MARTINO CARVALHO SOARES On July 7, 2004, Martino Soares passed away suddenly at the age of 25 years. Martino is survived by his parents Celestino and Ilda; one brother Emanuel (Geeta), two sisters Zenaida, Sandra; nephews and nieces Emanuel, Elexa, Vanessa, Quinn, Dylan, Shea and Ava; uncles and aunt Dinis (Geraldina), Isaura (Joe), Manuel, Joe; numerous cousins in BC and in Winnipeg; many friends including his best friend Nelson Amaral. He was predeceased by his grandparents Carlos and Gloria Coelho, Manuel and Maria Benevides; and aunt Maria. Martino was born
in Winnipeg, July 13, 1978 and loved life. He loved to hang out with his friends. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He had a heart of gold. He took pride in everything that he owned and did. He was always there when you needed him. Prayers will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2004, 7:00 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street. Funeral service will be held at the Church on Monday, July 12, at 10:00 am, with Rev. Msgr. Maurice J. P.H., V.F., presiding. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. ROSS M. SOLOMON Peacefully, on the morning of Thursday, July 8, 2004, in the comfort of his loving wife's arms, Ross Solomon passed away at the age of 70. Besides his wife Zinovia, Ross leaves to mourn his sons, Roman (Maureen), Peter (Liz) and his adoring grandchildren, Mykaila, Alexa, Conrad and Trent. He also leaves to mourn his sister Celina (Walter) and sister-in-law Rose; nieces and nephews. Ross was predeceased by his mother Sophie in 1984, father William in 1986 and baby brother who died at birth. Dad was very involved with St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Millennium Villa, U.N.F. and Veselka Summer Camp. Nothing pleased Dad more than spending time with his grandchildren and being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He could be frequently seen riding his lawnmower at Veselka wearing his famous camouflage hat. Prayers will be sung at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 11 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress, 820 Burrows Ave. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 12, also at the Cathedral with Rev. J. Buciora officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Kapty, Greg Hollyer, Michael Powiada, Leonard Andrusiak, Brad Richlewski and Ernie Matichuk. The family would like to thank Dr. Taras Babick and the staff of Concordia Hospital for the care during Dad's illness. ROY FREDERIC SULLIVAN Suddenly, on Friday, July 2, 2004, Roy passed away in Abbotsford, B.C. at the age of 70. Roy was born
in Hamilton, Ont. on December 15, 1933. He lived and worked in Winnipeg for many years, before moving to B.C. He is survived by his children, Patricia (Jim), David (Heather), Karen (Joseph), Glenn (Sally), Jamie (Helen), Tammy (Paul); grandchildren and great grandson; his devoted partner Olga and her children, brothers Charles (Beverly) Joe (Frances); sisters Dorothy and Jo-Anne, nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his many friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. MARGARET ANN SUTTON (nee DRINNAN) 1933 - 2004 Margaret Ann died on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Winnipeg. She is survived by her husband Richard, son James, his wife Lisa and daughter Claire. Also her sister Ella Austford of Winnipeg and daughters, Leslie of Calgary and Tracey and Ed Yeager and daughters, Caledonia and Harper of Prescott, Arizona, sister-in-law Kathleen of Winnipeg. Margaret was born
in The Pas, MB on February 23, 1933 and moved to Dauphin, MB in 1940. She attended Whitmore School, Smith Jackson JHS and Dauphin Collegiate & Technical Institute. Following school, she worked for the R.C.M.P., Dauphin Subdivision as Central Registry Clerk. She married Richard on June 28, 1958 and went to live in Brandon MB, where her son James was born
in 1962. In 1963 she and James travelled to Malaysia to join Richard who was serving there as a Colombo Plan expert with an educational scheme. She returned to Canada in 1965 and settled in Winnipeg. During this period she worked as an executive secretary at the St. Boniface General Hospital for 18 years. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no memorial service. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200

BERNICE SWATEK 1922 - 2004 After a courageous battle with cancer, Bernice passed away at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 82 years. Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Albert; parents Michael and Katherine Dybka; sister Mary Ference; brothers, Michael and Walter Dybka. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Russ (Gail) Swatek; grandchildren, David (Elan) and Susan (David); great-grandchildren, Rachel and Max; one brother, Rev. Fr. Yaroslaw Dybka C.S.s.R.; sisters, Ann Kolodi, Olga Dybka, and Sister Petronella Dybka. She will also be sadly missed by extended family and friends. Bernice was born
