Venerable Samuel Maitland - Archdeacon (retired from the Church of the Epiphany, Sudbury, Anglican Diocese of Algoma) peacefully at the Pines Long Term Care Residence, Bracebridge, on Saturday, January 26th, 2002 in his 95th year. Beloved husband of the late Eleanor (nee Lough). Dear father of the late Dr. William Craymer and his wife Elizabeth of Bracebridge. Much loved grandfather of Michael Craymer (Mary) of Kanata and Jane Craymer (Don Mink), Stephen Craymer (Becky), John Craymer (Patty) and Mary Galetzka (Frank) all of Bracebridge. Great-grandfather of nine. Pre-deceased by his brother Jim Craymer and his sister Margaret Craymer and Frances Weary. Will be missed by his many friends and associates. FAFLAK
Mr. Edward (Ed) Faflak, age 62 years, of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, March 15, 2002 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Rosewood, Manitoba, he move to Blenheim, Ontario in 1942, and in 1970, moved to Thunder Bay. Ed was employed as a produce manager at various retail grocers and in 1990, he and his son-in-law Bob Frade, co-owned Frade’s Fruit and Vegetables. It gave Ed great pride sharing his knowledge and years of experience with Bob. His sense of humor and generous nature were only a couple of his wonderful attributes. Ed especialy loved to spend time with family and friends, and the hobbies he most enjoyed were gardening, woodcraft, fishing and hunting.
Ed is survived by his wife Dorothy; two daughters: Samantha (Bob) Frade of Thunder Bay, Terry Lynn (Kevin) Bechard of Thamesville, Ontario; son Steve of Merlin, Ontario; six grandchildren: Aaron Frade, Aubrey or Audrey, Sherrie, Brandon, Shawn, Tanya Bechard; three sisters: Jean Kuper of Thunder Bay, Mary Schram of London, Ontario, Leda (Bob) Sutton of Bala, Ontario; brother Bill (Betty Faflak of Blenheim, Ontario. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Ed was predeceased by his parents William and Janine; two sisters: Vera Mauro, Blanche Stevens; three brothers: Joe, John and George.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Rev. Michael Dunnill. Interment will take place in the Family Plot, Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Wilson, Steve

On Saturday March 30th. 2002; Steve Wilson age 74 years passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Port Arthur Site. Born in Gull Bay he had resided in Thunder Bay for the past six years. He worked as a bush cutter, logger and well maintenace. Steve was also a trapper and hunter and worked in various labour jobs in Gull Bay. In the last two years he was an Elder of the Poplar Point First Nations and a board member for the Poplar Point Corporation. His main interests were spending time with his family, friends and relatives. His liesure times were spent socializing with friends and going to Grand Portage Casino. He enjoyed family gatherings listening to music, watching television especially when his brother Francis would be giving a sermon. His family will remember him for his sense of humour. Survived by three sons Frank (Brenda), Russell (Yvonne) and Joey (Lisa), daughter Charlene (Andrew). 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, seven sisters Florence, Ida (James) Ina, Hazel, Annette (Morris), Cora and Dina (Frank), two brothers Francis and Andy, numerous nieces nephews and relatives in Gull Bay, Thunder Bay, Nipigon, Caramat, Longlac, and Manitou Island, British Columbia also survive. He was predeceased by his wife Helen, parents Dominic and Mary Jane Wilson sisters Amelia, Angela, Veronica and brothers Daniel and Victor. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday April 3rd. at 10:00 a.m. when family and friends will gather at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church for services conducted by Rev. Michael Murray (All services complete in the church). Following cremation interment will take place in Gull Bay Cemetery on Thursday April 4th. at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel 21 N. Winters
