VIOLET (VI) BRODA (nee REINCH) It is with great sorrow that the family of Vi Broda announces her unexpected passing, only two days after her 80th birthday (which she said was her best birthday, ever). Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, and their families: Donnie, Al, Evan & Grace; Jackie, Steve, Ksenia & Kiernan; Walda, Al, Michael & Caroline. She will be sadly missed by her sisters Evelyn & Elsie, brother Harry and many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren
and friends. Vi was born
on June 27, 1924 in Green Bay, Manitoba and grew up on a farm close to Beausejour. She lived most of her life in the Fort Rouge area of Winnipeg. Vi loved to cook and was well known for being very good at it. Gardening was another of her many talents. Up to the time of her passing, Vi kept an immaculate home and garden. She took care of her grandchildren and baked and knitted for all those she loved. Vi was a generous and wonderful person who always had a great love for animals. She touched many people and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. The family is grateful to the friends and professionals who attended to Vi and ensured that she arrived speedily and safely at the hospital, and to the medical teams at St. Boniface Hospital who provided excellent care. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, 12:30 p.m., Monday, July 5, reception to follow. PETER BUCK November 15, 1910 - June 30, 2004 Husband, father, uncle, grandfather, long term Eaton employee retiree, inventive fixer of anything and everything and friend. One of his greatest joys in life was travelling to and camping at his favourite fishing spot and betting with his wife Nellie as to who would catch the first and biggest fish. He will be missed by all he knew for his sense of humour that was evident till the end. Resident of Pembina Place Personal Care Home where all the staff smile when they speak of him and his family speak of the staff with smiles of thanks for the love and care shown to my Dad. LLOYD PAUL JOSEPH CARDINAL It is with deep sorrow the family announces the passing of Lloyd Paul Joseph Cardinal on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the Health Science Centre at the age of 71 years. Lloyd was born
in Winnipeg on February 11, 1933 and was employed with Weststeel Rosco for 25 years, retiring in 1986 due to an accident. In his earlier years he enjoyed horse racing, the outdoors, was an avid sports fan of hockey, and loved fishing at Lac du Bonnet with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth and his children, Darlene (Gary), Derrick (Candace), Doris (Ken), Donna (Karl) and Darren (Daniella). There are 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Rose Cardinal, brother Hubert and sister Florence. Viewing will take place on Monday, July 5, 2004 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with prayers at 7:00 p.m. at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel, 724 Selkirk Ave. at Parr, Winnipeg. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 1:00 p.m. also at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel with Fr. Robert Bernardin officating. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Karl Genaille, Gary Henderson, Ken Millitaire, Ernie Morrissette, Jamie Jolly and Charles Nolin. JEAN COOK 1923 - 2004 Beloved widow of Albert Edward Cook passed away suddenly at her residence on June 19, 2004. Jean was born
and educated in Winnipeg. She worked for many years in the Manitoba Cold Storage Office before her marriage to Bert in 1953. She enjoyed her garden and had a great love for all animals. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband Bert in 1973, by her parents William (1955) and Annie (1979). She is survived by her son, daughter Rhonda (Tim), her sister Millicent (David) Baribeau and her dear little companions Daxie and Tweedie. Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Manitoba Wildlife Rehab Organization in Mom's name would be appreciated. KATHLEEN JEAN COWIE (BODNARCHUK) August 30, 1934 - June 27, 2004 Died peacefully in Calgary, Alberta. Her husband Ron, of 45 years, recently predeceased Jeannie, in May 2004. Jeannie is survived by her father John Bodnarchuk, of Winnipeg, sons, Rory and Neal (Wendy), grandchildren, Brianne and Steven, all of Calgary. Jean is also survived by, her sisters, Carol (Bill) of Winnipeg, and Margaret of Sidney, BC, as well as brothers, Arthur and David (Helen) of Calgary, along with numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunties and other relatives and friends. Jean was born
in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She travelled to Scotland where she met and married her husband Ron in 1959. They returned to Winnipeg in 1962, where they lived until moving to Calgary in 2000. Jeannie enjoyed camping and travelling tremendously, as well as spending time with family and friends. In respect of Jeannie's wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Calgary for medical studies. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Huntington Society of Canada, or to the Canadian Diabetes. Association.

