1918-2009
MRS. VERNA M. BROWN, beloved wife of Mr. Andrew G. Brown of Coaldale, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the age of 91.
Besides her loving husband of 70 years, Verna is survived by her children, Darl (Margaret) Brown, and Marilyn (Andy) Zwaagstra. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carin (Richard) Plischke, Heather (Dave) Talen, Glen Brown, Sheri (Peter) Gilbert, and great-grandchildren, Ryanne & Caden Gilbert.
She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her main joy and devotion in life was her family, friends and her faith. She will leave a hole in everyone’s heart.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 1614 – 5th Avenue South, Lethbridge on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

HAZEL MARIE WEASEL BEAR BIG SMOKE, beloved wife of Wilton Big Smoke, of Brocket passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the age of 63 years.

Resident of Lethbridge, AB. Joseph died unexpectedly after recovering from a heart attack; though he battled diabetes. for a number of years. He was born in Felsovadasz Hungary to Zsofia Vladar and Pal Betegh. Joe was the youngest of three with two older sisters Gizella (Ducsai deceased) and Jolan Ducsai. He attended Mikoviny Samuel Banyaipari Technikum in Miskolc and graduated in Mining Engineering. He immigrated to Canada in 1968 and chose to move to Alberta to be close to his uncle Daniel Vladar (deceased) rather than pursue engineering in Ontario.
In 1969 he married his true love Emily (nee Radvanszky) where he was loved by her family as if he was blood. Joe will forever be remembered by his devoted and beloved children Steven and Sophia and son-in-law Geoff Hamelin, treasured grandchildren Matthew and Zachary along with countless other friends and family in Western Canada, United States and Hungary whom were blessed to know him.
Joseph loved to work, whether for his business or tinkering on all things mechanical, laughing, being with his family. You could always count on Joe to “tell you the way I see it” and put 110% into everything he did. He never lost his desire to learn new things with child like curiosity – he was the definition of continuing education. Joe touched the lives of many people with his smile and trademark sense of humor. He will be missed but not forgotten.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Prayer Service on Friday October 2nd, 2009, at 7:00 P.M. at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB.
A Funeral Mass will be held at SS. PETER AND PAUL GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH, 643– 12 ‘B’ Street North, Lethbridge, AB., on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Gary Sedgwick celebrant. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

CAHOON, WILLIAM RAYMOND "BILL"
1937-2010
MR. WILLIAM (BILL) RAYMOND CAHOON, beloved husband of Bonnie and devoted father of Johanna, Sandra, Doug and Kyle, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2010 in Calgary, AB.
Bill was born in Cardston, AB on May 15, 1937 to parents Leonard and Alice. He lived the majority of his full life in Southern Alberta where he raised his family and developed long lasting friendships. Bill was an exceptional carpenter who constructed numerous buildings all over Southern Alberta. He also enjoyed the farming life and always strived to give his family everything they desired.
Besides his loving wife Bonnie, Bill is survived by his daughters Johanna Jones and family of Calgary, Sandra (Dan) Furgason of Lethbridge; son Douglas (Colleen) Cahoon of Victoria BC; grandchildren Christie Swartz, Mitchell Cahoon, Kimberly Cahoon-Mein, William Cahoon and Peter Cahoon and a soon to arrive great grandchild.
He is also survived by his mother in law Gertrude, his sister Pearl (George) Kolasko, several nieces and nephews and sisters-in-laws Marlene and Marion. Bill was predeceased by his son Kyle, parents Leonard and Alice, brothers Lorraine, Merlin, Norman, Leland, Leo, John, Bob; sisters Marie, and Aileen.

