STELLA JOBA (LADOSKI) On August 25, 2004, Stella passed away peacefully at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Tony in 1989; her brothers, Walter (Jean) and James (Olive); sister Emily (Gus) Romaniuk and nephews, Walter and Harry. Stella leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Lorraine (Terry) Hercus; granddaughter Aileen (Ralph) George; dear great-grandchildren, Lianne, Vanessa and Michael; granddaughter Tammy (John) O'Neill; niece Eleanor Kullberg; nephews, Jim and Lawrence Romaniuk, Jim Ladoski and their families. The Joba families, many nieces and nephews including Nellie, Helen, Irene, John, Adam and their families. Born to Stephan and Rosalia Ladoski January 23, 1913 in Ledwyn, MB, Stella attended school there and at Holy Ghost School in Winnipeg. In 1932 she and Tony were married. They settled in Bissett, MB, where they enjoyed their early life together. In 1956 they again pioneered in Elliot Lake, ON, retiring to live in Winnipeg in 1973 to be near their family. Stella was exceptionally kind hearted and generous. She was renowned for her cooking, famous for her Christmas puddings and warm hospitality. She and Tony enjoyed playing bingo, dancing and attending auction sales. Stella had a talent for crocheting and quilting, embroidery and needlework and had a magic way with african violets and giant ferns. She had a wide circle of friends with whom she corresponded faithfully as long as she was able. The family would like to thank the special people who lovingly cared for her in her eight and one half years at Middlechurch Home. CONDREN REX KEATINGE August 7, 1947 to August 27, 2004 Con passed away suddenly at his residence in Grand Marais, MB. He was predeceased by his father Rex in February 2002. He is survived by his mother Myra; Valerie; Aunt Eileen and Uncle Jim Miller; cousins, Kevin (Karen) with son Craig, and Glenn. Con was born icon and raised in St. James and began his career with the North Kildonan Police Department in December 1966. It was during those years that the N.K. Police Chief proclaimed that Rex was a more appropriate name for a police officer, so Con became known to the members of the Department as Rex. Following amalgamation of the Police Departments, Rex served in the Robbery and Homicide Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Traffic Division of the Winnipeg Police Service. He was also involved in several high profile joint operations with the RCMP. He was the recipient of the Police Exemplary Service Medal in 1988 and retired in 1994 at the rank of Staff Sargent. Rex was held in high regard by many members of the Judiciary and Legal System, a relationship he cherished. Following his retirement, Rex worked for the TD Bank Security Office. In 1997, he moved to Grand Marais to be near the beach he enjoyed so much as a child. Shortly after his move, he began working for the Department of Justice, Province of Manitoba. At the time of his passing, Rex was also co-owner of the Grand Sands Motor Inn. Rex had many true and loyal friends whose companionship he loved. JAMISON ALEXANDER LISTER June 23, 1986 - August 29, 2004 On August 29, 2004, Jamison Lister our beloved son and brother was tragically taken away from his family in an automobile accident. Left to mourn his passing is his father Jeff, mother Glory, brother Jonathan and sister Janelle. He is also survived by his nana Gloria Goodine; his grandma and papa, Gwen and Peter Lister; his aunt and uncle, Leone and Bob Rondeau; and cousin Kieran; and aunt Linda Plexman; and cousins, Carrie Lynne and Whitney. Jamison was our sunshine boy who loved life and was always smiling. He attended school at Kildonan East Collegiate and had many friends in the area. Jamison played baseball for a number of years until he discovered his love of skateboarding. His family is grateful for the staff at the Edge Skate Park who introduced Jamison to the Lord. Our family will never be the same without him and we will miss him each and every day of our lives. SISTER RITA MAUREEN, SNJM (HELEN REDMOND) At St. Boniface Hospital on August 29, 2004, Sister Rita Maureen died as she had lived, radiating faith and love. Sister had spent the last eight years of her life in the infirmary of the Holy Names Sisters at the Residence Jesus-Marie in Saint Boniface and the last month at the Tache Centre. Born in Moose Jaw, SK, in 1914 to Augustine and Edith Redmond, Helen soon moved with her parents and only sibling Elizabeth (Betty) to Winnipeg. Here she entered St. Mary's Academy as a kindergarten and resident student. After receiving her BA from St. Mary's Academy College in 1935, she entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of the Holy Names in Outremont and committed herself definitively as a Holy Names Sister in 1942. Sister Rita Maureen served in several schools in Manitoba but most of her teaching years were spent at St. Mary's Academy. Here she made an important contribution to the physics and chemistry departments and a lasting legacy to the sports program. Mourning her passing are her Holy Names Sisters and the devoted infirmary staff of her convent. She will also be missed by her many, many former students from St. Mary's, now scattered far and wide, who have never forgotten her excellence as an educator and her heartfelt care for each of them. She was predeceased by her father who died when she was 11; her mother who passed away in 1948; and her beloved sister Betty whom she lost in 1984. In lieu of flowers, friends of Sister Rita Maureen, who so wish, may make a donation to the Sister Rita Maureen Bursary Fund of St. Mary's Academy, 550 Welington Cres., Winnipeg, MB R3M 0C1. