GUDRUN TOMES Peacefully, and surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 30, 2004 at the Middlechurch Nursing Home. Gudrun Tomes, aged 95, formerly of St. James, passed away. Runa was predeceased by her husband Daniel; parents, Julius and Gudrun; three brothers, Barney, Erikur, Hallie; and three sisters, Jona, Jean and Mary. Runa is survived by her loving children, Shirley Smith (Norman) of East Selkirk, Donna Buchanan (Barrie) of Lacombe, AB and John (Linda) of Headingley. Ten grandchildren
, Wayne, Wendy (Tony), Wanda (Brian), Glenn (Aline), Sean, Trevor, Dean, Christopher (Kiera), Jason, and Amanda. Nine great-grandchildren, Carley, Michelle, Joshua, Anthony, Kira, Darian, Aiden, Alexis and Malcolm. Runa was born
in Coldsprings, MB and spent her early years in Lundar, MB. She moved to Winnipeg at the young age of 17 to find work. It was here that Mother met Dad at the tender age of 20 and one year later they married and lived and loved together for 56 years. Mom had many interests during her life participating in bowling, curling, and card clubs. Her greatest joy was in opening her home to family and friends alike. You could always count on a good time and good food at Runa's. Mother especially enjoyed spending time with her children and in later years with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "Grandma, our hearts are overflowing with love for you. We are blessed with all of the wonderful memories. We will miss your loving heart, warm touches and beautiful smile. We take comfort and are at peace knowing you are now with your "Danny Boy". Just remember "It will be all right dear". We would like to especially thank all of the wonderful people at Middlechurch Home for the love, kindness and care they have shown to our mother. ANN DUNCAN CAMPBELL VANCE (nee LUMSDEN) 1912 - 2004 Ann quietly passed away at the age of 92 on September 1, at The Fred Douglas Lodge. She went to her final sleep peacefully. She is survived by her son Earl (Susan) and daughter Diana (Bob Ward) and the grandchildren, Liza Vance, Cheryl (Matt) Brough, Kathy Ward (Adam Scott), James Ward and his daughter Kelly Dyke (great-granddaughter) and her sister Violet (Vi) Ketcheson of Detroit, MI. She is predeceased by her husband Jack in 2003; brothers, Alex, Bill, George and Reg and by sisters, Isabel, Winnie and Edna. Ann was born
on March 15, 1912 just outside of Dugald, MB. Over a period of years until the age of 13 she lived with various families, finally ending up with Jim and Minnie Taylor in Winnipeg. Ann met Jack Vance and after a long courtship was married on September 13, 1941. From 1941 to 1943 Ann and Jack lived in Sydney, NS where their daughter Diana was born. Ann worked for a number of years in the box making industry eventually ending up at Western Paper Box where she was considered to be a master box maker. In 1947, Jack and Ann moved into Weston, where they lived until 1975. She loved her grandchildren very much and was a caring Gramma, not only to her own grandchildren but also to a number of others who knew her as Gramma Vance. With good friends Ralph and Louise Wade, Ann and Jack spent many enjoyable occasions at Ponemah Beach as well as travelling across Canada and the United States. She also loved to travel with her daughter Diana and her family travelling to California and the East Coast of Canada with them. Her biggest love was just to see and be near all her grandchildren as much as she possibly could. She loved to read, knit and play Scrabble. Even at the age of 92, she could still play a mean game of cards. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Willow Unit at Fred Douglas Lodge for the exceptional care, respect and kindness provided to Ann throughout her stay on the unit, in particular Lorraine. A memorial service will held on Wednesday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 251 Bannerman Ave. at Charles Street, the Rev. Doug Martindale presiding. JURIJ (GEORGE) ZALEC Suddenly on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, Jurij (George) Zalec passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital with his loving wife Maria by his side. George will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 37 years Maria; his daughter Alexandra of Calgary and her husband Theo Titopoulos. He is also survived by sister Ana Ribar of Slovenia. He was predeceased by his parents, Franc and Ana; brothers, Leopold, Franc, Joe and sister Maria. George was born
