MABEL MINAKER August 3, 1909 - October 14, 2004 It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden death of our beloved mother at Stonewall Hospital on October 14, 2004. Mom was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1990. Mom and Dad enjoyed many happy years farming at Rosser where their children and grandchildren spent wonderful times and shared delicious Sunday dinners. Mom leaves to mourn her daughter Beryl (Bonne) and sons, Dave (Lorraine) and Gil (Joan); her grandchildren, Laurie Tarr (Dennis) Doug Lemon (Sheila) Robyn Lemon (Paul), Wayne (Laurie), Darren (Dianne) and Angela (Mark) Minaker. Great-grandchildren, Jordan, Chelsey and Ainsley Tarr, Brehanna and Tess Lemon, Dylan and Ellen Sigurdson and Adam and Johnathon Minaker and dear friend David Burchell. She is survived by her sisters, Marion, Helen and Alice and a brother George. We are very proud of our mother's loving and forgiving nature. Her family was her life and her grandchildren dearly love their Nan. She enjoyed travelling and saw a large part of the world on her many trips and cruises. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main St. in Stonewall. Rev. Lesley Clarke will officiate. ALICE MITCHELL

ALICE NORAH MITCHELL (nee BROUSSEAU) 1917 - 2004 Peacefully on Thursday, October 14, 2004, Alice Mitchell passed away. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, her mother Anna, father Eli, and two brothers Norman and Fred. Alice was born icon in Somerset, Manitoba and spent her early years in Melville, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest of three girls in a family of five children born icon to Anna (nee Bergeron) and Eli Brousseau. The family moved to Winnipeg when Alice was a young teenager and where she completed her high school education at Notre Dame de Lourdes Convent School. In 1939, she met and married John ( Jack) Mitchell, a City of Winnipeg fireman. In 1941 her only son John Junior was born, and in 1943 John Sr. left his firefighting duties in Winnipeg and joined the RCNVR for the duration of the Second World War. Upon his return, and to his peacetime occupation, the family set up a home, but after a couple of years decided to move to Montreal, Quebec. After a couple of years in Montreal, they returned to Winnipeg and entered into a business with Alice's younger brother Norman. There followed a further joint venture into the nursing home business. After they retired, Alice and Jack travelled and bought a retirement home in Mesa, Arizona with Alice's brother Fred and his wife Blanche, where they "flocked" with the other snowbirds every winter. They also decided on condominium living, buying two. They enjoyed very much the convivial condominium lifestyle with their many friends and acquaintances. Alice will be sadly missed by her son Jay (Carole), her sisters, Elizabeth Teskey and Blanche Hilbig, and by her many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Burke and the staff at The Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home, especially the nursing staff and other caregivers of nursing station 1 for their kindness and care. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 19, at 1:00 p.m. in the Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with Father Johnson officiating. CHARLY J. NOVOTNY "CHIEF" On Friday, October 15, 2004 at Health Sciences Centre, Charly, aged 77 years, beloved husband of Emilie Novotny. Charly will be missed more that words can say by his three children, Jude (Rick), Charlie Jr. (Tannis), Monica (Derrick); and four grandchildren, Nolan, Owen, Charlotte and Bianca; as well as nephews and nieces. Charly was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Mary; brother Hank; and brother and best friend Ben. Born in Frank, AB, on July 21, 1927, Charly moved with his family to Winnipeg where they lived and farmed until 2002. Charly and Emilie enjoyed snowbirding in Arizona with Ben and Marj, meeting many new friends along their way. Dad insisted on a last road trip in October 2003 which took them to Halifax, NS where they enjoyed three months with Monica, Derrick and the girls. They returned home via the US and enjoyed a short stay in Florida. Their last trip was to Victoria, BC in April 2004 with Lil and Bob and enjoyed the warmth, greenery and beautiful flowers. "Chief" was a loving and dedicated husband, father, deda, uncle and friend, with a wonderful sense of humour, mischievous smile and passion for life. He will be sadly missed by all. At Charly's request no service will be held. A private gathering will take place at Christmas. We would like to thank family and friends for their support during this difficult time. A special thank you to Dr. Werier, Dr. L. Brandis, Lori and staff at CancerCare - MacCharles Unit, Jason RMT, Ken and Ted at OmniCare, Health Sciences Centre Emergency and D4 doctors and staff. CHRISTOPHER "COLE" PLASESKI Peacefully, after a courageous battle with leukemia, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Cole on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre on the GD6 Ward at the age of 21 years of Oakbank, MB. Remaining to forever cherish Cole's memory are his parents, Chris and Cheryl; sister Caylie; brother Cody; grandparents Roy and Lorna Greer and Joe and Minnie Plaseski as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Cole loved to meet new people and make friends. He loved to skateboard, snowboard, fish, camp and play his guitar. Cole was looking forward to photography classes and building a cabin with his family. On Tuesday, October 19 at 1:00 p.m. Cole's funeral service will be held in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive with Rev. Dawn Ballantine-Dickson officiating. CARL ALBERT PORATH September 30, 1922 - October 15, 2004 Surrounded by his family Carl Porath peacefully passed away Friday after a brief and sudden illness. Carl, the fourth of twelve, grew up around Piney, MB. He served overseas in the Second World War. Shortly after his return from service, Carl met and married the love of his life, Clementine, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Dad worked at the Canadian National Railway until his retirement. Throughout his life, Dad pursued his love of carpentry and took great pleasure in helping family, friends and neighbours. He also enjoyed the outdoors with his family at West Hawk Lake, camping, fishing and boating. Dad was a gentle, hardworking man who possessed a strength of body and spirit with a determination to provide for his family, We are truly thankful for our life together. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Esther; his brother Neil and sister Kae. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Clementine; children, Leonard (Jackey), Carol (Dale), Miles (Janelle) and Cathy (Rob); grandchildren, Sharon, Carie, Allison, Neil and Ryan; great-granddaughter Sydney; brothers, Alvin, Garry and Lars; and sisters Bertha, Donna, Doris, Eileen, Grace and Janice. We know that, while you have passed from this life, you are with the Lord, remaining forever in our hearts. We love you dearly and will miss you greatly, husband, dad, grandpa, brother.
