John Ellis Cammack
John Ellis Cammack, 74, of Cortez, passed away in Albuquerque, N.M., at the New Mexico Heart Institute on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000. Private family memorial services will be held.
Mr. Cammack was born in Pittsburg, Pa., on Jan. 19, 1925, to John Ellis Cammack and Grace (Evans) Cammack.
John married Dorothy Elaine Johannes in Hubbard, Ohio, on July 29, 1945. They had celebrated 54 years of marriage together.
Surviving John are his wife, Dorothy Cammack, of Cortez; his children and their spouses, Darlene and Don Denison, of Cortez; Dale and Barbara Cammack, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Diane and Cliff Wagoner, also of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, and six grandchildren.
Arrangements are being made through the Ertel Funeral Home.
Willie Edward 'Bill' Hamilton
Graveside services for Willie Edward "Bill" Hamilton will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the Summit Ridge Cemetery
beginning at 3:30 p.m. Elder Cordell Uptain will be officiating.
Bill was born in St. Claire County, Mo., on Jan. 20, 1910, the son of Grover Francis Hamilton and Grace (Kirkpatrick) Hamilton. He died at the Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000. He was 89 years old.
Moving to Montezuma County in 1927, Bill dedicated his life to farming.
He is survived by his nephew and his wife, Oscar and Barbara Hamilton, of Dolores, Colo.; two nieces and their husbands, Maribeth and Melvin Hicks, of Cortez, and Gloria and Jerry Hall, of Dolores; great-niece, Kendall Allen, of Dolores; great-nephews, Brent Hamilton, of Dolores, and Rusty Hamilton, of Aztec, N.M.; two great great-nieces, Calyn Allen, of Dolores, and Rayla Hamilton, of Aztec, N.M.; and four great great-nephews, Darmaun Hamilton and Chris Hamilton, both of Aztec, N.M., Stetson Hamilton and Tel Hamilton, both of Dolores.
Services will be under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
Greg Allen Morris
Funeral services for Greg Allen Morris, 38, of Cortez, will be held Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Dan Rhodes of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Cremation is to follow.
Greg was born June 26, 1961, in Phoenix, Ariz., the son of Allen Raymond Morris and Ruth Louise (Johnson) Morris. He died Tues., Jan. 11, 2000, at his home in Cortez.
While serving his country in the Navy, Greg earned his GED. Greg leaves behind to mourn his death his mother, Ruth Morris, of Cortez; two sisters and their husbands, Nancy Lou and Will Kroener, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Susan Beth and Gary Porlier, of Enumclaw, Wash.; a nephew, Michael Ian Porlier of Enumclaw, Wash.; a niece, Debra Dawn Bratrsovsky, of Fort Morgan, Colo.; a grand-niece, Rachel Whacker, of Fort Morgan, Colo., and a grand-nephew, Matthew Bratrsovsky, also of Fort Morgan, Colo.
Ertel Funeral Home will be conducting the services.
Louie V. Nelson
Louie V. Nelson, a Dolores resident, passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999 in Wichita, Kans. He was 63 years of age.
Services will take place 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000 at the Cortez Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1304 E. Empire. Adrian Van Nieuwal will officiate.
Mr. Nelson was a house painter. He enjoyed fishing, reading and cooking, and particularly loved cooking shows on television.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Nelson of Dolores.; sons Paul Nelson and wife, Lucy, of Los Lunas, N.M.; and Mike O. Nelson of Dolores; his mother, Sylvia Nelson of Wichita; and a brother, Stewart Nelson of Lebanon, Mo.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shemeka and her husband, Ramon, Val Jr., Jennifer, Adrian, and Chantell Nelson; one great-grandchild, Isaac; his aunt, Ruth; uncles Vic of Dolores and George of Grand Junction; nephew, Robert Nelson of Derby, Kans.; niece Barbara Main of Wichita; father-in-law, Jerry Williams; several sisters-in-law and cousins.
Arrangements were handled by Jack L. Webster, Funeral Director, Cochran Mortuary, Wichita, Kans.
Nancy Kathleen Houghton
Graveside interment services will be held for Nancy Kathleen Houghton, 63, of Cortez, on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the Summit Ridge Cemetery
beginning at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Houghton passed away at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colo., on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000. She was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 18, 1936, the daughter of Daniel F. Herron and Bertha M. (Lewis) Herron.
Nancy had worked as a pharmacist in this area for many years. She also held membership in the Ute Mountain Gem and Mineral Society.
Surviving Nancy are two stepsons and their wives, John and Donna Houghton, of Oregon, and Scott and Frances Houghton, of Colorado; her stepmother, Helen Herron, of Missouri; and five grandchildren, John Houghton Jr., Trevor Houghton, Jacob Houghton, Annie Houghton, and Scott Houghton Jr.
Nancy's husband, George Robert Houghton, preceded her in death in 1993.
Ertel Funeral Home is in charge of the services.
Lillian May Harr
Lillian May Harr, longtime resident of Cortez, passed away Jan. 8, 2000 at Southwest Memorial Hospital. She was 88 years old.
