AMIRAULT, Louis Germaine - 76, Bridgetown, Annapolis Co., passed away August 31, 2003, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Tupperville, he was a son of the late Denis and Amy (Madert) Amirault. A veteran of the Second World War, he also served as a Sgt.-Major with D Company of the West Nova Scotia Regiment and he retired after a 37 year career at CFB Cornwallis. An active Legion member, he served as president, past president and bingo committee chairman. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; sons, Louis (Sharla), Jackson, Tenn.; William (Darlene), Kingston, Ont.; Brian (Sandra), Ottawa, Ont.; Mike (Debbie), Moscow, Russia; daughter-in-law, Elaine, Halifax; sisters, Dot (Norm), Gerry (Willie), Norma (Wilf), Laverne (Bill); several grandchildren. He will be sadly and dearly missed by his dog, Lady. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Leo; brother, Donald and brother, David in infancy. Cremation has taken place. There will be visitation 7-8 p.m. Thursday and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 33, Bridgetown will hold their service beginning at 7 p.m., both in Robert L. Hall Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Bridgetown Baptist Church, Bridgetown, Rev. George Neily officiating. Burial will be in Centrelea Cemetery. There will be a reception for family and friends in Centrelea Hall, Centrelea, following the service. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. BARTEAUX, Chester “Colin” - 27, Dartmouth, formerly of South Williamston, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Middleton, he was a son of Chester and Joan (Naugler-McLaughlin) Barteaux. He was a graduate of St Mary’s University with a bachelor of commerce in 1999 and presently studying for his Certified Public Accountant. Previously he was employed with Courtesy Chrysler, Dartmouth, and presently an accountant at Dartmouth Dodge. Besides his parents, he is survived by his loving partner, Allissa Short; half-brother, Gary (Barb) Lowe, Bridgewater; nephew, Geoff. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton, Pastor Paul Oliver officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co. BELL, Norma Marion - Halifax, passed away Friday, August 29, 2003, peacefully at home. Born in New Glasgow, NS, she was a daughter of the late Harry J. and Jessie M. Harris. She attended Maritime Business College in New Glasgow, then became a registered nurse at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. She was employed there for 5 years before marriage to Lewis Alexander Bell in 1953. Norma was a dedicated volunteer who devoted her time and energy to the IWK, Meals on Wheels and Red Cross for many years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of St. David’s, and church elder since 1975, and a longtime member of the Janet Andrew’s Missionary Group. Norma is survived by son David (Wendy), White’s Lake; daughter, Penelope Bell-Tovey (Jerome), Lower Sackville; and 3 grandchildren, Janice, Brian and Jennifer Bell. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis A. Bell, Q.C. Also surviving is sister, Doris M. Rodgers, Burnaby, BC; 2 nieces, Norma, Diane; 1 nephew, Bill, all of BC; and cousin Joan Hennessey, Charlotteton. Special thanks to Christine F. for her loving care. Cremation will take place, then visitation 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3. Service on Thursday, Sept 4, by Dr. John Pace at Snow’s Funeral Home 2 p.m. with reception to follow. BLAIR, Bernice Anne - 46, Debert, passed away August 31, 2003, at home. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Gordon Earl and Marina (Haggett) Blair. She was employed with C.F.S. Debert for several years. She is survived by her son, Travis MacKinnon, Swan Hills, Alta.; brothers, Gordie (Bev), Bill (Christine), both of Bible Hill; Ron (Caroline), Brian, both of North River; several nieces and nephews. BLAIR, H. Lloyd - 83, Halifax, passed away peacefully August 31, 2003, in Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, QEII, where he lived for the last two and a half years. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late William T. and Hariette Bell (Aalders) Blair. He was a veteran of the Second World War. Lloyd was a well-known business owner in the Kentville, New Minas area. His fireworks and novelty store, The Joke Shop, was a favorite stop for people near and far. Not only did they stop by to purchase his wares, they came to visit Lloyd and hear the latest joke. Lloyd was a wonderful man and will be dearly missed by his family, friends and acquaintances. Surviving are his son, William “Bill” Blair; sister, Gwen (Blair) Comeau. He was the beloved grandfather of Tasha L. (Tymchuk) Smith, Brent W. Tymchuk, Jason (Blair) Johnson. Lloyd was predeceased by his wife, Jean Winnifred (Beckwith) Blair; daughter, Karen Winnifred (Blair) Tymchuk. BOUDREAU, Edward John - 88, Poulamond, Richmond Co., passed away peacefully September 1, 2003, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by his loving family. He was a resident of St. Anne’s Nursing Home Veterans’ Wing, Arichat. Born in Poulamond, he was a son of the late Theophile and Minnie (Stone) Boudreau. He was a merchant seaman and was employed with Williams Collings & Sons, Halifax, for 30 years, also Dartmouth Shipyards for 10 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Mildred (Harding); daughters, June (Danny) Ferguson, Sandra Lowe, both of Dartmouth; sons, Lesley (Betty), Dartmouth; Donnie (Donna), Sackville; Earl (Valerie), Truro; Gary (Clara Mae), Evanston; brother, Charlie, New Jersey, U.S.A.