MR. IAN LAING
1922-2009
MR. IAN LAING beloved husband of the late Mrs. Gladys Laing, passed away at the Fort Macleod Extendicare on Monday, November 30, 2009 at the age of 87 years.

He is survived by his three sons; Robert (Kim) Laing of Monarch, AB., Richard (Ela) Laing of Calgary, AB., and Doug (Mary-Lynn) Laing of Calgary, AB., and former daughter-in-law Cecille Wachal; three grandchildren; Chad (Sharon) Laing, Tim Laing, and Rodd Laing all of Lethbridge, AB., and one great-granddaughter Olivia. He also leaves to mourn his passing his two sisters; Genevieve Michael and Jean Kehrer, one sister-in-law Barbara Laing, a special friend Olive Andriashyk, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Gladys.

Ian was devoted to his family and believed his greatest accomplishment was the education of his three boys. A true prairie boy, he was so proud of both his Saskatchewan roots and his life in Alberta. Ian will be sadly missed by many family and friends.

Ian was greatly assisted in the last 18 months of his life by the staff at West Highland Centre, the Chinook Regional Hospital and the Fort Macleod Extendicare. Ian`s family is eternally grateful for the kind and gentle support Ian received.

As per Ian’s request, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be in Taber.

J.C. MAURICE L'ARRIVEE
1923 - 2009
J.C. MAURICE L’ARRIVÉE (B.S.A., M.Sc. Ph.D.), passed away on Friday, September 18, 2009, at the age of 86 years. He was born on June 18, 1923 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. His parents were E. Bernier L’Arrivée and Elodie Guilbert and he was the first born of ten children. He was predeceased by two brothers: Jean and Rene, and a sister, Marie Kehler.

In August 1950, he married Catherine Cassidy of Winnipeg. They raised six children: Marguerite Salsberry of Airdrie, AB.; Patricia Clarke of Lethbridge, AB.; Ann-Marie L’Arrivée (Mark Terrell) of Calgary, AB.; Paul (Lesley) L’Arrivée of Pakenham, ON.; Denis L’Arrivée of Rockland, ON.; and Suzanne Larsen of Manotick, ON. He has six grandchildren: Aaron Halstead, Moyra Terrell, Shannon Larsen, Christopher L’Arrivée, Matthew L’Arrivée, and Kane Keeling Larsen.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine, four sisters and two brothers (and their spouses): Gabriel (Cecile) L’Arrivée of La Broquerie, MB.; Gail Hiebert of Kansas City, MO.; Rita (John) Peters of Warsaw, MO.; Lucille (John) Caudill of Valley, WA.; Therese (Roger) Gobeil of Kamloops, B.C.; Jon (Lyn) L’Arrivée of Mount Vernon, WA.; one sister-in-law, Andree L’Arrivée, of Winnipeg, MB.; one brother-in-law, Ed Kehler of Duncan, B.C.; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Maurice received his early education in St. Boniface, MB. He served 4 ½ years in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After WW2, he attended the University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, MB., where he received his B.S.A. and M.Sc. degrees in Agriculture, specializing in Horticulture and Entomology. He then transferred to the Iowa State College in Ames, IA., where he obtained his Ph.D. degree in Apiculture. He was subsequently employed as a Research Scientist in 1954 at the Agriculture Canada Research Station in Brandon, MB. In 1965, he was transferred to the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, ON., where he later accepted the position as Head, Editorial Unit, Information Division of Agriculture Canada. Finally in 1985, he was transferred to the Research Station in Lethbridge, AB. to be its Information Officer. Dr. L’Arrivée retired in Lethbridge in 1987 and lived in Lethbridge until his death.

Maurice L’Arrivée was a Lay Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church, and a member of Our Lady of Peace Council #5826 of the Knights of Columbus. He has served as a District Deputy of the Knight’s of Columbus for 2 years, and was a member of the Fourth Degree. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Lethbridge, AB. Maurice has volunteered in a number of parochial and civic organizations, such as the Federal Superannuates National Association and the Catholic Charities Clothes Bank as its treasurer.

Vigil Prayers will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at 7:00 P.M.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Tim Boyle as celebrant. Cremation by Cornerstone Funeral Home.

After the Funeral Mass a Veterans Tribute will be held at the church

Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, a memorial tribute may be made to Parkinson’s Society of Southern Alberta, 1254-3 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB., T1J 0J9.

Thank you to Dr. Cal Stewart, all the staff at St. Michael’s Health Centre, especially Katie, Carly, Jean, Sam and Joanne, and Sisters Ivy and Caroline.

ROSE LEISMEISTER
1913 - 2009
ROSE LEISMEISTER, beloved wife of the late Jack Leismeister of Foremost passed away at the age of 96 years at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Monday, August 17, 2009.

She is the loving mother of Lloyd (Greta) Leismeister and family of Sherwood Park, AB., Midge (Rudy) Enns and family of Lethbridge, AB. and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by sister Alice Long and family of Lethbridge, AB., brothers Ron (Doris) Wolfe and family of Calgary, AB. and Jack (Linda) Wolfe and family of Kelowna, B.C.

She is predeceased by husband Jack Leismeister (1962), daughter Della, sons Alvin, Harold, and Gordon Leismeister, granddaughter Laurie Leismeister, sisters Lillian (Bob) Drennan and Betty (Stan) Degenstien and daughter in law Linda (Gordons).

Mom was born January 6, 1913 at Winnifred, AB. the first child of John and Maryann Wolfe. A short time later they moved to Foremost and she resided there until spring of 1963. After dad passed away she moved to Edmonton for a few years, then in 1977 moved back south to Taber until 1978, then made her home in Cumberland Tower’s until she moved to Alberta Rose Lodge. In June she moved to St. Therse until her passing.