Mrs. Hazell D. Winters age 90 years a resident of Grandview Lodge and formerly of 770 Leslie Avenue, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 29th, 2002. Born May 1st, 1911 in Shell River, Manitoba, she had been a resident of the city since 1941. Hazell was a member of Our Lady Of Loretto R.C. Church and the Ladies Auxiliary Port Arthur Branch #5, Royal Canadian Legion. Her most cherished times were spent with her children and grandchildren. Following the tragic death of her only son Bernard, Hazell lovingly raised his seven children as well as her own 2 daughters. Hazell loved to garden and enjoyed doing crafts, she especially excelled at quilting and many of her quilts grace the homes of her family. Hazell and George attended bingo games together and following his passing she continued to enjoy playing. Hazell worked effortlessly with the New Democratic Pary with Easter Seals and the Red Cross Society. Hazell will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Sally Arthur (John) and Blanche Smith, 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 2 brothers James and Rennie Gosslin of Winnipeg, sister Eva Henderson of St. Lazare, Manitoba, nephew Wendell Cathers and his wife Jean and niece Adeline Lovat and her husband Monty. She was predeceased by her husband George, son Bernard, sister Bea Barker, brother Emile Gosslin and son-in-law Don Smith. A celebration of Hazell's life will be held on Thursday, April 4th at 10:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Rev. Rev. Guerrino (Rino) Ziliotto, c.s., a Scalabrinian priest, age 82, died at St. Charles Residence, Sun Valley, California, March 30, 2002. Fr. Rino was born
in Borso, Treviso (Diocese of Padua) Italy on August 31, 1919. He was professed as a Scalabrinian Religious Nov. 6, 1938. Ordained priest on June 25, 1944, his first assignment was at Chicago at St. Anthony Parish, (Kensington), and Holy Guardian Angels Parish 1945-1958. Subsequently, he served at Santa Maria Goretti Parish, Edmonton (1958-1965); St. Angela Merici Parish, Windsor (1966-1970); Holy Spirit Parish, New Westminster, B.C. (1970-1986) ; He served as associate pastor at St. Peter's, Sarnia (1993-1997) and St. Dominic's, Thunder Bay (1986-1990) (1997-2001). Fr. Rino is predeceased by his parents, Valentino and Angela Ziliotto; and survived by his Sister Ippolita (in Treviso, Italy); and a nephew Rev. Giandomenico Ziliotto, c.s., Superior and Director of the Scalabrinian Centre in London, England. Special prayers and tribute to Fr. Rino will be included in the regular daily Mass at St. Dominic's Parish, 130 Redwood Ave., on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 7 P.M. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Scalabrinian Missions.
A tree will be planted in memory of Rev. Rino Ziliotto c.s. in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 29, 2003.
Milne
Friends and family of the late Helen Milne sadly announce her death following a short illness on Sunday, March 31st,, 2002 in the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital (Port Arthur General Site). Helen was born
on January 26th, 1919 to the late Fred and Ann (Smith) Sherban in Oliver Township. She married Edward Kenny Milne on April 9th, 1955 and he predeceased her on April 24th, 1995. Helen was employed with Can Car during war time and then for many years by the Royal Bank of Canada. She was an avid knitter and was always an animal lover, greatly loving her dog Corky. Helen and Eddie loved to camp and to travel, going to the United Kingdom, Europe and many many places in Canada and the United States. Following Eddie's death, Helen fulfilled a long-time wish and travelled to Hong Kong. Helen is survived by family friends and colleagues in Thunder Bay, Canada and the United States and very special friends Sylvia and Ken Murphy and their family in London, England. Cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate Helen's life will be held on Friday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Rev. Randy Boyd of Trinity United Church officiating.

