Margaret Pringle
The funeral service for the late Margaret Pringle, Fillmore, was held in Fillmore United Church on Monday, March 29, 1999 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Burke officiating. Margaret was born in Hardieville, AB on August 24, 1909 and died Friday, March 26, 1999. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Catherine Johnston; her husband, John; two brothers, Tom and George; two sisters, Jean and Janet (Gosselin) and is survived by her son, Darwin (Carol), Victoria, BC; her daughter Sheaunid (Dale) Wiggins, Fillmore; eight grandchildren: Warren (Vernna), Kevin (Debbie), Jody and Todd Wiggins; Jim (Joanne Oatman) Pringle, Vicki (Bill) Simons, Jacki Kirkwood, and Jolene Pringle; one honorary grandson, Scottie Smith; nine great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Katie McCartney, Edmonton; Bill and Kay Pringle, Port Hardy, BC; Margaret Pringle, Chilliwack, BC; Ruth Krisko, Regina; Edna and Al Roy, Toronto; as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers were Warren, Kevin, Jody, Todd Wiggins, Scottie Smith, Bob Pringle. Following committal in Fillmore Cemetery, lunch was served in the Fillmore Hall, followed by a family supper in the United Church.
Emma Maria Gallant
On Friday, April 2, 1999 Emma Maria Gallant, late of Weyburn, and formerly of Estevan, passed away at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, John Gallant; her father and mother, John and Donalda Baudria; a brother Paul in infancy; brother, Wilfred; sisters Elizabeth Myers, Lena Scharnatta and Pauline McDonald. Emma is survived by her sister, Alida "Toots" Bonnell of Weyburn; a sister-in-law Elizabeth Baudria of Weyburn; nieces Edith (Gordon) Jacobs of Weyburn, and Lil (John) Heibein of Weyburn; great niece, Shelly (Bill) Kievits of Weyburn; as well as many nieces and nephews. Emma's parents, John and Donalda Baudria were born and raised in Quebec. In 1906, they with their two daughters, Elizabeth and Lena, decided to homestead in the west. They arrived in Hitchcock, SK and farmed there for 12 years. Emma Maria was born September 16, 1910. She grew up in Hitchcock and later at Midale, where she went to school. She helped her sisters, Elizabeth and Lena with their growing families and on October 12, 1931 she married John Gallant from New Brunswick in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Halbrite. They resided in Midale, except for a brief period when they moved to Rose Valley seeking employment. After returning they settled in Estevan. Emma's mother passed away suddenly in October 1941 after which her father John made his home with Emma and John. In 1942 Emma, her husband and father moved to Toronto, where they were employed in a war factory. In 1946 they returned to Estevan where her husband worked for a road construction company and Emma cooked for them. Her father passed away suddenly in October 1954. In 1976 Emma and John took up residence in Creighton Lodge, Estevan. In 1981 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Midale Civic Centre. John passed away June 18, 1985. Emma lived alone until she moved to Pioneer Place in Weyburn. There she kept busy with her knitting, crocheting and other crafts. Her church and prayers were always very important to her. She moved to Weyburn Special Care Home and when her health failed further she was moved to Souris Valley Regional Care Centre, where she resided until she passed away peacefully on April 2 at the age of 88 years and six months. Prayers were said Tuesday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Father Francis Hengen presiding. The funeral mass was held on Wednesday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Father Francis Hengen celebrant. Interment followed in Souris Valley Memorial Gardens in Estevan. Nieces, Edith Jacobs and Shirley Davis did the readings, great niece, Linda Heibein read the eulogy. Honorary pallbearers were: Gladys LaCoste, Mrs. Efford, Eli and Lucille Audit and Leo Audit. Active pallbearers were Bill Kievits, Paul Baudria, Doug Heibein, Bobby Baudria, Keith Baudria and John Heibein. Bertha Anne Sorsdahl
