Evelyn Jane Brennan
Graveside services for Evelyn Jane Brennan, a longtime resident of Cortez, will be held at the Mount Olivet Cemetery
in Wheatridge, Colo., on Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m.
Evelyn was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Akron, Colo., the first daughter and middle child of David and Clara M. (Latta) Elder. She passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Friday, April 14, 2000. Evelyn was 80 years old.
After graduating from high school, Evelyn went to Denver to attend beauty school to learn a profession that was to be a part of her life forever. She has owned three beauty shops in Cortez. Evelyn was also a very giving person, providing home health care for her beloved Tommy after a serious accident. She also provided care for a young son, Patrick, who died before his seventh birthday, and for her mother and a brother.
Evelyn married Thomas (Tom) Brennan in Denver, Colo., on Nov. 10, 1940. Moving to Cortez in 1949, Evelyn and Tom farmed and raised cattle at their home in the Lakeview area. Tom passed away on May 15, 1978, having celebrated more than 37 years of marriage together.
Surviving Evelyn is her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Bobbie Brennan, of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren, Margaret, Deanna, Wendy, Edwin, and Erin Brennan; and 16 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister, Pauline Taylor, of Hialeah, Fla.; sister-in-law, Irene King, of Cortez; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ertel Funeral Home will be conducting the services in Wheatridge.
Charles Robert Wright
Memorial services for Charles Robert Wright, 75, of Cortez, will be held Monday, April 17 at the Ertel memorial Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. Mr. Clem Lewis will officiate.
Mr. Wright passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Friday, April 14, 2000. He was born on Aug. 11, 1924 in Cahone, to Charles Floyd Wright and Hulda (Neely) Wright.
Robert Married Lois Darlene Wright in Rico on Oct. 15, 1961.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lois, of Cortez; his mother, Hulda Wright, also of Cortez; and numerous cousins.
Three brothers, Dale Wright, Harold Wright and Daryl Wright preceded him in death.
Ertel Funeral Home will be conducting the services.
Lynn J. Frazier
Lynn J. Frazier, a longtime resident of Lewis, passed away on April 13, 2000, at Southwest Memorial Hospital. He was 79.
Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Arriola Bible Church. Pastor Kent Sluyter will officiate the services.
Lynn was born to Jacob Robert and Jennie Spivey Frazier on March 2, 1921 at Keenesburg, Colo. He attended school in Keenesburg, and grew up in that area.
On May 10, 1942, he married Elsie E. Wagner in Denver. They were blessed with a son, Wallace.
Lynn was the owner of Downey-Moore Saw Company for 35 years before he retired and he and Elsie made their home in Lewis. Lynn and Elsie enjoyed their lives there for 21 years.
Lynn believed in the practice of providing good service to his customers, and enjoyed belonging to the Good Sam’s RV Club; attending church services at the Arriola Bible church with his wife; riding horses; helping his friends and neighbors with their cattle drives, and "playing machinist."
Lynn J. Frazier is survived by Elsie Frazier, his wife of nearly 58 years, of the family home; son Wallace (Sherry), of Lewis; sister, Vivian Howell of Denver; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and by many, many good friends.
His parents, three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions for Lynn Frazier may be made to the American Lung Association for research, or to a charity of your choice.

Alva L. Crabtree
Private family interment services will be held for Alva Lucille Crabtree, a longtime Cortez resident, who passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, April 11 at the age of 83.
Alva was born in House, N.M. on Nov. 14, 1916, the daughter of Charlie E. Burton and Mary Olive (Marshall) Burton. She married George C. Crabtree in 1937, and the couple moved to Cortez in 1939. George passed away in 1943, leaving Alva to raise three young children., She has made Cortez her home ever since.
Mrs. Crabtree is survived by sons Buck Crabtree of Cortez, Jerry Crabtree of Castle Rock, Colo.; and daughter Jan Elison, and husband, Clair, of Levelland, Texas. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother, J.V. Burton of Cortez; and two sisters, Ivy Crandell of Martinez, Calif. and Jo Nelson of Seattle, Wash.
Mrs. Crabtree was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Crabtree, and by her parents.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in Alva’s name to Vista Grande Rehabilitation and Care Center, Activity Department. Arrangements are being made through the Ertel Funeral Home.
Ray Niswanger
Graveside services for Ray Niswanger, 74, of Monroe, La. will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 14 at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery
with Mr. Don Glover officiating. He passed away on April 11, 2000 in Lubbock, Texas.
He was a member of the Forsythe Church of Christ, and a 4-H Club Leader and a business leader in Ouachita Parish. He served his country in the Navy, seeing duty in Okinawa. Mr. Niswanger owned and operated Consolidated Truck Parts in Monroe and Consolidated Cattle Company in West Texas. He was a supporter of Ouachita Christian School and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; daughter Rae Lynn Smith (Jack) of Oak Point, Texas; son, Joe Niswanger (Deborah) of Many, La.; several grandchildren; his mother, Agnes Karels; sister, Kathy Kelly; and brother, Gene Karels (Millie), all of Waco, Texas.
Memorials may be made to Forsythe Church of Christ or to Ouachita Christian School.