Mom lived for her 2:00 P.M. coffee and smoke time for years, at the old Wal-Mart mall. Many friends, old and new, were always welcome. Mom lived a full life and worked hard at various jobs. Now she is resting in peace.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY at THE SCATTERING GARDENS, 11th Street & Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 2:00 P.M.

MRS. ROBERTA (BERT) PAULINE LOMAS, beloved wife of the late G.W. (Web) Lomas of Lethbridge, AB, passed away at Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the age of 87 years. She is the loving mother of George (Shannon) of Lethbridge and Rod (Peggy) of Waterton Park. She is the cherished grandmother of Jennifer (Will), Chris, David (Mindy) and Amy Lomas and great grandmother to Trysten, Colbi, Trinity and Tylee. Bert will be missed and lovingly remembered by many family and dear friends. In honor of Bert's memory, memorial donations may be made to Lethbridge Parkinson's Society, 1254 - 3 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB or a charity of one's choice. A Memorial Celebration will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, January 31, 2009 with Reverend Lois Punton officiating.

HELEN LATURNUS
1923 - 2009
MRS. HELEN LATURNUS, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 5, 2009 at the Coaldale Health Care Centre. She was the beloved wife of John Laturnus Sr. of Coaldale. Helen was born August 30, 1923 in Nagyborzsony, Hungary. In 1930 she came with her mother and sister Liz to join her father, George Antal, in Raymond, AB. She married John Laturnus Sr. on July 2, 1946 in Lethbridge, AB. They resided in Coaldale 50 years of their married life. Helen is survived by her 3 sons; John Jr. (Janice), Don (Alisa) and Jim (Karen) all of Coaldale, grandchildren Jason (Debbie) Laturnus, Jeremy (Amanda) Laturnus, Carisa (Ryan) Romans, Jackie (Brendan) Scholton, Paula (Colin) Chatfield, Kyle Laturnus, Devin Laturnus, Renae (Finance` Robbie Hale), 8 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, 1 brother-in-law, 3 sister-in-laws. She was predeceased by her mother, father, stepmother, mother and father-in-law, 5 brother-in-laws and 2 sister-in-laws. Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Sunday February 8, 2009 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. ERNA ELIZA LARSON
1913 - 2009
ERNA ELIZA LARSON, beloved wife of the late Dr. Olaf Peter "OP" Larson, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the age of 95 years. She is survived by her son, Arthur (Maggi) Larson; her daughter Caran (Clive) Langdon-Wilkins; her grandchildren Rayna Larson, Ted Larson, Melanie Langdon-Wilkins, and Natalie Langdon-Wilkins. She is also survived by her sister Nora Bergseth. She was predeceased by her husband Olaf in 1979 and her brother Ludwig Satre in 1995. Erna was born on June 24, 1913 in Lougheed, AB to Eric and Eliza Johnson. She was raised on a farm near Lougheed and later attended "Normal School" to obtain her teaching credentials. She was a school teacher in rural central Alberta for seven years before she married Olaf in 1938. Shortly after her marriage she moved with Olaf to Wetaskiwin, AB where he was a school principal. In keeping with the times, she became a "stay at home" wife and mother who was highly supportive of her husband and family. In the late 40's Olaf became a School Superintendent for the EID School District. After taking a year off in 1959 to complete his PhD in Education he became a Superintendent in Medicine Hat in 1960 and in Lethbridge in 1968. As a result, Erna resided with her family in Brooks, AB, Eugene Oregon, Medicine Hat, AB and Lethbridge, AB. Erna was a consummate wife, mother, homemaker, hostess and friend. She enjoyed entertaining, gardening, reading and painting. In Lethbridge, she was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she served on the Board of Directors and as a Sunday School Supervisor. A Memorial Service will be held at the LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, 2406 - 11th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, March 27. 2009 at 11:00A.M., with Pastor Kevin Powell officiating. A Private Family Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery. In accordance with Erna's wishes, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

JAMES LOW HORN

JAMES LOW HORN (Po'takssaoka'simm - ceremonial circle root), beloved father to Jimmy Lee, Blair, Charles and Chelsea; son of the late Jim and Mary Rose Low Horn, was call home by the Creator on Monday, April 20, 2009 at the age of 48 years. A Family Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 4:00P.M. A Wake Service will be held at CHIEF MOUNTAIN CHAPEL, Moses Lake, AB, Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARY'S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH on Monday, April 27, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. with Father Pawell Andrasz, Celebrant. Interment will be held at the Blood Band Cemetery.

GERALD LUSCHINSKI

GERALD THEODORE LUSCHINSKI, with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Jerry Luschinski on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the age of 58 years. Jerry was predeceased by his father Ted Luschinski. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Shirley, son Mark (Roberta) and two grandchildren, his pride and joy; Mikayla and Kierra. He also leaves to mourn his passing, his mother Rose of Gimli, Manitoba, sisters Carol, Nancy and Susan (Glen) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends too numerous to mention. All of us who loved Jerry knew him as a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Jerry loved and encouraged his son Mark in everything he wanted to do in his life. While growing up he watched Mark play hockey, golf, soccer and any type of sports he was interested in. Mark and his wife Roberta gave him the most precious two granddaughters who always made him laugh and enjoy life to the fullest. His second passion was golf. Everyone knew if he wasn't with Shirley and his granddaughters he was on the course hitting golf balls. You will be sadly missed Jerry, by all of your family and friends. A private Funeral Service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation, #207, 542 7th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2H1.

ANNE LUMLEY, beloved friend, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at the St. Michaels Health Center, on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the age of 74 years. Anne loved her children unconditionally and 'lived' to spend as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to gather at 1405 Waterton Road South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
