her own daughters. She cherished and loved her grandchildren, Caleb, Mia, and Jackson. Pictures of her grandchildren were always available for viewing.
Family was always the center of Linda’s life. We hope that everyone who came to know Linda would also remember her as being the selfless and caring person we knew and loved.
A private family graveside service will be held out of state. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held in Boulder at a later date.

Jay Robison Gould, Boulder, CO
1918 - 2008
Jay Robison Gould of Boulder passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008, in Boulder. He was 90 years old.
The son of Legrande Gould and Euphemia Robison Gould, he was born April 25, 1918, in Agate, Colorado. Jay moved to Boulder in 1931.
He married Ora Leota Reed on October 8, 1942, in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Jay served in the United States Army from July 17, 1942, to November 30, 1945. He served during World War II in the European Theater in Northern France and the Rhineland.
Jay was a Christian; a member and Past Master of Boulder Masonic Lodge No. 45; Queen Esther Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star; Boulder Elks Lodge No. 566; Pleasant View Grange No. 164 in Boulder; the American Legion; and the VFW.
Jay worked for the Public Service Company of Colorado for 35 years, retiring in March 1983. He drove the bus for Public Service. After retirement from Public Service, he worked at Howe Mortuary in Boulder, Boulder Masonic Temple, and K-Mart in Boulder, finally retiring again in 1999.
Jay was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ora, of 64 years on September 4, 2006.
He is survived by two sons, Jay Gould of Princeton, Texas, and Kent Gould of Wheat Ridge; a daughter, Sharon Mosler and her husband Gary of Boulder; three grandchildren, Abby Mosler of Boulder, Reed Mosler and his wife Anne of Mead, and Amy Fanberg and her husband Kevin of Firestone; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Jay Mosler of Mead, Olivia Kate Mosler of Mead, Logan Samuel Fanberg of Firestone, and Emily Joy Fanberg of Firestone.
He is also survived by four sisters, and was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Bible Church, 3245 Kalmia Ave., Boulder, with Pastor Rick Cross of Faith Baptist Church in Longmont officiating. A luncheon reception at the church will follow the service.

Helen Irene Peterson, Boulder, CO
1911 - 2008
Helen Peterson of Boulder passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008, at the Frasier Meadows Health Care Center, nearly one month before her 97th birthday.
Helen was born in Valley Falls, Kansas, to Edward E. Beauchamp and Lona (Butler) Beauchamp. On September 2, 1934, she married Clarence E. "Pete" Peterson, who preceded her in death on August 26, 1976.
As the second of four children born to a Methodist Minister, Helen spent her childhood in numerous towns in Kansas and in New York and New Jersey. She graduated from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas, in 1933, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, in which she remained active until the past several years.
Throughout the 1930s, she lived and worked in Kansas. During the years of World War II, Helen and Pete, a Captain in the US Army, lived on a number of military bases in the United States and then spent two years in the Panama Canal Zone. In 1948, they moved to Colorado, where they had spent many happy summers, and settled in Colorado Springs. There, Helen worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Law Mortuary. Helen and Pete were active members of the First Methodist Church of Colorado Springs, and Helen belonged and served as President of the Colorado Springs Chapter of Pilot Club International, a professional society for business women and world wide service organization.
Helen and Pete retired to Boulder in 1974 to be close to their daughter and her family. After Pete's death, Helen continued to work and was active in community service, but she spent most of her time enjoying her two grandsons, playing bridge, and traveling with friends. She belonged to Mountain View Methodist Church.
Helen is survived by her daughter Pamela Marcantonio and her son-in-law Gianfranco Marcantonio of Boulder and by two grandsons and their families: Giandomenico, Jessica, and Lorenzo Marcantonio of Irving, Texas, and Roberto, Jami, Margot and Arianna Marcantonio of Broomfield.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to Frasier Meadows Retirement Community and to HospiceCare of Boulder & Broomfield Counties for the friendship and care given to Helen for the last three years.

