GAR LAU KWOK Gar Lau Kwok, peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2003, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 82. We celebrate his life and mourn his passing. Memorial service will be held on Friday, December 5 at the Winnipeg Chinese Alliance Church, 261 Colony St. at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor De Yi Wei officiating. BENJAMIN LOMAX On Saturday, November 29, 2003 we said "farewell" to our husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather at the age of 80. Ben is survived by his wife, Molly; his daughters, Pauline (Blair) and Carole (Dave); his grandchildren Ryan (Lindsay), Lindsay, Kristofer (Jessie) and his 'precious moment' Ethan, his great-grandson. Ben was born
in Rotherham, England on April 25, 1923. He married Molly in August of 1944 and moved his family to Canada in 1964. At dad's request there will be no funeral service. We will be taking dad home to his beloved England to be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

MARIA RACQUEL LUMARQUE (nee RAFAEL) It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Racquel Lumarque on Friday, November 28, 2003 at the age of 35 years at Health Sciences Centre. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her memory will be cherished by her husband Joseph; daughters, Joelle, Jonna, and Jodie; parents, Maria and Domingo Rafael Sr.; sisters, Rebecca Contreras (Roberto), Ruby Tan (Juno), Juanita Rafael, and Mary Ann Rafael; brothers, Bong Rafael and Domer Rafael (Lyris); parents-in-law, Norma and Ross Desiderio, Alice and Rolando Lumarque; sisters-in-law, Jennifer Lumarque (Kelly), and Nathalie Desiderio; brothers-in-law, Marc Lumarque (Robyn), Merv Lumarque (Elaine), and Myles Lumarque; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Regina, Catlin, Kirstie, Dominique, Danielle, Desiree, BJ, Jeffrey, Justin, Jamie, Kai, Joshua, Miranda, and Lauryn; and various relatives in Toronto, Vancouver, Michigan, Virginia, Japan, and Philippines. She was predeceased by her mom Juaning Rafael. Lamay will take place on Thursday and Friday, December 4 and 5 from 6:00 p.m. until Midnight at Garry Memorial, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, December 6 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Edwards the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, 818 Arlington St. Reverend Fr. Vicente Tungolh presiding. Interment will follow at Garry Memorial Cemetery. Following the service, a reception will follow. Pallbearers are Nestor Panganiban, Jimmy Anis, Arnold Lontajo, Ruel Guiterrez, John Lazo, Ulysses Marquez, Willy Torres, and Roy Oquendo. Racquel will always be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and friends. She knew she met her soul mate in Joe and together they built their dreams. She was a devoted mother and an active member of the board at Stanley Knowles daycare where Joelle attended. She was employed at Arctic Co-op Ltd. as a merchandising clerk for many years. Racquel had a personality that gravitated people to her. She had a strong will. Stronger than she believed in herself. No matter what life brought her, she faced it head on. She had many close friends. Just a week before her passing, she gave birth to her beautiful twin daughters, Jonna and Jodie. We are blessed to have had her in our lives. There are many people who will come and go in our lives. Only a few will leave an imprint in our hearts. Racquel touched all of those who met her and she will never be forgotten. EILEEN LOUISE MACDONALD Eileen passed away at the age of 73 on November 29, 2003 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg after a number of years fighting cancer. Despite living in Winnipeg for many years, Eileen's roots were in Wanless, MB. Eileen will be loved and remembered by her sons, Jack, Jim, Alex and Lloyd Gauthier and their families and by her sister Jacqueline. She will also be remembered by friends she made at Arms of the Cross, 555 Burnell St., where she lived for 14 years. Eileen will be missed by many. The family would like to thank all those who looked after Eileen throughout her illness. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Lions View, 311 Furby St., Winnipeg on Saturday, December 6 at 2:00 p.m. Parking will be available in the rear parking lot. A luncheon will follow the service. If friends so desire, in lieu of friends, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3G 4Z9. FRANCES (NONA) MATHESON Frances passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2003 at Park Manor Nursing Home at the age of 93 years. She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) in September 1996. Nona is survived by her children, Bruce (Dorothy) of Abbotsford, BC and Maureen Handley (Doug) of Winnipeg; her sister Eileen Dash. She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and their families; along with numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Nona worked many years as a stenographer for various employers, most recently with St. James Civic Office as secretary to the Mayor and for the City Treasurer of St. James. She will be remembered as an accomplished artist and wood carver, winning several ribbons over the years. She was the designer of the city crest when St. James became a city in 1958. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Park Manor for the loving care they gave to Mom during her stay there. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 3 at 2:00 p.m at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nona's memory to the ALS Society of Manitoba, Room N108 - 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3. ANTONIO MACHADO RODRIGUES Suddenly, on November 28, 2003, in The Azores, Antonio Rodrigues passed away at the age of 77 years. Antonio is survived by his wife Margaret; sons, Daniel (Maria) Rodrigues, and Tony (Stephanie Harvey) Rodrigues; daughter Christine (Ricardo Medeiros) Rodrigues; grandchildren, Eva and Zoe Rodrigues; stepchildren, Filomena (Alberto) Sousa, Clara (David) Figaredo, Joe (Nelia) Cabral, Artur (Guilhermina) Cabral, and James (Janet) Cabral, and their families. MARON JOSEPH RYBAK Peacefully, on Saturday, November 29, 2003, at Seven Oaks Hospital, Maron Rybak passed away at the age of 86. Maron was born
