She is now in a better place at home with her Saviour, The Lord Jesus Christ. She leaves for the time being, her husband of 29 years of a happy married life, Donn; and two children, Joshua Michael and Jordan Christian, both still at home, as well as her parents, Michael and Irene Baron of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born on August 31, 1952, in Edmonton, Alberta, Colleen later received her education in Winnipeg. She attended Balmoral Hall School and the University of Winnipeg. Colleen was a person who had many interests and talents. An accomplished musician, she enjoyed playing the harp, piano, accordion, saxophone and flute. In 1992 she moved to Victoria, BC, where she worked tirelessly for the under-privileged. For the glory of the Lord, she cared for them in many ways, giving piano lessons to children who were unable to afford them, and telling and giving dramatic readings of her stories at various venues, as well as helping people from all walks of life. Not long before she was diagnosed with cancer, she finished writing and publishing her first book, "Do I Have a Story to Tell!" She was an unselfish person who always looked to better the interests of others, and went to great lengths to help those in need; including making large pots of soup and stew and taking it to the street people in Victoria, BC. Colleen will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends, both in Winnipeg and Victoria. WAYNE WOOD
WAYNE RODNEY WOOD Peacefully, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, November 7, 2004, our beloved husband, father and step-father passed away at the age of 59 years. I am survived by my wife Vicki Reynolds; son Dylan; stepchildren, Scott Reynolds (Christine), Neil Gouriluk, Jessica Gouriluk; stepgrandson Dawson Reynolds; mother Iris of Poseidon Place; sister Sharon Paulsen (Bill) and their children, Barrett and Desiree; uncle Dennis Wood (Eve); aunts, Florence Rogers and Margerie Lamoureux; mother-in-law Aileen Reynolds; sister-in-law Anne Guest (Hal); brother-in-law Phil Reynolds (Val); as well as numerous cousins, relatives and friends. I was predeceased by my father Rodney in 1993. I lived my early life in Transcona attending Central and Westview Schools and T.C.I. Transcona was an anomaly for the prairies. It was a fairly large blue collar industrial community that provided a prairie experience of giant skies and vistas with mud roads, poplar bluffs and all the fun that young boys could create. Outdoor hockey rinks and skating set the scene in winters and bus rides to the city of Winnipeg a few times a year were a great treat. The Bay and Eaton's and the walk down Portage Avenue were great fun at Christmas. I hope this part of the city comes back to greater life. After graduating from the University of Manitoba in 1967, I became a teacher in the Lord Selkirk School Division #11 in Selkirk. I taught there for 33 years at S.C.I., the Comp., Mapleton, Lockport, Robert Smith and St. Andrews Schools, finally returning to the Comp. for my last nine years. In effect, I taught every grade. I think I was a dedicated professional who believed that education could better the world. I also knew that obtaining a public school education was only a beginning. Education is ongoing; it doesn't stop when one finishes public school. One must always be widening and deepening perceptions. Schools have changed, but so has the family and the media is a constant source of new input to both. For me, my family was my number one priority and aside from work I devoted my energies to the care and upbringing of my family. I was a single parent for six years and am proud of the job I did with my son and later my stepchildren. During this time, I coached hockey at Vince Leah Community Club for a number of years. Also, I was active in promoting Remembrance Day Services at the Comp. in Selkirk. I also served on the Provincial Middle Years Committee as a member of the M.T.S. for a number of years. In 1989 - 90, I took a one year sabbatical when I attended courses at the University of Manitoba. It was a pleasure to have the honour to be in courses taught by Dennis Cooley, Carol Shields and Tony Steele. It was an exciting and rewarding year. Many things in life provide stimulation and reward, most especially the love of my wife and family. The music of J.S. Bach and jazz were one of my greatest pleasures. Dancing, anywhere, anytime with my wife to whatever inspired us was one of my greatest joys. Literature was another reward; fiction, poetry, history, newspapers, magazines all brought a kind of solace. There were also skiis, skates, bicycles, Bird's Hill Park, the Forks, the river walk, the New Music Festival, tents, canoes, uninhabited lakes with uninhabited islands, Hecla, Grand Beach, Clear Lake, skiing in the Rockies, the Aurora Borealis. Heaven itself. Lastly, I would like to thank my wife, my family and my friends for their help in these last days. It was a demanding time for all of us and I truly and humbly thank all of you for the love, friendship and caring that you gave me and us. Life is a spiritual journey helped by the teachings of Jesus and Buddha. Peace and love to all of you. Wayne's funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. in Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave. with Rev. Paul Peters-Derry officiating. We would like to thank all of the health care professionals we encountered during the last eight months at the Selkirk and St. Boniface General Hospitals. Heartfelt thanks especially to the incredible Palliative Care team from St. Boniface, whose genuine care and support over the past three weeks made it possible for us to honour Wayne's last wish, to be at home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne's memory may be made to the Wayne Wood Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of The Lord Selkirk School Division Scholarship Foundation, 221 Mercy St., Selkirk, MB R1A 2C8. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren, Ryan (Rachel) Evans, Heidi (Dave) Clark, Jordan Evans, Melissa (Chris) Park, Meagan Hampton, Glen Hampton and his great-grandson Owen. Also one brother Norman (Gwen) and sister-in-law Marlene Zelmer. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Dennis. Glen was born
in Winnipeg on September 18, 1928. He lived here all his life with the exception of one year (May 1960 to June 1961) when he and Muriel resided in Brandon. Glen worked a few years in the printing industry and then in June 1962 became a salesman for Hillier Paper, which later became Inter City Paper Co. He retired from that company in 1989. Glen was a long time, active member of Grace Chapel where he was an elder for many years, until ill health forced his retirement. He also spent many years working at Faith Bible Camp, on the Board of Directors and as a Counselor, Camp Director, Camp Manager, preacher and where ever he was needed. He loved working with young people and had a good relationship with them. Glen had a quick wit and a great sense of humour when we all enjoyed. We will remember Glen for many reasons, but above all for his faithfulness. He was faithful to his Lord, and Saviour, Jesus Christ, to his church and his family. He will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Chapel, 19 Berrydale St., St. Vital, with interment to follow in the family plot in St. Vital Cemetery. If friends so desire, contributions to Faith Bible Camp Memorial Fund, P.O. 42059, RPO Ferry Road, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3X7, would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the service. For I know that my redeemer lives, And He shall stand at the last on the earth. And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh, I shall see God.