Lorene Joyce Vervalin, 92, passed away on September 06, 2008.
She is survived by her son, Michael of Denver, 4 granddaughters, Mikaila Hoppe (Dan), Brittany Hutson (Paul), Blair Wade (Lucas) Hillary Vervalin, and two great granddaughters, Annabelle, and Alana.
She was born in Clinton Missouri, December 24, 1915 but moved to Boulder, Colorado, at a young age. She attended Colorado Preparatory School and graduated from the University of Colorado. Her first husband, Donald D. Pucket, an Air Force bomber pilot, lost his life in 1944 over Ploesti, Rumania, during World War II. She later married her husband of 59 years, Eugene H. Vervalin. He died in 2006.
A sister, Lucille, and daughter, Carol, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Vervalin was a home service caseworker for the American Red Cross and later was a teacher in the Jefferson County schools until her retirement in 1975.
She served as a volunteer at the Pioneer Museum and was a Cansurmount Volunteer for many years in the Boulder and Denver area. She was a member of the Colorado Historical Society and the Genealogy Society.

Nearly blind in her later years these books on tape provided endless value and entertainment for her.

1915 - 2008
Gayle Rothmeier passed away on August 29, 2008, at the age of 93. She was born on August 26, 1915, in Munden, Kansas, to parents Earl and Bertha Garber. She moved to Alexandria, Nebraska in 1930. She was a schoolteacher in Alexandria until she married the love of her life, Joe Rothmeier, on June 1, 1935. They moved to McCook, Nebraska where they owned a furniture store for many years. In 1956, they moved with their three daughters to Boulder, Colorado. In their retirement years, they relocated to Rio Verde, Arizona. After Joe’s death on April 30, 1988, she moved to Fountain Hills, Arizona, where she resided, living independently, until her death.
Besides her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by twin daughters, Mary Jo and Margaret Jane; a grandson, Monte Scott Comer; and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Jo Comer.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Tallman of Oro Valley, Arizona; Judy Hulst of Fresno, California; and Pamela Jordan of Boulder, Colorado. She was proud of her six grandchildren; Toby Comer of Firestone, Colorado; Robin (Moses) Ramos of Fresno, California; Jamie (Rick) Smith of Flagstaff, Arizona; Shelly (Chris) Franco of Clovis, California; Erin (Robert) Brown of Batavia, Illinois; and Cody (Jennifer) Comer of Oro Valley, Arizona. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in Boulder, Colorado at the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church at a later date. She will be laid to rest in the Sacred Heart Cemetery beside her husband Joe.

1916 - 2008
Faith Butler passed away September 9, 2008 at her home in Boulder, on the morning before her ninety-second birthday.
Faith was born September 10, 1916 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Jesse and Ulysses A. James. She grew up in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and was the youngest of eight children, in a home that placed a high value on education. Faith graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1940 and received her Master’s Degree in 1942 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She became the Director of the Baptist Student Union at Winthrop College, South Carolina and later, at Florida State University.
In 1949, Faith married I.A. Butler and moved to Boulder. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and volunteered in many community organizations. She also enjoyed gardening and sharing her bounty of flowers and vegetables with neighbors and friends. She loved to travel and explore the world. However, her greatest delight was her role as homemaker, mother, neighbor, and wife.
Faith is survived by her loving husband of 59 years and their three children, Barbara (Beat) Steiner of Boulder, Janna (Bruce Byers) Butler of Louisville, CO and Jim (Isabell) Butler of Boulder, CO, and five grandchildren, Chris Steiner, Anya Byers, Elizabeth Steiner Conway, Rebecca Steiner and Jonathan Byers.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Boulder, 1237 Pine Street, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2008. A reception will follow the services at the church.