STEWART ALEXANDER RICHARD (SANDY)
On Good Friday, March 29, 2002. Beloved husband of Vivien Campbell. Loving father of Ann Kathleen Muldoon, Sandy and Rick. Dear brother of Kathleen Greer and the late Ken, and sister Jean. Sadly missed by his seven grandchildren, Suzanne and Alex Muldoon, Suzanne and Dianne Stewart, Duncan, David and Meaghan Stewart. Also mourned by spouses Noel Muldoon, Carol Stewart and Dawn Stewart. Born in Fort William on January 30, 1915 to Dr. Alexander Dufferin and Eva Stewart. Sandy was an avid athlete and King Scout attending the World Jamboree in England in 1929. He enjoyed all the summers of his youth at Loon Lake. In 1937 Mr. Stewart was an honour graduate in Chemical Engineering of the University of Toronto and did post graduate studies at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The summer of 1939 Sandy joined the M.I.T. Sailing Club where he obtained his skills and passion for sailing, Herreshoff M.I.T. “Tech” dinghies. Sandy and Vivien were married, by the Right Rev. R.J. Renison at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Toronto on September 9, 1939. Sandy joined C.I.L. (I.C.I.) in 1937 becoming Plant Manager in 1947 for the York Paint Plant. Mr. Stewart transferred to Montreal in 1949 and became Research and Technical Manager, Paints in 1956 and General Sales Manager in 1958. In 1962, Sandy moved from Senneville, Quebec, where he served as a Councillor and was a Founding Member and Commodore of the Senneville Yacht Club, to become Vice President of Arnold Hoffman Co. (I.C.I) in Rhode Island. Sailing out of the Barrington Yacht Club, Sandy enjoyed winning races with his “Flying Dutchman”. In 1966 Sandy and Vivien returned to Toronto where he was an executive with Dylex Limited’s plastics division. He retired in 1978 and enjoyed many years at their beloved cottage “Gaelic Glen” and winters golf in Naples Florida. Sandy passed away peacefully surrounded by family members at Glynnwood Retirement Residence. A reception for family and friends will be held in the Park room of the Morley Bedford Funeral Home 159 Eglinton Ave. W. (2 stoplights west of Yonge Street) Saturday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A memorial service will then be held in St. Paul’s Anglican Church 227 Bloor Street East (west of Jarvis Street) at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scott Mission.
TASKINEN
Miss Liisa Kyllikki Taskinen, age 77 years, a resident of Onion Lake Road, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - General on Sunday, March 31, 2002, following a brief illness.
Born in Port Arthur, raised and educated in Tarmola, she was a lifetime resident of the area. Liisa served for many years as postmistress of Stepstone Post Office, and secretary-treasurer of the S.S.#3 Gorham School Board. Liisa attended King’s Business College, and was employed by S.J. Hill and Sons (International Harvester) for twenty-seven years until her retirement in 1983. Liisa enjoyed her home on the farm, needlework, reading, travelling, and especially her family and close friends.
Liisa is survived by three sisters: Helen (Bill) Ruohonen, Martha (John) Ranta and Helmi (Eric) Ehn; brother Harold (Nancy) Taskinen; and sister-in-law Irene Taskinen - all of Thunder Bay. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives here, in Finland, Sweden and the United States. Liisa was predeceased by her parents Kalle and Elisabet Taskinen; two brothers: Klaus in 1991, and Theodore in infancy.
According to Liisa’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and Private Memorial Service, officiated by Rev. Jamie Bosma of Bethel Lutheran Church, will be held in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date in the family plot in Tarmola Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Liisa’s memory to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, or Bethel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Mrs. Patricia Gloria Delvecchio, age 65 years, resident of Thunder Bay, died in St. Joseph’s Hospice, on Monday April 1, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Fort William Pat was married to Leonard Delvecchio on July 26, 1958. Her home and family were always very important to her. She enjoyed spending time at her winter home in Florida, playing Bingo, knitting and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Leonard, children Tina and her husband Randy Gotziaman, Jim and his wife Sandra, Karen and her husband Calvin Knorr, grandchildren, Alanna, Krysti and Jena Gotziaman, Michael, Ryan and Devin Delvecchio, Justin and Matthew Knorr, brothers and sisters Joe Balina, Carl Balina, Helen Gvora, Maureen Gourley, Beverly Miller, Geraldine Balina, Ronnie Balina, Joanne Ball, Bernice Iagallo, Penny Sokoloski, Carol Furioso, Gary Balina, Edward Balina, Sandra Bodnarchuk, Glen Balina and David Balina. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Mary Balina and brothers Rudy and Billy Balina. Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Friday April 5, 2002 when friends and family will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church celebrated by Rev. B.A. Campbell. Interment will follow later in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum. Vigil Services will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends so desire memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated.