Bertha Anne Sorsdahl late of Fillmore, age 82 years, passed away April 10, 1999. Bertha was predeceased by her parents Charles and Amelia Benton; her husband Louis Sorsdahl; one infant daughter Gail Sorsdahl; one son Dwayne Sorsdahl. She leaves to mourn her seven sons: Larry (Sharon) Sorsdahl of Regina; James (Edna) Sorsdahl of Calgary, AB; Charles Sorsdahl of Victoria, BC; Dale (Clarice) Sorsdahl of Calgary; Ken Sorsdahl of Coalhurst, AB; Doug Sorsdahl of Fillmore; Bob (Ida) Sorsdahl of Weyburn; one sister Winnie Sorsdahl; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. Myrtle Alice Victoria Hacke
Myrtle Hacke of Regina passed away at the Regina General Hospital, April 6, 1999, one month and a half short of her 92nd birthday. Myrtle was born May 25, 1907 at Macoun, SK. She was married to Myrl Hacke October 1, 1939. Funeral service for Mrytle Alice Victoria Hacke, late of Regina, age 91 years, was held Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. from Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home, Weyburn, with Rev. Rob Ogilvie officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Myrtle was predeceased by her parents: Charles and Ida Peterson; one sister: Ruth; one brother Goldwyn; loving husband of 53 years, Henry. She leaves to mourn two sisters: Anne (Haakon) Eliason of Kelowna, BC; Dorothy Freadrich of Camrose, AB; one brother Raymond (Lois) Peterson of Regina; numerous nieces and nephews. Myrtle took her schooling at Rolling Meadow School and completed a year in Regina at a business college. Before she married she worked in different places: Lampman, Estevan and Regina. Myrl's (Henry) mechanic work took them to Birtle, MB, Moose Jaw, Regina and Estevan. In 1975 they moved to the farm at Midale where they took over Myrl's parents' farms. In 1982 they retired and moved into the town of Midale. After Myrl's death in 1991, Myrtle moved to Regina taking up residence at Storey Manor until October of 1998 when she moved to Qu'Appelle House where she lived until her death. Active pallbearers are Tim Peterson, Lance Jaworski, Terry Hultgren, Gus Eiteneier. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Tom Alfred Causier
On Thursday, April 1, 1999 Tom Alfred Causier, late of Weyburn, passed away at Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by his father and mother, Dave and Isobella Causier; his wife, Annabelle; infant son, Robert; son-in-law, John Mogus; four brothers: George, Albert, Charlie and Dave; three sisters: Nellie Barrett, Edith Ibey and Marguerite Sayles. Tom is survived by two sons: Ralph Causier of Weyburn, and Bill (Yvonne) Causier of Sechelt, BC and his children: Don (Alison) of Burnaby, BC, Dianne (Dan) Theadorescu of Charlottesville, VA, USA and their children, Thomas and Claire; one daughter, Connie Mogus of Moose Jaw and her son, Ronald (Heather) Mogus of Moose Jaw; one brother, John (Wynn) Causier of Coquitlam, BC; special brother-in-law, Fen Cooper; special niece, Carol Downton; special friend, Janice Hill; sister-in-law Mary Causier of Vancouver; and many nieces and nephews. Tom Causier was born November 20, 1908 in a 'soddie' in the Brokenshell R.M. He moved to Weyburn as a small child and spent his life here. On May 4, 1930 he married Annabelle Stewart. He provided for his family by having a delivery service, delivering for several local businesses like: Burges, Wordens, McBrides, Red & White Store, Weyburn Hardware. When Annabelle became ill he quit work for a time to look after her. After her death, Tom worked at several gas bars, the last being Elmer's Service. A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, with Rev. John Ferrier officiating. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. Interment will be at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. For friends so wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Weyburn Special Care Home, in his memory. Myrtle Jane Lutz
