Clara Leone Lambert

Oct. 1, 1919 - Feb. 6, 2006

Clara Leone Lambert, of Longmont, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Applewood Living Center, in Longmont. She was 86.

The daughter of Gustaf DeClercq and Bessie DeClercq, she was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Trosky, Minn. She married LeRoy Lorenz Lambert on Aug. 18, 1951, in Ortonville, Minn.

Mrs. Lambert moved to Longmont in 1979.

Mrs. Lambert enjoyed sewing, embroidery and artwork, especially sketching and drawing.

Survivors include four nephews and five nieces, and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Henry DeClercq; and two sisters, Lucile Eliasen, and Evelyn Benting.

Visitationwill be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Foothills Gardens of Memory, 2051 Terry St., Longmont. Pastor Paul Rhode will officiate.

Richard Albert Mendez

April 28, 1945 - Feb. 4, 2006

Richard Albert Mendez, of Longmont, died of cancer Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in Longmont. He was 60.

The son of Pedro Mendez and Juana Rodriguez Mendez, he was born April 28, 1945, in Longmont. He married Jana Wells in 1964 in Longmont. They divorced. He married Christie Owens in 1989 in Longmont.

Mr. Mendez was a lifelong resident of Longmont.

A graduate of Longmont High School in 1963, Mr. Mendez attended the University of Northern Colorado on a ROTC scholarship, earning his bachelor's degree in education in 1967 and his master's degree in botany in 1969.

Mr. Mendez was a science teacher at many local middle and high schools over his 29-year teaching career, including Longmont and Niwot high schools, Heritage and Westview middle schools and Longs Peak Junior High, where he helped found the Peak II laboratory school, an alternative school-within-a-school.

A founding member of El Comite de Longmont, Mr. Mendez was a member of the Denver Field Ornithologists and Colorado Field Ornithologists. He traveled to five continents and 18 countries, identifying hundreds of bird species. He enjoyed the food, arts and history of other cultures.

Survivors include his wife, of Longmont; a son, Christopher Mendez, of Edgewater; two daughters, Jennifer Mendez, of Longmont, and Amy Mendez, of Houston; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry Mendez; and a granddaughter, Jada.

A memorial service, with reception to follow, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at LifeBridge Christian Church, 10345 Ute Highway, Longmont.

WENDY JEAN FOX

Wendy Jean Fox, of Boulder, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at her residence. She was 48. Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of M.P. Murphy and Associates Funeral Directors in Boulder.

Lydia Hladky, of Lafayette, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at her residence. She was 87. Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of M.P. Murphy and Associates Funeral Directors in Boulder.

Virgil Vernon Rosenberger

March 2, 1904 - Feb. 4, 2006

Virgil Vernon Rosenberger, of Boulder, died of natural causes Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in Boulder. He was 101.

The son of Robert Rosenberger and Margaret Thomas Rosenberger, he was born March 2, 1904, in Milan, Minn. He married Ruby Wildman in December 1932 in Boulder. She died in 1985. He married Fay Wickes in May 1987 in Denver. She died in 2000. He married Lillian Meinhart on June 1, 2003, in Boulder.

Mr. Rosenberger moved to Boulder in 1932.

A graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Colorado, he taught music and was a band and orchestra conductor at CU, the University of Wisconsin and Adams County School District 50 in Westminster.

He enjoyed audio and visual media and attending the symphony.

He was a "devout Christian, " his family said.

Survivors include his wife, of Boulder; a brother, Glenn Rosenberger, of Oak Harbor, Wash.; a daughter, Virginia Asti, of Boulder; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first two wives and a daughter, Barbara Crawford.

Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 W. South Boulder Road, Lafayette.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary. The Revs. Robert Dallenbach and Will Reller will officiate. Interment will follow at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th St., Boulder.

Contributions in Mr. Rosenberger's may be made to any charity of the donor's choice.

Ellen Day

March 3, 1943 - Feb. 5, 2006

Ellen Day, of Longmont, died of a cerebral aneurysm Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, in Longmont. She was 62.

The daughter of Robert Henry Eldred and Anna Louise Egyed Eldred, she was born March 3, 1943, in Tacoma, Wash. She married Daniel Day in Durango. They divorced.

Ms. Day moved to Boulder County in 1996.

A graduate of Ambassador College, in Pasedena, Calif., with degrees in English and theology, Ms. Day was employed with La Plata County Sheriff's Department, the Washington State Patrol and S.M. Stoller Corp., in Lafayette.

She enjoyed gardening and reading Louis L'Amour books, and volunteered with Civitan Clubs in Durango and Tacoma, and with the Respite Care Volunteer Program of Boulder County Aging Services.

"She will be remembered as a wonderful mom and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, " her survivors said.

Survivors include three daughters, Kim Wiggins, of Berthoud, and Marie Preitauer, and Rachel Day, both of Longmont; her mother, of Tacoma; two sisters, Veda Fisher, of Severn, Md., and Jeanne White, of Tacoma; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; and a daughter, Karla Day.

A memorial gathering and celebration of lifewill be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont. Family will be present to greet friends.