and lived in Winnipeg her entire life and worked for Quinton's for many years. She was a longtime member of the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church. She enjoyed travelling and knitting and was very proud of her family. She will be remembered as an intelligent and witty person who was always up for a debate with family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. F. Salem and the staff at 4th floor Victoria Hospital. Prayers will be held Sunday, July 11, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Avenue. ESTHER MOLLY TAX After a courageous battle with cancer, Esther Molly Tax passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the age of 83. Esther will be lovingly remembered by her husband William; her children, Charles, Susan and Stephen. She is also survived by her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lilly and Sam Hamer, Sarah and Ben Torchinsky and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Abraham and Shifra Pearlman. Esther's loving support and boundless energy was greatly appreciated by her family, relatives and many friends. Esther was an avid supporter of the local arts community. She enjoyed the Winnipeg Symphony, Manitoba Opera and Manitoba Theatre Centre. Esther was a member of the Hadassah-Wizo and the National Council of Jewish Women and supported many charities. She was particularly interested in the Versatech Charitable Foundation Inc. and Cancer Research and Treatment. Services were held on Thursday, June 24 at Congregation Etz Chayim. Interment was at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Alan Torchinsky, Sheldon Earn, Darren Earn, Barney Sneiderman, Jack Shapiro and Earl Rosenbloom. NANCY TAYLOR Nancy Taylor passed away quietly at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home on July 1, 2004 after a lifelong battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She was predeceased by her parents, Septimus and Christina Taylor, brothers Paisley, Russell, and Stan. She will be missed by her sister-in-law, Marlene Taylor, nieces Bev (Rick) Lisowski, Joan (Gord) McNamee, Brenda (Russ) Olson, nephews Donald (Clancey) Taylor, Russell Taylor, and Paul Taylor. She will also be missed by her 11 great-nieces and nephews, her loyal cat Miss Kitty, and many relatives and friends. Her family would like to thank all of the staff at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home for their tender loving care of Nancy over the past seven years. We would also like to thank Nancy's many friends and family members for their dedication and support throughout her incredible life. The family thanks the Minnedosa United Church Choir and Bell Choir, as their beautiful music made the service extra special. A great deal of gratitude to Memories Chapel of Minnedosa for their compassion and professionalism. A celebration of Nancy's life was held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Minnedosa United Church. ALICE MARY THOMPSON (nee VAN PARYS) Alice, formerly of Yorkton, Sask. and Winnipeg, succumbed to cancer Friday, July 2, 2004 at the Fort St. John, B.C., hospital, with family members at her side. Alice is survived by her daughter Colleen and son-in-law Michal Dwojak, her sons Philip and Patrick McKinley, her grandchildren Les, Tricia and Danielle Dwojak (Derek Nyeste) and Brendan and Heather McKinley, and her great-granddaughter Sharon Dwojak, as well as her sister Roseanne (Ed) Curtis, brothers Bill (Ethel) and Ed (Arlie) Van Parys and John Burant, her second daughter Darlene Lang and her dear friends Kathleen and John Thiess and Dolores and Rene Boulet, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Katie, brothers Art and Bob, sisters Cecilia Van Parys and Rita Becker, as well as her former husband Dick McKinley and longtime companion Ken Parsons. Alice was born
in Yorkton on Jan. 10, 1923 and raised on a farm there, often travelling to and from school on horseback. One of her fondest memories was of her devoted mother trudging through the snow to greet her children on their way home from school. Alice worked in a variety of waiting and clerical jobs in Yorkton and in Winnipeg, where she met and married Dick and brought up their three children. She worked for several years in Winnipeg for Sears Canada. Her kindness earned her many friends in West Kildonan and Winnipeg's North End, where she lived for most of her life. In her later years she moved to Fort St. John to be near her grandchildren. A memorial gathering has been held in Fort St. John and her remains have been cremated. Alice will be interred in Winnipeg at a later date. Alice's family would like to thank the staff of Fort St. John Hospital for their kindness and care. We would also like to thank those responsible for the hospital's palliative care facility, which enabled Alice to die with the dignity she deserved. THELMA CHRISTINA TSCHABUSCHNIG Thelma was born