DAVIN DOBBIN 1911 - 2004 Davin Dobbin, aged 93, widower of Helen Louise Thompson, died after a brief illness at Victoria General Hospital on June 27, 2004. David was predeceased by his daughter Patricia (Patsy) of Portage la Prairie, grandson Joel David and sister Phyllis Stanistreet. He leaves to mourn his son Michael (Gail) and daughter Margaret, both of Winnipeg. Also grandchildren John (Claire), Suzanne (David Blicq) and Jim and great-grandchildren, Thomas and James Blicq. Davin was born
and educated in Montreal, graduating from McGill University in 1932 with an Engineering Degree. During the Second World War he was a Captain in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He served for four years, mostly in the UK. After the war, he joined the engineering firm, Stevenson Kellogg, staying with them until he moved with his family to Winnipeg. He bought a house in Wildwood Park just before the 1950 Flood. He has resided in Wildwood for 54 years. He was associated for many years with Canada West Shoe and Greb Shoe. Then he made a dramatic career change, becoming Executive Secretary of the Canadian Association for the Mentally Retarded (now the Association for Community Living), Winnipeg Branch. Upon retirement, he spent 12 years on the board of directors of Com-Span Inc. Davin was an active volunteer and gave generously of himself. For years, he and Helen spearheaded and helped with the adults of CAMR, in a bowling league, swimming and at annual BBQs given at the Dobbin home for all the special people. Davin was involved with St. Paul's Anglican Church in the vestry and as treasurer for years. He attended St. Paul's until his death, aided in recent times by helpful parishioners who drove him to services. He was also involved with the Wildwood Community Centre, serving on the board and as President. He was on the executive of the Scouts, served as time-keeper at hockey games, helped with homework and cheered his family on whenever they needed him. He also cheered on the Blue Bombers, the Moose, the Jets and the Goldeyes and was a weekly visitor to the Public Library where he devoured four or five books a week. These interests continued until very, very recently. And he did his duty by voting in the recent civic election, although none of us knew he was really ill with pneumonia. When his wife Helen died, he was sorely tried to keep up the pace of involvement he and his wife had set for themselves. However, he came shining through - remembering birthdays, being involved with all celebrations and happily keeping connections with everyone in the family. For years, he hosted an annual trip to Grand Forks for upwards of ten or eleven family members, himself included. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have had the pleasure of his attention and company which has not waned with his increasing years. For the last 24 years, Davin could be seen walking his dogs around the Park. He outlasted all of his many dogs but Sandy, who is now with Michael. Davin managed to live in his home with his dog right to his passing. He will be missed. Davin has donated his body to the Department of Anatomy, University of Manitoba. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 830 North Drive, Fort Garry, on Saturday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m. Geoffrey Woodcroft will officiate and Chapel Lawn will be in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Davin's memory to the Dobbin Family Fund, The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg R3B 0X3.