Joy J. Bragg

Feb. 5, 1928 - Feb. 3, 2006

Joy J. Bragg, of Boulder, died of natural causes Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 77.

The daughter of William H. Page and Erma B. Adcock Page, she was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Earlington, Ky. She married William W. "Bill" Bragg on June 10, 1949, in Paragould, Ark.

Mrs. Bragg moved to Boulder from Steger, Ill., in 1961.

A high school graduate, Mrs. Bragg was a homemaker. She was an adherent of the Christian faith, and a member of Sigma Phi Sorority and Bridge Club. Mrs. Bragg enjoyed crafts, cooking, reading, tending her flower gardens, music, dancing, laughing and dogs.

"Taking her to Black Hawk so she could push those buttons on the video poker game made her very happy, " her family said. "She loved life, the people around her, and her husband and children. Seeing her grandsons was the delight of her life."

Survivors include her husband, of Boulder; a son, William Scott Bragg, of Lafayette; a daughter, Gaylan Tracy, of Broomfield; a sister, Dorothy Furgerson, of Carbondale, Ill; and three grandchildren.

A receptionin honor of Mrs. Bragg's life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Tracy residence, 14166 Chantilly Court, in Broomfield.

Janice Mary Vuksta

Feb. 5, 1958 - Feb. 6, 2006

Janice Mary Vuksta, of Boulder, died of cancer Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, in Erie. She was 48.

The daughter of John Vuksta and Genevieve Moldach Vuksta, she was born Feb. 5, 1958, in Passaic, N.J. She married Michael Reamy. They divorced.

Ms. Vuksta moved to Boulder from Passiac in 1986.

A graduate of Seton Hall University, in South Orange, N.J., she was employed at Whole Foods Market in Boulder, where she worked in food preparation.

Ms. Vuksta was a member of Boulder's Origins Community Church, where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed the outdoors and animals.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn G. Reamy, and Megan Reamy, both of Boulder.

A memorial servicewill be at 11 a.m. today at Origins Community Church, 3901 Pinon Drive, Boulder, with the Rev. Brad Riley officiating.

Gail Diane Mantych

May 4, 1963 - Feb. 2, 2006

Gail Diane Mantych, of Longmont, died as a result of injuries sustained in 2000 in two automobile accidents, on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, in Longmont. She was 42.

The daughter of Louis J. Mantych and Cecille Curtiss Mantych, she was born May 4, 1963, in Denver.

She moved to Boulder County in 1981.

A graduate of Columbine High School in Littleton, Ms. Mantych completed her bachelor's degree in behavioral psychology from Metro State College in Denver and received her primary education teaching certificate. She worked as a private educator.

"She was gifted with children and loved children and teaching, " her family said.

Survivors include her partner, Matthew Kramer, of Longmont; her mother, of Littleton; and two sisters, Lisa Harder, of Littleton, and Toni Mantych, of Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A memorial servicewill be at 3 p.m. Friday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont. A reception will follow at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 803 3rd Ave., Longmont. The Rev. Deral Schrom will officiate.

Corinne True Taylor Hand

March 25, 1911 - March 10, 2006

Corinne True Taylor Hand, of Albany, N.Y., and formerly of Boulder, died of natural causes Friday, March 10, 2006, in Albany. She was 94.

The daughter of Benjamin R. Taylor and Dora Gerhardt Taylor, she was born March 25, 1911, in Cincinnati. She married Thomas Lee Hand in 1937 in Columbus, Ohio. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hand lived in Boulder from 1978 until 1986.

A graduate of Withrow High School, in Cincinnati, and the University of Cincinnati, Mrs. Hand was a children's librarian for the Cincinnati Public Library.

"From an early age, Corinne embodied a proud spirit, " her family said. "In her last written notes she remembered the poem and saying, 'sing no sad songs for me, no weeping at the bar.'"

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Hand, of Albany, and Sara Hand, of Randolph, Vt.; one son, Thomas Hand, of Boulder; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.

Hans Funeral Home, in Albany, handled arrangements.

Mary Ann Callan
Sept. 30, 1927 - March 17, 2006

Mary Ann Callan, a resident of Boulder County since 1961, died of lung disease Friday, March 17, 2006, in Boulder. She was 78.

The daughter of Willard P. Lindauer and Marie Gowey, she was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Davenport, Iowa. She married Dean W. Callan on Aug. 2, 1953, in Omaha, Neb.

A teacher and homemaker, Mrs. Callan attended Iowa State University and graduated from the University of Nebraska. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Mountain View Methodist Church and Boulder Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; a brother, John Lindauer; a son, Dave Callan, his wife, Carol, and their children, Greg and Tom; a son, Scott Callan, his wife, Myra, and their children, Lisa Lewis, Liz Callan and Gina Bergholz; grandchildren Beth, Rick, Katie, Ryan and Brendon; daughter, Becky Gamble, her husband, Bruce, and their children, Beau and Berkley.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Place, Boulder, with Beverly Fest officiating. Interment will be private.

Donations in memory of Mrs. Callan may be made to the Boulder Community Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. Box 9019, Boulder, CO 80301, or the Boulder Humane Society, 2323 55th St., Boulder, CO 80301.
