CARRIE SEMERAK

June 11, 2004

CARRIE SEMERAK It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Carrie Semerak (Baba, Cookie Baba as she was known by so many family and friends) on Tuesday, June 8, 2004. Baba was born icon on August 4, 1916 in Birch River (Medika), MB to Roman and Parascavia Basarowich. She married Mike Semerak on August 12, 1936. They settled on the farm near Elma, MB where they raised five daughters and one son. Baba moved to town in early 60's where she was employed in various jobs but returned to the farm to take care of Pop before his passing. She moved to Prawda in 1977 where she lived in a "granny suite" next door to her daughter Julie for 27 years. Baba's greatest joys were her garden, cross stitching, crocheted slippers, perogies and her cinnamon buns. No one would leave Baba's house empty handed. She loved going shopping. Even with her hands twisted from arthritis Baba still was able to tend her garden right until last summer. She also loved to sit on her deck with the cats. Baba is survived by her daughters, Natalie Gulenchyn, Tina (Walter) Zakaluk, Minnie (Bill) Podolchuk, Jean (Bill) Wingert and Julie (Sandy) Zalitach; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren (one on the way); three great-great-grandchildren (a fourth due any day now) and three brothers, Joe, Nick and Stan. She was predeceased by her husband Mike; son Tony; grandson Travis Wingert; two sisters, Tina and Nellie. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Ste. Anne Hospital for all their care and compassion. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Spoor officiating. Private family interment at a later date. Honorary Pallbearers will be Louise, Norma, Tracey, Geri, Joy, Trudy, Donna, Loni, Gay and Sandra. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ste.
