William "Orval" Allee
Funeral services for William Orval Allee, a resident of Cortez, will be held Monday, April 3 at the Evans-Brown Mortuaries in Sun City, Calif., beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Perris Valley Cemetery
in Perris, Calif.
Mr. Allee was born in Hammond, Okla., on Dec. 27, 1914, the son of Elbert Allee and Nonnie (Miller) Allee. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the age of 85.
Orval graduated from Perris High School. He married Hilda Rosemyer in Riverside, Calif., on Nov. 25, 1937. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage together.
Orval worked as a carpenter and building inspector for many years in Riverside, Calif. During WWII, he served his country in the Army. Orval was a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion.
Surviving him are his wife, Hilda, of Cortez; his daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Manson Merritt, of Cortez; grandchildren, Michael Merritt, and his wife, Priscilla, of Cortez; Rhonda Morton, of Cortez; great-grandson, Brandon Morton, of Cortez; and step great-grandchildren, Juan Padilla, of Tucson, Ariz., Rick Padilla, Ernie Padilla, and Angelina Ramsay, all of Cortez.
Orval is also survived by two sisters, Jessie Crites, of Mesa, Ariz., and Lavern Ramsey, of Concord, Calif.; and one brother, Virgil Allee, of Riverside, Calif.
Local arrangements are being made through the Ertel Funeral Home.
Charles Lee Whiteman
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30 at 11 a.m. in La Chapelle de Martin and Castille for Charles Lee Whiteman, who passed away Monday, March 27. He was 89.
Interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery
in Washington, La., with the Rev. Rhodes Stipp officiating.
Mr. Whiteman was born to Charles Robert Whiteman and Mertie Zoa Smith Whiteman in LaCrosse, Kans. He was a land surveyor for Texaco Oil company, and served as the City Manager of Cortez for nine years.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian, of Lafayette, La.; two sons; two step sons; one step daughter; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Parsons, his parents; one brother and one sister.
Arrangements are being handled by Martin and Castille, 318-234-2311.
Ernest "Ernie" Forsman
Ernest "Ernie" Forsman, a resident of Nucla, Colo., passed away on March 26, 2000 in Grand Junction, Colo. He was 82.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, at the Hale and Gerken Funeral Home in Naturita, Colo., with Rev. Rick Luster officiating. Interment will follow in the Nucla Cemetery.
He was born in Nucla on June 1, 1917, to Andrew Forsman and Anna Sunqust Forsman. He married Viola Kenoyer. He served his country in the Army, and was a rancher and farmer for most of his life.
He is survived by his brother, Everett Forsman of Nucla; sister, Edna Henderson of Montrose, Colo.; two nieces and two nephews.