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother, Clifford; sister, Blanche; granddaughter, Jolene in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, September 4, in St. Hyacinth Church, Rev. Bruno Ruel officiating. Burial to follow in the Parish Cemetery. BROOME, Ethel M. - 72, New Ross, Lunenburg Co., passed away August 28, 2003, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in New Ross, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Hazel (Mullally) Keddy. At a young age, she and her husband moved to Halifax where she resided for 25 years. She then moved back to New Ross area where she and her husband lived and later retired. She took an active part in church and community affairs. She was a member of Christ Anglican Church, New Ross; the Royal Canadian Legion, New Ross; a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary; a member of the Golden Age Club and the New Ross Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She took and keen interest in the Blue Grass Association in the South Shore and Valley area. She is survived by her husband, Ira; son, Michael, New Ross; grandson, Christopher; brothers, Leonard and Howard Jr., both of New Ross; sisters, Alice Walker, New Ross; Helen Fairbank, Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. Born in Blandford, she was a daughter of the late Enoch and Annie (Burgoyne) Zinck. Vernie was a member of the Seaside Seniors Group and a founding member of the Blandford Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church Guild. She is survived by sons, John (Madelene), Big Tancook; Gordon (Ella Mae), Oromocto, N.B.; daughter, Annie (Wendell) White, Blandford; sisters, Letha (Hugh) Davidson, Quebec; Kate (Burnard) Coolen, British Columbia; Elsie Cleveland, Fox Point; grandchildren, Tina and Peter Weaver, Maine; Leia and Erik, Oberg, South Carolina; Laura Gates, Blandford; great-grandchildren, Keleigh and Issac Weaver, Maine. She was predeceased by husband, George Cleveland; brothers, Josiah and James; son-in-law, Gilbert Gates. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, September 1, in Ronald A. ARAC, Mary - passed away Sunday, October 12, 2003 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born on December 2, 1917 in North Sydney, N.S., later moved to Halifax where she resided and worked for many years as a stenographer. For the last 5 years Mary lived at Northwood Centre. During World War II, Mary served as a member of the CWAC’s. Mary was predeceased by her father and mother, Emil (1984) and Margaret (MacNeil) Arac (1931); and by her loving aunt, Sadie Basker; uncle, Dan MacNeil, who cares for her following the death of her mother; sisters, Dorothy Glasgow (2000), Doreen Furzer (1966); brothers, Bertrand (1928), Michael (1995) and Daniel (2002) Arac. Left to mourn are two sisters, Sr. Teresa Arac, Philadelphia; and Kay (John) Doucet, Kingston, N.S.; many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by her nieces, Laurie Flindall and Moira Legere-Sers who accompanied her so lovingly in her later years. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery family plot in North Sydney. Arrangements entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St.

ARCHIBALD, Jane (Ileen) - 83, Indian Harbour, N.S., passed away in the QEII Hospital in Halifax, on October 13, 2003 after a period of illness. Born in London, England, she was a daughter of Edith (Morton) and Alfred John Parkinson. She joined the British Civil Nursing Reserve and qualified in 1938. She was a member of the staff of the Bank of London and South America Ltd. Later she joined the British Women’s Royal Navy Service (“the WRENS”) and served for three years in Plymouth, England with TURCO (Turnabout Control). She came to Canada as a War Bride in 1946. She was the former wife of Orrin R. Archibald and was a resident of Bedford for 39 years where she became President of the Bedford Home and School Association and a member of committees of Bedford Service Commission. She was among those who initiated the Bedford VON Service and the Regional Library Service for Halifax Co. She served as Vice-President of the Nova Scotia Home and School Association, President of the Nova Scotia Music Festivals and President of the then Nova Scotia Arts Council. She was formerly a member of the boards of governors of both Mount Saint Vincent University and Dalhousie University. She was a member of the Nova Scotia Council on Teacher Education for some 12 years and member of a variety organizations which promoted the arts in Nova Scotia, including the “Tridents Board” at the time of the founding of Neptune Theatre. She was for many years a sustaining member of the Junior League and an enthusiastic member of her garden club. She was made an honorary member of Nova Scotia School Board Association and the Nova Scotia New Democratics Party. Jane was proud of what she achieved with community organizations in Nova Scotia. She is survived by three children and their spouces, Bruce (Martha Pratt), Sarah (Dan MacFadgen) and Michael (Linda Langley); and six granchildren, Michael, Beth, Orrin, Alex, Mathew and Dana. There will be visiting hours at Snow’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street in Halifax on Wednesday, October 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. George’s Round Church, 2222 Brunswick Street, Halifax at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 16. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes. Association, in lieu of flowers.

