in Winnipeg on September 24, 1915, the son of Italian immigrants, Achille and Johanna Battistuzzi. The family moved back to Venice, Italy, when he was four years old but Italo returned to Winnipeg with his brother Armand when they were teenagers, to pursue both education and career opportunities. His brother Roger made Edmonton, AB his home, while his sisters, Irma, Antoniatta, Alda and Adelina remained in Italy. Italo served in the Army during the Second World War, worked in the mines in Little Longlac, ON, and then learned and perfected his craft of carpentry, which became his lifelong vocation and passion. He concluded his career with Winnipeg Building and Decorating where he was valued for his craftsmanship, work ethic and dedication. He was one of Winnipeg's finest carpenters and his quality work can be seen throughout the city. He was proud to point out the jobs he completed and would provide detailed accounts of every one, as well as the people he encountered. On March 22, 1943, Italo married his companion for life, Irma, and soon after moved to their home on Berrydale Avenue in St. Vital where they raised their family and remained for 53 years. He and his brother Armand, who also resided on Berrydale, stayed inseparable until Armand's passing. Italo's key interests included sports, gardening, cooking and doing carpentry projects for family and friends. He had a great sense of humour, and was an entertaining storyteller who could remember every detail of events from as far back as childhood. He was a very popular person, due in part to his humour and engaging nature. Italo was also a very religious man, who cared deeply about his family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Geriatric Ward and Golden Door Geriatric Centre for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank the many friends and family who visited with him and especially thank his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rose and Steve Glowach, for their unending support.