On Tuesday, April 6, 1999, Myrtle Jane Lutz, late of Yellow Grass, passed away at Beautiful Plains Villa at the age of 102 years. Myrtle was born in Madoc, Ontario, December 6, 1896. Predeceased by her parents, William and Alice Ranson; her husband, Guy in 1953; one daughter, Evelyn Huycke in 1989; four sisters: Hildred, Alice, Grace and Hazel; five brothers: Carl, Tom, Max, Gordon and Henry. Myrtle is survived by her children: Myrel Earlywine of Port Angeles, Wash.; Fern Snell of Indian Head; Willard (Betty) Lutz of Regina; Howard (Celia) Lutz of Medicine Hat; Leonard (Ann) Lutz of Kentucky, USA; Ron (Burnelle) Lutz of Weyburn; and son-in-law, Raymond Huycke of Nobleton, ON; 17 grandchildren as well as numerous great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In November of 1903 Myrtle moved to Yellow Grass with her parents. She went to school in Yellow Grass as well. After finishing school she worked in the McTaggart Post Office where she met Guy Lutz. They were married February 5, 1918. They made their home on the farm at McTaggart and raised seven children. Guy passed away April 14, 1953 but Myrtle continued to live on the farm until 1973 when she moved to Yellow Grass, where she lived until her passing. She was always interested in gardening, planting trees and flowers, although water was scarce and sometimes they didn't make it, but that didn't deter her from trying. After her husband passed away Myrtle worked at the Weyburn Union Hospital in the kitchen. When she retired she started to travel. Her travels took her to the Holy Land, Ireland, on a Mediterranean cruise, and around the USA and Canada. In later years her ability to recite poetry was well known and at her 100th birthday party she recited "I'm Fine Thank You, for the Shape I'm In." Family was the most important thing to her, and she could tell you the day and year each one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren were born. In the early years on the farm she went to the United Church in McTaggart and taught Sunday school and belonged to the ladies groups in the church. She was a charter member of the Church of Christ in Yellow Grass and very involved with the life of the church. Young people of the church were always welcome in her home. Friends were a big part of her life, she was always ready to lend a helping hand. When friends dropped in there was always enough food to go around and enough beds for everyone to sleep. She had a special knack to be able to make a meal for six stretch for 12 or more. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pioneer Place and Special Care Home. The last 12 years of Myrtle's life were spent as a guest of Beautiful Plains Villa in Yellow Grass. Funeral service was held Saturday, April 10 at 4:00 p.m. from Yellow Grass Church of Christ with Pastor Rob Ogilvie officiating. Interment followed in Yellow Grass Cemetery. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Russell Brock, Don Fortner, Nat Whitrow, Dalton Hockley, Art Ward and Ron Murray. Thomas (Tom) Anthony Stellick
It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Stellick announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Easter Sunday morning, April 4, 1999 at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 78. Predeceased by his parents John and Marguerite Stellick; brothers Albert, Walter, Alex, Frank and Joe; sister Veronica; brother-in-law Ward Gibson. He will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of 48 years, Joan Stellick of Weyburn, and his children: Jeffrey (Pam) Stellick, Aylmer, Que.; Charles (Eileen) Stellick, Weyburn; Margaret (Jean) Boutin, Montreal. Also six grandchildren: Erin and Lael Stellick (Aylmer); Chareena, Matthew and Joshua Stellick (Weyburn); Lisa Deptuck (Saskatoon) and great granddaughter Monilade (Saskatoon). He also leaves to mourn, his two sisters Josephine Bukowski of Nipawin and Victoria Belech of Langley, BC; sisters-in-law Lynn (Bob) Pawelko of Regina; Kathy (Lory) Sproxton of Saskatoon; Sophie Stellick of Peachland, BC and several nieces and