ATWELL, Vincent Westley - 38, Wolfville Ridge, Kings Co., passed away Saturday, October 11, 2003, in Wolfville. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of Ernest and Pauline (Harris) Atwell. Vincent worked in many areas of the Valley for farmers, picking apples, also employed with Chesley Davidson and Son Painter’s for many years. Vincent always worked with his dad learning his trades such as painting, and was a woodsman all of his life. He had a great love of fishing and hunting. Besides his parents, he is survived by his long-time companion, Veronica Coldwell; brothers, Paul (Kelly) and Owen, Wolfville; sister, Lana, Ontario; three nieces; many aunts and uncles. Vincent will be missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by both maternal and paternal grandparents. Visitation for Vincent will be 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Thursday, both in H.C. AVERY, John Reginald “Reg” - 80, Halifax, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2003, peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Reg was born icon in Larry’s River, and was a son of the late Bert and Cecilia (Gerrior) Avery. He was a veteran of the Second World War and later worked as an electrician for Bedard-Gerard, Fairey Aviation and DND Dockyard, Halifax, retiring in 1988. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife, L. Camilla (Pellerin); daughters, Estelle (Bill) MacMaster, Jean (Alphonse) Pitts, Lynn (Daren) Moulstone; sons, Doug (Jennifer), Gerard (Tracey); sister, Blanche (Pat) Tully; grandchildren, Daniel and Kaleigh MacMaster, Sarah, John Mark and Matthew Pitts, Jessica Kennie, Patrick Felix, Chad, Nicole and Ashley Avery, Kyle and Brandon Avery, Emily, Megan and Christopher Moulstone; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Blanche Kennie; brother, Con Avery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of J.A. BEATON, Donald Hugh - 81, passed away in Veterans Memorial Hospital on October 11, 2003. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late John Hector and Mary Katherine (MacDonald) Beaton. Don served in the R.C.N.V.R. during WWII. Retired from the DND Fire Service in 1977, he also worked part-time at Sears, Halifax, before and after retirement. He was a lifetime member, as well as past president of Scotia Branch # 25, Royal Canadian Legion, member of RCNA Peregrine past grand-knight and life member of Council 8666, St. Steven’s and 4th degree member of Archbishop McCarthy assembly, Knights of Columbis. He volunteered for 14 years at Veterans Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances (Gillis); daughter, Donna Gorman (Carl), Bedford; and three granddaughters, Kelly, Laura, and Stephanie, who, he loved and was very proud of. He was predeceased by a son, Joseph; brothers, Bernard and Joseph; and sister, Marie Conway. His body has been cremated and the family will receive friends at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial Mass will be held from St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, corner of Robie St. and Normandy Dr., Halifax, where he was a founding member, on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 10 a.m., Father Gilbert Bertrand O.M.I. officiating. BEAZLEY, Stephen Vincent - 46 of Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away on October 4, 2003 at home. He was born icon January 18th, 1957 in Halifax. He was the son of Rita (Ryan) Beazley and the late Frank Hugh Beazley. He is survived by brothers, Frank (Ann), Cyril (Linda); sisters, Beverley Wilson, all of Halifax Regional Municipality; Sheree (Dale) Smith, North East Harbour, Shelburne Co.; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Stephen has lived in Florida for the past 23 years, and was employed with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Teletrac Inc. and the Legal Club of America. Throughout his life, Stephen loved music and was an accomplished guitar and fiddle player. Funeral mass will take place Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Fairview, Father Duncan MacMaster officiating. Reception to follow in Church Hall.