Stakiw, Peter

With deep sorrow, the family of Peter Stakiw announces his death on March 23rd, 2002, at Pioneer Ridge with his family at his side. Peter was born
in the Ukraine on December 30th, 1911, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 16 years, joining his older brother, Walter, in Saskatchewan. He married Helen Baraniuk, his wife of 67 years in 1935. In 1942, Peter, Helen and their son, Joseph, moved to Port Arthur where their daughter, Cecelia, was born, and where they have resided since. Peter and Helen were market gardeners and later operated the Country Flower Shop for many years. He was extremely proud of his family and enjoyed gardening and bee-keeping. Peter is survived by his wife Helen, son Joseph Stakiw (Stella), daughter Cecelia Van Natto (Bob), grandchildren Stephen Stakiw (Mary Ann Anderson), Andrew Stakiw, David Stakiw (Sherry), Sharlene Baryluk (Marty), Dan Van Natto (Kerry Robinson), great granddaughters Sarah Baryluk and Aleena Stakiw, brother Tony in the Ukraine, as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings in the Ukraine, brother Walter in Saskatoon, and sister Mary in Poland. According to Peter’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service for family and friends will be held at Pioneer Ridge Auditorium, 750 Tungsten Street, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6th, 2002, with Very Reverend Bohdan Bilinsky officiating. Internment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Dew Drop Inn, Shelter House, or charity of choice.
Haigh, Aurelieene Marie "Arlene"

Mrs. Aurelienne Marie “Arlene” Haigh, nee Chartier, age 81 years, a resident of 122 South Cumberland Street, passed away in the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Port Arthur Site, on Monday, April 1, 2002. Born November 7th, 1920 in St. Lazare, Manitoba, she was the daughter of the late Lionel and Rosine Chartier. She had been a resident of the city since 1943. Arlene was a member of St. Andrew's R. C. Church and a former member of Our Lady Of Loretto R.C. Church. She was a 25 year member of Our Lady Of Loretto Catholic Womens' League and a member of their Altar Society. Arlene worked for Can Car during war time and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in Manitoba. She enjoyed crochetting and knitting and many of her works are displayed in the homes of her family and friends.
Travelling to Grand Portage with her daughter and spending time at the Thunder Bay Charity Casino brought Arlene much enjoyment. Her home, family and grandchildren always took top priority in her life. Arlene will be lovingly remembered by her son Lionel (Geri) daughters Janet Adey and Theresa Wiggins (Mark), grandchildren Tracey and Shawn Haigh and Richard and Julie Moorey, 3 brothers, 5 sisters, sister-in-law Connie Hartley, she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Predeceased by her husband Edwin Leslie (Les) Haigh, her parents Lionel and Rosine Chartier, son-in-law Greg Adey and by brothers and sisters. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 5th when family and friends will gather at Our Lady Of Loretto R.C. Church for services at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Mark Chochrek. Cremation will follow with a private family inurnment service to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy the family respectfully requests memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. Sigrid Vera Kaar (nee Kuldma)
Sigrid Vera Kaar died peacefully in hospital following a short illness in Thunder Bay, Ontario on Monday, April 1, 2002. She was born
June 15, 1913 in Tartu, Estonia. On October 29, 1949 she married Tiido Kaar in Leeds, England. They emigrated to Canada (Port Arthur) in March 1951. She worked for many years at the Port Arthur General Hospital Dietary Department retiring in 1975. Sigrid was predeceased by her parents Johann and Natalie Gulbis and her brother Vello Kuldma. Her husband Tiido predeceased her on November 10, 1995. Contact with her sister Erika was lost during WW II.
Funeral services for the late Sigrid Kaar will be held on Monday, April 8, 2002 at 11:30AM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with Bishop U. Petersoo officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation for friends will be on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM in the EVEREST CHAPEL.
