in Charleswood on December 15, 1921. Upon graduating from school, she was employed by MacDonald Aircraft in Winnipeg and was the first secretary-manager of the Charleswood Credit Union. In 1944 she joined the Royal Canadian Navy and was stationed in Halifax and Ottawa. Mom dedicated her life to her family, and presided over a home that housed a family business which saw literally hundreds of people set foot in it's kitchen over a span of 50 years. In the mid 1960s Helen found a passion. Golf! NORMA NAULT
September 28, 2004
NORMA NAULT (SELLGREN) On Friday afternoon, September 24, 2004, "Nan" Norma, an amazing and irreplaceable woman, quietly slipped away from her family to be joyously welcomed into Heaven. It is with great difficulty we announce the passing of a great card shark and game player. Every time we played Hand and Foot with Nan, inevitably within the first three hands she would taunt us with, "I can go OUT, you know." Sadly, in this last round with cancer, our much loved mother did go out early. Mom will be terribly missed by Fred, her only husband of 50 years; her lovely daughters, Michelle, Melanie and Janelle; her sweet-sons-in-law, Chuck, Brent and Kevin; her fantastic grandchildren, Elias, Jesse, Alla and Brody; her sisters, Evelyn and Mildred; and her brother Bill. Norma was predeceased by her parents Hjalmer and Hjulda; her brothers, Sanford and Norman; and her sisters, Eva, Betty and Helen. Norma was born
in Inwood, MB, on August 14, 1930, into a large, happy Swedish family. When Mom was just 11, her mother died suddenly, forcing our great strapping Swede of a Grandpa to raise their rambunctious brood on his own. After graduating Normal School at 16, Norma taught in a one-room schoolhouse with children of all ages, including cocky farm boys taller and older than herself. Ready for a new adventure, Mom moved to the big city of Winnipeg. She lived in a rooming house and worked for Watkins. It just so happened that our dad's brother David and his wife Ruth lived at the same rooming house as Mom. Ruth liked Mom so much that she orchestrated an "innocent" meeting between Mom and Dad. To make Ruth happy, Dad asked Mom out. They fell in love and were married three years later on June 26, 1954. Through the years Mom continuously worked at the most important business of her life . . . . relationships - maintaining old, building new cherishing all in between - she did this well and daily. We all remember those lengthy telephone conversations, luncheons, letters, visits, greeting cards and care packages, handcrafted keepsakes that we were blessed with. Mom was also an avid soap opera watcher, maniacal Bomber fan, voracious reader, ferocious card player, feverish knitter and a marginal bowler. The family would like to extend our warmest gratitude to all of our friends and relatives who supported Norma and her family during her battle with cancer. We also wish to thank the doctors, staff and volunteer drivers at CancerCare MB for helping Mom get through her appointments comfortably and safely. We thank the staff on N3West at Concordia Hospital, especially Donna Z. and sweet little Gertrude for making Mom comfortable in her final days. Funeral service and luncheon will be held on Friday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. The interment will be in the Inwood MB Cemetery at approximately 3:00 p.m. with a coffee reception at the Lutheran Church hall. In keeping with our mom's spirit of giving, we ask in lieu of flowers that donations be made to CancerCare MB or World Vision, CA. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM 220 Hespeler Ave. at Henderson Hwy. 668-3151

She participated in the More or Less 60 Club of the Elk Lake Baptist Church and most enjoyed her Friday outings with her former work friends. Mother always enjoyed family gatherings with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Trottershaw, the staff of Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, Home Care, and her many friends who supported her during her illness. Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me, I took his hand when I heard Him call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with a remembered joy, A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life has been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. God wanted me now, He set me free.