in Winnipeg on October 10, 1917. He was educated at Faraday and Isaac Newton Schools. As a young man Maron worked for Pepsi Cola until his employment was interrupted by the war. He served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles overseas. Upon his return he became employed with the C.N.R. until his retirement. During his retirement he enjoyed fishing. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Katherine Rybak. Maron is survived by his three sisters, Anne Mascuich, Caroline Moss and Mary Rybak; two brothers, Dr. Stanley (Anne) Rybak of Kingston, ON and Dr. Edward (Jean) Rybak; numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 3, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave., with Rev. Fr. Henryk Uczniak officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and St. Joseph's Residence. Flowers gratefully declined. ANDREW (ANDY) STEWART On November 29, 2003, at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, MB, Andrew (Andy) Stewart, aged 76 years, of Camper, MB, passed away. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on February 27. He is also survived by his two sons, Lionel (Angela), their children, Lisa and Andrew, all of Calgary, AB; Gary (Diane), their children, Jason, Chelsie and Brock of San Antonio, TX; his sisters, Scottie Rasmussen of Winnipeg, MB, Dorothy Morrison and Mary Parker of Toronto, ON; his mother-in-law Alice Schultz of Lundar, MB; sisters-in-law, Doreen (Max) Prychitko, Eileen Hutsebaut, June (Don) Reece, Bev (Eddie) Chrisp, Pat Fuller (Ed), Evelyn (Bill) Eyolfson and Gladys (David) Reykdal; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and honorary son Fred Schnell of Sioux Narrows, ON; and many good friends. He was predeceased by his mom and dad, Catherine and Charles; and his brothers, Albert, Joe; niece Elaine; brothers-in-law, Frank Morrison and Ron Parker. Andy was born
on November 4, 1927 in Woodridge, MB. The family later moved to Winnipeg. At a very early age, Andy worked in the bush camps in Ontario. He met Joyce Schultz whom he married on February 27, 1954. Together they raised their two sons. Andy worked at Canada Packers for 36 years until his retirement in 1990. Andy and Joyce moved to the Schultz family farm and resided there until his passing. Andy always liked to keep busy. He spent countless hours building and repairing around the farm. Andy kept his love for the bush where he often went woodcutting. He always ensured that there was a 10-year supply of firewood. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life. Both he and his grandchildren looked so forward to their visits. The old truck and car rides will never be forgotten. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4 at the Camper Community Hall, with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. The service will conclude at the hall. In keeping with Andy's wishes, cremation will take place and a Burial will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Dr. Lee Isaacs, the nurses and staff at Lakeshore General Hospital and the Rehabilitation Unit at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg for the wonderful care they gave Andy. A special thank you to Chum for always being there, for the support and help you gave Andy and our family, this will never be forgotten. JAMES (JIM) E. THOMPSON September 12, 1929- November 29, 2003 With deep and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of Jim Thompson on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at the age of 74 years. Jim leaves behind to forever remember and love him, his devoted wife Maureen, of 45 years of marriage; daughter Wendy; son Nigel; daughter-in-law Anne; grandson Ian and his step-granddaughter Elly. Jim will be lovingly remembered by all who knew and met him. Born in Saskatoon on September 12, 1929, Jim was raised in, and lived much of his life in Fort William (now Thunder Bay). As a young man, Jim was a talented basketball player and dedicated coach. He worked with the Canadian National Railway for 44 years. During that time, he made many good friends, many of whom he stayed in touch with in retirement. Jim was enjoying his retirement years, playing as much golf as the Winnipeg weather would allow. He was a regular at the YM-YWCA (St. Vital) and was about to step into the position of President on the Board of Directors of the Retired People's Participaction Club. Jim has been a faithful member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church since moving to Winnipeg 23 years ago. He was a very active volunteer in the church, serving in whatever capacity he could. For many years, Jim acted as church treasurer. A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held on Thursday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 709 St. Mary's Rd.