EUNICE DOROTHY CRAWFORD
1922-2010
EUNICE DOROTHY CRAWFORD, beloved wife of the late George Crawford, passed away peacefully at the Taber Hospital on Thursday January 14, 2010 at the age of 88.
She was born in Coalhurst, Alberta on January 2, 1922 where she was raised by her Grandma Johnson and received her education. Eunice met and later married George Victor Crawford on August 2, 1940. Eunice was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years where she enjoyed playing darts and cribbage. She also enjoyed knitting, puzzles, reading and music. Eunice will be missed by all her family and friends.
Eunice is survived by one son Roy (Beverley) Crawford of Medicine Hat; four daughters: Dorothy (Nick) Rosenfelt and Joanne Nieboer of Lethbridge, Beverly (Larry) Wilson of Wrentham and Karen (Harold) James of Lethbridge; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband George, she was predeceased by her parents Ethel Harmon and Matt Komar; brother Sheiker; 2 sons-in-law; Tony Vas and Herman Nieboer.
Cremation was held, with a private family service to be held at a later date.
MR. STEWART CHRISTIE
1928-2010
MR. STEWART CHRISTIE, beloved husband of Mrs. Louise Christie of Lethbridge, passed away at home on Friday, January 1, 2010 at the age of 81 years.
Born in Glasgow on April 30, 1928, Stewart was raised and educated in Falkirk, Scotland. After serving in the British Army, he was trained as a registered nurse and emigrated to Canada in 1954. One of his greatest adventures was his first trip across Canada, trying to decide where to settle.
He married Louise on February 15, 1958, and they chose to live in Alberta. Stewart earned a degree from the University of Saskatchewan and worked as a hospital administrator in Claresholm and then as a financial planner in Coaldale and Lethbridge. Following retirement, it gave Stewart great joy to volunteer his time at many venues throughout southern Alberta. He held active roles in various community organizations and was a Master Mason and a Shriner. Time spent traveling often centered around visiting friends and family around the world. But Stewart’s true avocation in life was to share his musical talent and good humour as often as he could. Over the past fifty years, he celebrated his Scottish heritage by entertaining and “addressing the haggis” at countless Robbie Burns suppers. Most recently he enjoyed several years leading the LSCO Golden Mile Singers.
He will be missed by his loving wife Louise, son Ian (Tracey), daughter Heather (Tim), five granddaughters Shaylene and Richelle Christie, Erin, Emily and Christy Gore-Hickman, and extended family in Canada, Scotland and Australia.
A Memorial Service will be held at MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 – 15 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB., on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating. A private family inurnment will be held prior to the service at Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Stewart’s family would be pleased if anyone wishing to remember him with a memorial donation would consider the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, 500 – 11 Street South, Lethbridge, AB. T1J 4G7.
MRS. THERESA COSGROVE
1919-2009
MRS. THERESA COSGROVE beloved wife of the late Mr. Harvey Cosgrove of Lethbridge. passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the age of 90 years.
She is the loving mother of Beverley (Doug) Pickell of Lethbridge and Valarie Caffet of Lethbridge. She also leaves to mourn her loss; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, her brother Andrew Galambos of Victoria, B.C. and sister Evelyn Burkatsky of Kelowna, B.C.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Harvey, six sisters, and seven brothers.
Theresa was born to John and Mary Galambos on January 2, 1919 in St. Brieux, Sask. She met her late husband Harvey while working for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co. in Flin Flon, Man. They were married in 1943. Later, they moved to Napinka, Man. and farmed for 11 years before returning to Flin Flon. She worked at the Flin Flon General Hospital, and in her mid forties successfully completed the Registered Nursing Assistant course, which she worked at until her retirement.
Theresa and Harvey retired to Creston, B.C. where she immediately got involved in the church, golfing, curling, camping and organizing pot luck dinners. In 1994 she moved to Pemmican Lodge where she played Santa, organized the Friday movie night and made many close friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Del Bertsch officiating.
MR. TIMOTHY CRANLEY
1954-2009
MR. TIMOTHY CRANLEY of Lethbridge, passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the age of 55 years.
He is the loving father of Melissa Cranley (Dustin Launchbury), Ryan Cranley, Mitchell Cranley, and Jesse Curtis and grandfather to Sierra Oberlander and Hannah Launchbury.
He is also survived by his sister Sharon Forrest and nephew Jonathan Forrest.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.
MACK CRUMLEY
1929-2009
MACK CRUMLEY passed away peacefully at St Michael’s Palliative Care Tuesday, November 24, 2009 after a lengthy & courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 1929 in Stavely, Alberta to Clinton & Harriet Crumley.
Sadly Mack leaves to mourn his loving wife Joyce of 57 years, son Timothy (Bernice), daughter Jill (Glen), grandson Adam (Alyssa) and granddaughter Amy Leffingwell. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren who fondly remember him as “Captain”. Mack is also survived by his brother Pat, and predeceased by his parents and 3 sisters Francis, Virginia, and Marjorie.
In 1947 Mack started his career with the Bank of Commerce. He was transferred to Taber in 1949 where he met and married Joyce in 1952. That same year he was appointed Secretary Treasurer of the Taber School Division. In 1961 he accepted the position of Secretary-Treasurer with Lethbridge Public School District #51; retiring in 1985. He was always proud to say that part of his appointment to the LPSD#51 was as Second Bursar for the Junior College (known today as Lethbridge College).
Mack & Joyce enjoyed spending winters in Arizona for 22 years; as well as travelling to other destinations. Mack was very athletic playing baseball, hockey, curling and golfing. He was a 25 year member of Henderson Lake Golf Club and former member in the Lions, Rotary & Elks Clubs.
Family and Friends are welcome to attend a Memorial Reception to be held in Mack’s honour at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. on Friday, November 27th from 3 – 5 pm. A private family interment was held at Archmount Cemetery.