Memorial services will take place 11 a.m., Jan. 11, at the First Southern Baptist Church of Cortez.
Cortez Four Corners Funeral Chapel, Hale and Gerken Funeral Directors are serving the family.
Melanie Sue Sexton
Graveside services for Melanie Sue Sexton will be held Thursday, Jan 13, 2000, at the Cortez Cemetery
beginning at 10 a.m.
Melanie passed away at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, S.D., on Friday, Jan. 7, 2000. She had been a resident of Lead, S.D.
Born Oct. 4, 1960, in Cortez, Melanie was the daughter of Darrell D. and Marjorie S. (Atkinson) Dennison. She graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 1979 and from Grand Junction Beauty College in 1981. On May 10, 1986, Melanie married Roy A. Sexton at Commerce City, Colo. They moved to the Black Hills in 1989.
Survivors include her husband, Roy, of Lead, S.D.; a daughter, Brittany G. Sexton, also of Lead; her parents, Darrell and Shirley Dennison, of Cortez; two sisters, Cherie Dennison, and Michelle Olsen, both of Cortez; a brother, Darrell R. Dennison, of Cortez; her maternal grandmother, Lucy Delost; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Her paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather preceded Melanie in death.
Services will be under the direction of the Ertel Funeral Home.
Etta Mae Florence 'Flossie' Hampton
Etta Mae Florence "Flossie" Hampton, a lifelong resident of Mancos, passed away at her home on Jan. 4, 2000. She was 65 years of age.
A memorial service is set for Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Mancos. Reverend Paul Wilson will officiate. The services will conclude at the church.
Etta Mae Florence Hampton was born Feb. 23, 1935, in Mancos, to Frank and Amy Flora Freeman McCarty. She grew up in Mancos, and graduated from the Mancos High School. She continued her life in Mancos as a homemaker.
‘Flossie,’ as her many friends called her, attended and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mancos. She also volunteered many hours to the Good Samaritan Thrift Store over the past six to seven years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert F. and Maureen (Brosnan) Hampton, of Mancos; cousins Pete and Patricia Stevenson of Mancos; second cousins Mark and Sean Stevenson, also of Mancos, and many, many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.

Patricia Ann Kinne
Patricia Ann Kinne, age 61, of Dove Creek, passed away on Dec. 30, 1999, in Little Rock, Ark. Pat had battled bone cancer for the past 21 months and was receiving treatment at the UAMS Medical center at the time of her death.
Pat was born in Madrid, Iowa on Oct. 11, 1938. She married Everett Kinne on May 29, 1954.
Pat resided in Woodward, Iowa, for 48 years, raising a family of seven, before moving to Colorado in 1996. Everett and Pat celebrated their 45th wedding on May 29, 1999.
Pat was preceded in death by her father, Alan Mougin and her baby sister, Linda Jean Mougin, both of Woodward, Iowa.
She is survived by her mother, Hilda Mougin of Dove Creek; her husband, Everett Kinne of Dove Creek; her children, Vicki Biondi of Chandalar Lake, Ark.; Terri Crawford of Dolores; Kalen Kinne of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; Kim Kinne of Marietta, Ga.; Juli Rogers of Monticello, Utah; Tracey Kinne of Dove Creek; and Cara Rice of Midland, Texas. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Patricia will always be remembered by her friends and family as a wonderful homemaker and hostess to all who entered her home. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother and friend.
Pat was a strong woman with a gentle spirit and kind heart. She loved all children and was adored by all who knew her for her unselfish acts of kindness. Much of her life was spent in volunteer work sharing the "good news" of the Bible and her hope of the future foretold within it. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but who also look forward to the fulfillment of Rev. 21:1-4.
Memorial services for Patricia will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cortez on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 at 1 p.m.
Ernest (Hokey) Reed Roubidoux
Ernest (Hokey) Reed Roubidoux, former resident of the Dolores area, passed away at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, on Jan. 3, 2000, at the age of 78. he was born in Cortez to Mark and Ernestine Roubidoux on Sept. 22, 1921. He died from complications of a burn accident that occurred at his homein Granbury, Texas.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Shirley, of Granbury; sons Raymond Roubidoux and his wife of Walden, Colo., and Russel and wife Carol Roubidoux of Henderson, Colo; daughters Connie and husband Larry Koch of Aurora, Colo., and Patricia and Danny Stewart of Missouri. He is also survived by brothers Raymond Roubidoux of Salt Lake City and Mark Mitchell Roubidoux of Pullman, Wash.; sisters Lilliian Roubidoux Simmons Clemonson of Dolores and Lola Roubidoux Chesnut Wright of Yuma Ariz., and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Forrest Douglas Capps
Arrangements are pending with the Ertel Funeral Home for Arriola resident, Forrest Douglas Capps.
Mr. Capps passed away at his home in Arriola on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at the age of 76. He was born June 2, 1923, in Mexia, Texas, to Lee Wesley and Bertha (Pitts) Capps.
Surviving him is his wife, Carol Lynn Capps, of the family home.
