Klukie, Beatrice Julianna
February 03, 2003

Mrs. Beatrice Julianna Klukie (nee deWit), age 76 years, of 124 Carl Avenue, Thunder Bay, passed away on Sunday, February 2nd, 2003.
Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away at home with her family by her side, on Sunday morning after a five month courageous battle with cancer.
Mom was born icon in 1926 in Groningen, the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada when she was six years old. She and her family lived in Hamilton, Cochrane, Geraldton and eventually Port Arthur. While working at Wainio’s General Store on Red River Road, she met her husband John Klukie. They were married in 1947 and together they raised their family of six children in Thunder Bay.
Mom was strong, resilient, always worked hard and loved us with all her heart. She instilled values in all her children for which we are so grateful and that we hope we’ve passed on to our own children. “You did good Mom” was something we told her often. The last twenty years were especially good to her and she enjoyed every one of them. She will be remembered as the best Mom, Nana and Mother-in-law.
Family meant everything to her and it became an extended one with all the children she babysat through the years: Amy, Ian, Jamie, Wes, Kyle, and Mark. They became special grandchildren to her and she a special Nana to them. Mom was loving, patient and dependable, yet stern and consistent at the same time. She was an important part of each of their lives.
She was thankful for and loved her special friends and neighbors: Olga, Ingrid, Helmi and Mickey from Carl Avenue. The highlite of Mom’s week was Saturday when she joined her best friends for coffee, scratch tickets, shopping at Zellers and then lunch with her girls and grandchildren. Mom enjoyed our annual summer treks to Wabigoon to visit Lori and Gary and their boys, but was always glad to come home and sleep in her own “bed”. She loved to read, made the best perogies and raspberry jam, and played a mean game of checkers. The simplest things in life gave Mom the greatest pleasure.
Beatrice was predeceased by her parents, husband Johnny in 1985 and one son Patty in 1958. Left to mourn and miss her are six children and their spouses: Rick and Donna Klukie, Cathy and Jim Shewchuk, Janice and Karl Heinicke, Lori and Gary MacNeil, Linda Klukie, Jacki and Dino Bruni; seventeen grandchildren: Pat Klukie and Catriona McMullen and Ashley Klukie of Winnipeg, enroute, Lindsey and Matthew Vaillant, Lee, Jay, Bill and Brett Shewchuk, Heather (S. Korea) and Tannis Heinicke, Kelly and Kasey MacNeil, Robin, Jesse and Kimberlee Lepere, Samantha Renaud, her newest grandson Nicholas Bruni. Also survived by one sister Cora Tierney of North Bay and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Reception to celebrate her life, on Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Reception Hall at Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Private internment will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Beatrice’s memory to St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Foundation, Salvation Army or to the charity of your choice.
