RETIRED SGT. 1ST CLASS JOE LOUIS MARTIN

Sgt. 1st Class Martin, 61, died June 20, 2001, at a local care center. He was a truck driver. He served in the Army for more than 20 years and was a Vietnam veteran.

Sgt. 1st Class Martin was born July 4, 1939, in Greensburg, La., to Fred Martin and Mary Edna Jackson, who are deceased. He was married March 17, 1979, to Ingrid Louise Uhrig.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Michelle M.; a brother, Robert; five sisters, Dimple Martin, Katherine Martin, Ella Bogan, Mary Martin and Myrtle Dyer; and a grandson, Stephen Allen Jr.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., 634-1597. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Open Bible Baptist Church, 824 N. Union Blvd. Burial, with military honors, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver.

WILLIAM JOSEPH "BILL" MAURER JR.

Mr. Maurer, 50, a former Colorado Springs resident, died June 20, 2001, at his home in Durango after an extended battle with cancer. He was a banker with Wells Fargo.

Mr. Maurer was born Jan. 8, 1951, in Pittsburgh, to William Joseph and Gayle Maurer. He was married Sept. 24, 1983, in Colorado Springs to Denise Truitt.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Drew of Durango; a daughter, Pamela of Durango; his parents of Rochester Hills, Mich.; a brother, Jeffrey of Rochester Hills; three sisters, Michelle Sherrill-Mix of Alpena, Mich., Stephanie Rupp of Lake Orion, Mich., and Andrea Maurer, of New Hope, Pa.; and his grandmother, Eugenia Dolores Maurer of Santa Maria, Calif.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 1159 E. Third Ave., Durango. Hood Mortuary, 1261 E. Third Ave., Durango (970) 247-2312, is handling arrangements.

GARRY ALLEN "TYRONE" SUMMERS

Mr. Summers, 22, died June 18, 2001, in Colorado Springs as a result of diabetes. He was an electronic operator.

Mr. Summers was born June 30, 1978, in Colorado Springs, to Garry and Dorettie Summers.

He is survived by a son, Sean’yea; two daughters, Le’shea and Tioni; his parents; two sisters, Rashelle N. and Le’Nea C.; three half-brothers; three half-sisters; his grandparents; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 S. U.S. Highway 85/87, Fountain, 390-4906. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 331 Main St., Security. Cremation is planned.

EVA FLORENCE (CAHALAN) SPAULDING

Eva, 83, died June 17, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She was a housewife and homemaker.

Eva was born March 24, 1918, in Square Butte, Mont., to Michael and Mary Elizabeth Wagner Cahalan, who are deceased.

She is survived by three sons, W. Mark Haskew, Terrance L. Windle and Michael L. Windle; four daughters, Gail Ann Bailey, Lois Marie Bedore, Vicky L. Conquest and Laurie L. Windle; a brother, Joseph Cahalan; a sister, Vivian Crum; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon today at Blunt Mortuary, 2229 W. Colorado Ave., 634-8831. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Fairview Cemetery, 1000 S. 26th St.

SHIRLEY W. ANNEAR

Mrs. Annear, 78, died June 19, 2001, at a local care center. She was a homemaker. She served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1944.

Mrs. Annear was born May 19, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., to Jesse and Anna Rhae (Lerche) Walker, who are deceased. She was married Feb. 5, 1944, to James Annear, Army, retired.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Carolyn M. Haas; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Walker.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., 634-1597. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. Entombment will be at Shrine of Remembrance Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.

DR. BERNADINE SIEBERS DE VALOIS

Dr. De Valois, 92, died June 19, 2001, at a local care center. She was a retired ear, nose and throat surgeon and missionary for the Reformed Church in America in India for 25 years.

Dr. De Valois was born Dec. 29, 1908, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to John Siebers and Gertrude Oudbier, who are deceased. She was married Jan. 1, 1946, to Dr. J.J. De Valois, who is deceased.

She is survived by two sons, John J. Jr. and Russell L.; two daughters, Margaret F. Van Anrooy and Francine M. Schramm; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Chris and Herm; and a sister, Henriette Batts.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday with a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Springs Community Church, 7290 Lexington Drive. Burial will be at The Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Holland, Mich. Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., 634-1597, is handling arrangements.

CASEY APRICIO

Mr. Apricio, 66, died June 19, 2001, at his home in Colorado Springs. He was a local horse trainer and once worked at the Broadmoor Stables.

Mr. Apricio was born April 11, 1935, in Denver, to Encarnacion and Chonita (Norriega) Apricio, who are deceased.

He is survived by a son, Lloyd Casey of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Patti Madison of Glendale, Ariz.; two brothers, Manuel DeJesus and Johnny B., both of Colorado Springs; a sister; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Val, Big John, Big Joe, Little Joe, Lawrence and Chito; and two sisters, Pauline Schoessow and Rose Hutchison.

A memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2030 W. Colorado Ave. Burial will be private. Nolan Funeral Home, 225 N. Weber St., 632-7608, is handling arrangements.

