WALTER RIDDELL KEILLOR 1921 - 2004 After a lengthy illness, Walter passed away August 25, 2004 with his wife by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Jack; brothers, Jack, Gordon and Bob; and his first wife Gladys. He leaves behind to mourn his wife Louisa; sons, Percy (Margaret), Robert (Georgina); daughter Mary (Dan); grandchildren
, Beau, Laura, Dan, Marlene, Brian, Ken and Pat. During the Second World War, he was stationed at Shilo were he met and married Gladys Marjorie Taylor in 1945. After the death of his first wife, he met and married Louisa in 1995. Walter spent his adult years in Winnipeg's north end where he raised his family. He spent his years enjoying his family, fishing, scouting and the Royal Canadian Legion No. 43. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. His family sends thanks to the staff of 6A South of the St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. JOYCE KEIVER (nee MISKO) It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Joyce Keiver on August 25, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joyce passed away as she lived, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Her life is celebrated by her mother, Mary McClain; her husband Dale; her daughter Brenda LeBeau (Brett); and two very special grandchildren, Marc and Amber. They are joined by brothers, Victor Misko (Jane), Larry Misko (Cass); mother-in-law Margaret Keiver; and much extended and cherished family. Born in Gilbert Plains and raised in Madsen, ON, Joyce lived in a variety of places before making Transcona her home. Joyce lived life fully, enjoying curling, golf, and time with friends. The greatest love of her life was her family, especially Amber and Marc. With them she would do anything, even wall-climbing at Church Camp. Her strength, love, and faith will always be a part of us. We thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, especially Dr. Ralph Wong, Kathy, Dr. Paul Daeninck, and Tracy, for their loving care; cousin Lydia for her unfailing support; and the ministers and congregation of TMUC for their prayerful presence in Joyce's life. LUCIENNE LABOSSIERE Peacefully with her family at her side, at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, August 23, 2004, Mrs. Lucienne Labossiere of Somerset, MB passed away at the age of 80 years. She also leaves to mourn eight brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Albert Labossiere (1991); and by five brothers and sisters. BEATRICE IRENE LARSON On Monday, August 23, 2004, Bea Larson passed away peacefully at Lions Personal Care Centre at the age of 91 years, following a period of declining health. Bea was born
on the family farm in Starbuck, MB, March 11, 1913, the fourth and youngest child of Nils and Alma Larson, who emigrated from Sweden prior to the turn of the 20th century. Educated in Starbuck, Bea gained employment with an international conglomerate, the Joe Lowe Corporation in 1936, where she established a long and successful career as manager of its Winnipeg operations, at a time when it was rare for women to be recognized in such a way for their abilities. Bea was a unique woman, combining a keen intellect with immense style and charm, she was truly a woman to be admired. Despite her physical frailty during the past three years, she remained fully engaged in life, maintaining a genuine interest in current events, in her friends and especially her nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her parents, Bea was predeceased by her brother Norman Larson, R.C.N.V.R. in the sinking of the MS Avoceta during the Second World War, as well as her sister Sandra Aitken. She was also predeceased by her great-nephews, Randy Aitken and Kim Livingston; her great-niece Teri Aitken and great-great niece Stephanie Caron; her dear friend and companion Al Reid; and brothers-in-law, Bob Livingston and Frank Aitken. Bea is survived by her eldest sister, Ellen Livingston, formerly of Starbuck, and now residing at Lions Personal Care Centre. She will also be remembered with love and appreciation for her positive influence in their lives by her nieces and nephews and their families, Jean and Obert Johnson, Bill and Helen Livingston and Roy and Inga Livingston all of Starbuck; Frank and Shirley Aitken, Norma and Harry Meneer, Doug and Dale Aitken and Debra and Don Smyth, all of Winnipeg, and Bob and Connie Aitken of Keewatin, ON. For the past 20 years Bea thoroughly enjoyed living at Lions Place, where she was actively involved and established many strong friendships, before relocating to Lions Personal Care Centre in May, 2004. Her family extends their thanks to Bea's friends and the Lions Place Staff as well as to Home Care whose efforts allowed her to remain in her own home until her recent move. Sincere gratitude is also extended to the staff of Lions Personal Care Centre who displayed their skill and compassion as Bea bravely fought her final battle. Cremation has taken place. LILLIAN GERTRUDE MacKENZIE Peacefully, with family by her side, Lillian Gertrude MacKenzie passed away at the Grace Hospital on Monday, August 23, 2004. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Audrey Read of Winnipeg; and her brother Douglas MacKenzie and sister-in-law Pat of Los Angeles, CA; nephews Gary Read (Helen), Gord MacKenzie (Debbie), Ken MacKenzie, Byron MacKenzie (Barb); nieces, Leilani Chubb (Ron), Diane Kelk (Alan), Patti Reed (Steve) and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Lillian was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Whitford MacKenzie. She was born