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mary Pachal; youngest brother Harvey in 2001; and brother Lenard; and sister Gladys in childhood. Lawrence was born icon on August 10, 1926 in Kipling, SK. He went to school in both Kipling and Whitewood before the family moved to Winnipeg in 1941. He was employed with Jeanne's Bakery for 50 years, and retired in 1991. The family wishes to thank Dr. K. Saunders, the Cardiology Depts. of St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, the WFPS, and a very special thanks to the ICU staff of Seven Oaks Hospital. HOLGER HENRY PEDERSEN On Sunday, August 29, 2004, at the Villa in Ste. Anne's, Holger died as he lived, simply and peacefully. He leaves to mourn his dear friends, Ellen and Louise and their families. Holger was born icon on February 1, 1897 in Denmark. He immigrated to Canada as a young man in 1923. He settled in Ross where he farmed until he moved to Richer with Yvette Godard, his caregiver, in 1997. His final years were spent at Villa Youville in Ste. Anne's from 2000 until his death. Holger epitomized the meaning of friendship. He especially connected with children and animals. He was generous on a large scale with donations of money to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre and on a smaller scale of rabbits to children. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Sincere thanks are extended to Yvette Godard, Sister Rioux and all the employees of Ward D at the Villa Youville for the heartwarming care that was afforded to our friend in his final years. HELEN PHILLIP In the early hours of August 28, 2004, our beloved mother, Helen Phillip, passed away at the Concordia General Hospital, at the age of 90 years. Helen will be sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Mona Phillip of Winnipeg; daughter Barbara Gail Leblanc and grandson John Leblanc of Edmonton, AB. She was predeceased by her parents, Nikola and Barbara Noga; stepfather Hnat Yuristy; husband Walter; son-in-law Victor; brothers, John, Peter and Bill; and sisters, Annie, Nellie, Elsie and Rose. Helen was born icon in Ethelbert on February 8, 1914. She began her working life in Dauphin as a housekeeper. With the encouragement of her brother Bill, Helen moved to Winnipeg and took up hairdressing. After graduating, she worked with Bill in his shop in Elmwood until his departure to California and then with her younger sister Rose. Helen went on to operate her own salon from the family home until her retirement in 1979. It was in Winnipeg that Helen met and married her beloved husband Walter. They were married in 1940 and moved to Victoria, BC upon his enlistment in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943. After the war, they settled in Winnipeg eventually moving to Transcona in 1956 where they enjoyed many happy years together. Helen loved her home and was very proud of her yard and garden. She spent many hours in her kitchen making pickles, jams and jellies. Helen also was very accomplished at sewing, needlework and crafts. Her love for animals was unbounded and all of the family pets enjoyed her kind and tender care. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and tenants at Fred Douglas Heritage House for their care and support over the last three years and to all of the staff at the Concordia Hospital for their gentle care over the last few months. Your many kind deeds, words and gestures were so very appreciated and will not be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street at 11:00 a.m. on September 1. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, memorial donations made be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, the Fred Douglas Society or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

FRIEDA SHARPE (nee JONATSCHICK) On Sunday, August 29, 2004, Frieda Sharpe, aged 81 years, passed away at the River East Personal Care Home. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Marilyn; son-in-law David Scott; grandchildren, Rob and Katherina; sister Eva Loewen; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Sharpe (Schlamp); parents, Clementine and John Jonatschick; brothers, Jack, John and Norman; sisters, Blanche, Helene Turczak, Ella Laudinsky, Betty Polczer and Lily Cox; and good friend and companion Noble Downey. Mom was born icon on March 3, 1923 and was raised in the Elmwood area. She was baptized, confirmed and attended school at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. At the early age of 13, Mom became a maid to help support her family. During the Second World War, she worked at the CPR station, at which time she also put herself through hairdressing school. She operated a number of salons including Sharpe's Beauty Salon and later built and owned Artistic Beauty Salon. Mom was a member of a number of clubs including the McCalman Seniors' Club, West End Seniors' Centre and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Eagles until rheumatoid arthritis prevented her from attending. She certainly enjoyed playing cards with her sisters, bowling, singing and bus trips to the States. But what we'll all remember most was Mom's love for dancing, even as she got older and could barely walk! In recent years Mom resided at River East Personal Care Home where the staff was wonderful at making her final years comfortable. These great people encouraged Mom to continue to indulge in one of her greatest passions: ice cream! Mom often said that no one should cry for her because she has waited long enough. Well, Mom, your wait is over. May God bless you. JOYCE MARION SMITH (nee HAWLEY) On August 29, 2004 Joyce Smith passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband Robert Webster in 1978. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Ted) Kiesman and Shelagh (Gregg) Kovacs; grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) Martin, Carmen Kiesman (Rob Buchanan), Matthew (Jennifer) Kiesman, Heather Kovacs (Luka Jambrosic) and Jill Kovacs; great-grandson Benjamin Kiesman. Joyce was born icon October 6, 1920 and grew up in Riverview. She was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg. Joyce was actively involved in Harstone United Church teaching Sunday School, Explorers and C.G.I.T. and singing in the choir. Later in life she attended Knox United Church. Joyce cherished her friends in the Ingersoll Street Koffee Klatch and enjoyed working part-time at The Bay. After retirement, she volunteered for many years in the medical library at Deer Lodge Centre. Joyce will best be remembered as a devoted and fun-loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. Special thanks to the staff at West Park Manor for their loving care. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined.