ARLEY D. SKINNER

Mr. Skinner, 88, died June 18, 2001, in Colorado Springs. He was pastor emeritus of Vista Grande Church of God, formerly known as First Church of God.

Mr. Skinner was born Feb. 6, 1913, in Choteau, Okla., to Oliver Perry Skinner and Pearl Marie Blackwell, who are deceased. He was married Jan. 10, 1937, to Clora Rowe.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Arlene Raudenbush of Shawnee, Kan.; a brother, Melvin of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Pauline Hodges of Nowata, Okla., and Marjorie Shaw of Oakdale, Calif.; four grandchildren, Ian Skinner of San Diego, Rhonda LaGalle of Ottawa, Kan., Laurel Raudenbush of Durango and Brett Raudenbush of Austin, Texas; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lynn E.; three brothers, Ora, Floyd and Glenn; and a sister, Alta Funk.

Family graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Ave. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vista Grande Church of God, 4870 Flintridge Drive. Blunt Mortuary, 2229 W. Colorado Ave., 634-8831, is handling arrangements.

DONALD PHILLIP MIRACOLA

Mr. Miracola, 34, a Colorado Springs resident, died June 16, 2001, in Tucumcari, N.M., as the result of an auto accident. He was a plumber and served in the Air Force Reserves.

Mr. Miracola was born July 7, 1966, in Wuerzburg, Germany, to Linda and Charles Miracola. His father is deceased. He was married Dec. 19, 1987, to Rosemary Abitia.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Dominic P., Charles A. and Anthony J.; a daughter, Zeena L. Espinoza; his mother; two brothers, Tom and Bobby; three sisters, Michelle, Yvette and Roseann; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Peterson Air Force Base Chapel. Charles Finegan, New Mexico Mortuary Service, (800) 956-9995, Albuquerque, N.M., is handling arrangements.

WILLIAM ARNOLD "BILL OR BODEAN" FORBES

Mr. Forbes, 54, a Colorado Springs resident, died June 20, 2001, in Pueblo as a result of cancer. He was a brick mason and superintendent for Tri-Star Masonry in Colorado Springs. He served in the Marine Corps for two years.

Mr. Forbes was born Jan. 15, 1947, in Nantikoke, Pa., to Albert and Rita Forbes, who are deceased. He was married in 1968 to Sharon L. Hodson.

He is survived by his wife of Pueblo; a son, William A. II of Pueblo; three daughters, Tanette (Anthony) Welsh of Omaha, Neb., Katina (Donald) Braham of Germany and Tonya (Terry) Martinez of Colorado Springs; three sisters, Jean Kline, Sharon Ent and Shirley Wheeler, all of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Free Methodist Church, 717 W. 26th St., Pueblo. Inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver. Adrian Corner Garden Chapel, Pueblo, (719) 542-5912, is handling arrangements.

KATHERINE LOIS WALKER

Mrs. Walker, 87, died June 17, 2001, at her home in Manitou Springs. She was co-owner, with her late husband, of Cobweb Antiques in Old Colorado City.

Mrs. Walker was born Dec. 15, 1913, in Post Mills, Vt., to Leland and Laura (Chamberlin) Tupper, who are deceased. She was married July 12, 1939, to Wesley W. Walker, who is deceased.

She is survived by a sister, Barbara George; a niece, Paula George; a nephew, Michael George; two great-nieces; a great-nephew; and a great-great-niece. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lelia Tupper and Carolyn Davis.

No services are planned. Inurnment will be private. Blunt Mortuary, 2229 W. Colorado Ave., 634-8831, is handling arrangements.

COURTNEY "RAY" DAVENPORT

Mr. Davenport, 70, died June 16, 2001, in Colorado Springs of complications resulting from a horseback riding accident. He was former owner and operator of Bingo’s Saddle Shop and a commercial real estate broker. He served in the Army for 21 years, attaining the rank of CWO4.

Mr. Davenport was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Colorado Springs to Ernest and Anna I. (Brauer) Davenport, who are deceased. He was married Nov. 3, 1951, to Jean F. Metz.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Courtney Ray Jr.; four daughters, Cheri Ann Davenport, Cecelia Jean Chadwell, Connie May Morrow and Cynthia Marie Richardson; a sister, Dorothy Frase; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Manuel Davenport.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., 471-9900. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Swan Law Cascade Chapel. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Ave.

DOROTHY RUTH DEW

Mrs. Dew, 92, died June 17, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She was a homemaker in her own home.

Mrs. Dew was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Pentwater, Mich., to Robert and Lena (Nielson) O’Brien, who are deceased. She was married April 19, 1931, to Orville V. Dew, who is deceased.

She is survived by two sons, Robert O. of Garden City, Mich., and Kenneth V. of Grand Junction; a daughter, Lois Miller; three grandsons; and five great-granddaughters.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, 590-8922. Inurnment will be at a later date in Pentwater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Nursing Center, 7550 Assisi Heights, Colorado Springs 80919.