Thelma Marie Wagaman, Boulder, CO
1919 - 2008
Thelma Marie Wagaman passed away peacefully on September 4, 2008 at the age of 89 with her family at her side.
Thelma was born Thelma Walker to John and Bessie Walker on Aril 2, 1919 in Fort Lupton, Colorado. She was the middle child of 9 children with 2 brothers and 6 sisters.
Thelma grew up in Fort Lupton, CO then met Ray Wagaman in Grand Junction, CO while visiting her sister and brother-in-law. Ray and Thelma were married in Fort Lupton at her family home on July 15, 1941. After Ray’s four years in the US Army, Thelma and Ray relocated several times with Ray’s position at the JC Penney Company. Eventually, Boulder became their permanent home, as Thelma loved the mountains.
In Boulder, Thelma worked for 19 years at the University of Colorado in the Arts and Sciences Records Department.
Thelma was an active member of the Methodist Church Ladies of the Elks and Buffalo Bills. She also played the piano voluntarily at Boulder Manor for the residents at the First United Methodist Church and for the Ladies of the Elks meetings. Music was very important to Thelma and she played the piano “by ear.” She also loved to golf and belonged to a ladies golf group. One of Thelma’s greatest jobs was to make muffins and give them to relatives and friends.
Thelma and Ray were married for 67 years and theirs was a true love story. They took many trips to Alaska and Kansas to visit family. In the 1980’s, they took their dream trip to the British Isles.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Walker and Harold Walker and their wives; sisters, Vera Petersen, Margaret Everett, Louise L Pointe, Pat Jaynes and their husbands; and sister, Harriet Smith.
Family was very important to Thelma. She is survived by her husband of 67 years Ray Wagaman, sister, Arla Stein and husband Don, of Idaho Springs CO; brother-in-law Paul Smith of Longmont, CO and sister-in-law Mae Uhlemann of Greeley, CO.
Other survivors include daughters, Janice Pool and her husband, Chuck of Ketchikan, AK and Martha Schlittenhardt and her husband, Dan of St. Francis, KS. She is also survived by grandchildren Laurie Pool of Ketchikan, AK; Grant Pool of Seattle, WA; John Pool and wife Angela of Ketchikan, AK; Jennifer Hoffman and husband Joe of St. Francis, KS. And Kristin Stevens and husband Shannon, of McCook, NE.
Thelma’s four great grandchildren are Logan and Jackson Pool of Ketchikan, AK; Taylor Stevens of McCook, NE; and Lane Hoffman of St Francis, KS
Thelma is survived, as well, by numerous nephews, nieces and friends, all of whom have been a very special part of her life.
A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Methodist Church on Friday, September 12 at 4:00 pm followed by a reception at the church.
At Thelma’s request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Plant- A- Tree Foundation or the family suggests contributions to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026 who have been an invaluable service to us.

Loyal E. Ayde passed away on December 12, 2008 in Boulder, CO. He was 52.
Loyal was born on September 18, 1956 in Denver, CO to John E. and Shirle M. (Steele) Ayde and married Jill (Williams) Ayde on February 26, 1983 in Estes Park, CO. Loyal graduated from Fairview High school in 1974. He attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado until 1979, where he skied and worked on a degree in his spare time. Loyal was in the ski industry for 22 years managing various ski tuning and repair shops. He most recently worked in construction for Markel Homes Construction Company in Boulder. His children were the light of his life and he loved to be outside where he enjoyed skiing, biking, fly fishing and golf.
Loyal was a kind and gentle person who lived life to the fullest. He is survived by his wife Jill Ayde of Boulder; children Maddie Ayde and Kensey Ayde of Boulder; siblings Holly Wacker, Tracy Emmons, Amy Bausano, Corey Ayde, and Alisa Kice; and his mother Shirle Ayde. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Ayde.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO.

Marianne Pfaff, Quincy, MA
Marianne Pfaff of Quincy, MA, passed away December 10, 2008, at the age of 86. Born and raised in Switzerland, she and her husband, Mario Pfaff, immigrated to the United States in 1947. They made their home in Lexington, MA, where they raised their family and she worked as a librarian at Northeastern University’s Burlington campus. In 1993, she moved to Boulder, CO, to be close to two of her daughters and the mountains. She spent the last four years of life in Quincy, MA, cared for by her eldest daughter.
Mrs. Pfaff, beloved wife of the late Mario Pfaff, and loving mother, leaves her three daughters, Frances Schlesinger of Hingham, MA, Christine Pfaff of Evergreen, CO, and Alice Seigal of Boulder, CO. She is also survived by her beloved six grandchildren.
Services were private.