on December 11, 1929 in Dalnje Njive by Vinica, Slovenia. He came to Canada in 1958 and settled in Winnipeg. George was an avid handyman who loved to spend hours at his workbench. He was strong in body and spirit and worked hard to provide a wonderful life for his family. His generous, kind nature and tender heart made an impact on all who knew him. He was always quick with a witty word and his joyous laughter was infectious. Words cannot express how much you'll be missed "tati". NADIA ZIMMER Peacefully on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at the Portage District General Hospital, Nadia Zimmer of Portage la Prairie, beloved wife of Stan Zimmer passed away at the age of 55 years. CYRILLE "BARNEY" BARNABE Peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2004, Barney passed away in his sleep. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years Agathe (Therrien). Besides Agathe, Dad is survived by four children, thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild - Annette and Dwight Smith: Patrick, (Carman, MB), Michelle, Jean Pierre and Nicole (Winnipeg); Cyrille Junior and Stacey: Joel, Febe and Artemis, Justin (deceased 1977), Jared, Brett, and Heather of Port Coquitlam B.C.; Pierre and Marie: Nathalie, Melanie and Chantale (Winnipeg); Guy and Susan: Melissa (Winnipeg) and Colette (Moose Jaw, Sask.) Dad is also survived by his 7 sisters: Ida Saurette (Airdrie, AB), Irene Butra, (Winnipeg, MB), Eva and Noel Bourbonniere, (Ste. Rose Du Lac, MB), Therese and Jacques Guindon, Chomedey, (Laval, PQ), Marguerite and Bill McCaulley, (Calgary, AB), Marie and Henri Paul Boulianne, (Chicoutimi, PQ), Cecile and Willie Morris, (Winnipeg, MB); one brother: Jean-Louis Barnabe, (Airdrie, AB) and one sister-in-law Eileen Barnabe, (Vancouver, B.C). He is also survived by Agathe's sister-in-law Lil Therrien as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Dad was predeceased by his parents Majorique and Marie Louise, one brother Eugene, grandson Justin, as well as Agathe's parents, her four brothers and two sisters. Dad retired as a locomotive engineer with the CNR in 1985 after 37 years of dedicated service. Mom and Dad enjoyed their retirement years together with trips visiting children and grandchildren and going to Grand Forks. Dad spent many hours in the basement, developing his artistic talent. Everyone enjoyed and treasured receiving one of his many creations. Dad was always available to help, drive and fix things for all those around him, his children, grandchildren, family and friends. His generous spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was friendly even though he was a man of few words. He always had a smile and a "allo" for all the many people that he met every day. THEODORE (TED) CHARLES BRADFORD passed away suddenly at the St. Boniface Hospital on Thursday September 2, 2004 at the age of 75 years. Ted was predeceased by his son Ronny, sister Joye Meneer, brother Stewart Bradford and parents Jack and Cora Bradford. Ted is survived by his wife Rheta, son Dr. James Bradford (Sandi) of Springfield, MO, daughters Linda (Ken) Walker of Vancouver BC, Brenda (Todd) Marshall of Smithtown NY, Joanne (Ralph) Hoehne of Bradenton FL, brother Jack Bradford of Toronto ON, grandchildren Meredith and Angeline Bradford, Garrett, Devin and Keegan Walker, Kelsie and Taylor Marshall, Brett, Ashton, Connor and Logan Hoehne. Extended family members Sandy (Erik) Luczak and daughter Bonnie (Andrew) Swaby. Ted worked for the Canadian National Railway as both an operator and train dispatcher. He was later hired by the Watkins Company as a salesman and trainer, including three years in Winona, Minnesota at the company headquarters. For the past 30 years Ted has been the founder, President and C.E.O. of Variclean Maid Services in Winnipeg, MB. During that time he was an exceptionally active volunteer in the church and community. He was a choir director, Sunday School Superintendent, Church Board Member, fund raiser, small group leader, Alpha Table leader, mentor, Men's Ministry Director for the Manitoba Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, WHY Encounter Chairman, and Director of the Billy Graham Telephone Centre in Winnipeg, MB. Ted was a phenomenal husband, father and grandfather whose example, influence and love deeply impacted every member of his family, church, business, staff and community. JOHN BRUCKSHAW 1926 - 2004 With sadness, we announce the passing of John Bruckshaw at his home at the age of 78 years. He is deeply mourned by his daughter Wendy Duncan (David); his son Peter Bruckshaw (Allison); John's former wife, Barbara Kaleta; and five grandchildren, Jocelyn and Rachel Duncan, Jon, Tomas and Elinor Bruckshaw; his sister Gladys; and his nieces and nephews in England. He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Tom. John was born
in Manchester, England on January 12, 1926, the third child of John and Edith Bruckshaw. He excelled in soccer and boxing and was proud that he had been invited to be a professional boxer, but ultimately declined. He secured a technical college degree in electrical engineering in England. In 1955 he moved with his wife and daughter, Wendy, to Canada. He was directed by immigration authorities to take up residence with his young family in a cold windswept place called Winnipeg and happily remained there the rest of his life. John worked with the Cyclotron Division of the Department of Physics at the University of Manitoba; after 25 years of service he retired in 1986. John enjoyed pouring over his books and encyclopedia, making notes, satisfying his life-long interest in a broad range of subjects. He instilled in his children a similar thirst for knowledge and the importance of a good education. Cremation and an interment service, attended by family, has taken place.