nephews and many friends. Tom was born December 7, 1920 in the Cupar district. He was the youngest of the nine children. He attended school in the Cedoux-Tyvan area at Krakow School. In 1948 he moved to the Talmage area where he began his own farming operation. He married Joan Gibson at Dysart, SK on November 4, 1950. Tom and Joan celebrated their 40th anniversary in 1990 with a tea and a supper attended by family and friends. Tom was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also involved in earlier 4-H clubs, the Farmers' Union, the Wheat Pool, and took a very active part in the restoration of the T.C. Douglas Calvary Centre on Signal Hill. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, curling, woodworking, baseball when he was younger and enjoyed being with his grandchildren whenever he could. But anyone who knew Tom, knows that his great passion was farming. He was able to farm until he was diagnosed with cancer in February 1999. He loved company and no one left his home without feeling welcome and full of whatever cooking and baking Joan always had on hand. Tom was a very caring father and would have done anything for his children. He was a good neighbour, always lending a hand with whatever was needed of him. He was a hard-working, tireless man with much determination, kindness and generosity. He will be dearly missed. Prayers were held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church. The funeral mass was held Wednesday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church with Father John Mock celebrant. Cremation followed. Bruce Gibson, his nephew, read the eulogy. The Knights of Columbus formed an honor guard. All those in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Jean Boutin, Brian Gibson, Bruce Gibson, Russ Leguee, Lael Stellick and Joe Zarowny. Roy W. Lohse
Roy W. Lohse, 75, well known community leader and longtime resident of Alamo, passed away Friday afternoon April 9, 1999 in the Mercy Medical Center in Williston, North Dakota. His funeral service was held Tuesday, April 13 in Alamo and interment was in the Alamo Cemetery. Roy W. Lohse was born August 7, 1923 in Alamo, North Dakota to John and Emma Wolfe Lohse. He graduated from Alamo high school, attended the University of North Dakota, and then entered the military in 1942. He farmed in North Dakota, Stoughton, SK, and Minnesota, operated an implement business, and did aerial crop spraying. Having received his training in the military, he as a very adept and successful pilot for over half of his life. Along with spraying he had some ambulance, search and rescue and charter flying. He was an accomplished commercial pilot in single engine and amphibious planes, as well as the helicopter. The loves of his life were: people, aeronautics, fishing and hunting, snowmobiling and mechanically fixing the impossible and inventing everything from tractor cabs to boot heaters and fishing lures. He believed in hard work, honesty, good humor, generosity, helping others, and in world peace, love and God. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife, Lillian (nee Majeran), four daughters Diana Atkins and her husband, Len, of Gallipolis, Ohio, Shirley Hagen and her husband, David of Boise, ID, Marjory Lohse and friend Cliff Kosbab, also of Boise, Barb Overland and her husband, Keith of Williston, five grandchildren: Dasha Hagen, Tavia, Tanner, Tucker and Tracer Overland, three brothers: Loyal Lohse and his wife Nita, of Oceanside, CA, Lester Lohse of Williston, Vernon Lohse and his wife Eunice, of Minot and two sisters, Ila Mae Gilbert and her husband Paul of Bellevue, WA and Mrs. Ada Bagley and her husband Bill, of Bedford, NY, a sister-in-law, Esther Lohse of Williston and his friends and partners, Hilton Scarr and his wife Bea of Williston. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma, parents, two infant siblings, his brother, Ervin, one grandson, Zack Hagen, and his sister-in-law, Florence Lohse. The Everson Funeral Home of Williston was in charge of arrangements.