Jerald "Jerry" Curtis Story
Jerald "Jerry" Curtis Story, resident of Aztec, N.M. since 1985, passed away on March 25, 2000.
Graveside services will be held in the Norwood Cemetery, Norwood, Colo., on Wednesday, March 29 at 2 p.m. A dinner will follow at the Moose Lodge in Nucla, Colo.
Jerry was the youngest of four boys born to William Davern Story and Jeanette (Roach) Story, in San Bernadino, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Leenie of Aztec; sons and their families, Curtis Lee (Lisa), of Cortez; William Curtis (Kathy), of Chubbuck, Idaho; daughters and their families, Linda Whited and family of Blackfoot, Idaho; and Terry Faulkner (Dave) of Plainfield, Ill.; his son-in-law and children; and two brothers. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and his aunt.
Bryce E. Shields
Because of inclement weather, the memorial service for Bryce Shields, 73, of Dolores, will be moved from the Joe Rowell Park to the Dolores Community Center. The service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 4.
A Dolores resident, Mr. Shields passed away at his sister’s home in Louisiana. He was 73 years old.
Ron and Nella Volz
Ron and Nella Volz started their life together Dec. 23, 1992. They passed away on Monday, March 20, 2000.
Services will be held on Monday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at Heran Mortuary in Denver with interment at Fort Morgan National Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
Ron was born in Pierre, S.D., on July 5, 1934. He was the oldest of 10 children. Ron was a civil engineer for the National Parks Service. He was a handyman and he would get himself involved in everyone’s home remodeling. He was always busy doing something.
Nella was born in Detroit, Mich. on Dec. 24, 1941, one of seven children. Nella was a kind and living person who would do anything for anyone.
Ron and Nella found each other late in life and shared their life by doing everything together. They enjoyed the outdoors, traveling to many places and visiting family members. Their families were very important to them. Their 13 grandchildren were the light of their lives, and they loved each and every one of them dearly, along with each other and the rest of their families.
Ron and Nella are survived by his children, Tim Volz of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mike (Wanda) Volz of Delta, Colo.; Cathy (Peter) Golesh of Seattle, Wash.; Connie Volz of Arvada, Colo.; her children, Bill (Darla) Hoover of Great Falls, Mont.; and Tammy (Kevin) Rompola, of Laramie, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren and their brothers and sisters.
Myrtle Marie Frizzell
Graveside services for Myrtle Marie Frizzell will be held at the Cortez Cemetery
on Monday, March 27, beginning at 10 a.m. Chaplain Marvin Graves will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday, March 27, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Frizzell was born on April 22, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Okla. to William Cecil Marberry and Grace (Wheeler) Marberry. She passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on March 22, 2000 at the age of 70.
Myrtle married Andy Frizzell on March 10, 1951 in Clovis, N.M.
Myrtle is survived by her husband, Andy, of Cortez; as well as her children, Daphne and Darrell Hinton of Cortez; Andy and Sharlane Frizzell of Cortez; Billye and John Morgan of Norfolk, Va.; Bruce and Jerri Frizzell ; Jeff Frizzell ; Ethel Frizzell ; Brandi Frizzell ; and Houston Frizzell and Lori Hernandez, all of Cortez.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and one great-granchild; her sister and brothers, Laura Seals of Muleshoe, Texas, Bill Marberry of Lubbock, Texas, Benton Marberry of Washington, and Robert Marberry of Houston, Texas.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents as well as a daughter, Denise Weller, and a grandson, A.J. Frizzell.
Noma Eleese Corbitt
Graveside services will be held for Noma Eleese Corbitt in Hollis, Okla., on Monday, March 27. The time has yet to be arranged.
Mrs. Corbitt was born on August 17, 1915 in Hollis, to David L. Crenshaw and Janie (Sapp) Crenshaw. She passed away at Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez on March 24 at the age of 84.
Noma is survived by her daughter, LaVanda E. Corbitt; a sister, Cornie Etta Smith of Hollis; a nephew and his wife, Billy Ray and Colleen Smith of Dolores; great-nephew, Michael Ray Smith of Dolores; and a nephew and his family, Dale, Wanda and Kara Crenshaw of Kirtland, N.M. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Minor Franklin Corbitt.

Filomena Muniz Gallegos
Funeral services for Filomena Muniz Gallegos will be held on Tuesday, March 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Cortez. Rosary services will be held on Monday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Gallegos was born on September 24, 1909 in Blanco, N.M., to Frank Muniz and Natividad (Garcia) Muniz. She passed away at her home on March 23, 2000 at the age of 90 years.
Filomena married José G. "Willie" Gallegos on February 20, 1928 in Blanco.
Filomena is survived by her 10 children, Tony C. Gallegos of Summit Ridge; Don Gallegos of Lewis; Marvine Lobato of Denver, Colo.; Martha Maez of Mancos; Leova Brinkerhoff of Mancos; Margaret Cordova of San Francisco, Calif.; Mary Alice Gonzales of Mancos; Eva Horne of Cortez; William F. Gallegos of Dolores; and Linda Valencia of Farmington, N.M.
She is also survived by 42 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her half brothers and sisters, Steve Muniz of Long Beach, Calif.; Frank Muniz of Dolores; Jim Muniz of Dolores; Henry Smith of Harrisonville, Mo.; Julia Barfield of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Eleanor LaLonde of Dolores; Helen Edwards of Dolores; Rose Ancell of Dolores; Lucille Gladem of Dolores; and Mary Ann Muniz of Dolores.

Corrine "Rose" Hight
Funeral services for Corrine "Rose" Hight will be held Wednesday, March 22, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Officiating will be Sister Lois Wooten and Brother Mac Coyote.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the Ertel Memorial Chapel between the hours of 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Rose was born Feb. 21, 1957, in Cortez, Colo., to Julian Root and Cybil Mae Hight. She passed away in Shiprock, N.M., on Saturday, March 18, 2000. She was 43 years old.
Rose graduated from Rehoboth Christian High School in 1975. She attended Eastern New Mexico State University and Fort Lewis College.
Rose is survived by her stepfather, Willie Light, of Shiprock, N.M.; her stepmother, Barbara Lyua, also of Shiprock, N.M.; her brothers and sisters, Jonas Light, of Towaoc; Elvena Light, of Shiprock, N.M.; Elizabeth Hobson, and her husband, Melvin, of Farmington, N.M.; Willard Light Jr., of San Diego, Calif.; Simon Light, of Towaoc; Lennie Lyua, of Kirtland, N.M.; Lisa Yazzie, of Tuba City, Ariz., and Joyclynn Light, of Pensacola, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted by the Ertel Funeral Home.