MARY CHUDLEY (nee DAMAN) 1919 - 2004 Surrounded by her family, Mary passed peacefully and with dignity from this world into the next on Saturday, August 28 at Jocelyn House. Mary is survived by her three step-children, Cheryl Ann Fiorentino (Onofrio), Albert Edward (Jennifer) Chudley, and Raymond Kevin (Laurie) Chudley. She also leaves to mourn her grandchildren, Jon Paul (Tara) Fiorentino, Jamie (Gigi) Fiorentino, Christopher (Dana) Chudley, Peter (Christine) Chudley, Sarah (Arnaud) Guillemard, Natasha Chudley, David Chudley, Blaire Chudley, Braden Chudley and Blake Chudley; her great-grandchildren, Nadia, Lilly, Justin, Rylen, Landen, Ethan, Alexandre and Annlise; her brother-in-law Mel Burnside; her nieces and nephew, Cheryl (John) Wiens, Lorraine (Don) Nishio and Don (Joanne) Burnside; her great-nephews, Derek, Mark, Michael and Carlos; and numerous cousins. Mary was predeceased by her husband Albert Edward Jr. (Ab), in 1969; by her parents, Johannes Frederichs and Sien Daman; by her brother Marinas John and her sister Dean. Mary was born
on December 19, 1919 and was raised in Winnipeg. She worked in the mail order department of Eaton's for many years, retiring in 1968. She married Ab on September 28, 1968 and was widowed on February 12, 1969. She delighted in her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-nephews. Mary always remembered a birthday or anniversary. In her earlier years she enjoyed 5-pin bowling (where she met Ab) and spent many restful weekends and summers in the family cottage at Brereton Lake. Mom was a fabulous knitter and we all proudly wore the fruits of her labour. Mary was a member of the Confidence Rebekah Lodge No. 40 I.O.O.F. The family wishes to express their thanks for the excellent care and comfort provided by Dr. Dennis Caners and staff, the nurses and staff of 3 East at Concordia Hospital, and the doctors, nurses and staff at Jocelyn House. CECILE ANNE COE (nee BRUNET) On August 13, 2004 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, wife of the late Wallace Elwood Coe and daughter of the late Godias Brunet and Alice Jutras, passed away at the age of 89 years. Cecile graduated from the St. Boniface School of Nursing in 1937 and moved to he U.S.A. shortly after, to pursue her nursing career. Cecile will be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Paul Brunet, (Marie Therese), Pierre Brunet (Aline), Henri Brunet; her sisters, Marthe Girouard, Berthe Brunet, Jeanne Brunet and sister-in-law, Therese Brunet, and many nieces and nephews. Cecile was predeceased by her husband; parents; sisters, Marguerite, Alice; brother Denys; sister-in-law Jeanne d'Arc Brunet (Henri); and brother-in-law Lorenzo Girouard (Marthe). GERARD "GERRY" JOSEPH DONALD DORGE November 27, 1962- August 31, 2004 "Every dark cloud has a silver lining." Surrounded by his loving family, Gerry's soul was set free to soar with the Angels to be reunited with his Dad. Deeply loved and always to be remembered by his loving wife Jacqueline ("Jacquie," nee Bohemier); and his No. 1 son Stephane. Gerry's memory will be forever cherished by his mother Ida (nee Cournoyer); his eight siblings and their families: Joe (Emilie Catellier), Paulette Gaudry (Jean), Aline Boulet (Albert), Leanne, Johanne Desmarais (Gerry), Jean-Guy, Michel (Bruce Jardine) and Lyse Meunier (Paul). His legacy will also live on in his nieces and nephews: Patrick, Natalie, Roxanne, Carole and Richard Dorge; Danielle (Jordan Newman), Michelle, Ginette and Lisa Gaudry; Nicole, Melanie, Julie and David Boulet; Chantal and Sylvie Desmarais. His memory will be treasured by the Bohemier family: mother-in-law Claire (nee Champagne), Larry (Huguette Dube), Colette (Maurice Zastre) and their children, Daniel and Andree Bohemier and Michael Zastre. He will also be missed by many relatives, friends, co-workers, business associates and his faithful canine "Cinder." He was predeceased by his dad Telesphore "Ted" (August 1978); his grandparents Edphat and Egidia Dorge (nee Campeau), Eugene and Antoinette Cournoyer (nee Manaigre); and his father-in-law Chuck Bohemier (July 2002). Gerry was the