and educated in Winnipeg, graduating with a B.A. from the University of Manitoba, R.N. Diploma from Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, certificate of Public Health from McGill, and an M.A. from Columbia University New York. Lillian spent 35 years as Director of Nursing for the Winnipeg Health Department. Lillian was a very private lady who took great pride in her family. Her humour and graciousness will be missed. The family wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital for the excellent care they provided. Also, a thank you to the staff at the Wellington for all their services and kindness. As per Lillian's wishes, there will be no formal service but a reception will be held at the Wellington, 3161 Grant Ave. on Monday, August 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A private family interment in planned for a later date. HELEN McPHAIL January 23, 1927 - August 23, 2004 A lifelong resident of Winnipeg, Helen passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. She was a CPR employee from the age of 17 and an ardent supporter of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the arts. Predeceased by her parents, Earl and Margaret; and sister Marjorie; she is survived by her Goddaughter Laurie Denley (Gray); and lifelong friend Shirl. At Helen's request there will be no funeral. Instead a gathering to honour her memory will be held in the Kelsey Room, Holiday Inn Airport West, Friday, September 3 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made in Helen's memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Canada or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

BARICA (BARBARA) MEDVEN In the loving circle of her family Barica left to join her saviour on August 23, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Barica is now at peace. Barica was predeceased by her parents, Dragica and Janko Bendekovic; her sisters, Katica and Karmen and Valerija and nephew Dubravko. Left to cherish Barica forever in their hearts is her loving husband Mijo; her son Michael, daughter-in-law Laura and granddaughter Ashley; sister, Marica, brother-in-law Steve and nephews, Dennis and Bryan. She also leaves to mourn her brothers and sisters in Croatia, Zlatko (Jelica); Mijo (Dragica); Ljubica (Ivica) and Verica; nephews, Andjelko and Kresimir and niece Karmena (Josip). Barica was born
in Medven-Draga, Croatia. She came to Canada in 1962 where she wed her husband Mijo of 42 years. In 1964 she gave birth to their son Michael. She worked for many years with the Creamette Company till she retired in 1992. In 1994 her granddaughter Ashley was born
who she loved more than life itself. She loved her family, home, garden, and church and was happiest doing her hobbies of needle points, crocheting, knitting and many other crafts, as well as cooking and baking. She also loved being involved with the church community and activities. THERESA NAZAR Peacefully, on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Theresa went home into the arms of the Lord. Theresa was predeceased by her father Walter Shepell in 1990 and father-in-law Alec Nazar in 1991. In her passing she leaves to mourn, her beloved husband of 34 years Al (Sandy) Nazar; two children, Sandra and Darryl; mother Pearl Shepell; mother-in-law Eva Nazar; brothers, Arthur and Murray (Lori) Shepell; and two sisters, Elizabeth Shepell and Susan Scott. She also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephew. Theresa was born
March 14, 1952 in Sioux Lookout, ON. She and her family lived in Hudson, ON until 1962 then the family moved to a farm in Fisher Branch, MB. Theresa attended McMaster School in Fisher Branch until 1969. During this time she realized she had an interest in becoming a hairstylist and decided to move to her aunt Elsie's in Winnipeg and go to the Marvel School of Beauty. After completing her training, she went on to work at various salons throughout the city. It was during this time she met Al (Sandy) and were soon married on October 24, 1970. The couple lived in Winnipeg for a few months then moved to Ontario and eventually started their family. In 1980 Al was transferred with the CNR and they moved to Portage La Prairie, MB. Theresa stayed at home at this time to raise her two children but continued to do hair for friends and family in her home. When her children were old enough she went back to work waitressing at the Westward Village Inn and Sprigg's Family Restaurant until 1997 and also became a member of UCT. In 2000 Theresa and Al moved to Prawda, MB and resided on the farm for four years until her illness. Theresa enjoyed life. Her kind spirit, good heart and giving nature touched many people's lives throughout the years. She especially enjoyed her pets, taking care of her family, hairdressing, being a member of UCT, fishing and playing cards. Theresa always put others before herself and will be forever missed but always remembered by her family and friends. We will always cherish the memories we have of her in our hearts. In tears we saw you sinking We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage Your spirit did not bend. But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. When a cure was not to be He put His arms around you And whispered, "Come to Me." So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain. WILLIAM PALEN It is with great sadness we announce that William Palen passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on August 24, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife Marie of 34 years; and children, Jack Palen (Marilyn), Shirley McMahon (Barry), Lorraine Smith, Linda Carlson (Reg), Frankie Palen, Wayne Ellison (Stephanie, Murray Ellison (Joan), Faye Kusnick (Richard). He will also be greatly missed by his 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Marjorie (1968); sister Julia; brother Sandy; son-in-law Vern Smith; stepsons, Dell Ellison and Campbell Ellison. Bill was born
in Teulon on August 23, 1913 and lived all of his life in Teulon farming in the Stackpoole area for many years. He worked for Nelson River Construction and was for a time custodian of the Teulon Hall. He was a dedicated school bus driver for several years retiring in 1978. For his enjoyment, he spent many an hour with Marie training and showing horses and restoring old buggies and cutters. He took great enjoyment in family and music. He was known to play the fiddle in his earlier years with brother Sandy and other family and nothing brought him more joy than having his family all around him singing while Marie played the piano. After retirement Bill and Marie took great enjoyment with their shared love of nature going on many an afternoon drive and perhaps stopping for lunch. If you were able to catch them at home you had better be prepared to play cards or shuffleboard. Although we know he is at peace now, he will always be lovingly remembered and forever in our hearts. Special thanks from the family to the doctors and staff of Teulon Hospital and all his caregivers at Tudor House and Rosewood Lodge for all the wonderful care during the many stages of his illness. WALTER PENKOWSKI It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and true friend. After a long courageous battle with cancer God has called him home at the age of 68 years, to suffer no more. Walter enjoyed numerous hobbies and was dedicated to helping anyone, anyway he could. Walter was well loved and will be deeply missed by all. RUSSELL PERKINS Peacefully on Monday, August 23, 2004, Henry Russell Perkins passed away at the age of 88 years following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Dauphin, MB, Russ had been a Winnipeg resident since the age of seven. He served his country overseas as a proud member of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry from 1939 to 1945. Following the war he worked 27 years for Canada Post. Russ is survived by Bessie, his loving wife of 64 years; his son Garth; daughter-in-law Sheila; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emily; brother Barry; sister Lois; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Russell in 1983 and by his sisters, Elsie, Orla, Floris, Ruth, Norma, Shirley and Eleanor. ALBERT JOHN PULS October 11, 1933 - August 24, 2004 Our beloved husband, father, grandpa and brother passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre after a summer long battle with liver disease. Born in Winnipeg on October 11, 1933 "Bert" spent much of his youth in Dauphin, where he met the love of his life, Norma Lynne (Miner). Married on May 19, 1956 they packed all of their worldly possessions into a car with four others and moved to Winnipeg where Bert started a career in Meteorology and ultimately in Air Traffic Control. After a successful 34 year career, retirement brought the opportunity to pursue the things he enjoyed the most; family, Bird Lake, winter vacations and Freemasonry. As a Freemason for more than 40 years Bert cherished the many friends he made through his active membership in the Masonic Order, the Shrine, Scottish Rite and the Royal Order of Scotland. Bert was a Past Master of the Ancient Landmark Lodge No. 3 and a member of the Kaneohe Square and Compass Club in Honolulu Hawaii. Bert will be remembered by all of his friends and family as a very strong, active and wise man with a strong social conscience. He lived his life according to Masonic teachings which emphasized a love of people and compassionate work. He will be especially missed by Norma, his wife of 48 years; his three sons, Robert, Raymond and David, their wives Susan, Kathy and Heather; and his six granddaughters, Carly, Haley, Kendra, Alexa, Carina and Katelyn; his sisters, Louise Robson (Tom), Marie Watson (George), Ruth Monson (Pete); and his brother Jim (Eileen). ETHEL SCOTT (nee BATES) Mom passed away peacefully Monday, August 23, 2004 at Concordia Hospital. Mom will be dearly missed by her daughter Joan Hirt also son Allan; her sisters, Wanda Storey, Pearl Nys; her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ethel was a member for 60 years with the 100F Rebekhas and Odd Fellow. Also a member with the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Ethel was a cook at the YMCA at Camp Manitou in the early 50s then went on to work at the Jewish Post and later Ketchen Printing. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at the Concordia Hospital for their kind and helpful care.
