GLADYS EVELYN MARSHALL (nee MILLER) AUGUST 13, 1906 - OCTOBER 21, 2004 Gladys was born icon in Seton Village (Toronto) on August 13, 1906 to Grace Mary Miller (nee Lawrence) and Clarence John (C.J.) Miller. Grace died when Gladys was a young girl and her father remarried Dorothy King (later Barringham), a devoted and treasured step-mother. Gladys had many fond memories of growing up on Christie Street, as a teenager helping her parents in their small grocery store (south of Dupont St.), and as a newlywed taking over that store for a short time with her husband Earl. Gladys' accounts of her father's open-hearted generosity and step-mother's kindness reveal a source of her own selflessness and compassion. Not one to dwell on difficulties, life's challenges only sharpened her resolve to meet them, and honed her bright wit and lively humour. After living in Toronto for 90 years, Gladys courageously left her home in North York and moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was much loved and admired by the new friends she made in Winnipeg. She died peacefully at home with her daughter by her side.