THOMAS DREHER 1936 - 2004 Thomas (Tom) Cope Dreher born
September 23, 1936, passed away peacefully in Boundary Trails Hospital on June 29, 2004. He was the son of Harry and Norval Dreher who have predeceased him. He leaves to mourn his wife, Marlyn (Coutts) Dreher of Morden; his daughters and their families, Patricia and Dan Yaung, Erin, Ella and Anna of Denver, Colorado; Lisa and Kevin Krueger, Lynsay and Brett of Morden; his son Edward (Ted) Dreher of Darlingford and his sister Tanis Dreher of Winnipeg. Tom was born
and raised in Portage la Prairie. He started his career with MTS in 1956 working in various locales in Central Manitoba. He met Marlyn Coutts in Portage and in 1961 they married and moved to Neepawa where their first daughter, Patricia, was born. In October, 1963 the family was transferred to Morden and two more children were born, daughter Lisa and son Ted. During his younger years in Morden, Tom began his community service and volunteer work that he enjoyed and continued until the end. He was a member of the BPOE, Morden #478 and was Past Exalted Ruler from 1972 to 1973. He was an active member of the Masons, Morden Lodge #13 and Shiloh Lodge #70 of Roland and was Past Worthy Master of Morden in 1973. He joined the Eureka Chapter #15 of Pilot Mound and the Brandon Preceptory #74 before joining the Khartum Shriners of Winnipeg and the Pembina Valley Shriners. He was an Auxilliary member of the Morden Royal Canadian Legion #11 and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He volunteered to work Bingo at the Morden Legion and the Morden Friendship Center. In 1983, Tom and Marlyn started their six week winter holiday in Mesa. In 1991, after their retirement, they would spend six months in Mesa, Arizona. Their last six winters were spent with many friends in Casa Grande, Arizona. Tom will be missed by his family, friends and neighbours for his cheery disposition, his friendly wave and his upbeat nature. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 5 at St. Paul's United Church at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of their choice. IRENE DUNLOP 1908 - 2004 Peacefully, in her sleep, Irene Dunlop died on Saturday, June 26, at West Park Manor. She was predeceased, in 1984, by her beloved husband, Edwin Dunlop. She is survived by her two daughters, Gail Carroll and husband, Henry, of Brandon, and Frances Pollock and husband, Walter, of Winnipeg, and also by her four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gail's children are Dennis Carroll and wife, Kathy, of Chicago, Illinois, and Dr. Leslie Rowan, husband, Keith, and infant son, Benjamin, of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Fran's children are Michael Pollock and wife, Jackie, and Becky King, husband, Doug, and children, Jacob and Emma, all of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her brother, Lin Hodnett of Winnipeg, her dear friend and sister-in-law, Marion Dunlop of Toronto, and two nieces, Joan Brooke and Pat Gould. Irene was born
on November 8, 1908, into a pioneer family in the Miniota area of Manitoba. She was educated in the Miniota school and at the University of Manitoba where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of 18. She then took teacher training and taught in rural schools until her marriage to Ed in 1936. She returned to teaching in the early 1950's, taught at several Winnipeg schools, lastly at Grant Park, from which she retired in 1972. She was a longtime member of the United Church of Canada, and a life member of the University Women's Club. She was widely travelled, a voracious reader, a good bridge player; she liked to sew and to do smocking and crewel embroidery. In her youth, she played tennis and maintained an interest in the game throughout her life. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, June 30. Interment followed at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. ANNE MARGARET FORSYTH Anne was born
to William and Daisy Forsyth on the family farm at Pipestone, MB. She graduated from Pipestone High School and continued her education at the Manitoba Agricultural College graduating in 1933 with a degree in Home Economics. She worked at various jobs including Rupert Land College in Winnipeg before heading up north to Norway House to become the dietician at the Indian Residential School. In 1937 Anne travelled to B.C. and taught in both Armstrong and Victoria High Schools. Wanting to head back to the prairies, Anne settled in Winnipeg in 1945 and taught at Kelvin High School in the Home Economics Department until her retirement in 1972. She was very proud of her own home and opened it to family, friends and many others who needed a friend and a place to stay. In 1997 she moved to Bethel Place where she made many new friends and was very proud to be an active member in their wonderful choir. The Church of The Way became her church family and was a very important part of her life. It was from this Church her funeral was held on April 19. A service conducted by Pastor John Botkin, very special music provided by a Church quartet and a family eulogy all paid testimony to Anne as a caring and loving person. The committal service, conducted by Rev. Cawley was held at the Pipestone Cemetery on June 19 under sunny skies. Anne was a dearly loved sister, aunt and friend. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Willie, Dave, John and Jim and other family members. She is survived by her brother Tom Forsyth and sister Isabel Gilmour and many nieces and nephews.

SUSAN FRIESEN November 13, 1919 - July 1, 2004 After a long courageous struggle with cancer, Susan died at the break of dawn July 1. Susan was born
at Blumenhof, MB, the first of 12 children of Peter and Sussana Friesen (nee Loepky). She was predeceased by brother Eddie in 1929, by her father in 1974 and by her mother in 1988. She is survived by six brothers and four sisters. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Monday, July 5, 2004 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gospel Fellowship Church, 860 Main St, Steinbach.