to Gabriel and Ludmilla Tschabuschnig at Birch River, MB on December 24, 1945. Thelma was the youngest daughter of the family. She attended Birch River School, completed her secretarial course in Winnipeg, and worked for the Manitoba Government. In 1972 she left the work force and offered to preach the Gospel until 1975. Her companions were Florence Moore, Mildred Steward, Ardath Fritz, Kathleen Holland and Vera Morrow. Thelma was a quiet, loving person and enjoyed being with her family and friends. She passed away on Monday, July 5, 2004. She was predeceased by her loving parents; her only brother Gabe; and by her brother-in-law Joseph Kozak. Thelma is survived by her loving sisters, Elsie Kozak, Eleanor (Roy) Novak, Milly (Raymond) Forester, Gloria (Clare) Morrow, Edna (George) Jury; and sister-in-law Elise Tschabuschnig; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 12 at 2:00 p.m. from the Jerry Stinson Farm, Bowsman, MB, with Tom Young and Richard Knight officiating. Thelma will be laid to rest in the Crandell Cemetery, Birch River, MB following the service. Active pallbearers will be Clare Morrow, Leonard Junop, Norman Wiggins, Al Misere, Allen Dixon, and Raymond Forester. All who shared in Thelma's life are to consider themselves to be honorary pallbearers. The ushers will be Jerry Stinson and Murray Walmsley, and the memorial guest book attendants will be Morleen Wiggins, Sherlene Dixon, and Noreen Junop. The organist will be Darlene McKibben. GEORGE VOELLINGER Sadly on July 7, 2004, George Voellinger, dear husband, father and friend, passed away peacefully. George was born
in Kosov, Poland, 1924, the son of Otto and Mina Voellinger. After immigrating to Canada in 1950, he worked at Manitoba Bridge, retiring after 37 years. He loved going fishing in the Whiteshell with friends and family and enjoyed photography , gardening and beekeeping. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marion; his children, Elizabeth and George Jr; and his grandchildren, Alasdair and Calum. He will be sadly missed by his dear sister Irene; nieces, nephews and friends. George was predeceased by his siblings, Mary, Bill and Helen. THELMA G. VOGT Appleton, WI Thelma Genevieve Vogt (nee Krempin), born
August 21, 1927 in Lampman, SK, Canada to the Rev. Arthur and Clara Krempin, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at Cherry Meadows hospice facility in Appleton, WI. Thelma was the eldest of four children and spent her early years as the daughter of a Lutheran minister on the plains and prairies of Canada during the "dust bowl" years. Her father developed cancer and died in 1939 after a two-year ordeal. The family moved to Winnipeg and at the age of 15, Thelma began to work at a local movie house in order to help support the family. In 1944, she moved to Columbus, OH, to work in the Accounting Department of the Wartburg Press division of the American Lutheran Church. She returned to her family in Winnipeg in 1957 and from there brought her mother to Milwaukee, WI, where she took the position of Assistant to the Personnel Director at St. Luke's Hospital. In Milwaukee, she met and was courted by Roland H. Vogt, a widower whom she married in 1961. She, Roland and Roland's son, James lived in Appleton, WI and she gave birth to another son, Jeffery, in 1963. In 1969, they adopted their daughter, Hilary. Ever cognizant of her rich family heritage, she took on the job of family historian both for the Krempin and Vogt families, charting their lineages back into Germany and documenting many of the family stories. Her interest in personal and Church history prompted her to organize and aid many historical efforts including the placement of Zion Lutheran Church of Appleton on the National Register of Historic Places, the incarnation of the Zion Historical Museum, and the restoration of many architectural and design features of Zion Lutheran Church. Since 1994 Thelma and Roland spent their winters in Phoenix. In 2001 they moved from their longtime home on Morrison Street in Appleton to a new home on Appleton's north side. After Roland's death in 2002, she continued to spend winters in Phoenix, often visiting both her and her late husband's relatives, all to whom she was very close, in Sun City, AZ. She was preceded in death by her father Arthur; her mother Clara; and her husband Roland. She died surrounded by her surviving siblings, Dr. George (Rita) Krempin of Green Bay, WI, Mrs. Robert Roloff (Roberta Krempin) of Green Bay, WI and Mrs. J. Philip Wahl (Janice Krempin) of Columbus, OH and is survived by her children: James (Laurie) of Mt. Horeb, WI, Jeffery (Mary Anne) of Green Bay, WI, and Hilary (David) Langlie of Huntley, IL; three grandchildren, David, Daniel and Heidi; and two step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Fusaro. A funeral service for Thelma was held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 9 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 East Glendale Ave., with Rev. Daniel Thewes officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 2:30 p.m., until the time of the service.
