God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you, And whispered, "Come with Me". So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back To suffer that again. Always remembered, always cherished. Mom took pride in her cooking; her holubchi, perogies, borscht, canned beets and dills were always family favourites! Harvey was predeceased by his wife Blanche; his parents, Theresa and Malcolm; his brother Albert; and his good friend Vic. In Winnipeg, Harvey started life humbly as the son of a door-to-door milkman. BERNYCE BARON (nee BARTKO) November 1, 1923 - November 19, 2004 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bernyce after a very courageous five year battle with cancer at St. Boniface Hospital, on Friday, November 19, 2004 where she was surrounded by her family. Bernyce will be lovingly remembered and mourned by her husband of 55 years Henry; son Douglas (Dawn); daughter Carolyn (Danny) Stefanik; grandchildren, Steven, Shauna, Stuart, Madelaine; great-grandchildren, Rashaun, Rakem, Royal, Zenia and her sister Anna Withers; as well as many other relatives and friends. In the early 1960's she served on the Board of the EK YMCA. She also taught Sunday school at Grace Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. In 1964 Bernyce took her first ceramics class from Mrs. Duff. Within ten years she began teaching ceramics both at home and in the Seven Oaks School Division. To expand her creativity, she tried china painting. Well she was hooked igniting a passion that lasted a lifetime! She joined REACA and by the late 1980's she became the treasurer, a post she held until July 2004. She also belonged to the Winnipeg China Painters Club, Manitoba Porcelain Artists and the Heritage China Painting Club. At times serving as President in these Clubs. In the last 13 years Bernyce took up watercolour painting and joined the Melrose Art Group and Local Colour, where she painted with her daughter Carolyn. Bernyce and Henry spent countless hours at McBeth House Seniors Drop In Centre, where she served as secretary for the past 16 years. She and Henry enjoyed the bi-weekly cribbage games and many pot luck dinners and festivities with their friends. Mom was a devoted wife, and a caring, kindhearted mother and grandmother who loved her family deeply and who was always there for us. We cannot begin to express how much she will be missed. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Embil, Dr. Yaffe, Dr. Wong, Dr. Daninck, and the entire staff at St. Boniface Cancer Care and the 8A Palliative Care Ward for all the excellent care given to Bernyce. on May 10, 1902 at her parents' farm in the Marshland area in Manitoba, where her parents had settled after emigrating from Iceland. As a teenager, Lieve enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially riding her favourite horse "Frank", who lived for many years. At 16 she took over the Grass River post office for two years under her father's supervision. At 18 she travelled to Indiana, where she enrolled in a business course, then attended Manchester College, and later enrolled at Dominion Business College in Winnipeg for a refresher course. She worked for Great West Sadlery in Winnipeg from 1929 until 1951. She was then hired as Secretary Treasurer for Outlook School Unit in Saskatchewan from 1952 until 1972, residing in Outlook and Moosomin. Lieve retired to Gladstone in 1979, where she took pleasure in living in her own home and tending her garden until she moved to 110 Legion Place in 1989. From there Lieve moved to the care home. A special thanks to the staff at Third Crossing Manor for the care and comfort they provided for Lieve during the years that she lived there. Lieve will be remembered as an independent person who lived her life with an enthusiasm that was reflected in her paintings, her beautiful flower garden, and her love of dancing. Lieve attended square dancing until she was in her 90s. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and made four different trips to Iceland, touring and visiting relatives. Lieve was predeceased by her parents, Albert Freeman and Anna Karolina; brothers, Chris and Eddy; an infant brother who passed away on the trip from Iceland; sister Bertha Stewart; sister-in-law Joan; and a niece Linda Breckman in Iceland. PAULINE BRITTON
PAULINE BRITTON (ERHARDT) (nee SCHREINER) 1908 - 2004 Peacefully, on November 20, 2004, Pauline passed away at Beacon Hill Lodge, Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 96 years. Pauline will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Ronald Erhardt and his children, Peggy, Wendy, Jeffrey and Karen; Gilbert (Louise) Erhardt and their children, Clyde, Sherry, Donna, Della and Alex; and daughter Joyce (Alec) Parlin and their children, Tamara and Kevin. She is also survived by her many great-grandchildren and sister Ann Coon. Pauline was born
in Rhine, SK, one of 11 children. At a very early age, she was required to help cook for and feed the younger children and threshing crews on the farm. At 12 years of age, she was sent by her parents to Winnipeg to be a nanny and maid for a Winnipeg family. This early entry into an adult workforce did not give Pauline an opportunity to obtain a formal education. She was, however, self-taught in all areas of life and was an avid reader, competitive and shrewd card player and interested in world events. Prayer and her faith in God sustained Pauline throughout her life. Sadly, after 25 years of marriage to Alex Erhardt and his very sudden death in 1957, Pauline was left a widow. Pauline married Victor Britton in 1965 and they enjoyed 33 very happy years together until Victor's death in 1998. Pauline was employed by Raber Glove for most of her younger years. When she was raising her children, the sewing machine was brought into her home where she sewed leather gloves in the evening when all the housework was done. She loved cooking and was famous for her knitting and gardening. In her later years, she and Victor enjoyed travelling throughout North America, which included a five year stay in Victoria, BC. Unfortunately, after Victor's death, her body, which was once so full of energy, became weaker. It then became necessary for Pauline to become a resident of Beacon Hill Lodge where she spent her last years. The family wish to especially thank Barb, Brenda, Bev, Miriam, Susanne, Rodney and the other dedicated staff on the 7th floor who were so kind to our Mother. Rest in Peace in God's loving care now Mother. You will be missed. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you so wish, donations in memory of Pauline, may be made to a charity of your choice.