youngest boy of nine children. His love for open spaces and nature began early in life, living in Ste. Agathe. He adapted well, leaving the farm for the city life in Windsor Park. He made many good friends while attending Ecole Lacerte, Ecole Guyot and College de St. Boniface. At the 1981 graduation after-party at Albert Beach, Gerry found his true love in Jacquie. They were married on May 12, 1984. Gerry was overjoyed to become a father in 1985. The love for his young son fuelled his first fight with cancer in 1987 to 1988. He survived, despite the odds, to see his son grow up and graduate. He was the BEST Dad. He held various jobs, discovering he was a natural in sales. His career started at Coast Wholesale Appliances, later at Midland Appliance World (yes, he's the handsome salesman in the commercial)! He was the recipient of many "Supplier Sales Achievement Awards" via the M.H.B.A. His honesty and integrity made him well liked and respected in the building industry. But Gerry's proudest accomplishment was when his entrepreneurial spirit guided him to start his own business, "Getting Wired Closet Company." He so enjoyed his work and meeting people - a dream fulfilled! Gerry loved playing hockey, baseball ("Yeah, Whatever!"), floor hockey, watersports, and supported his Bombers. He was an awesome and competitive athlete. His love of the outdoors was as great: sunsets at Otter Falls, the loons at Rushing River, August long with the family at Lee River - always providing us with the best campfire "flamage" you've ever seen! Gerry was the epitome of the strong, silent type. He was a thoughtful observer who listened. When he did "share," it was the real deal and often with very sound advice. He was very dependable, kind and always willing to lend a helping hand. But those "big blues" couldn't hide the inner mischief. Many a prank, or surprise were care of the "Master." The smile on his face said it all - it was better to give than to receive! Gerry battled the recurrence of his disease with admirable fortitude. His suffering was lengthy, immense and without complaint. He was the Ultimate Warrior and an inspiration to us all. We are extremely grateful to the many friends, acquaintances, even strangers who prayed for Gerry and his family and provided numerous acts of kindness and support over the years. Equally grateful to all of the doctors, surgeons (Dr. L. Klotz and Dr. Miller at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto), nurses, radiotherapy technicians, pharmacists and hospital staff of St. Boniface CancerCare and Riverview who were involved in Gerry's determined battle. Special thanks to Dr. Ralph Wong and nurse Kathy, nurse Bonnie and staff of 5B, Dr. Cooke and staff, Dr. Paul Daeninck and nurse Tracy, Dr. Josh Shadd, Dr. Leah MacDonald, Bunty Anderson, the staff of the Palliative Care Home Program: Sandy and Sarah; nurses Marie and Carrie, and the "Angels" on the 8th floor Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface. EVELYN ANNE EVANS (nee HILL) Sadly, on Monday, August 30, 2004, Evelyn passed away peacefully after a brief illness, at Charleswood Care Centre at the young age of 72 years, with her son Jeff and Carrie at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Charles "Charlie" Evans; special friend Harold Johnson; sisters, Rose and Shirley; and her brother Albert. She is survived by sister Sylvia Halldorson of Edmonton; daughter Joyce Songer of British Columbia; sons, James Taylor of Alberta and Jeff Boxshall (Carrie) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Michelle McCullough of British Columbia, Jesse Shields of Alberta, Jared and Amanda Boxshall and Owen Kiss of Winnipeg; great-grandson Evan Schmidt of British Columbia; and numerous other family and friends. Mom enjoyed life to the fullest with her many trips to casinos, and playing Bingo. Cooking for her family and friends would always put a smile on her face and a jump in her step. Mom would always be there to listen, support and understand through good and bad times. Mom, we all miss you dearly and love you very much. We will miss your bright smile and big heart.