Cissie Thomas
Born March 3, 1909 in Birmingham, England. Passed away at Glengarry Hospital, Victoria, April 3, 1999. Predeceased by husband David, son Lloyd and grandson Tom Thomas. Survived by daughter Margaret (Bob) Hosie, daughter-in-law Beatrice, of High River, AB; eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. Former residences Meyronne, Weyburn, Regina and Kelowna. Gratitude to staff at St. Charles Manor, Glengarry Hospital, to Dr. Eunice Fast and to our church family at Faith Congregational. Rest well Mom, you are loved. Matthew Kaufmann
Matthew (Matt) Jared Brent Kaufmann was born March 6, 1981 in Weyburn. Matt died in a car accident April 7, 1999. Matt was predeceased by his papa Omer Roysum on January 30, 1999. He is survived by his parents, Brent and Gwen Kaufmann, sister, Amy and brother Tanner (special friend Jodi Boers); grandparents Joseph and Nina Kaufmann of Weyburn and Lorraine Roysum of Beaubier; great grandparents Mert and Hattie Toso of Radville; aunts and uncles Patricia and Arnold Leatherdale, Brian and Sharon Kaufmann, Debbie and Kitch Milford, Garnet and Elaine Roysum, Gaylord and Kelly Roysum; cousins Chad, Riley (Elissa), Brandon (Joanne), Kirsten (Colin), Joey (Amanda), Cory, Shane, Megan, Halie and Logan; step-cousins Darren (Kelly), Deana (Bob), Devin (Amy), Tammy (Bruce), Angie (Rick) and Aunt Myrna. Matt lived life to the fullest. It seemed as though his cup was always brimming over. He was gentle, compassionate and caring. He was a good listener and generous with his time. Matt had the most wonderful sense of humour. He was intelligent, artistically and musically talented and a natural athlete. Matt's abilities led him to a13 year involvement with hockey, which he shared with his Dad and brother; football (Usher Unicorns) and participation with the Usher Collegiate Choral Group, which he shared with his sister. Matt's teachers and coaches often remarked to his parents that he displayed qualities of sportsmanship and respect for others. Matt loved to hunt and fish with his Dad, brother, grandpa, uncles and cousins. Matt was a confirmed member of Faith Lutheran Church. His faith was being carefully nurtured by his Mom, who freely shared her beliefs with her son. Matt had a legion of friends; a testament to the kind of young man he was. His death has left a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends. He is greatly loved and will be sorely missed. A prayer service was held on Sunday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Unser-Rise Funeral Home, 2080 E. Victoria Ave. The funeral service was held Monday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Faith Lutheran Church, 370 McIntosh St. N., Regina with Pastor Dennis Fingas officiating. Rosie Marie Schmidt
On Thursday, April 8, 1999 Rosie Marie Schmidt, late of Weyburn, passed away at Weyburn Special Care Home at the age of 92 years. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Emerance Melle; her husband, Jacob Schmidt in 1978; two sons: Joseph and William; two sons in infancy; and one granddaughter, Theresa. Rosie is survived by her children: Anton (Irene) Schmidt of Weyburn; Jacob (Audrey) Schmidt of Lethbridge, AB; Veronica Zorn of Creston, BC; Catherine (Maurice) Greer of Weyburn; Edward (Joyce) Schmidt of Cochrane, AB; Paul (Gertrude) Schmidt of Wetaskiwin, AB; Evelyn (Don) Corbin of Weyburn; Ann (Russ) Turner of Calgary; and Ralph (Sonia) Schmidt of Minton; two daughters-in-law: Helen Schmidt of Sechelt, BC and Verla Schmidt of Lethbridge; 42 grandchildren; 82 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rosie was born in Tulsia, Romania on August 24, 1906. She came to Canada in 1913 with her family. She was raised on a farm and had to help clear the rocks on the farmland. She married Jacob Schmidt in Plentywood, Mont. on January 15, 1924. They lived on a farm in Minton then moved into the village of Minton in 1949. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1974. In 1985 she moved to Weyburn and lived in Bison Manor, Legion Towers and also Weyburn Special Care Home. Rosie enjoyed gardening, hooking rugs, quilting, canning and caring for her grandchildren. She was very interested in her church activities, and was a lifetime member of the C.W.L. in Minton and Weyburn. She loved visiting and playing cards with her friends. She was very involved in caring for her sick friends, keeping her family and friends company and visiting and giving them strong Christian support. Rosie travelled to the Holy Land in 1986 where she accomplished riding a camel. Over the last 15 years she attended three family reunions with all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Prayers were said Sunday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Father Francis Hengen presiding. The funeral mass was held Monday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Father Francis Hengen celebrant. Interment followed at Chapel Grove Cemetery, Minton. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were Cheryll Meredith, Randy Uytterhagen, Brent Schmidt, Brenda Saboe, Kevin Uytterhagen and Todd Schmidt.
