GRACE RESTALL

GRACE MARGARET EVA RESTALL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and relative, Grace Margaret Eva Restall on November 13, 2004. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Eva Restall (nee Hill) and her sister Hazel who died in 1990. She is survived by her many cousins and relatives. Born in the St. John's District of Winnipeg on April 10, 1912, she attended Luxton Public School and St. John's Technical High School. Following her graduation, she attended St. John's College of the University of Manitoba. Subsequent to her education, she had a lengthy and interesting career with the Winnipeg School Division No. 1, initially as Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and later in an executive position with duties which included being the individual responsible for hiring and training school secretaries and teaching assistants for the Division. Following her retirement, Grace remained a participant in the School Division Retirees' Association as well as many activities including the Charleswood Seniors' Day Club. Throughout her life, Grace's church was a central focus. She was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and participated in many capacities, serving as a Sunday School teacher, CGIT leader, member of the Church Council and member of the DWYC. Even when Grace could no longer regularly attend, she remained keenly interested in the affairs of Tabernacle Baptist Church and optimistic with respect to its future growth. Grace was always very devoted to her family. Grace and her sister Hazel cared for their parents throughout their lives and when other family members and friends were ill or in hospital, they were always among the first to visit and brought comfort, care and happiness. Grace loved to entertain and was always an interested conversationalist and of course had ready tea and refreshments for all guests. These visitors included members of her church, her bridge club and her many friends. As her friends and relatives would affirm, her character was distinguished by many fine qualities including civility, concern, humour and generosity. Grace and her sister Hazel loved to travel and experienced adventures in an era when international travel was not common. From the early 1950s onward they journeyed extensively throughout the British Isles, Europe, across North America, to Bermuda and Hawaii. These holidays were both eagerly anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed. In later years, especially in the winters, Victoria, BC became a favourite destination and a place which allowed for the renewal of old acquaintances and friendships. Grace also delighted in the new friends she made there. A highlight in recent years was Grace's trip to the Okanagan Valley for a family reunion with the Restalls and O'Connells. Left to remember her with profound love and affection are her cousins and their families and Grace's many friends. We wish to thank Dr. Elizabeth Giesbrecht for their very fine care of Grace over the years, and as well express our gratitude to Grace's companions. The honorary pallbearers will be Arnold Graham, Wilfred McFadyen, John Linney, Jim Ross, Harry Restall, Maurice Ingram and Bruce Kitching.