Elfrieda A. "Frieda" Hendricks
Funeral services for Elfrieda A. "Frieda" Hendricks, a resident of the Valley Inn Nursing Home, will be held at the Ertel Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 12, beginning at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Dunham, of Summit Lake Community Church. Linda Malinsky of the Valley Inn will be singing several of Elfrieda's favorite hymns. Interment will follow the service at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7500 Paseo del Norte, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Frieda was formerly of Weirton, W. Va., moving to Albuquerque, N.M. in 1994, and finally moving to the Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos in September of 1998. There she was affectionately known as "The Boss".
She was born to Adolph and Helen (Rahn) Olen in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Sept. 20, 1909. She passed away in her sleep on April 9, 2000, at the age of 90.
Frieda is survived by her loving caregiver husband, Sanford E. Hendricks, to whom she had been married for 66 years. She is also survived by her son, Don Hendricks and his wife, Joan; three grandchildren, Mike and Nancy Hendricks; Mark and Sunnee Hendricks; and Jill and Barry Williams; four great-grandchildren, K.C., Jaeden, Railee, and Hannah.
Three sisters, Florence and "Mac" McPherson, Esther Bishirjian, and Elsie Miller, survive Frieda, as does one niece, Debbie and Dennis Vendetti; four nephews, George and Peggy Olen, Eddie and Beverly Olen, Richard and Terry Bishirjian, and Paul and Mary Jane Dean.
Preceding Elfrieda in death were her parents; her sister, Dorothy; two brothers, Walter and Bill Olen; and her stepmother, Mrs. Flora Shirley.
Elfrieda was a wonderful Christian woman, a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Pittsburgh for many years.

Florence Willette Kelly
Florence Willette Kelly of Aztec, N.M. passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at her home. At her request, no services are planned and cremation has been arranged.
She belonged to the Presbyterian Church and to the Cortez Chapter #87 Order of the Eastern Star C 1947.
Surviving her are her sister, Betty Wilhite of Aztec; half-brothers Luther (Suzie) Canon of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Jean (Sharon) Canon of Phoenix, Ariz.; Frank (Charlotte) Canon of Norman, Okla.; half-sisters Jeanette Bartlett of Phoenix; Linda Button of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Dora Spor of Norwood, Colo.; aunt, Easter Baker; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Olive; step father, John Canon; and sister, Grace J. Willette.
Leroy Lehi
Graveside services for lifelong Towaoc resident, Leroy Lehi, will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2000 at the Towaoc Cemetery
beginning at 10 a.m.
Officiating will be Sister Lois Wooten. A wake was held Wednesday evening in Towaoc for Mr. Lehi.
Leroy was born on Sept. 20, 1944, in Ignacio, the son of Curtis Rochester Lehi and Susan Pavisook Lehi. He passed away at his home in Towaoc on Saturday, April 1, 2000. Leroy was 55 years old.
Surviving him are his children, Isaac R. Lehi, of Albuquerque, N.M., Yolanda Kim Lehi, of Cedar City, Utah, Adrianna Lehi, of Towaoc, Abe Horrocks, of Grand Junction, Colo., Cordelia Lynn Miera, of Mancos, and Tasheila Lehi, of Cedar City, Utah. Leroy is also survived by eight grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters, Larry Lehi, Christine Lehi, Benjamin Lehi, all of Towaoc, and Mary Ann Owl, of Navajo Mountain, Utah. Four brothers, Joseph Lehi, Roger Lehi, Douglas Lehi, and Luther Lehi, preceded Leroy in death, as did his sister, Corrine Lehi.
Leroy's daughter, Renee Timican, preceded him in death.

Owna Hebel
Owna Louise Hebel, a native of Cortez, passed away at her residence on Friday, March 31, 2000. She was 72.
Owna was born to Owen and Ida Elizabeth Coppinger Maxey on Dec. 7, 1927 in Cortez. She attended schools here and graduated from Calkins High School. Owna’s mother and father operated the local theater for many years.
Owna married Lawrence A. Daughetee on Nov. 25, 1945 in Aztec, N.M. He passed away on Feb. 22, 1991. She was married to Howard Junior Hebel on Jan. 9, 1954 in Aztec. He passed away in January of 1993.
She worked for Southwest Memorial Hospital for several years, and at the Arrow Motel and the Ute Cafe.
Owna enjoyed watching westerns and working her yard, fishing and being outdoors.
She is survived by her sons, Roy Lee Daughetee of Lake Havasau, Ariz.; Jesse Owen Daughetee of Edgewood, N.M.; and Rocky Don (Mary Ann) Hebel of Lakewood, Colo.; daughters, Patricia Ann Roe of Calhan, Colo.; Juna Louise Hebel of Cortez; and Vickie Jo Hebel of Westminster, Colo.; her brother, Kenneth J. Maxey of Cortez; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, former husbands, sisters, Mary Watson and Coleen Crouse, and a brother, Thomas E. Maxey.
At her request, no services are planned and cremation has been arranged. Cortez Four Corners Funeral Chapel, Hale and Gerken Funeral Directors are serving the family.
